Although I enjoyed this book, I definitely have some complaints about this. 🙂 First of all, the MCs don’t meet “at all” until 55% mark. And boy, isn’t that a long time to meet your fated mate? 🤦‍♀️ And there are two secondary characters’ death in the story. I don’t know about you but I hate deaths in books unless it’s a murder mystery or the deceased is an A-hole. 🤷‍♀️ I cried for their deaths. I wanted cute and fluffy and this turned out quite angsty. 😒 I guess I’ll still read the second book because I’m kinda invested in the supporting characters but this book’s blurb wasn’t helpful at all if you are looking for cute, fluffy and low-angst. I loved Dillan though. He was such a cutie.

Dillan has been a cat as long as he can remember. But he's no ordinary cat. He can understand his humans, he eats at the table and sleeps in a bed. He watches movies and communicates as best he can. But, he ventures out of the house and is suddenly lost.

Rhy and his pack run a PI firm. When a sweet little old lady comes in wanting Rhy to find her missing cat, Rhy can't resist. And when he gets a whiff of the cat's sent in his room, it becomes even more imperative he find the cat. He just doesn't understand why.

This was a sweet story. Dillan is just too precious. Near the end, with Mary-Anne, it made me tear up a bit. I was hoping for a different outcome but I understand why it had to be that way. My biggest complaint is that it took them 50% before they even actually meet. Then, things move pretty quick. Since it was a mate story, I was looking for them to spend a little more time together than that.

There's other mates finding each other so I can't wait for their stories. And poor Logan...I want to know what is going on with him. I'll definitely be watching for more books in this series.

This went up and down for me. At first I was enjoying it despite the few issues I had and I was thinking 4 stars. Then it slowly went to 3.5 stars and at the end I was leaning towards 3 stars.

So 3.25 stars then.

Rhy works at a PI firm with his fellow pack mates. When an older woman comes in to ask him to please find her cat Mr. Flufkinks, Rhy feels the urge to help the woman, even though they normally don’t look for pets.

After looking for the black house cat for a few days Rhy noticed that he’s getting more and more obsessed with finding the creature, but he’s not sure why that is.

Meanwhile Dillan can’t find his way home to Mary-Ann. Mary-Ann may have called him Mr. Flufkins, but her husband Sam always called him Dillan, so he figured he likes that name more.

Dillan knows he is smarter than regular cats, but he doesn’t know how to be anything but a cat. When he runs into someone who tells him he is a shifter and that he should shift, Dillan is confused. But when he tries to do as he’s told he suddenly finds he can turn into a human!

I was a bit bummed that the first half moved so slow. I was interested enough to see how Dillan would figure out he was really a shifter and I was anxiously awaiting the moment where Rhy would finally find him. But when Rhy was still looking for ‘Mr. Flufkins’ around 40%, I got a little bored. The search was waaay too detailed.

I was sure it would all get better once these two meet, but somehow there was too much other stuff going on that I slowly felt my interest waning.

There were also a couple of things in the writing I found odd. Like how Dillan had a fight with his friend and he was about to call him to make up, but then we never get to witness that call, nor is it ever mentioned again. The two are suddenly just friend again. That was strange. Those sort of things happened several times in the second half. Perhaps the author ran out of time and decided to just skip certain things?

Too bad because I did like it at first.
This also ends in a bit of a cliffhanger. Nothing too bad, but it still annoyed me.

3.4 stars.

This story was so good in a lot of ways, but fell flat in terms of the romance and worldbuilding.

The premise is fascinating. A couple adopt a cat and treat it like their child. Turns out, the cat is a shifter but doesn't remember he was once in human shape... until he gets lost and goes through a journey to find his way home (literally and metaphorically). His relationship with his foster parents is absolutely beautiful and there were copious tears when we learn why they adopted him (as a cat).

There's a FANTASTIC mystery in Dylan's history... and I was excited for the book to be about solving that. But... nope!

The first half of the book is so good as the two partners are journeying towards each other and we get peeks into Dylan's mysterious past. However, once they meet, it's instant love/lust and they cannot resist each other. I really hate that there is no relationship development and no working together to solve the mystery. Just endless amounts of sex. I had to skip because it didn't mean anything to me since there was no relationship development.

I was irritated by the "ha ha, Dylan shouldn't be allowed to cook" and "he's so innocent" vs "I'm an adult and can make my own choices".

This young man lived as a cat until yesterday and yet your biology won't allow you to wait at ALL!?

Also, why didn't they ask Marianne where they found Dylan? Why aren't they investigating where he's from and what happened?

Also, having multiple couples find their fated mates in the same book is a bit much.

This book could have been SOOO good. It had so much potential.

Safety deets
- Rhy is celibate, waiting for his fated mate. Not sure if he's ever been with anyone. It's possible he's a virgin.
- Dylan is definitely a virgin since he's been a cat almost his whole life.
- No other people and they definitely get super possessive when they first meet.
- They are together at the end but we don't get to see an epilogue in their future.

Book safety, content warnings, and tropes down below.

There were no humans who were like Doctor Dolittle. That was one of Dillan's favorite movies, and he’d always wished he knew a human he could talk to.

I think this one is (mostly) a case of ‘it’s not you, it’s me’. I had some pretty high expectations due to a facebook comment (I never, ever learn), which the book wasn’t able to meet. It’s not bad by any means, but what I bought the book for didn’t happen, so my thoughts are very much colored by that. It also gives new meaning to ‘slow burn’, considering the MCs don’t actually meet until 50%. The stuff happening before they meet is entertaining, but it did reach a point where it felt a little silly. I liked the found family aspect, and I wish I could continue reading, as the books aren’t at all standalones. There’s a new couple for every book, but each couples’ story continues in the other books. If the books were in KU I might have continued.

The editing left a lot to be desired too, unfortunately. It somehow got worse as the book went on.

The tiger shifter MC didn’t shift a single time during the book :( Can’t believe they didn’t cash in on having a tiger snuggle a house cat. Swing and a miss.

"It's probably scared," Karen said. Alex huffed and flipped him off. If Dillan had fingers, he would return the favor. Instead, he glared at Alex, daring him to get close. This time, Dillan wouldn't miss his face; he would scratch Alex to ribbons. "It's fucking glaring at me."

A little bit slow to get to the whole meeting each other part but it was enjoyable and I like how 2 other couples were set up for the next 2 books in the series.
I listened to the audiobook 🎧 the narrator was new to me, he did a good job. I would rather the rest of the series be available on audio just so I could listen while I’m at work because I’m impatient like that 🙈 but I’ll definitely read the rest. 3.5⭐️

Great beginning, then a classic insta-love

I really enjoyed the first half of the book. A shifter novel where the main character believes he’s actually a cat due to some unknown traumatic event from his childhood? I’ve never seen it before, and it was incredibly absorbing. I felt like I got to know Dillan pretty well, and the group of shifted detectives were also an interesting addition.

*spoilers ahead!*

Sadly there is so much left unexplored in this novel. After Dillan discovers he’s actually a human, things take a turn for the worst. We never find out why Dillan was trapped as a cat. We never find out about his parents. We don’t get to see Dillan struggle to be a human, aside from some complications with his ears and tail. If this character truly was trapped as a cat for 18 years, then he would at the very least have some emotional baggage, some trouble with relationships and friendships. He would have to figure out how to walk, to read, to navigate a phone. I also found it really hard to believe that he wouldn’t want to immediately go back to Mary Anne, since she was literally ALL DILLAN HAS EVER KNOWN. It would have made for interesting conflict to see Dillan struggle with the desire to be with his mate and his mom. The author’s choice to have Mary Anne be dying was way too convenient, and honestly deprived this story of some great scenes. The multiple shock “matings” at the end were the icing on a very sloppy cake.

Overall, I wanted to like this, but left feeling like the ending sort of ruined it. 3 stars for originality of concept.

This was definitely a bit slow forthe first half; the two MC's did not even meet each other till the halfway point of the book. Other than that this book was totally AWESOME!!! And if you read this and at least have the emotional disposition of more than a rock expect to cry... more than once for sure! I love these characters and how their chosen familly is growing. So now it is on to book two!

I like this author quite bit, not love but I’m sure it will get there. This was probably some of their sweeter work, I mean there was no blood?.?.?.

While I thought it was a good enjoyable read, I was disappointed we didn’t really end up getting to completely finish Dillon and Rhys story, I understand the stories are meant to run together, it’s just not a format I enjoy too much.

His Bewildered Mate is a typical shifter's romance. Where soul mate's who meet know instantly they are fated, to be with each other and have sex as soon as they can. From this point of view I was bored, because I haven't read anything new.

Audiobook Review:
Overall – 5
Performance – 5
Story – 5

I liked this a lot!

His Bewildered Mate is the first book I’ve read/listened to by Brea Alepoú and I really enjoyed it. I’ve listened to one other book that Lance West performed and enjoyed it; that is a big part of the reason that I wanted to listen to this and review it.

The story was really sweet and I liked all of the characters. Rhy wanted to help an older lady find her cat but it wasn’t easy. Mr. Fluffkins wandered away from the only home he’d ever known and then got lost. He had quite an adventure before he was found. The blurb lets you know that Mr. Fluffkins isn’t your average house cat. 😊

There are a couple of sad bits in the story but overall, it was just a really sweet and enjoyable listening experience. Lance West did another fine job performing this audiobook but, as in the first one of his that I listened to, I had to increase the playback speed quite a bit. That’s not really a negative comment. I make it mostly so that other listeners might want to try increasing the speed if they don’t enjoy it at normal speed. I’m surprised at how many people I know have never tried this when they find themselves not enjoying an audiobook as much as they expected to.

I’m definitely interested in continuing this series if the remaining books come out in audio format.

I received this audiobook at no-cost from Audiobook Empire. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.

Okay, okay I know this cover is awful, but try to look past it because the story took me by complete surprise. At one point I even found myself tearing up which I was unprepared for the sudden rush of feels to say the least. It was just a tender-hearted slow burn, filled with so many wonderful, charismatic secondary characters that I can't wait to see them all get happily-ever-afters.

So lets start with sweet, naïve Dillan who spent most of his life as a cat for the most adorable couple ever. I was a little disappointed we didn't get clarity on why Dillan didn't know he was a shifter, we just learn that there is most certainly some heavy, dark trauma there. But I enjoyed how Dillan's owners treated him like he was a human, reading to him, taking him camping, and feeding him human food. And it's all thanks to Dillan's humans that he meets Rhy.

It's totally insta-love when Rhy and Dillan meet but I guess that's the case for most fated mates. But I liked that they owned up to that and admit its all fate working its magic. Their chemistry is off the charts but I enjoyed watching the tender moments between them and how nurturing and loving Rhy was. Dillan also took me by surprise with his mischievous, teasing side. I even found myself tearing up from one of the plot twist and I was certainly not expecting it! By the end I was left with so many questions (the good kind) and there was plenty of room for the series to grow and expand (can't wait to read the next one).

Great Concept but Too Many Errors.

I have a difficult time rating this book. It is my first read by this a
author. I ended up with 2 1/2 stars.

The idea for the story is brilliant. A shifter living as a house cat and not understanding that he is a shifter. The elderly couple with whom he lived were sweet. The Shifter PI hired to find the missing cat not understanding that the scent in the couple's house affects him because it is his fated mate's scent. Loved the concept.

As the story progressed I wondered why aren't the shifter PIs asking about the violent memories Dillan obviously had? I love hot sexy books. The sex in this story was thought out by the author, but I was not getting the emotions. I started skipping over the sex scene. I would have liked a little more background on Now these friends formed their own pack and why they were alone, with no pack, when they were young.

Now the final and most annoying problem. Errors! Sentences that didn't make sense because of words left out. Each time put a sudden stop to my reading flow. I had to stop, reread and try to understand what the author was trying to say. Nothing is more irritating than having one's flow of reading stopped. EDIT. Have someone else proofread your work. Put your work down. Come back to it a day or so later when you proofread. EDIT.

This is a shifter romance with a fated mate trope on it. It's been a while since I read a paranormal romance so it was quite refreshing? Lol.😁

So the premise sounded intriguing for me so I immediately started reading this after downloading it (for free!) from the Kindle store.

We have Dillan who started as a cat who can understand human language but not his fellow cats. It was fun to read from his perspective especially when he was still a cat. He was cute.😍

Rhy is a weretiger who accepted the job of looking for the missing cat, that is Dillan.

I love how the plot progresses. The earlier half is quite entertaining and I enjoyed it and assumed this will be a 5 star read for me. But then the "fated mate love at first sight" thing happened and it kinda lost me.😑

Dillan suddenly became a pro at being human and just... the romance was too abrupt for me.✌

Then the nsfw parts came in and it really was too fast of a development for me.

The secondary characters are likeable and I want to know their story too. I like that the story is light majority of the time.

Great read. A light, cute and a bit funny paranormal romance read.👍❤

A very fun read with plenty of sexy times and even some emotion to kick you in the heart near the end. Features Mr. Dillian Fluffykins, a cat shifter unaware that he is in fact a shifter. He lives 18 years thinking he's just a really smart house cat. But one day he gets lost and separated from his beloved home!! But no need to fear. His trusty granny owner enlists a tiger shifter P.I. to bring her beloved Mr. Fluffykins home. P.I. Rhy goes to look for the missing feline when he catches a strange scent. A very captivating and erm-stimulating scent. Teh-heh! I had such fun with this book! I just adored Dillian's POV as a cat! The heated cant-keep-my-hands-off-you attraction between Dillian and Rhy was a mouthwatering bonus. There were one or two plot holes and a bunch of grammatical errors, but given the light-hearted spirit of the book I was willing to overlook those flaws. I think most fujoshi would love this book, it has a real manga-vibe about it.

I don't really know what to say about this book. The idea sounded so cute but the execution just wasn't there for me. The two MC's don't meet until about 1/2 way through the book and then they immediately bond, have lots of sex and fall in love. There are a ton of secondary characters and the set-up for several future mates in the next books. Honestly some of that could have waited. Why set up the books for the next 2 books. The problem I had other than the instant love was that not a lot happens just a lot of set-up for stuff that will probably happen in future books. The character depth was pretty lacking as well. I already own the second book so I may try it but I'm not in a hurry to continue this series.

Very unique story! Quite cool idea, but the rendition was not as good as it could have been. Most likely won't read again.

First of all this whole book was about Rhy and Dillan, but we never learn anything about Dillon's story :(. I also didn't like how the author pushed all the other matings on us. It was quite annoying - that's what the other books should be about, not this one. Also the whole thing came sort of out of nowhere. Why couldn't Logan explain it?? We could also read about it in the book and not be cut off right after we learn about it. Not nice.

I really liked this book. Loved both MCs but especially Dillan. I found it interesting that most of the shifters in the book didn’t really understand true mates and how to recognize them when they appeared. My biggest complaint is we don’t get answers to Dillan’s backstory and why he was stuck as a cat for so long. I’m really hoping that we get answers in a future installment in the series.

Started good but halfway it went meh

Honestly it was really good and captivating at the beginning, but about halfway through it became a snooze. Emotions developed from 0 to 10 in about 2 pages, and then followed about 2-3 chapters of sex scenes. MC personalities went from ok to flat. Story halted and then it just ended. I got so disappointed since it had a good build-up, not going to bother with the sequel since I don't feel like it has any story to build on.

Very cute, funny and sweet. I like the premise of unusual mates. Dillion is a cat, who doesn’t even know he’s a shifter. Rhy is a tiger, a PI hired to look for a lost cat. Lots of chemistry and a regular sexathon. Missed opportunity was we never got to see Rhy shift to a tiger and cuddle with his cat Dillion.

Only down side to this sweet book was the editing errors, where the wrong character names were used.

Absolutely adorable story. It could stand one more editing session but it wasn’t the worst that I’ve read. Besides it’s Mpreg and y’all already know.
I’m moving on to the next book and I cannot wait. I especially like how all the stories intertwine with each other. I will recommend if very minor editing while you read isn’t a turn off!
Happy reading!!!

Cute read. It takes a long time for the two MCs to meet. The story is pretty much an insta-love. There is a bit of ... well, I'm not sure cliffhanger fits maybe just a lot left to be seen. I do think it was a nice read just not great. There are numerous errors in the editing. Lots of wrong names and sentences that don't make sense. I've seen worse but it could have been better.

I knew Rhy and Dillan wouldn't meet until the 50% mark, but I thought it would be more interesting. The romance is supposedly a slow burn one (according to the author) but, really, being destined mates they just jumped into it so.... well, it wasn't an incredible book neither was it bad.
