Saffron is getting used to life on Hawaii, caring for her late uncle's chickens and making friends with the neighbors. The Empress's son unexpectedly comes home from a tour of duty with the Navy and brings his fiance. Saffron is honored to help out her new friends in the wedding plans, and everything is going smoothly until the night before the wedding when the groom disappears into shark-infested waters under mysterious circumstances. Old friends and rivals crop up like mongooses, and without a really sharp eye, it's impossible to say if the killer will be brought to justice. And what are all these owls and sharks doing on the little island?

Charming, as expected. This series is totally my new go-to palate cleanser. There's never a bad time for more Aloha Chickens.

Both the primary mystery and the personal arc are very satisfying in this series. It's a book I will come back to again and again. I couldn't put it down the first time I read it. A lot of the joy of these books is in the setting, the color, and the descriptions of food! The characters are lovable as well. In this title, a seeming tragedy at a party the night before a wedding becomes a search for a killer.

These mysteries are so much fun!

I love the Hawaiian details, from customs to fauna. It's a view of the islands this east coast gal has never heard about. And the chickens, wow! Some of them are even supporting characters. Speaking of which, Saffron is like a new best friend. Every character is so interesting that I would look around for them if I were to ever visit Hawaii.

Josi Avari has a very magical talent that brings you directly into the lives of her characters, they become your friends and more. You become so involved in the story, the clues, and the town itself, honestly it feels like home. The stories are creative, edgy, so well crafted, and the twists and turns in diciphering the clues to the murder are fantastic. Thank you Josi Avari for your creative and magical talent.

book 2 didn’t disappoint

I like the series. I can empathize about the mongoose in the chicken house because I also have chickens. I liked reading about the automation of the chicken house. They mystery was easy to follow and I didn’t figure out who was the murderer. Glad there are more.

Heartwarming romantic mystery with some twists

Some wonderful characters with depth and heart, and a carefully crafted plot that weave some convenient coincidences together. It’s like a brief respite from our busy mainland, lives to spend time with saffron and her Ohana as she cares for her chickens, and her community

I loved returning to characters who I love more with every book in this series. The mystery in this second book had even more twists and turns than the first, and Avari kept me guessing. I highly recommend this book to fans of cozy mysteries looking for a new series to dive into.

A mongoose, chickens, a fighting rooster and the protective sharks and owls.

Terrific read. (Shame about the proofing errors that have crept in.) A wonderful plot of love gone bad with a heavy dose of the supernatural. The characters just keep getting better and stronger with each book. This makes them feel 'ohana'.
Her first event has been foisted on her, when she had taken her favourite chicken on a 'chicken play date', a wedding. The Empress's son has met his soulmate and the two want to get married in four days. A mad rush but all seems to be going well until she overhears the bride's father telling the groom that he will stop the wedding. Later the groom goes missing, presumed dead after a fall off the cliff. Add in two love triangles, a jealous sister, an ex girlfriend, parents who want to stop the wedding, a solitary fisherman, a hurricane and the protective stance of the tiger sharks and owls. Plus don't forget the mongoose that tries to attack her chickens. Will she work out who made the groom fall off the cliff edge? Will her new relationship end when he goes back to Boston and resumes his surgeon duties?

New business?

Saffron has been working on getting the egg farm back to its former smooth functioning and profitability, while sharing with others and helping when she sees a need. When a wedding needs to be planned in less than a week, the Empress asks her to take charge. With help from her new friends, Saffron easily makes contacts and connections she would never have thought possible on such a tight schedule and the wedding looks to be proceeding without a hitch. The evening before the wedding, Saffron plans an event to help the wedding guests get to know one another. She's organized a Karaoke room for the ladies and even p!anned a touch football game with a glowing football and light sticks for play at night.
Other than an angry father of the bride, things are going well until everything falls apart. You won't want to miss this thrilling novel.

This is a fun series set in Hawaii, and I have enjoyed both of the books I've read so far.

I like the way Saffron has adjusted to living in Hawaii, a far cry from what she was used to in Washington DC. She has made some incredible friends who are teaching her the ways of the islands, and she's taking their lessons to heart. While building her event planning business, she is asked to plan a wedding on very short notice, and that's where the trouble begins.

A member of the wedding party vanishes and is presumed dead just as a major storm is forecast to hit the island head-on. Not all is as it appears, though, and I enjoyed trying to figure out exactly what was going on. I had a few people in mind as suspects, but I never had the actual culprit at the top of my list.

I loved learning more about the traditions of the islanders, as well as a bit more about raising chickens :) Tikka, Princess and Curry, all chickens, stole more than one scene. There were some personal developments in this book that make me eager to read the next one, and of course, I can't wait to learn more about Hawaii and its history and traditions.

Weddings Can Be Murder

Saffron is enjoying her new life in Hawaii with her chicken egg business, far from her former life as an event planner.

Asked by her friend, the Empress, to plan a wedding for her only son, Davis, in four days; Saffron pulls out all her skills and contacts to make the wedding special.

When the groom goes missing and presumed dead from a fall over the black lava cliffs, Saffron is drawn into the investigation.

The plot twists and turns are tighter than a mountain road. Beautifully written, with tidbits of Hawaiian history, culture and lanuage that will make you want to visit the islands.

Fun series!

Really enjoying this series. Saffron has settled in to egg farming when the Empress’s son come home on leave to announce he’s getting married, in a week! The Empress asks Saffron to organize the wedding Just as all the final details are in place the brides parents arrive making a scene telling the happy couple they can’t get married. When the groom appears to have been pushed off a cliff into the ocean things get even worse. Saffron tries her best to help out and make order out of the chaos.

Enjoyed the plot, a fun read

I feel like the grammar police-finding 1 grammatical error. There was also one time that one of the character’s name was misspelled & another time a sentence was very obviously missing a significant part. But it was still a fun read and I recommend it. It took awhile to finally realize who the culprit might be. But the best part is learning about the chickens, the animal ancester stories and just the charming Hawaiian ways. For now on, I will continue reading this series to see where it goes next.

I can only describe The Aloha Chicken Mysteries as charming. Ms. Avari paints such a vivid image of island life that picturing paradise is easy. I would say her stories are the embodiment of cozy and mystery. She shows respect for the beliefs of the island people which is proper, yet as a Christian, I can’t endorse the religious views. The story, however wouldn’t work without her delicate approach of beliefs.
I plan on continuing to read my way through the series and recommend it to those who enjoy a cozy read.

This is a fun, cozy mystery in all of its sense.

Insert all of the things you need in a cozy mystery: main character with her own business, love interest, ex-girlfriend of love interest, older friend who acts like a father, crazy family for this book, cute animals, dead person, police force that allows for the main character to do the sleuthing.

What was fun for me about this book is that it is Shark Week time. I love Shark Week. I open the book, and there are sharks! So fun.

This is a nice read with a good plot that moves along quickly. It has just enough mystery to keep you guessing the whodunit.

Hen Party ( book 2 Aloha Chicken Mysteries)

The further adventures of Saffron in Hawaii. The egg farm is doing well and Saffron has made many friends. Her reputation as an event planner has required her to create a wedding in three days. All is going fairly well at the party before the wedding until an unfortunate incident happens.

Mystery with Island Lore

Beautiful island Mystery. An Islander, now serving in the Navy, comes home to get married but the bride’s family arrives angry. Lots of Island Lore to sweeten the pot ... and, of course, a mystery

This was a good one. What I love about this series is the interweaving of Hawaiian words and phrases, culture, beliefs, and true-to-life local characters. Some of it is familiar to me, but what isn't is a joy to learn. Happy that I have the next two already on the tbr.

Nice characters

Murder and intrigue in Hawaii. A gorgeous setting for such devious deeds. The author mixes her murders with interesting insights into the culture and mystery of the islands. In addition to Saffron's chickens, sharks and owls figure into the story.

Hawaii needs doctors too.

It is a great story but I’m disappointed with the ending. He should have stayed and get married in the next book. The sharks and owls were very interesting to learn about. I really enjoyed it

Very entertaining

A good quick book to read the only part that needs corrected is the navy part. A ship that goes to Rota Spain would never be in Hawaii unless the ship was on a round the world cruise moving to the west coast.

Good Second Read

I really enjoyed this book and learning about the amaukua. That was very enlightening. Couple twists and unexpected turns make this a good second book leaving one hoping for a third!

Saffron must protect her chickens from a marauding mongoose as she plans a wedding on short notice. As he gets more absorbed into the island life, the story is respectful of Hawaiian spiritual traditions but walks a fine line with cultural appropriation.

a nice story

I liked this fictional telling, no idea if any of it is based on any legends of Hawaiian culture at all, but it is a fun read, not that I was aware of actual humour, but it was interesting.

Such a Vivid World! Couldn’t Stop Reading!

So rich with action … the location and sensory experiences are as alive as the characters …

Can’t wait to start the next book. And if only my town in SW Ohio had a Hawaiian restaurant!
