4.0/4.5 stars. This book was climate change issues written in a very simple and easily understandable way, which I personally loved. I also liked how this book opens up conversations between parents and children about climate change. I even learned a couple of new things and will definitely be paying attention to my action in the future.
This is a funny and engaging book aimed at older primary school age children who want to learn more about climate change and the ways in which we all can help our planet. Very accessible, engaging and full of facts, this book is a great resource for all young people who might want to learn something about this important subject. There are facts, figures (in manageable chunks) and also handy ideas for adults in children to implement - not only at home but also at school. Many of them requires a child to take the initiative - a great way in which they can become more engaged in taking taking the responsibility for our future. Perhaps some of the ideas are aimed at older ages, but younger ones will also find things to do here. The book is divided into a bite sized chunks and has funny illustrations - although my only criticism would be the lack of colour here (presumably due to the subject matter - it fits with the book's message) - however I am not sure if children wouldn't have find it more engaging if a little colour was added. All together - a very current and topical book. I received a free ARC of this book for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
Offering up 50 ways to help cool the climate, this book offers up clear text, engaging illustrations and even a meter on each topic describing its impact, difficulty and cost.
This is a great book for 5 - 6 graders. It's more in depth than a picture book for younger readers yet not an academic analysis that would be less engaging for the same age range. Highly recommend.
This does a real good job of explaining why it's so very important to reduce & reuse, as opposed to just recycling. It's easily readable & a good resource for youth & adults too, offering even small ways that can make a difference. I'd recommend it to everyone, young & older!
This Book Will (Help) Cool the Climate is an informative book focusing on how to help stop climate change. The style was very welcoming and made me feel like I was talking to the author! Isabel Thomas has made a major impact with this book by helping educate children about the negative effects of climate change. Instead of scaring them, they show ways to stop it. I hadn’t read any of the other books that Isabel Thomas had written (Like: Hello Design, Black Foods, Why Do We Sleep, etc), so I wasn’t familiar with her style. This book hasn’t won anything but was nominated for Green Earth Award in 2022 and was published 2 years before in 2020. The main message was encouraging kids (and adults) to take action. I’d recommend this 100% because it's so informational and educational for any age group but 7-14 year olds would have more interest and would learn a ton. Isabel has written multiple books mainly informational and aimed for younger kids. 5 Key Chapters: 17: Stop Recycling Shows how Recycling is ineffective and shows other R’s briefly. 19: Make Your Clothes Immortal Shows the effect of clothes and ways to fix stains, holes, and zippers. 43: Fill Your Home with Snakes Shows how to stop drafts without using energy and saving money. 44: March For the Planet Show you how to march for the planet 50: Green, Sleep, Repeat Summarizing the whole book and how to accomplish the tips.
This book was very life changing because it gave me a real life view and told the brutal truth. This has made me more aware of the climate and my choices. It provided me with a completely new view and led to major changes in my opinion and how this needs to be prioritized. I gained a better understanding of the climate and it gave me more knowledge on how to stop climate change and what causes it. Overall I really suggest this book and hope you enjoy it! This book is 347 words and meets my grade level including this.
Tagged "Swedish" since Greta Thunberg is mentioned a VERY LOT (for good reason!). Not tagging other nationalities since they get barely passing mentions, and I'd sooner not go back and track down every single one I have as a shelf.
This is a very well-put-together book on things even younger readers can do to help save our planet from turning into a dead ball of rock (at the pace we're going)! Unfortunately, most days it feels like:
Even so, doing something is better than nothing, and even if you were to do only one thing in this book, that's better than not doing any of the things! I have even been doing some by accident: procrastinating on buying new clothes because I just hate (work) clothes, putting off buying things the instant I see them and instead waiting to see if I still want them a few days later, repairing things if I can rather than struggle to find a replacement...
...putting all my finished books in free libraries :D
Definitely a great read for young (and old!) readers looking for actionable ways to do better and feel better about helping the Earth!
🌍 HAPPY EARTH DAY!!! 🌍 . . . I found this book at indie bookstore @bbgbbooks in Richmond, VA and I love the format. Each of the 50 ways to cut pollution is presented in terms of the difficulty, cost, impact, and what is saved (wildlife, electricity, waste, water, etc). Many of these you’ve heard before, but they are presented in new ways. You’ll learn how to propagate a tree, why peeing on your compost helps your plants, and how shorter, cooler showers can make a huge difference (heating water is a major energy suck). There are ideas for how kids can help green their school, encourage people to stop idling their car, and stop the emphasis on recycling (reduce and reuse matter much more! #breakfreefromplastic). Overall it’s a very informative, quick, entertaining read on a very important topic. . . . I think my favorite section was on how to start an eco-library and lend out toys, costumes, and party gear! It got me thinking of exciting ways to incorporate our library!! . . . #middleschoollibrarian #middleschoollibrary #library #librarian #futurereadylibs #iteachlibrary #bookstagrammer #bookstagram #librariesofinstagram #librariansofinstagram #librariesfollowlibraries #librarylife #librarianlife #schoollibrarian #middlegrade #middlegradebooks #iteach #librarylove #booksbooksbooks #amreading #bibliophile #schoollibrariansrock #bookreview #bookrecommendation #igreads #malibrary #msla #mediaspecialist
This title perhaps first published inEngland or written by an English has a few terms and ideas that are unique to England. This title contains 50 ways/ideas to help cool our planet. Written as a children’s title I am not sure it will have great a appeal to that audience.
This book is aimed at teenagers and students which is really cool, but anyone can apply (most of) the information and suggestions within. Some of the asks are a little extreme (like saving your pee in a jar for a month to fertilize your yard and not adopting a pet because of their carbon footprint), but there are plenty of other perfectly reasonable suggestions that can help the planet. I also appreciated the later section about not obsessing over being perfect when it comes to climate action. In my opinion, the key to getting people on board with fighting climate change is to keep things accessible and realistic. Worth the read and you can pick out for yourself which tasks you can realistically apply to your own life.
