Extinction Level Event – Extinction Book 1 – Pandemic caused Apocalypse and Post-Apocalyptic Survival Fiction.

The virus, a new bioweapon, had escaped the Russian Level 4 lab and billions are dying. The man’s body hit the side of the ledge, raining rocks and blood down on the trail below. Jon heard a woman’s scream just in time to see the blood running down the woman’s face before she crashed into him. Even though Jon had been covered in the woman’s blood, he found he and a few others were immune to the deadly virus. Everywhere around him are dead and dying people with blood oozing from their eyes, mouth, and ears.

The CDC wants his blood to help make a vaccine. They need all of his blood. Jon fights a rogue CDC unit with the help of a sassy Artificial Intelligence controlled Jeep, his dog, and his other immune friends.

The apocalypse was horrible but being hunted for your blood was much worse.

Loved it.

This is an amazing read I've read a couple of the author's books and they were very good as well. A brilliant book, even though there are some stupid juvenile words that come out of Jons's mouth to do with the girls, the story beats everything hands down. I recommend it.

I wanted to like this book, but there were too many issues with it for me to enjoy it. There are some editing issues (Barbra instead of Barbara etc) and generally the writing is very wooden. The dialogue is stilted and does not flow well. I did rather enjoy the conversations between Jon and AI-Samantha and Bo is a home run. However, one of the biggest surprises is that Jon actually makes it across country...in one piece. He get drunk several times, crashing a car, running around in a plane that he can't fly, nearly dying (drunk) in Vegas. He deems it important to get money and jewels in the apocalypse. He is continually distracted (in the apocalypse) by his female companions and besides the interactions being very juvenile, it all seems to pander to a guy's fantasy of being the last man on earth with a bunch of scantily clad, beautiful women. This on top of a CDC that has gone crazy and just kidnaps and kills people they think are immune. If I thought the next book might only have Samantha and Bo in it tooling around the country, I might continue, but I guess I won't chance it.

Good

I’m genuinely a little conflicted about this book. I enjoyed most of the story, and then there were the little nuggets where I just wanted to stop reading... the parts where the MC drank the booze and almost died in the car crash, and drank the booze and almost fell from the top stood the Las Vegas casino... in some scenarios he came across as a bungling idiot and in others, well not. And then loading up all the gold and jewelry in the casino in the apocalypse? I also enjoyed the parts with Samantha, and missed that in the latter part of the story.

Great read

Wow I really enjoyed this book. AJ continues to surprise and entertain us with his writing. He obviously is well traveled or has an incredible research ability to be so specific in his description of where the characters are traveling. Oh by the way one of my favorite characters in this book is Samantha.

Great start for a series!

We have surviving characters, evolving in their survival mode, mad scientists, a plan to save others and even a dog and A1 truck with a snarky attitude! Wonderful read! Looking forward to the sequal.
