…but the words dried up as Lock unfolded himself from his chair and stretched, revealing every inch of a body so tight and defined that I was tempted to throw something at him just to see it ping off.
‘You must really like lifting heavy things,’ I said, and his lips parted lazily into a smile.
‘I’d lift lighter things, but then I wouldn’t look so hot.’
That surprised a laugh out of me. God, sexy and with a sense of humour about it, this guy was lethal.

Cleo is impulsive.
She’s spent her whole life lurching from one disaster to another, and after discovering that her ex is engaged to her housemate, she decides that enough is enough.
Moving in with her twin brother and his sex-on-legs workmate, Lock, she’s determined to start having second thoughts – maybe even third and fourth ones – and pull her life together.
A lifetime of impulsivity turns out to be a hard thing to overcome, however – especially when Lock never seems to be wearing a shirt when she’s around – and as Lock’s mysterious past re-emerges, Cleo discovers that a bit of impulse might be just what they both need.
Please note this story contains mature language and content.
Whilst digging through her childhood scribblings, Jessie L. Star discovered a thrilling saga by her six year old self entitled 'Jessie has Lost her Sock'. This sweeping epic spanned all four corners of her childhood house in outback South Australia as the sock was hunted down (spoiler, it was in Jessie's bed all along). Many years later and the urge to write is still going strong, although lost socks have been replaced with a raft of characters destined to snark and banter at each other until, ultimately, falling in love.
Jessie studied Business at Uni where she primarily learnt that writing and talking were very much her thing and that dealing with numbers was very much not.
Oh, man. This totally could have been a 4-star read, and then the hero slept with an OW and torpedoed any desire I had to be 100% invested in their relationship.
Let's rewind. Cleo has just moved in with her twin brother Jav and his new friend Lock, a mysterious hottie to whom she's immediately attracted. They dance around each other for a while in a lustful daze. He, apparently scared by the depth of his feelings for her, has sex with an OW and Cleo sees the start of it. He wasn't cheating I know, but I feel disgusted and I never really got into the story after that.
This is a HUGE shame because Lock is actually a character I'd met before. In one of the one-shots posted on FictionPress under the name star123, Jessie wrote about a girl called Evie who cheats on her boyfriend Davey with his older brother Mac. DAVEY IS LOCK. It was such a nice surprise to see him get his side of the story, and there was none of that bullshit about forgiving them. Davey is very definitely still mad and I'm here for it.
Sadly Cleo gets caught in the crossfire of that. The experience with Evie basically turned Davey into a fuckboy. Though he's not hung up on her anymore, I couldn't handle seeing Cleo have to deal with OW drama from both Evie and Davey's random OW. I'm left disappointed, I won't lie.
Still can't wait for whatever Jessie writes next - I hope more old characters will return. I'm interested in Saskia Townsend, for one...
As with all books by Jesie L. Star that I've read until now, I had a lovely time reading this one. It's funny, I didn't realize until I started reading cake at midnight how much I appreciated the girls taking charge in romance books, but I do. This book had me literally screaming in my pillow and I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great time
I´ve been a fan of Jessie L. Stars stories for years and I have to say that ”Impulsive” probably is the best one so far. It’s a great book and it´s funny for real - not like a lot of the stories bestselling authors publish where the ”funny” bits only makes me cringe or skip parts of the book.
I love the fact that the romance is always present in the book, it´s not something that only got a little space here and there between boring chapters of how the main charachter has to grow as a person as it´s been in so many books I´ve read lately. I love the fact that main charachter Cleo is an impulsive but otherwise normal person and not an idiot that jumps to silly conclusions as many other female main characters does these days. To put it shortly; I love this book!
Actually, I think this is the first book I give 5 stars in my almost three years as a member at Goodreads and it might say a lot. But I have a small confession about this book, a pretty important thing that I didn’t realise until I had read more than half of it. As I stated in the beginning of this review; Ive been reading stories from JLS for years and just as you always do I´ve had a favorite, a short story that I read at least once a year. That short story turned out to be a background story for ”Impulsive”, the story Lock re-tell in chapter 19! So I must say that the fact that I suddenly met the characters from an loved old story again might be helping ”Impulsive” to reach a higher rating, but who cares about that when you become ”Locked” by reading?
So; I love ”Impulsive” and hope that I can meet these characters again somehow in another story. If you´re up for a nice romantic book that makes you smile and feel good - this is the perfect book!
I am always shocked that her books aren’t more popular. This book was cute, funny, and very well written. Five stars to this read and all of her other books!
