description

But one day, they got what they wanted. They got the boons that changed their lives, and deaths, forever.
Aru and Nemi were best of friends and together they suffered under a self-imposed penance.

They desparately tried to appease the Goddess of Time. But when she finally acknowledges them, the interaction does not go nearly the way they had hopes.
I am no god, and consequently, I offer no boons.
They both beg her to reconsider - they had, after all, spent seven years praying to her.

She decides to go for a compromise.
Your body cannot not travel through time, but your consciousness can. You could possess the brain of any living organism in the past and the future....Is that acceptable to you?
And so, Aru and Nemi's lives truly begin - unwittingly and unwillingly setting the world up for destruction.
He wanted to sit and time-read the village’s present happenings, but his heart sank each time he recalled his previous visions.
This was a short read - but it felt rather good.

I've read the first book in this series and was actually really curious about the origin story of the villains...and lo' and behold, Sayal published THIS!

The way Sayal crafted this richly woven world and the way the Gods and Goddesses interact really have an old-world mythological feel to it (which I love).

I was also rather happy with the way the powers happened in the book.

It was interesting to have one of the characters "time-read" (where they see what can happen in the future and what happened in the past) while the other one could inhabit bodies throughout time.

Though...Trikaal Devi (the kinda-sorta Goddess of Time) is either really bad at predicting the world's future or just wants to watch the world burn...because wow.

Did the two of them really set the world to a horrible destination.
“Lies. You’ve changed... Your power has corrupted you.”
Though, the book does sometimes lean on telling rather than showing - which isn't as noticeable in a shorter book. If that was minimized, I think I would have connected more.

Overall - you gotta love a good origin story!

A great prequel to the Time Demons series. This short story great as a stand alone story but also a great prequel as well. The leniage of a couple of characters from the main series are revealed here. Also not all monster have superpowers. An awsome story and s must read for any fans of the series. As always a mix of scifi and mythology, I can wait to see what happens on the third book of the series.

"Disciples of trikaal" is a short story and a prequel to the "Time Travelers" series. This story follows two characters Aru and Nemi who are disciples and worshipers of  the goddess of time. They get to choose their gifts or boons thanks to their devotion, Aru chooses knowledge and Nemi chooses power. With nothing holding them back and apparently no foreseeable consequences their true colors are shown, be it noble or self serving. As the story continues backs are stabbed , promises broken and friends imprisoned. But the question remains will one man's nobility be enough to save humanity?
With smooth writing and a sumptuous plot this book is quite an easy read and manages to keep you invested till the last word. "Disciples of trikaal" will be released on October 1st. Lastly I would like to thank the author for sending me a copy to review.

The stage is set for the Time Travelers series as this prequel uncovers how it all began, and how very wrong things went and the divide that separated the good and evil of enormous powers. Generations later, the descendants of these first time travelers will face both their pasts and their futures in a world where time knows no limits, while humanity is teetering on a critical precipice.

DISCIPLES OF TRIKAAL by Varun Sayal has an almost ethereal feel to it while still be easily read and immersed in. There are not over-the-top heroes, just gifted people intent on saving their world throughout the millennia of time. Ae these gifted monsters? Demons? Or do they represent hope?

Varun Sayal is a gifted storyteller and his characters are simple, straightforward, as are the scenes he describes. The action is in the time travel and what it uncovers. A wonderful prequel to a fascinating series.

I received a complimentary copy from Varun Sayal! This is my honest and voluntary review.

I received this book from the author in return for an honest review.
This book is a prequel of the Time Travelers series and as many prequels, has the task of give information and gives answer to the reader about the story, so this book uncovers how it all began, and talks about good and evil, power and magic, past and future.
I have to say I didn’t like this book as much as the others. I’m not saying I didn’t like this book at all, I just found the other two more interesting and dynamic.
One big quality of this book is that you can read it as a prequel but you can read it also as a stand alone book.

Synopsis:
A prequel to the Time Travelers Series, this one starts in 3723 BC in India. About 646 years before the events of the first book. Aru and Nemi are trying to please Trikaal Devi, the Goddess of Time, for the past seven years. They have been meditating in order to please and call upon the eternal time traveler so that they receive the knowledge of how to master time.

While Aru asks for the ability to read time, Nemi demands to be taught the ways of time travel. And thus starts a journey from the past to the future and beyond.

Review:
This is a book of origins. The characters that we were introduced to in the first book, this is a story of how they came into being, and to some extent helps us in understanding what made them who they are.

Just when I start thinking on the lines of 'this one sounds like mythology', the author swoops in and shatters my illusion. Haha! I love how Varun Sayal writes sci-fi. Another thing that I like is how the author provides simultaneous meanings/explanations of Indian words/concepts.

Thank you to the author for an e-copy of the book.

Review: I thought this was a well done sci-fi short story. The characters were well done, the plot was intriguing, and the writing was great!

However, I did feel like the pacing was really fast and that the book could have been better if slowed down and developed the world building and characters a bit more.

Verdict: Overall, a well done sci-fi.

Thank you to Varun for sending me a copy of this book to review.

What a fantastic read. This has completely changed my mind on this genre.

The storyline is different from what I have come across before. Unique in the fact of time travelling and reading. It hooked me in and kept me wanting more.
To the point and I understood what was happening at all times.
I enjoyed the descriptions of each time and year. Very vast in the time of travel as well and gives a different portrayal of what the future looks like.

I do wish the book was bulked out more. I am a greedy reader. I would have liked some more description on what the characters looked like, and also more of a build up to why Nemi became so bad... if you like bad characters you'll like him.

This was a brilliant book to review. I can't wait to read more!

I was gifted this book by the author and this review is my own.

When I get the gift of reading a book from an author who just asks me? What do you think? I’m all in! Time Travel, ancient mythology and set in a world now and future? This story fascinated me! This is a prequel to The Time Travelers series. I was not aware I was asked by a best selling author to review his book! This sets the origin story how two friends and gurus were befriended or betrayed by a entity to choose their time travel powers, one for good.. and another chose evil.. no spoilers here, steeped in tradition and future horrors this novella is the perfect introduction to the other books in the series which I’ll be reading immediately!

Disciples of Trikaal- This book is provided by ThinkerViews, https://thinkerviews.com as part of book review collaboration" in the review.
This book is a prequel of a fantasy series, this book is short and crispy, revolves around two ambitious Sadhak, Aru and Nemi, who wanted to please TRIKAAL DEVI. However, she was no Goddess and explains that the Gods and Goddesses are actually the time traveller. They asked for the boons of immortality, but TRIKAAL cannot grant that. Aru asked for Time Reading ability and he became a Trikaal Darshi; Nemi asked for time travelling capacity.
After getting the boons, their lives took a different course. Aru tried to help men with his power and warned villagers about flood, but they misunderstood him. He was thrown out of his village with his pregnant wife.
Nemi was an ambitious man, he misused his power and he could control anyone's body from the past or future. He possessed the body of a plane pilot, an emperor of a future kingdom and lived royal life. His wife Kalika also encouraged him. However, he had one fear. If Aru was killed, he will die too, because the TRIKAAL has tied their death. So, he imprisoned pauperized Aru and separated him from his wife and son.
Nemi possessed the body of a King of his time and put Aru in jail. However, Aru tackled the General and convinced him for his death. He sacrificed his life and that saved a future space mission from Nemi's evil ambition.
The story ended with a revelation that Nemi's children inherited the power of Time travelling and they will be Time Demon in future, but, only a Time Reader can destroy them. However, there will be one among them, who will use his power for good, but Kalika was not please to hear that. She wants wealth and power, not welfare.
The story ended with a question, whether Kalika's ambition will lead the future generation in a wrong way? Or, the time-demons will overpower all events of the humankind's? Next books will definitely reveal all these issues.
I found this book, good and interesting. The story is attractive and language is easy and comprehensive. The book cover is attractive and the subject matter is unique, no doubt. It is a fine blending of fantasy and science fiction. Waiting more from the author.

Varun Sayal, I can't thank you enough for these review copies!

Disciples of Trikaal is a prequel to the first book of the Time Traveller series. However, after reading it, I would say that one could read it even as a standalone or at the beginning of the series. The story is a short and crisp one. Due to paucity of time, I took a few days to finish this, but it can be easily read in one sitting. For me, it worked as a short story.

The Story: The story follows the life of two young men - Nemi and Aru, the two Disciples of Trikaal, and how their venturing on two completely different paths shapes the world as we see in the other two books. There is a very clear protagonist and antagonist, so it is easy to side with characters. If one has read the other two books, they well understand how the choices made in this book form the basis for the other two books.

The narrative: The story is gripping from the word go. Since I read the other two books in the Time Traveller series before I picked up this one, I was very keen on knowing how the characters/storyline were connected. While there are no big suspense reveals in the book, it surely keeps you hooked on. That's because Disciples of Trikaal is one of those books which move so fluidly that the small events make for a bigger plot.

The Language: Like Varun's other books, the language is lucid. There is no unnecessary jargon. At the same time, the author manages to paint a picture with the use of descriptive yet simple language, which is quite a feat.

I think the book, very subtly, gives out some really good messages. These are some of my takeaways:
> With absolute power comes absolute corruption.
> Greed and selfishness have no limits.
> Karma bites back. What goes around will, definitely, come around.
> With power comes responsibility.
> Sometimes we have to make big sacrifices for bigger good.
> No good deed goes unpunished.

Like his every other book, I would recommend this book. If you haven't read any other book by the author, this would be a great place to begin (along with Time Crawlers, of course). It will give you an insight to the world of mythology meeting sci-fiction.

This book Disciples of Trikaal is a prequel of the series Time Travellers. As this book is short and to the point you can finish this book in one go. It is a story of Aru and Nemi the two disciples of Trikaal Devi, who have got their boons from her. Aru gets the power of time reading whereas Nemi obtains the power of time travelling. Later Nemi becomes very conceited person due to his power. He even considered himself as god. Aru is just opposite to Nemi, he puts his life in danger to safeguard his village people from a flood. Where bloodlust Nemi loves to excruciate other people using his power. At some point he even imprisoned his friend Aru and his pregnant wife because of his insecurities. So yeah, he becomes the villain of the story. Read the book and find out what happens after Nemi imprisoned Aru.

Basically, I’m a person who is less interested in scientific fiction. But this story hooks up me till the end. This is a very short and gripping story. To be frank I liked this book of Varun Sayal than his previous one. May be that’s because of author’s narration style in this book. If you are a scientific fiction lover then you must give this book a try.

This is the prequel story to #demonsoftime and #devourersofsuryaksh . It tells the story of how kumbh and vetri came to existence.
Varun Sayal is, as always, at his best in weaving an engaging story around multitude of parallel universes. The narration developing to and fro in the past and future world.
Compared to his other books this one is a short novella and serves as an introduction to the whole #timetravelerseries

Aru and Nemi were two very close friends who had spent years meditating and praying to the Goddess of time, the eternal time traveller Trikaal Devi, so when she finally appeared to them they asked her for a boon which she granted them saying they could only choose one strand of time travel though as they could not handle more. Aru chose to read time whilst Nemi chose to time travel hoping to still be able to gain immortality by casting this choice. Now they could both use their boons to do good in the world or they could turn their boons to evil. Their only other condition was that their clocks were to be synchronised to one another, so if one died the other died too. This did not worry Aru, however Nemi wanted to become invincible and would not allow for this clause to deter him from becoming a world tyrant. The actions he took to safeguard his life were the last poor Aru expected from his friend, and in the end still did not serve the evil one at all. Aru was the only one able to stop the demon of time Nemi had turned into, bringing chaos and death to thousands of people in all time spans to which he travelled. I really enjoyed this amazing prequel sci-fi fantasy novel about time travel and time demons whereby greed for power is so well depicted and showing how power can corrupt. I really have to read further into the series as I find time travel interesting and what could be done with such a power to be very challenging.

Disciples of Trikaal is the prequel to the Time Travellers Series by Varun Sayal. Honestly, I am not a sci-fi person but Varun’s works are so engaging and well-written that you are bound to keep reading them.

Aru and Nemi are disciples of Trikaal Devi. Their motive is to please her and ask her for some boons to make their lives easier. While Aru decides to be a Time Reader, Nemi needs something more magnificent and he chooses to acquire the power of Time Travelling and off he goes on his endless expeditions. Nemi’s bloodlust turns him into the villain, so much so that his insecurity forces him to even captivate Aru and his pregnant wife. With their lives tied together, dependent on each other, they have to be careful about everything that they do. Read the book to know how time travelling and time reading came into being and gave rise to many similar people in their clan.

I love Varun’s writing style. It is simple, elegant and yet gripping. Every page keeps tempting you to read ahead. The book is a short one with the primary purpose to establish the ground work for the sequels and explain the concepts of time travelling even better. It takes you to the beginning of the time and what happened then, which later gave birth to the terrible Kumbh, Vetri and Nefe. The characters are well developed keeping in mind the length of the book but there surely is scope for a full-fledged book out there. I must point here that Varun creates some really horrendous villains without making the entire sequence and scenes gothic. The explanations for various phenomena are well explained for a new reader, yet the book is not dragged and maintains a consistent pace. The book cover is gorgeous with a hooded man, standing in front of a huge clock dial. All his books have simple, uncluttered yet attractive covers. With this series, he has brought a perfect amalgam of science with a tinge of mythology. Overall, it was a wonderful read for me. Though a prequel, it can be well-read as a standalone.

This story is really interesting. It reveals how people react in different situations. It shows us how power can corrupt a person, or how it can lead that person in being a better one with helping those in need.
Aru and Nemi are the main characters in this story, friends with different personalities. They tried to please a diety (it turns out it isn't a goddess, just a hzman being with the knowledge of time traveling) so they could receive a rich prize, a boon. She appears in majestical manner, and they've received the knowledge about time traveling, each a different one,but if one dies the other one dies too.
Soon after they return to their everyday life, but now their true nature comes to light.
What powers did they receive? Who did it best to help people aroud him, and who used his powers for his own selfish benefit? What happend to them?
Answers are hidden in this unusual and one-of-a-kind story, prequel of Time Travelers series.
The language and style are easy to follow, story was well developed. It was a nice and fast read, especially if one loves a mix of fantasy and science-fiction. It just needs a bit more tuning, to expand a story bit more, all happend a bit fast and sudden in my opinion. But all in all it is a good book.

This book is a prequel of the author's time travellers series.
Aru and Nemi, pupils of same sage, decide to please Trikaal Devi in order to get the powers over time. After praying for years, their wish gets granted but they could have power over only one rule of time. Aru and Nemi make their choices but there were further strings attached to the boon, though their wishes were fulfilled, their lives were now tied to each other, if one dies so does the other. What this power does to Aru and Nemi? What events take place when they exercise their powers? What fate awaited them? (Read the book to find out!)
The story is interesting and engaging and the reader gets glued to it after five minutes into the book. The language is simple and easy to understand. The book can be finished in one sitting as it is engaging and a short read. Some events are very well written and you can easily visualise them in your head. I hope the characters were more developed and had more depth to them. Also, the description of places mentioned in the story was quite limited. The end was predictable and not something out of the blue or jaw dropping but I adore the book for its engaging story and maintenance of pace which doesn't let the reader lose interest.

Sci-fi Time Travel
Provided by Author
⭐⭐⭐⭐

The cover of this little prequel is amazing and so appropriate for this book. This should catch eyes everywhere. Too bad it’s not for a longer book, cause this cover will sell books.

The story is just as unique as everything else we’ve gotten from this author. The influence of his Indian cultural background is evident and used very well throughout as is his mathematical education. This is the creation story and prequel for the Time Travelers series, which I have reviewed previously here and here. This sets the stage for what we read in the short stories and novels of the time-traveling novels of the series Mr. Sayal has crafted so well. I would have preferred that this were longer and had gone into a bit more of the stories of these two disciples locked together in their yin and yang roles. But what the author has provided is created with the precision of just exactly what we need to understand the past and just how much we need to whet our appetites to want more. Recommended.

"Disciples of Trikaal" is a prequel to the "Time Travelers" book series by Varun Sayal and it's an epic science fiction story that involves time travelling. The main character is Aru, who is trying to save his family and the world by Nemi. He used to be friends with Nemi, but now they're enemies and he has to defeat him to protect his loved ones.
The story is fast paced and really enjoyable. There are a lot of well-described action scenes and the reader can feel the agony of the book characters himself/herself. As I've already said, this is a prequel to the "Time Travelers" series, so it provides some information that is useful and interesting for those, who've read book one and book two.
Aru is a brave and loyal man that tries his best to make things right. On the other hand, Nemi is a villain that he only seems to care about himself. Both of them are well-written, but the reader gets to like Aru.
All in all, "Disciples of Trikaal" is the perfect story for those, who enjoy reading science fiction. If you are a fan of the series you should read this prequel.

Good concept, average treatment

Time travel is always a ravishing concept because we humans are always constrained by time and when we read that someone csn traverse time, it always fascinates us, albeit in our imagination.
This book has a great concept of two different types of time travel and all but a concept with a great potential has been marred by a mediocre treatment and average narrative.
Too many things have been made easy or shall I say, convenient for the characters.
And the big question, how did Nemi find Aru when he was always landing on random time slices outside of his control - a big technical flaw.
And the portrayal of men as lust thirsty beasts also looks very regressive, stereotypical and cliched.

Overall, not a great reading experience. It deserves 1 star, but I added a star extra for the concept and the scientific accuracy in storytelling.

**** SPOILER ALERT ****
"Disciples Of Trikaal" was my Introduction to Sayal's writing.
The author packed in an immense amount of world building and character development into a very small package.
Nemi is a case study showing that absolute power corrupts absolutely.
I was entertained by this tale and only have one complaint. The story is too short!
In the interest of transparency: I received a free review copy of this book and I am voluntarily sharing this review. It is my own honest opinion.

I found this as an interesting, quick read. It definitely kept me reading and looking forward to start reading again.

The mixture of SciFy and ethnic beliefs was very powerful. The structure and English language use does seem to make the writer having English as a strong second language.

I'm looking forward to reading more from this author!

The book is good throughout. Though at the end it does feel like it is just setting up a premise for the next books, which it is.

At times the mention of blank holes and time travel do an okay job of keeping the story in the sci-fi genre, the book keeps oscillating between a mythological narration and a science fiction involving time travel.

Hoping the other books in the series do a better job of explaining the science, and building up the myths.

After Reading Time Crawlers by Varun Sayal, I was looking forward to read the other works by him and decided to read this Time Travelers Series.

The Disciples of Trikaal was short set up stories of Time Travelers Series and very well build up. Smart Writing.

This books shows a glimpses of different eras of Past and Future. Very well written and not highlighted too many technologies in future part which was good thing as Varun Sayal stick to take the stories and don't write boring details of Future Technologies.

Conclusions:
Smart Writing
Amazing Concept
Fun to Read.
