The sleepy town of Barksdale, Louisiana isn’t known for much: except for its unusually high rate of disappearances.
When the daughter of a prominent businessman and a wealthy debutante vanishes, Reese Lindley returns to her hometown to cover the case for her podcast. Confronted by the past and her estranged family, Reese learns that the quiet town has more secrets to hide than she ever could have imagined.
Skylar Finn grew up in a refinery town just outside of Houston, Texas. She has lived in Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Colorado, and most recently Florida. She writes on the road on planes, trains, and buses. When she's not writing, she is out looking for the next adventure.
I did enjoy listening to this book but it is a very slow start and it took me a while to engage but once it kicked in, it was good and I loved the ending.
The narration yet again was brilliant, so well suited.
This novel attracted my attention right instantly because I was born in Barksdale, LA in the Air Force Base hospital. I knew the setting and thought it would be a great idea for a mystery. The story grasped my attention immediately and held me the whole time. The characters were a colorful group of Southerners, and being from the South, I felt I could know them personally! The author created an exciting plot introducing many realistic options to the sad disappearance of kids in this puzzling who done it. Learning about new experiences and seeing the complicated character relationships develop is why I love to read a thoroughly researched topic. The author included some great tidbits about podcasting, adopting children, and caring for foster kids. Remember that not all who claim to love children have the best interests of the kids in mind. Children are special gifts that we must protect as a society.
Reese Lindley and her sisters were adopted at an early age and live in the small town of Barksdale, LA, where everyone knew everyone.
But when Reese and her two sisters, Morgan and Olivia, go out in the woods to their "secret hideway", something happens that will destroy two of the sisters lives. Olivia has been taken. It seems in this small town, once a year for the past years, a child has been kidnapped and never found.
Reese moved away and lived in another town and had a live Podcast show and is doing okay. When she finds out another child is missing in Barksdale, she is contacted to go there and have a Podcast on the lastest kidnapping and try to figure out what is going on.
But, will it finally put her and her sister and friends all in danger to find out the truth!
I read this story as part of the Pretty Dead Girls Boxset that includes Sleeping Beauties as a second book.
The Pretty Dead Girls Boxset by Skylar Finn contains two phenomenal books, The Pretty Dead Girls and Sleeping Beauties. Skylar Finn hit this one out of the park! Both mystery stories have awesome twists on top of being intensely suspenseful, thrilling, intriguing, and engrossing. The characters are well thought out and develop in a way that endears them to the reader. Both books are page-turners that keep you fully engaged from page one to the end. If you like a good mystery-suspense story, this boxset is a must-read.

This was ok. It wasn't bad, but I felt like it could have been better executed. I didn't really feel for the protagonist and the guy she worked with was pretty unremarkable as well. I did like the small town aspect and how everyone seemed to be in everyone else's business (as most small towns are lol). The ending kinda seemed rushed and was a bit underwhelming for me. All in all, I did enjoy this book for what it was. It was just missing a little umph.
I loved this book. Couldn’t put it down. Yes, I would highly recommend this book to everyone. I don’t give many 5 star books, but I had to on this one. I really enjoyed it
Sleeping beauties by Skylar Finn. Reese comes back to her home town with Jasper to do a series of podcast. Children have been going missing over twenty years. Can Savanah find the culprit before it's too late? I really enjoyed this book. I liked Savanah she was different. Great story. 4*.
This is a story of missing children in modern times. Three young sisters were playing in a small town in Barksdale, Louisiana. The sisters were always together when they were young playing in the woods near their home. The very first paragraph had me hooked for the entire book. This is a fast paced, easy to read, couldn't put it down of book.
I enjoyed the storyline of this well written book. The characters all came alive with interesting personalitIes. This was a good mystery story with adventures, and plenty of young people throughout the town. I felt as if I was right in the middle of the story. This is an entire novel, my first book to read by this author. I recommend this book to young people and older people.

This was such a fantastic thriller. I was so amazed by this one. I was gripped from the first pages. Once I started I could not stop til I finished it. Fantastically written plot and story line that is so gripping and thrilling. So many twists and turns that kept me guessing to the very end! Wonderfully written characters that had me wondering about each one. Recommend reading.

Although the plot is rather universal and could have occurred anywhere, the author chose Louisiana for the setting apparently without doing her homework. The most glaring telltale sign is that Louisiana has parishes, not counties. The second issue is that Barksdale is a real place, a military base near Bossier Parish. A fictional name would have served more aptly for readers like myself who are familiar with our state. Other than that, the characters were believable and the plot well developed.
A small time podcaster goes back to her own hometown to cover the disappearance of a little girl, the daughter of an old friend/nemesis. Her own sister had disappeared in the same manner some years before. Is there a trend? A serial killer on the loose? Perhaps human traficking? Well, i'm not telling. Mostly because it's not all that intersting and not very believable. The book wasn't awful, just not convincing enough for me to care about the characters.
I received an ARC of this book and the title was The Abducted, but has since been changed to Sleeping Beauties. A definite thriller that has your heart pounding as you read through the story. So many twists and turns you'll be caught up in the story and not want to put it down until the end.

I loved the story from the beginning, and liked the fact that although trafficking was mentioned occasionally, it was not the focus. The story focused on relationships with others and dual natures. The ending didn't tie everything up in a neat bow, but enough occurred to make this thriller a thrill to read
A mystery thriller that is full of suspense and intrigue, it held my interest and kept me guessing to the very end. The plot is great, and the characters are interesting with good dialogue. A really great story.

What got my attention originally was this book was Not compared to Gone girl. I am so sick of authors thinking that will sell more books or make them more talented. Gone Girl was not that good, this book was good, had a little creep factor and the ending was a surprise. Will definitely check out another book from this author
I love this author and this is a wonderful read. Enough intrigue and action from the beginning that captured my attention and held me throughout the entire book. This is another great read by Skyler Finn.

The author used too many words in a paragraph to get the point across. I felt it was of no use to continue the page once I ran into yhis difficulty. I did not like this book. Not to be mean about the description but I just felt the story was boring.
