This book is engaging. I was expecting a dry read, but I was wrong. Most of the stories are intense. Some are entertaining. All are interesting. Leonowens tells snippets of her life in Siam with wit and brutal honesty that pulled tears, laughter, and anger from me.

(non-descriptive violence, promotes Buddhism over Catholicism which may offend some) This book is difficult to classify. Loenowens states that some of the stories are one which she has collected and not witnessed herself. Keeping in mind that she is a Victorian woman in Thailand, it is interesting to see her retelling of these events/ tales. However, this book is not as historically important as the first one (it does tell a few more background stories for fans of the King and I, though).
