This cover is one of the most beautiful I've seen and luckily the art inside lives up to it. This is a story based on Norse mythology and ultimately one about all forms of love. I wish the romance had more growth on page, but ultimately it was still very sweet.
5 ⭐️ I loved the story and artwork in Wolf Pack by Billy Balibally! With shifters, a forced marriage, lots of alpha-tension, drama and the cutest pups you'll ever see, this was a win for me!
This manga is nothing like I thought it would be. I thought I would get more of an emotional in-depth relationship. But I didn’t. And it was nowhere nearest spicy as I thought I was going to be, but the artwork was beautiful and the cast was full of green flags, which I loved. But like I said nothing like I thought was gonna be and they weren’t as death as I would have liked
The art is so gorgeous it made me push the rating up despite this being a pretty simple and straight to the point story, the plot is so condensed it cannot help but suffer over all and feel…if not rushed at least underdeveloped Still it was effective and heartwarming with focus on multiple characters that allowed the cast to feel realized So! A more than positive rating
I became a fan of Billy Balibally when I first read FANGS, and I knew that the art style and storytelling were right up my alley. Wolf Pack is no different.
This was a surprisingly romantic story, based on the mythology of wolves, specifically Norwegian myths. There are two different wolf packs, led by the alphas Garm and Hati, the latter of whom has a twin sister, Skoll, also an alpha. Garm is supposed to marry Skoll, to unite their packs. Garm's pack live on the mountain and Skoll's on the lake, right beside the mountain, so their marriage will not only merge packs but territory. Only, we begin the story with Skoll having died two days prior to the arranged marriage and Hati offering to take her place as bride. What Hati doesn't realise is that Garm is much happier with the switch than he would have been had he married Skoll. :)
I loved how clueless Hati was and how Garm didn't really know what he was doing, just going by instinct, but that he also didn't know how to be even more obvious so that Hati would understand. The story definitely had a bi-awakening theme, which was explored well.
I've read a lot of Alpha x Alpha BL and yaoi, but most of them are strongly focused on sex, whereas this is an upper teen novel and I honestly think that was the best move. It let the story be more emotional and plot based than sex-focused. There was a little bit of action/adventure and whole lot of underlying, simmering romance between Garm and Hati that was the perfect blend of two strangers coming together with a common aim while leaving themselves open to being mates.
As expected of Billy, the art was stunning!
I also really loved the author's note at the end, explaining the origin of the story and how it connected to real mythology.
I was hoping for more when I picked up Wolf Pack, especially with that stunning cover. The premise was definitely intriguing, and I was ready to dive into what promised to be an opposites-attract romance. What I expected was a slow build-up, with Garm and Hati adjusting to one another, especially since Hati is marrying Garm after his sister's tragic death just two days before her wedding. Hati is stepping in for her.
From the start, we see the contrasting personalities between Garm and Hati, and to top it off, they're both alphas. Things quickly spiral into danger, and after the dust settles, we finally start to see how utterly adorable Garm is. From the beginning, he accepts the marriage with Hati without hesitation, becoming protective and considerate of her. Then, bam—Garm turns on the charm, and it's clear that he's deeply connected to Hati. The only challenge is Hati coming to terms with her own feelings.
However, there wasn’t quite enough time from the wedding to that point of emotional development for me to fully invest in their connection. Still, I really enjoyed the artwork. The little pups were absolutely adorable, and I have to say, the drawings of Garm were perfection. Every page with a close-up of those piercing eyes had me captivated. The artist truly captured the essence of Garm as a true alpha. I also adored the drawing of Skoll—so beautiful.
I was browsing Hoopla and this title caught my eye — and the moment I saw it was Ballibally-sensei, I checked it out ASAPPP! Ballibally’s works are so sensual and sexy and gorgeous and breathtaking, but come from a place deep in the heart, too. Wolf Pack is about clinging to love and partnership, even if it’s against the grain of tradition. And the art — I swear, “breathtaking” doesn’t do it justice. It’s jaw-dropping. I need to buy a physical copy of this ASAP because reading it on a smartphone isn’t the treatment such masterful art deserves.
I’m so happy this exists (both because it’s utterly gorgeous, and to tide me over while waiting for FANGS volume 4 ☺️). Ballibally-sensei, you are a master pro. And those wolf puppies were SO GODDAMN CUTE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Considering what I know this mangaka is able to write…this was incredibly mid.
The pacing of this was completely off because it’s all condensed into one volume. We neither get enough of the complexities between the fenrir and humans nor of the relationship between Gar and Hati.
The artwork, of course, is gorgeous. The cover alone is stunning! However, the character design was terrible. There was a scene where literally members of the same pack were talking, and if it wasn’t for the different scar placement, they all looked exactly the same. There definitely should have been more variety in the character design.
Anyway! At least we’ll be blessed by a new Fangs volume soon enough!
I rather enjoy BL manga that delves into the fantastical and mythical. There is a certain sense of Indigenous mythology here that is enchanting yet relatable in its show of humanity (or at least the traits we might associate with beneficent humanity). The openness expressed by these "werewolves" (to name them crudely) is admirable, and perhaps further shows the power of being open-minded about love as well as tradition as it relates to culture and its rituals.
One things that's bothering me. Why do the children look like amigurumi about to puke and the adults are hot af, looking like they're gonna kill you every second. I can only imagine how hard it is to grow up looking like a cuddly, fluffy baby and then to became this kind of angry and depressed and sexy looking adult. Idk, why not stay fluffy and cute?
I would have spent multiple volumes in this world, it’s baffling to me that this is a one shot. Due to that there’s a quick, insta-love vibe in the air. I enjoyed the style and the pining alpha an incredible amount and were this longer, it would have been a 4* for sure
CNs for illegal hunters, their guns and wounds/assault caused by them
This did not give what I wanted it to give. I think the potential was there, but there wasn't enough build up to really feel their love and desperation for each other. It just felt like there was a chapter or two missing. I think this could've been great if it was longer.
Anyway I'm just happy to have another Billy Balibally English release. The art was still amazing per usual.
Well damn-this was some story. I was not happy when a friend recommended this book and I saw it was OT, that does not even come close to the XXX rated books I love so much. However, this book was well worth it. The story was incredible, the art was beautiful, and the ties into mythology were brilliant. I’m going to need a sequel- ASAP.
Simple story, stellar designs and panels. I loved it! It's a fairly easy tale to follow along. The book is PG-13, older teen. Billy Balibally always pulls through with whatever stand-alone or series. This manga mostly featured the art with fewer captions and dialogue. Overall I liked it and recommend it.
3.5. I LOVE the art. It's so beautiful! 😍 The little wolfies are adorable!!! The story itself, though, was a bit confusing at times, and Idk that I truly felt the bond they built. It's short and to the point, which is great, but I feel like it was trying to do a lot at once and I got lost along the way. I'm so glad they're all happy at the end though.
Someone needs to take manga as a genre away from me! Clearly! The art in this was beautiful. Though the plot felt slightly underdeveloped, the world building was interesting and the story and its tropes were satisfying. There were also some profoundly sweet moments. I love gay werewolves (not actually werewolves, but still)
