If you’re counting in vampire years, I’m actually two-hundred and eight, and if living that long has taught me anything, it’s that nothing lasts forever. And that’s been fine. It’s… whatever. I’ve never wanted anything that long, anyway, which is why I’ve never taken a mate, but that all changed when I met Declan Byrne.
He’s young, handsome, and he doesn’t do what I tell him to. He smells like cinnamon and has eyes that remind me of the daytime sky. Every kiss we share feels like home, and no touch lasts long enough.
I need him to be mine.
And for the briefest moment he is, and life is perfect… and then it isn’t. Rogue vampires threaten to pull us apart, and complicated politics are painful reminders that a world exists beyond our privacy of our bedroom.
But if anyone thinks they can keep me away from Declan, they have another thing coming. My mate and I have a thousand lifetimes to live, and we’re just getting started.
With over two dozen published romances to her name, Kate Hawthorne has built a recognizable brand around telling emotional stories that pack a figurative (and sometimes literal) punch.
Existing on a steady diet of wine and coffee, Kate spends her days dreaming up angsty stories full of heat, kink, and heart. Kate now lives in Louisville, where she writes romance, reads romance, and hides from the humidity.
That felt too much like Ezra got the short straw more than anything to me. What I saw was him being repeatedly told to do things against his wishes and him ending up doing it and being forced to be okay with it. I expected different from at least Ezra but that's where he got the most hurt from. And honestly there wasn't one person in there who has ever heard of unconditional love apparently. This all just left a strong feeling of dislike with me with every word I read.😕
4.5 stars for me. I love that Kate Hawthorne is writing some kinky, broody, badass vampires!
Ezra has been a vampire for over 200 years, but has remained distant from the role he needs to play in his vampire family. He's given an ultimatum - find a mate ASAP, or remove himself from the family. He finds Declan, a young human who suddenly gives Ezra a reason for living and being a vampire. But someone else is out there, looking to take over their town and cause trouble for Ezra and his family.
I really loved Ezra and Declan together. I also enjoyed the build up to the main conflict, and although I honestly didn't care for I truly loved Ezra and Declan together. They were crazy sexy but also romantic - seeing galaxies, seeing redwoods, I love all their plans! Can't wait or the next two books in this series!
Fair warning for folks - There are some seriously sexy vampire things going on in here. These are vampires that enjoy their blood, in all sorts of places and in all sorts of uses. If you're super squeamish about that, you might want to skim some parts.
Vampires are completely hit or miss for me and this one was definitely a hit. I absolutely loved broody vampire Ezra and thought Declan and his desperate to be loved ways were perfect for him. Together they were completely in love (I love a good soulmates story) and so kinky and steamy together. There was a good amount of suspense and drama too so I was constantly on the edge of my seat waiting for how it would all turn out. I really really hope Hawthorne writes more in this universe! This was also my first time listening to a book narrates by Christopher Rourke and it was absolutely amazing. I hope to see his work more in the future.
A Thousand Lifetimes is a gritty, intense vampire story that I really enjoyed. The book has a darker tone than many of the author’s other works I have read, and I think it really fits well with the story. Ezra and Declan are all claiming and biting and rough sex with lots of blood everywhere. The vampire lore is a little more dark and twisted than a lot of stories I have read. As an example, vampires are turned by either a single maker or a pair, both happening during sex. So while Ezra thinks of his two makers as his parents, his brother (who was turned by just their father), has an occasional sexual relationship with Ezra’s dad. The characters respond to threats with violence and without much remorse. And I have to say, I was really all here for it. I am not always a fan of darker stories, but Hawthorne does a great job here and the tone really compliments the book and kept me very engaged from the start.
I hated this book. Ezra was a complete creep and listening to him whine and complain wore me out. The second half was even worse and I spent most of it scanning just to get it over with. I admit I’m not a big fan of vampire books, but I just hated this story.
Eh. I’m always down for a vampire story. However, this one packed some proper editing. As much so it got a chore correcting spelling and grammar issues in my head. And that does not make a fun read.
“I don’t think there is anything better than a good vampire story...other than BDSM...oh, OH WAIT! Is this a vampire story by Hawthorne...ohhh, yasss blood play” - a conversation I had with myself (true story)
So, you can see where this story is going to go. However, as an extra treat and a serious guilty pleasure of mine, we get a side of syrupy soulmates! *instant puddle of goo* Oh how I love instant connections as if fate and the laws of the universe conspired to get two hot males in the same room together forever.
But real talk, I absolutely adored Declan and Ezra - Between the perpetual angst of a 23-year-old vampire (glad to see things don’t change with guys at that age *smirk*) to the ease at which Declan slides into his role as Ezra’s mate, they perfectly balance each other. Honestly, I think my favorite part was Declan and how much he just enjoyed becoming a vampire with Ezra. It was fun to see a soulmate not absolutely go ape sh** over this fate and instead just roll with the punches.
Plus, the sex...man, THE SEX! After being resigned to his fate as a lonely vampire, and never wanting someone else to go through what he did, Ezra definitely enjoys his new mate. I guess this is where I should warn you, there’s blood and a lot of it but in the best of ways.
Still not sure how this is Hawthorne’s first foray into paranormal, but if she keeps this up, I can’t wait till what delicious and nasty things can come out her mind. However, this doesn’t stop me from wanting about FIVE more books in this universe (stares at the author). Past all the glorious blood play, schmoopy vampires, and a cast of hilarious and equally unsettled family members, I feel like Hawthorne set up this amazing universe and Ezra and Declan were just a small sip of what can crawl out of its dark depths. There are rogue vampires, vampire governments that have been upturned, and an era of change coming. I really can’t wait to see if more books spawn out of this (still staring at the author) because there are so many more stories that can be told with these amazing characters, especially the family.
So 5/5- This was a fan-f***king-tastic way to start off the Halloween season!
Very melancholic, but they're vampires, so I guess it comes with the territory. I really like that wasn't a big conflict, it felt refreshing. Unfortunately I started to lose interest once the main characters had gotten together.
I didn't feel like the turning lore made a lot of sense which made it hard for me to get invested in the vampire politics part of the plot. I liked the relationship in this book and there were some interesting lore things, like the mental bond, but in general I just felt a bit disconnected and not that emotionally invested.
I listened to the Audio version of the book . I really enjoyed the narration. Ezra was such a moody vampire who is required to find a mate . Declan was the “mate” of Ezra’s dreams. Their relationship is interesting and full of lust. The story was overall entertaining but not my favorite Kate Hawthorne book.
This was a fun light mm vampire read. Declan was a little unbelievable but I liked Ezra's snarkiness. The romance happened a little too quickly and I would've preferred more world building but if a sequel comes out, I will read it. 3.5 stars
DNF’d at 53% I really tried but it felt too rushed and I just couldn`t connect with the characters and their almost instant personality (jump in) development. I really lost all interest in about 35% but tried and failed to push through. Really interesting world building tho. 3 stars for that.
I’ve read this author before. This was a mm paranormal story set in the USA. Main characters are are Ezra a vampire and Declan a human who is turned during the story. A story about family, power and love.
Holy fcking GOD! I'm crying because it was so perfect. It was so much more and way better than I thought! And I was so afraid of this book, because it was very different from Kate. But I think this book is the proof that why Kate is one of my favorite author. She can write anything and everything and I'd love it!
As I said, I was really afraid of reading this book, and when I started I was skeptical...and after a while I was the happiest because this book was perfection!
Loved Ezra's character, and I mean I LOVED him a LOT! Cute, hot, bit nerd, young and vampire! I just loved everything about him. And then there's Declan. He was cute too and loved how they fell in love and their relationship was SO GOOD. Good God, that soul mate thing, aww, still my heart.
I was afraid that we wouldn't get enough vampirism from the book, but fck yessss, it was totally vamp! So so good! I mean, vampires are my weakness, and i'm picky about perfect vampire books, but THIS, I can't tell enough how good it was.
But that thing with that human girl (sorry, forgot her name)... that was cruel! :( But i forgive, because the ending was perfect.
PERFECT! I need to re-read it, I need to own it in paperback, I need to listen to it on audio, I... I just NEED. This book! It gave all the feels and I'm so happy.
When I first heard Kate Hawthorne was writing a vampire book, I was a little hesitant. Not because of Kate, mind you, but… ummmm… I was a little burned out on vampires, since that was all I wanted to read at one point (I blame Twilight and Vampire Academy, then all the really dirty books I found!!) and so I was unsure whether that would taint my fun in reading it. (Spoiler: It didn’t!)
Ezra was this broody vampire (he did the whole brooding thing so much better than Edward Cullen EVER thought he could); I loved his family or should I say his brothers, since his “mom and dad” kinda made me mad at times, but I grew to like them in the end.
Declan was adorable and sexy and oh-so-naughty! I loved it, and that he didn’t back down from Ezra even when told to. And I loved how devoted he was and that when rogue vampires threatened them, he was stronger than expected.
I really hope Kate ends up writing Ezra's brothers' stories because the way things ended, I need to know how things go!!!
*** Copy provided to Bayou Book Junkie for my reading pleasure, a review wasn't a requirement. ***
I’m not going to write spoilers about the plot, but if you’re hesitating about this book because you’re worried about content, this is for you. It’s the review I would’ve wanted to read before considering the book but couldn’t find.
Don’t read this if the subject of sexual torture bothers you (it’s non-con, mostly mentioned only, and we see the aftermath) or if you’re in any way squeamish about blood. This book is VERY bloody, with blood drinking, blood draining, blood as lube—blood everywhere. Also a lot of sex and violence. Pseudo-incest all around as well. Threesomes (though not with the main couple).
It was not my cup of tea at all. I like a well done vampire story, especially in a modern setting, but this wasn’t for me. Everything I may have liked about the book at one point was ruined or cheapened by the end of it. I skimmed through the second half of it.

Ezra seems resigned to his fate. He has to find a partner. This is his adventure. Declan becomes entangled in Ezra’s world and what happens next you’ll have to read for yourself. This is one hot and sensual read! I’ve never read a vampire story quite like this! It is epic and left me wanting more! I NEED more books in this universe Kate created so wonderfully! SO good!
Ezra and Declan. Overall, I really liked this one. Ezra and Declan had great chemistry and the vampire world was interesting. The main negative was a plot hole. I felt like I missed a chapter that touched on/emphasized the lack of aid from other vampires. This became an important plot point late in the story, but was much too glossed over earlier. Lots of potential here, so I plan to read any additional books if a series develops. C, no reread
3 maybe 3.5 ⭐️ Story 4 ⭐️ Audio- new to me Christopher Rourke
I really enjoyed this. I mean I like vampires and this was semi gory and hot. I liked Ezras voice a lot so I am very interested in checking out more narration by Christopher Rourke. Honestly all the characters seemed sort of nonchalant about pretty much everything, but once we got into the insta love soulmate bond Declan and Ezra grew on me. I would be up for more paranormal by Kate Hawthorne.

This book was soo sooo childish! And I am super disappointed because it had such great reviews 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄! There Main MC is supposed to be 200 years + old but he acts and sounds like a teenager aaaand my god I wanted to bash my head in , there were so many things left unexplained I don't want to spoil it for anyone but arrrrggh😥😣😣😣😣😣😣😣! Just No!!!!!
I absolutely love Vampire stories but something felt missing in this one. The story has potential but it felt like there either wasn't a plot or it wasn't strong enough. Kate is an amazing writer and I love all of her books but this one just wasn't good for me.
A wonderful story with vampires, fated mates and lot and some bloody sexy romance. I really loved the characters and enjoyed how fast paced the story was.
