About the author

Christine Pope

A native of Southern California, Christine Pope has been writing stories ever since she commandeered her family’s Smith-Corona typewriter back in the sixth grade. Many reams of dead trees later, she’s happy to announce that her debut novel, Fringe Benefits, was published by Pink Petal Books on April 8, 2010. Her short fiction has appeared in Astonishing Adventures, Luna Station Quarterly, and the new journal of dark fiction, Dark Valentine. Her paranormal novella, Playing With Fire, was released on August 5, 2010.

While Fringe Benefits is a straight contemporary romance, she writes in a variety of genres, including paranormal romance, fantasy, horror, science fiction, and historical romance. She blames this on being easily distracted by bright, shiny objects, which could also account for the size of her shoe collection.

After spending many years in the magazine publishing industry, she now works as a freelance editor in addition to writing fiction. She lives with her husband and an explosively fluffy Pomeranian mix. Her house is pink, but don’t hold that against her.

Some of the stories were a lot of fun. I enjoyed reading them, and I look forward to following the rest of the character's adventures in the various series they came from.

A few were very much not fun. While I appreciate that there is arguably an audience for this - some of the writing felt like it belonged on the subreddit men writing women. Sexy male protagonists contemplating (or complaining about) their arousal or rambling on about their adventuring buddy's amazing boobies boobing boobily in the middle of life threatening scenarios just isn't something I find sexy or terribly enjoyable to read.

Way too many characters

I couldn't get past the beginning. The author had a ton of characters right off the bat. Who needs that many?

This collection of first in the series Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy Novels introduces the reader to such a variety of storylines, authors, engaging characters, and writing styles, that all together keep the reader not only eager to finish this set of books, but also entice the reader into finishing at least one, if not more, of series that we are introduced to. I recommend this set to anyone who enjoys this genre of books, and for anyone interested in the paranormal.

Nice collection

I really enjoyed reading these books and finding new authors. I purchased this set because of Colleen Gleason’s book. I have read others by her and this one did not disappoint. There was only one book I didn’t read because I just could not get into the story.
These are all book 1 in their series. I already have my list for which series I will read next. Can’t wait to get started!

Varied and interesting tales

While I loved a few of these stories, there were also a few that I wasn’t feeling. I believe it’s a personal taste thing as the parts of the ones I wasn’t too keen on were written well but I couldn’t bring myself to finish. I might come back to finish those eventually. Overall, I think this is a great anthology with a lot of variety and fun!

A fantastic collection of first books of series. Each one a different type of romance developing. Never read any of these authors before, and look forward to reading more and following some of these series. Took me almost 2 years to get through this collection has was only reading a few pages a day, but well worth it.

A must have!

If you like paranormal romance and fantasy reads, you will love this collection! However, if you aren't a fan of series then this collection may not be your cup of tea. Then again, this collection of series starters may be just what you need to open your eyes to a wonderful new beginning!

Five stars, just because I think having a bunch of 1st-in-series urban fantasy novels free and bundled like this is both a cool and good idea. (I'll leave more detailed reviews on the individual books' pages as I read them.)

Excellent grouping of books. I loved each one!

This was the best group of books I've read yet. You will be swept away by each one and each makes you want more even tho they all have sweet satisfying conclusions. Five star's no doubt for the collection!

Some good

All of the stories are full Novels. Many leave you at a cliff hanger. Some finish the current story up but are part of a larger series. My favorite one is Soul Marked. But then again it's written by an Author I enjoy reading anyways.

very interesting

Unusual subject, beautifully rendered.
I steer clear of zombie and apocalypse stories but this one is excellent, rhythmically and thoughtfully written
