Sara Bourgeois is a Midwesterner through and through. She spends her time writing, reading, herding cats, and standing in her driveway during tornado warnings. (You can't see them from the basement.)
I don't need to finish to rate. As I type this, I am in the middle of chapter four of eight. I am still going to continue reading to the end of the series because I am into this world and the characters, but this book is so terrible and clearly written fast without care to editing or world-building that I desire to rate it now. If it wasn't for Familiar Kitten Mysteries and the few decent books so far in Wicked Witches of Coventry, I wouldn't be giving this story the time of day. Seriously. If this was the first book, I would be done by this point and wishing I hadn't wasted money.
I would go into details, but that would be long and winded. My notes can be found under the Wicked Witches of Coventry: The Complete Series. I am rating each book individually as I read.
At the end of the last book, Meri convinces Brighton she has a far more important job to do. So, Brighton and Remy set their wedding date.
It's the Winter Solstice, a perfect time for a witches wedding. Of course, Brighton is a nervous bride, but really, she shouldn't be. Annika, her maid of honor is beautiful in red satin and Meri looks very handsome in his blue bow tie and just as snarky as ever.
Amelda joins them as they exit the back door, and Brighton is disappointed that her mother and grandmother didn't show, even though they promised to be there. As she looks to the tree line, Brighton sees her Aunt Maude's spirit, and wishes she could stay for the whole wedding. Amelda hears her and the entire coven joins to give Maude the strength to witness the marriage.
The day is perfect, well almost. It appears someone tries to kill off the entire Skeenbauer Coven, but only Aunt Coraline succumbs to the poison, thanks to Remy and Brighton's quick thinking!
Six months later and neither the witches nor human law enforcement have solved the crime of trying to wipe out the entire Skeenbauer Coven.
Amelda is traveling trying to find the witch who betrayed them, and witches are only eating things they prepare themselves, there are no gatherings or festivals either.
Remy notices Brighton seems a bit grumpy and when he mentions it her angry response surprises both him and Meri. This before she runs to bathroom and gets sick. It's Meri who puts her mind on the right track to realize what's wrong with her, but she insists on Remy going for a pregnancy test to be sure. While she waits she calls Annika and tells her she should come over. She arrives with Gunner just before Remy returns. She has a bit of a surprise herself, seems they got married, but they are planning to do a full wedding thing later.
Test confirms Brighton is pregnant and now more than ever she's determined to find whoever poisoned the Coven at her wedding. There's far more at stake now and she will protect her child at all costs.
It takes some doing but Brighton goes back to the beginning and begins her own investigation. It takes less time than I thought for her to solve at least part of it and this book fast forwards as well.
Only two more books left in this series, and I can start the Familiar Kitten Mysteries which is more of Meri.
Well, Brighton finally has her deepest wish, she is pregnant. Her best friend eloped and it seems celebrations are due all around. That is until a witch dies of poison and it renews the threat to her baby, that was never solved. Brighton goes on the offensive as she tries to eliminate the risk.
This charming paranormal cozy mystery is book nine in the Wicked Witches of Coventry series. Set in a small town, this cozy is filled with interesting and quirky characters that draw you into the story and engage you until the end. Like the others in this series, the mystery is full of surprises, twists danger and suspense. This mystery was fun to read as it furthered along the love story between Brighton and Remy. I can hardly wait to read the next in the series.
This book was kinda of annoying. For Brighton to wait 6 months after the murder to try and solve it was just weird. Then for the murder to only become relevant in her mind now that she was pregnant constantly being like if I don't solve this then my baby is at risk. You mean like only taking Meri along to confront suspects, dumb. In the last book Remy was part of the investigation basically every step of the way, but in this one with Brighton being supposedly pregnant with the all important child he's basically no where around, seriously 😒!? It seemed to me like throwing a pregnancy in the mix removed all common sense. Not one of the better books in this series.
Brighton is pregnant and that is of major importance due to a prophecy about her child being special. Meanwhile a woman dies from a magical potion. The murders keep piling up including one involving poisoned cupcakes.
One of the murdered witches appears as a ghost to Brighton. The question becomes how much can Brighton be involved in investigating these murders while she's pregnant and everyone wants to make sure she stays well and unharmed?
Also, babies are supposed to wait nine months until they are born, aren't they?
Another good book in the series and new complications for Brighton.
I did guess the culprit. And the consequence to them was interesting! The title is interesting. So often the punny titles on cozy mysteries seem to have nothing to do with the story line. But jumping over a broom is a traditional wedding act in some cultures, so it connected—even if they didn’t actually do that at their witch wedding.
This one had a lot of time jumping, I thought this one was gonna be mainly about the wedding but that ended up being such a small part of the plot… Brighton finds out she is pregnant and for someone Who thought she could never have a baby, And wants to protect it at all cost she is sure putting herself in a lot of danger.
This was my last book for 2021 and if it wasn't for the fact that I have the whole series, I wouldn't be continuing it, but now I want to find out who's after Brighton & Remy so I have to read the next one.
Faithful readers have waited for the wedding of Brighton and Remy and will love the romance. However, when a family member dies and others are poisoned, they must work together to find the culprit. There are new characters that add to the fun and drama.
I posted this review after reading this title as part of the series boxed set.
Yes, a wedding and a dead person, that's what happens in Coventry. Of course, Brighton has to do the research on who dunit! Interesting turn of events.
What is up with the pacing in these books? We float along then it’s like the author hits a word-limit wall and chapters worth of action just spills out in two or three pages.
I love the group of witches in Coventry. Brighton is really finding her place and becoming accepted, but someone wants her dead! Thank goodness for Meri! Can't wait to read the next book in this series!
Brighton and Remy are finally getting married! Meri is sporting his fancy blue bow tie and is quite handsome – and knows it. The wedding was beautiful, but at the reception, there was a commotion outside. A dark sickness seemed to spread out and everyone was dropping to the ground. Coraline was already dead in the kitchen, another witch apparently having poisoned the food with a toxin that only affected witches.
Remy and Brighton, both fighting the effects and becoming sicker, knew they had to hurry and heal each other so they could help the others before it was too late. Brighton sent Meri among the human guests to get them to leave since, if the magic shield protecting Coventry works, they would wake up the next day thinking they had a good time and went home when they got sleepy. As the witches were revived, they went on to help others and the rest were saved. With Meri assisting Amelda with magic, they confirmed this was done by a witch and identified what it was. Because Gunner knew about the witches, the police were called in, but the murder was still unsolved.
Who did this terrible thing? Why? And can Brighton track down the culprit before something else happens?
As always, there are so many surprising things going on in this book! The characters are awesome and many are familiar to the reader by now. You’ll love that the action never stops! Will Brighton save the day again? Don’t miss this exciting book!
Brighton and Remy finally get married, but it wouldn’t be Coventry without a murder. Of course Brighton, with Merri right beside her, has to try to solve the mystery and protect her family.
It's finally Brighton's wedding day. Everything is perfect. All the Skeenbauer aunts are there as well as Annika & her human boy Gunner who happens to be the Sheriff. But catastrophe strikes the witches, including Remy's grandmother,m Amelda af the reception. But there is one witch that doesn't survive As Remy & Brighton realize that someone used magic to kill, someone close by. Soon, as the Skeenbauer coven work to find the culprit, Brighton finds out she's pregnant the same day Annika tells her that she & Gunner have eloped. Now Brighton has to find out who wants to kill her & her baby despite the coven determined ti protect her. I highly recommend starting at the beginning of the series. Still this is a good story and may prompt you to discover more a bout the Witches of Coventry
