But with a tiny budget and an injured employee who can’t work, she has no choice but to sink the last of her savings into buying a dilapidated food truck and hiring Rhett as a part-time barista. Sweet Melody By: Heidi McCahan
*REVIEW* ☕☕☕☕ Lately, I just like stories about bakeries and coffee. Sweet Melody is indeed a story about a bakery owned by Lindsay, a young woman with a tragic past. She witnessed the death of her parents dream restaurant, and not long after, they died in a car accident. Now, here she is in a small coastal town in Washington, working to keep her bakery open and pursuing her big dream of owning a food truck. Lindsay is struggling with new competition in town, negative reviews and an injured barista. Enter Rhett, a young guy with his own sad past, gone bust as a Nashville songwriter, has had his heart broken, so he decides to go home. There awaits his wealthy overbearing father. Rhett has been a failure to his father's way of thinking and wants to redeem himself. Rhett ends up in Lindsay's town working for his father as a scout for possible new restaurant/food truck locations. Soon, Rhett ends up at Lindsay's bakery. Turns out, he has barista skills, so she hires him. Soon, sparks fly. It's a slow burn relationship. These two have infinite baggage. Neither reveals much about the past, so they don't realize they share a link that could destroy everything. Rhett realizes that his father's business has the potential to crush Lindsay's dreams. What a dilemma! The story is compelling about making choices and moving forward in life, as Lindsay and Rhett must do. They are adorable and sweet, of course. I only wish both of them wouldn't let people walk on them as much, and have a bit more gumption. What happens when the past returns? Do dreams thrive or die in the adversity? No spoilers, so here's hoping their true selves solidify and grow, realizing they are more than the sum of their problems. Lindsay and Rhett deserve happiness. This is a feel good clean contemporary romance with quaint small town vibes and aromatic lattes. It's a very good read overall for fans of the genre. I recommend for something light, happy and a little bit spicy.
Sweet Melody is the first book of what I hope develops into a series set in idyllic Seabrook, Washington. On the one hand, the plot is a familiar one – girl meets boy, attraction and friendship soon grow into something more, but certain facts are held back that could crush any chance for a positive outcome – yet the skill and execution of author Heidi McCahan elevates the story to so much more. It’s a fun, heartwarming, emotionally engaging read with compelling spiritual truths gently woven in. I was hooked from the beginning and enjoyed every minute spent with these characters.
One striking thing about this book is the beautiful backdrop of Seabrook, Washington – a peaceful, idyllic setting that becomes a tourist hotspot during certain seasons. It’s the perfect location and community for the story of Lindsay and Rhett, and I think readers will fall under its spell – maybe even visit there if ever in the area.
Rhett and Lindsay are appealing, relatable lead characters, both with past situations that make them not quite ready for a relationship. This story blends the careers of baking/food truck with music/song writing, and they were totally believable. I longed for Lindsay to succeed with her business and for Rhett to finally be able to write the song on his heart. I didn’t even mind waiting for things to come crashing down when Rhett’s family secret was revealed, the author’s writing was that good.
Past experiences had given both Rhett and Lindsay reasons to question the goodness of God, which touches most of our lives at times. Communication, forgiveness, restoration and redemption play key parts in the story. Whether mistakenly or not, Rhett felt that what he had to offer would never be enough for his Dad. Everyone needs someone like Rhett’s friend, Jae, in their lives – a friend who can speak truth in gentle ways. Jae reminds Rhett that God doesn’t see failure when He looks at us, and that He uses circumstances to teach important truths. Jae’s words – that his life was “everything I never knew I wanted” – especially spoke to me.
As I said earlier, I do hope for more Seabrook stories because the story of two secondary characters begs to be told – that of Catherine and Micah. Catherine, a close friend who helps Lindsay in her bakery, is a successful author who just happens to have a politician father with presidential aspirations. Micah obviously cares about her, but past issues or addictions make him feel unsuited and unworthy. Now there’s a story to be told!
Sweet Melody is “a cut above” within the contemporary romance genre. A recommended read and an author I want to follow.
I received a copy of this book through Prism Book Tours. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
Sweet Melody is one of those books that is full of whimsy and has just the right amount of sweetness without giving you a toothache.
Lindsay is the owner of a bakery in the small coastal town of Seabrook in the Pacific Northwest. She’s devoted her life to continuing her parents’ legacy even if it means losing herself along the way.
Rhett is the son of a wealthy businessman and restauranteur. With his song writing career dwindling, he leaves Nashville I hopes of pleasing his father in the family business. He is tasked with scoping out Seabrook as a new opportunity, but he doesn’t anticipate his connection with Lindsay.
This was such a whimsical and heartfelt read. That’s not to say it was without drama and hardship because it definitely was. I just got so wrapped up in both Lindsay and Rhett as well as all of the baked goods!
One of my favorite characters was actually Catherine. She’s that strong, independent friend that’s 100% looking out for Lindsay and refuses to back down. I loved that she was always the voice of reason but still comes around when it matters most.
Overall, if you’re looking for a light-hearted romance that also features som delectable desserts, this will be up your alley.
Thank you to Just Read Tours and the author for providing a review copy. This did not influence my review. All opinions are my own.
I’m excited to kick off the week with Sweet Melody! This was a charming love story, that will bring a smile to your face.
Rhett is trying to make it in Nashville (I always get excited when someone writes about the town I live in!) but when he has no luck, he returns home to Portland, OR. His family owns a successful restaurant chain, so when his Dad asks him to move to a coastal vacation spot to see if they should put a restaurant there, he jumps at the chance! He figures he needs a job to fit in with the locals, and meets the bakery owner, Lindsay!
She is stressed to the max! She is trying to keep her business afloat, has an employee who is injured and debating if a food truck can save her bakery. She takes a chance on hiring Rhett and then neither of them can ignore the sparks between them!
This was my first book by Heidi MacCahan and it was great! Also it was my first audio book with @justreadtours. I’m such a big audio book 🎧 fan and this one was fantastic. If you like a Hallmarkish, feel good, you can picture Candace Bure playing the main character story- then this one is for you!
Another sweet and heart-searching book by Heidi McCahan. The author’s writing style, as always, is easy to read and the plot is well-paced and easy to follow. The main characters Rhett and Lindsay are both emotionally broken people but so lovable. Rhett, broken by the world’s and his father’s rejection of his music, becomes unwittingly involved in his step-brother and father’s scheme to expand the family’s restaurant business into a small resort town of Seabrook. Though battered down by the world, Rhett still holds on to his dream and even dares to fall in love with Lindsay though circumstances are not optimal. Lindsay is a baker in the resort town of Seabrook who is barely making ends meet but dreams of owning a food truck to offer baked goods. Burned by a previous relationship and still mourning the death of her parents, she’s bitter and insecure. Through their friendship and relationship, both Rhett and Lindsay learn about holding onto their dreams, letting go of their past hurts and mistakes, and granting and receiving forgiveness.
If you enjoy a heart-warming contemporary romance, you will really enjoy this book. I received a copy of the book from the author and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.
UPDATED *Finished listening to the audio book version and it was very good! The narrator did a good job and had a pleasant voice. It was so nice to experience this story through audio this time!*
I really enjoyed this romantic story! Now, this is one of those situations where sometimes I wanted to talk some sense into the hero, Rhett Foster. He could have saved a lot of heartache between himself and Lindsay Carmichael if he had spoken up about who his family was earlier in the book. However, the fact that he didn’t, led to some great conflict and confrontation eventually.
I really did love the way the attraction and romance brewed between these main characters (pun intended, as the hero was the barista). Both Lindsay and Rhett were hurt in multiple ways in the past and carry their own insecurities, ensuring that falling in love would not be something easily achievable between these two.
I really enjoyed this book and the community that was introduced in it. I look forward to returning to Seabrook and reading future stories set there.
(4.5 stars)
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
I love when I can relax and enjoy a book that makes me feel good to read it. This one fit that to a "T".
This is a sweet romance about two people who are trying desperately to make their chosen careers work. They both have issues from their pasts that they are hanging on to and need to let go before they can heal and fully move on with their lives.
My heart went out to Rhett. He was dealing with a ton of disappointment and hurt. Nashville left him empty instead of giving him a boost to his music career. His family is not there for him. He's really a good guy with a ton to offer the world. Fortunately, he landed in Seabrook where he met Lindsay, someone who needed him as much as he needed her.
This book is a "happily-ever-after" but there is a ton of story from the beginning to the end. At times I wondered how in the heck the two would work things out. What I got was a story that had depth and a great storyline. I am definitely glad that I took the opportunity to read this book.
This story contains Christian themes. My favorite quote from the book is "When God looks at you, He doesn't see failure."

That first line may be the case for poor Lindsay but it was definitely not true of Sweet Melody. Heidi McCahan is an author whose backlist I now need to devour as soon as I have time (pardon my slightly-stressed crazed laughter at the thought of free time) and whose future releases will be must-reads for my TBR pile.
Sweet Melody was, in fact, everything I wanted it to be.
Rhett is swoonilicious as an aspiring country music singer/songwriter with the brooding good looks to go with it. Plus he’s sweet and considerate and falling head over heels for Lindsay, husky voice and meaningful eye contact and yearning and all. His issues with his dad and the bombshell secret he’s harboring between the proverbial rock and a hard place add a little edge to his personality, too. Lindsay is exactly the kind of person you’d want as a BFF – she laughs easily, cares deeply, and wants to make her bakery a success to honor her parents’ legacy. She’s super talented at making various yummy baked goodies so you’d have a steady supply of cake pops and cupcakes and macarons.
Their romance starts with an instant attraction that builds to a really sweet & fun friendship as well as some serious chemistry and breathless, heart-achingly lovely kisses throughout the story. The outcome is fairly Hallmark-predictable from the beginning (there’s a reason we love those movies though – it works!), but that’s totally fine because a) see parenthetical statement I just made and b) Sweet Melody is so much more than “just” a romance. At the soul of the story is a tender theme of chasing your dreams despite the roadblocks that you encounter along the way – and supporting those you love in the same journey. It’s an ode to friendship and community, and even family – the one you’re born into and the one you, often unexpectedly, build as life goes on.
Bottom Line: Sweet Melody will have you booking a trip to the cozy coastal town of Seabrook, the real-life town coming alive under the author’s talented scene-setting. Layered and engaging characters become instant friends, and I’m looking forward to the stories still to come from this delightful mix of people. Faith, family, friendship, and chasing dreams combine with a sweet and swoony romance to give readers a compelling and thoroughly enjoyable story from start to finish. If you’re a fan of Hallmark movies or Irene Hannon’s Hope Harbor series, you’ll want to grab a copy of Sweet Melody for yourself!
(I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book)
I really really enjoyed reading this book. It was such a comfortable and easy read. Right away I admired the strong spirit and determination of the Lindsay. Despite all she had been through I loved reading about how she was determined to make her dreams of her bakery come through. I loved reading about how hardworking she was. One admirable virtue of hers that strucked me was the way she avoided speaking harshly to people that hurt her. She avoided verbal confrontations when she was sure she would have nothing good to say. Honestly, I wish everyone was like her and would shut up when they know their words would hurt. Her lack of depth with God at the beginning made her want to be in control and depend on her self but her turn around journey was very interesting to read about. Everyone needs a Catherine in their lives. She was Linds assistant and best friend since forever, her faith in God and her willingness to share it with her friend Linds and help her through her tough periods was awesome.
It was such a beautiful twist to read on how Rhett came into her life while trying to figure out his own. His pain, family history and failures already cast a deep shadow on him but in time he learnt to let go and allow God heal and to leave things in God’s care. He had to learn through different painful experiences that when God looks at him he does not see a failure and that all the talents and gifts God has put on the inside of him would have their opportunities to be expressed. He had to learn to forgive his father over the pain of loosing his mum and move on to the future God had for him. Rhett refused to give up on his dreams even when it seemed like he was never going to make it.
I loved reading about the zing, zing attract between them and how their love grew. It was beautiful to read about how two people with a history of a lot of hurt, pain and betrayal can learn to forgive and find love together.
Together they both learnt that if they wanted to succeed they would have to learn to adapt and trust God even when things do not happen as they want it to.
The author’s writing style was awesome. Even though it was a romance novel, the book wasn't swimming with heated scenes. It was very clean to read. I enjoyed it immensely. I hope to read more from this author. Ah, the setting of the book was a perfect holiday scene with the backdrop of the pacific ocean and the beach. It was educating reading about the bakery and how different treats are made.
I received a copy of this book for my honest review. All options expressed here are mine.
Sweet Melody is a sweet story. I loved that it was written surrounding a bakery. I think I was hungry for some dessert the entire audiobook. Lindsay's life hasn't been easy she's had more than a few bumps in the road. And having her own bakery can add more weight. It's her dream to have her bakery take off to add a food truck also. But with competitors in both store front and food truck Lindsay's faith is tested. When she needs part time barista she meets Rhett. When something sparks between them what happens when a secret could end what hasn't even started. It's a clean slow burn romance it also deals with the power of friendship and heartache. I found it a perfect listen for summer. Thank you to Just Read Tours and the author for the free audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
I listened to the audio book version and it was very enjoyable! The narrator did a nice job and had a pleasant voice. I love audiobooks and listen to many of them and I liked the voice the narrator had.
Lindsay always had dreamed of owning a food truck for basically as far back as she can remember. In order to keep her parents legacy going strong she opens a small bakery. She still is wanting for more, but her small town is offering good profits for her business. She is just nervous that she may not be able to keep it going year round!
Rhett is a songwriter and his family does not support him. He is struggling getting into the music industry and moves back home. He must find a job and the only thing which fits him is being a barista at Lindsay’s bakery. They find family an aspect they can be relate to...
This story was a fun romance. I liked the attraction between the two characters.
I would recommend Sweet Melody to those looking for a light and contemporary book. There is also some family drama involved to which made for a more in depth story.
Lindsay Carmichael has dreamed of owning a food truck for as long as she can remember. She's managed to open a small bakery and keep her parents' legacy going through her tasty treats, but she dreams of more. The small tourist town of Seabrook, Oregon, only offers good profits for part of the year, and as summer approaches Lindsay hopes she can make enough to keep her doors open year-round.
Heading back to his hometown after several unfruitful years in Nashville trying to write a hit country song, Rhett Foster asks his dad for a job in their family's successful restaurant chain. His father sends him to Seabrook to scout the area for potential expansion, and to help fill his time, Rhett decides to take a barista job at Lindsay's bakery.
More of a natural risk taker, Rhett encourages Lindsay when he hears about her food truck dreams. When one becomes available, albeit with a lot of TLC required before it's serviceable again, his certainty emboldens her to go for it, even though it means financial risk. If they can't make it work this summer, she won't only lose the truck, but her bakery and the connection to her deceased parents.
Rhett is horrified when he learns that his father has changed plans and now wants to bring a food truck to Seabrook. With the reputation of his well-established chain, his dad's truck could easily drive Lindsay out of business. How can be break the news to her? Can he talk his dad out of his plans before everything falls apart?
This is a sweet romance but packs a punch with its themes of family, dreams, regrets, and missed opportunities. Lindsay is relatable as a struggling business owner who misses her family, and Rhett struggles to continue pursuing his own dreams even while urging Lindsay forward in hers. I would recommend this for everyone who enjoys something light and fun but also touches on deeper subjects in a hope-giving way.
I received my copy of the audiobook from JustRead Publicity Tours. All opinions in this review are my own.
Sweet Melody is delightful and filled with romance.
Lindsay was still reeling from the destruction of her parents' dream closely followed by their death. Feeling compelled to have her bakery succeed to preserve their legacy, she did all that she could. One problem after another seemed to impede her progress.
Rhett felt rejection from his father ever since his mother died when he was a young boy. He never felt he was good enough and did feel like he was constantly being compared unfavorably with his stepbrother, Adam. Broken, yet determined to win his father's respect and favor, he took on a barista position at Lindsay's bakery.
Rhett's heart struggled to choose between pleasing his father and pursuing his growing attraction to Lindsay. This just sounds wrong but I enjoyed seeing his dilemma and how torn he was! When reading about his feelings of rejection and inadequacy, I felt like I was experiencing them myself!
Lindsay's grief and frustration as things appeared to fall apart around her were equally real. Her devastation when she found out who Rhett was, though she didn't give him a chance to explain, made me sad for her.
While I knew some of the things were going to happen, after all, they really had to, there were surprises along the way and I didn't expect everything to work out just like it did. Rhett's overture to win Lindsay back made me want to cheer!
Sweet Melody was very enjoyable. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys sweet romantic fiction.
I was given a copy of this book. I was not required to give a favorable review nor was any money received for this review. All comments and opinions are my own.
What I Loved: This story is set in a bakery, and I loved how much of the story really surrounded this store. It was fun to read about the relationship between the two characters and how it grew during experiences there!
How I Felt: I love a sweet story, and that's totally what Sweet Melody is! Lindsay owns her bakery and has fallen on some hard times. She's got new competitors to deal with, a barista who can't work due to an injury, and some cruddy reviews to top it off. Her dream of owning her own food truck keeps getting further away with every setback. Then, Rhett shows up with his barista skills, and Lindsay hires him to save the day.
The relationship was definitely a slow-burn. The two characters have personal backgrounds that they struggle with, and it makes them open up hesitantly. Their characters do have some wonderful chemistry, and it was a sweet relationship that you just need to see work out in the end. It's a clean romance, with a feel-good story that's perfect for a summer read by the pool!
I listened to the audio version of this book, and I really enjoyed it! It thought the narration was well-done and drew me into the story!
I was provided an advanced listener's copy of this book for free. I am leaving my review voluntarily.
Travelers Wife 4 Life Book Review📚 Or should I say Audio book review...🤷♀️ Anyway I really enjoyed my first audio book experience. 📚 Sweet Melody by @heidimccahan.author brought me to a small town bakery struggling to survive, amidst some tough trails, many yummy sounding recipes, a dash of romance, and a hint of mystery this story made me smile (which I am sure made people look at me oddly while I was running). I think listening to the audio version enhanced the book as I could focus on painting a picture with the words Heidi used, she is very good at pulling you in and describing a scene like you were in the room with the characters. I really enjoyed it and I am looking forward to reading more from Heidi McCahan🌟⭐🌟⭐
Thanks Heidi McCahan & @justreadtours for introducing me to a new way to imagine stories.
Sincerely, The Travelers Wife
*I volunteered to read this book in return for my honest feedback. The thoughts and opinions expressed within are my own.
Ok, let’s just get this out of the way. If you want to make me a happy reader, then include a couple mentions of my hockey team in your book. Thank you, Heidi McCahan for giving Rhett some Nashville Predators pride.
And while that, ahem sweetened, the story for me, it was just a fun little fact to come across. The heart of Sweet Melody lies in Lindsay’s and Rhett’s challenges and persistence to realize their dreams.
The charming Washington coastal town of Seabrook will have you planning your next vacation while the descriptions of the goodies Lindsay offers at her bakery will have you salivating. The attraction between Rhett and Lindsay is instantaneous and builds from their first meeting and left me anxious for more.
I appreciate the friendship these two form. The way they encourage each other to chase their dreams despite the roadblocks. And even when everything comes to a head, I was cheering the duo on.
Hopefully, readers will get more of Seabrook and this group of friends in future books from McCahan (because I really want to learn more about Cat and Micah!).

First of all, this is a sweet romance novel that I would consider faith-based. The Christian faith is woven into the framework of the entire story, and I couldn't be happier for that. There is not ANYTHING that is inappropriate, so read this and enjoy.
Secondly, this takes place in Washington State! That's my home state and where I currently live. Mentioning a kite festival?? I grew up attending the kite festival at Long Beach, Washington, so this just brought everything back. I'm glad the author loves Washington as much as I do, and I applaud her choice of setting.
As for the story, this is a typical "Hallmark movie" romance (I think Hallmark could adapt this to a movie in a virtual heartbeat!), but that didn't reduce my enjoyment of it. The characters were cleverly and realistically developed., and while there were no major surprises in the story, it was well-executed on every level. If you love old-time romance with food trucks, bakeries, and country music, this is for you!
I always enjoy reading a clean contemporary romance about someone following their passion and Sweet Melody has two characters learning to follow their dreams! This book read like a comforting Hallmark movie. There is a meet-cute with instant attraction, hidden details, determination, and bumps along the way, and of course a sweet romance.
As this is a Christian romance, there were some moments mentioning God and faith. When religion came up in the book, I was caught off guard. I often tend to think this when reading a Christian romance, so maybe I haven't read enough in the category to fully appreciate the mentions. For anyone who isn't religious, don't let the fact that this is a Christian romance discourage you from reading this book as it is a minor aspect, almost a second thought, to the storyline.
I listened to the audiobook. Narrators can make or break listening to a book for me and I definitely have some favorites. This author spoke clearly with nice diction, was easy to listen to but isn't a person I would seek out for more books she narrated.
Thank you JustReads for my free audiobook in exchange for my honest review.
It doesn’t get much sweeter than Sweet Melody! This is a fun story with charming characters that make me smile.
Having a bakery backdrop gives it even more points. I love stories with bakeries, diners, and cafes. Perhaps because I love visiting these places in real-life as well. This bakery gives the story depth and a sense of home.
Seabrook is just as charming as its townsfolk. I’d be happy to be a part of this coastal town, and after finishing the story, I feel as if I’ve been there.
The characters are what I enjoy the most, though. Lyndsay and Rhett carry just the right blend of tension and attraction. They share a delightful romance that still has me smiling.
The audio version of this book is great. Erin Parker, the narrator, modifies her voice well while switching between women, men, and children. She portrays their emotions nicely and gives each character their own unique flavor.
Audio Length: 6 hours and 59 minutes Print length: 244
The story was cute and sweet. It's set in a small coastal town of Seabrook in Washington. I love that it is a real town. Lindsay owns a bakery but she needs help. In comes, Rhett who seems to be the answer to her prayers until secrets come out. I enjoyed watching their relationship grow and change. Both were people I'd like to be friends with. I liked most of the characters in this book. I listened to part of this book as an audiobook. It was easy to bounce back and forth between audio and ebook. The narrator did a wonderful job creating memorable characters. Each person had a distinct voice. Also, I thought her voice was well suited and not breathy when she talked.
I recommend this book to my family and friends.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the publisher. I also purchased a copy for myself. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
Sometimes a person just has to take a break and either read or listen to a sweet romance. Something not to difficult, where the characters have problems but still get their happy ending. Sweet Melody was that for me. I've read quite a bit of mystery/suspense/historical lately so Heidi McCahan's contemporary romance was the break I needed.
I really liked Lindsay, though how she could be nice even to people who were very unpleasant to her was more than I could ever do. I liked Rhett as well, but I still can't figure out why he didn't bail over the side of the family business when he figured out how much it would hurt Lindsay and her business. Can you tell that I kinda got caught up in all of the Hallmark-like romance and family drama?
I listened to the audiobook version of Sweet Melody and I enjoyed it. The narration was excellent. The sound and production quality seemed to be OK. All in all it was a good listening experience and a great introduction for me to Heidi McCahan's writing.
(I received a copy of this book from the author. All opinions are entirely my own.)
Sweet Melody was a really cute summer romance. Lindsay is a bakery shop owner in a small tourist town, who wants to open a food truck to expand her business. Enter Rhett, country song writer yet to make it big, who heads home to join the family business. But can they work together or will his secret destroy everything she has?
This is a clean Christian romance that almost precisely followed the typical movie formula that you’ll find on a certain cable network in December, set over summer rather than the Christmas holiday. But that’s not a bad thing... I knew what to expect and still enjoyed watching it play out.
I really enjoyed the audio presentation of this book. The narration was easy to listen to and the story was fun and easy to follow.
Thank you to the publisher Thomas Nelson for a free copy of the audiobook in exchange for my honest review.
Sweet Melody is a delightful story about two adults that come together with baggage of their own and push through to find each other. Lindsey is a small bakery owner that is fighting to make a name for herself in a small town. Rhet is a talented musician that is trying to make a way in music. Bonding over baked goods and difficult past, these two work together to create something sweet.
I give this novel a 3.5 star rating, which is not a bad rating at all. This was a good read, that I listened to on audiobook. I enjoyed the narrator's voice. I loved how this story showed Lindsey continuing to preserver to continue the legacy of her parents. She hit many bumps along the way, but still pushed. We also saw the struggles of grief, disappointment, and anger between Rhet and his father. I would love to see this turn into a series and see those characters and others lives play out. I'd love to dig into their lives and emotions. This is a Christian romance novel, so I love the fact that it is clean, I could definitely listen with the kiddos in the car.
Thank you JustRead Tours and Heidi McCahan for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
While I can’t say Sweet Melody grabbed me from the beginning, it certainly drew me in slowly, like a fish on a hook, especially after Rhett was introduced. My biggest question was, will Rhett ever finish writing his song? Lindsay is a likable character, who thinks too much and talks too much, but has a big heart and some crazy dreams. When she and Rhett meet, their interactions start out as hilarious and quickly turn into something more serious.
The plot of Sweet Melody is interesting enough, with Rhett scouting out Seabrook for his father, and Lindsay trying to not go bankrupt with her coffee shop. And while Rhett being there might have saved her business at first, he has all the potential to destroy it as well. It was interesting reading Rhett’s struggle between family duty and wanting to help Lindsay.
The narrator’s voice, I think, was quite suited for the book. Her gentle alto flavored with a hint of south-western accent gave the audiobook just the right feel it needed.
Overall, Sweet Melody is a fun and enchanting tale, perfect for fans of Katherine Reay and Jessica Kate.
Lindsay and Rhett feature in this sweet contemporary romance set in the northwest in a story of what you don't know can hurt you. Both main characters are wondering what's next for them, hoping to find a way forward in an uncertain future. Through a turn of events, Rhett ends up working for Lindsay but isn't completely honest with her.
While they both fight their attraction but are still pulled together, they come to terms with their pasts and have to learn to let go of the past in order to find the future. Along the way, they ask questions about faith and love.
An enjoyable quick read, though I listened to the audiobook version. Some comedic moments and good quotes.
I received a complimentary copy of the audiobook. I was not required to post a positive review. All opinions are my own.
A sweet book that will make you drool throughout with a coastal backdrop as the setting. As I was reading this book, I felt that the author was talking directly to me for I felt just like Rhett did. It all came slamming back to me. I felt like Rhett trying to please his dad all his life. But no matter what he did it was never enough. Readers this was what I went through my whole entire life with my dad. But nothing I did wasn't enough. Years later after mom passed away, I found out it was because I was adopted. His whole family treated me like that. After mom died he met and married someone else and boy I sure didn't like her one little bit. I ended up becoming the unwanted red headed step child. After my husband and I went back to visit him with our son he told us not to ever come back and that my son wasn't his grandchild. But I found out he adopted my stepmother grandchild. I was hurt and angry. Reading this book brought those memories slamming back. I have forgiven him. I needed to. It's what Jesus would do.After I did I had some sort of peace and mind. I only wished that he knows. We need to do these things while our parents are still living. Not after they're gone. I loved this book too for the many quotes and messages. Here's one for example: We carry big dreams in our hearts for a reason. Sometimes we're tempted give up and try to wrestle circumstances into submission, especially when it looks like things aren't headed in the right direction but we each. have our own gifts. I believe that we're supposed to use them for a purpose The way God intended. For if you don't He can take them away just as easily as He gave them. I'm fortunate that He left at least something or two somethings that I still can do. I'm am extremely grateful until all eternity. I can sympathize with Lindsay. She has been through too many hurts just like I have. Unlike Lindsay I am unhappy with where I live. I mean, I like small towns just not this one. Too many family members. I want to go somewhere special somewhere where no one knows us and start over. But we will stay here for now until God calls me for another adventure. Maybe my family and I can come for a visit to this small town someday. I love to travel and visit places I've never been. I strongly recommend this book. Maybe you've been through mine and Rhetts situation in your life along the way. Have past hurts that need forgiven. Talk to the Lord my reader friends. He will point you the way. Forgive and love while that person is still there. You won't regret it. My thanks to Prism Tours and the author who provided me a copy of this book. This is a sweet romance that starts out as employer/employee, builds into friendship and finally blossoms into romance. Lindsay is hard-working and focused on fulfilling her dreams. Rhett is trying to get over the loss of a dream and figure out what comes next. The blending of these characters suits this story so well.
Rhett's family is unpleasant, but eventually they try to do the right thing. Lindsay is a bit trusting, but doesn't have many options. They both experience a lot of growth and I enjoyed seeing how they blended their goals.
This a charming beach town romance that makes you want to eat a donut while enjoying the beautiful scenery. Thank you for my gifted copy in exchange for an honest review.
I’m relatively new to Heidi McCahan and her novels, but after reading Sweet Melody I think I need to go on a reading binge! Sweet Melody is an excellent contemporary romance that I enjoyed from start to end. It reminded me of the very best Hallmark films — the ones where the storyline is highly engaging, the chemistry between the hero and heroine is fierce and palpable from their first meeting, the kisses are sweet and swoon-worthy, and the ending is so satisfying you just can’t help but sigh. Sweet Melody is all this and more!
Life is hard. Sometimes life hurts us and leaves us feeling as if we have a giant gaping hole right in the center of our chests. As humans, our natural inclination is to fill these voids with what we think are good things: we eat our feelings, we hang out with our “fun” friends, we start a new romantic relationship, or we escape into fun adventures that take us from our usual day to day. While joyful for a moment, the joy we feel from these worldly things is fleeting, and often leaves us feeling a little sadder and a little more empty inside. Life has definitely beaten up both Lindsay and Rhett. They’ve both been searching to fill their voids for quite some time, and both believe they have the answers to making their lives better. But things just keep falling apart. What is going on? When will they catch their breaks? Eventually, both Lindsay and Rhett realize that nothing worldly will ever fully fill the voids in their hearts. Only calling upon Jesus as their Lord and Savior will allow their hurt places to heal and true joy and peace to reign. I think this is a wonderful reminder for all of us readers, especially in this crazy day and age.

I purchased an eBook copy of this book from Amazon.com on August 31, 2019, in order to review. In no way has this influenced my review. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.
I read the audiobook version of this book and enjoyed it. I was not, however, a fan of the narrator, but it did not take away from the written potion of the book. This is a feel good story about a girl who questions her faith & confidence in herself to make it on her own in the business world. Along the way she meets someone knew who helps gain her footing all the while her livelihood is tested. It's a sweet and cute romance. It also includes yummy side notes about her bakery that will have you craving sweets.
I received a copy of this audiobook from Just Read Tours & author for review. All opinions above are strictly my own.
3.5 I enjoyed this story about a determined young woman who's had her heart broken once and the songwriter who feels he can never make his dad proud. I liked Lindsay's perseverance but did feel like she bit off more than she could chew with buying the food truck. There was quite a bit of shop talk as she tried out different recipes and worried about her business failing. She was also angry at the family who had ruined her parents' business and was pretty bitter toward them. Rhett sounded like a good guy who just needed a break but who should have been honest with her sooner. He struggled to forgive his dad for how he'd been treated. He also wasn't sure if he should give up songwriting, which was his passion, to work for his dad's business. Lindsay's best friend was a strong Christian and a good witness to Lindsay about who God is. Neither Lindsay nor Rhett were Christians. There was some sweet romance. There's also another couple who are total opposites that seemed to be interested in each other and I hope the next book is about them! I thought the narrator did a good job but I definitely had to listen to it at at least one and a half speed. I would recommend this story if you like romance, especially centered around coffee and food!
I received a free audiobook download of this book from the author. I was not compensated for this review. All opinions are my own.
