جنگ جهانی دوم عظیم‌ترین جنگ تاریخ بشریت است. زیاده‌خواهی‌های رهبران فاشیست قوای محور (آلمان، ژاپن و ایتالیا) ‌زمینه‌ساز اتحادی شد که چهار کشور انگلستان، امریکا، روسیه، فرانسه (متفقین) را به مقابله با آنان واداشت. آتشی که با تجاوز آلمان به لهستان شعله کشید، در پی هجوم متهورانۀ هواپیماهای ژاپنی به پایگاه دریایی امریکا در پرل هاربر، اقیانوس آرام را به صحنۀ آتش‌بازی بی‌مانند و هراسناکی تبدیل کرد که فرجام آن پرتاب دو بمب هسته‌ای و فروپاشی امپراتوری ژاپن بود. آلمان تا آستانۀ فتح روسیه پیش رفت اما تقدیر به‌گونه‌ای رقم خورد که “ورق برگشت” و هیتلر را در آستانۀ دستیابی به رؤهایای دورودرازش ناکام گذاشت. متفقین به‌اتکای منابع انسانی و مالی و تسلیحاتی افزون‌تر، بر قدرت اراده و توان صنعتی رقیب برتری یافتند تا دنیا از کابوس سلطۀ فاشیسم، غارت و نسل‌کشی رها شود.

🔰 کتاب «جنگ جهانی دوم» سومین عنوان مجموعه کتاب‌های تاریخی انتشارات فرهنگ جاوید هست. گرچه نوبت خوندن این کتاب خیلی جلوتر بود؛ اما با شروع جنگ تحمیلی سوم ترجیح می‌دادم کتابی رو دست بگیرم که برای تاب‌آوری ذهنی مناسب‌تر باشه. بعد خوندن چند عنوان کوتاه، هرکاری کردم دیدم دوست دارم برگردم به روند قبل تا با توجه به نکاتی که از کتاب‌های قبلی دیده بودم، ببینم این‌بار چه نکاتی درخصوص امروزه روز جهان برام خواهد داشت.

🔰 درخصوص ویژگی‌های کلی این مجموعه، دیگه خیلی صحبت نمی‌کنم. همون روند جذاب کل‌نگر در کنار توجه به جزئیات، این‌جا هم پیگیری شده. این عنوان هم نکات بدیع، تازه و ناشنیده‌ای زیادی داشت که ذهنم رو نه تنها نسبت به جنگ جهانی دوم، بلکه درخصوص جنگ‌های دیگه‌ای هم روشن کرد. اگه این‌جا بخوام همه‌اش رو بگم، مطلب شهید می‌شه. عجالتاً چقدر نقش جوامع در جنگ مهمه! در کنار این، اهمیت رهبری، هدایت اقتصاد جنگ، تصمیم‌گیری و مهم‌تر از اون تصمیم‌سازی رو توی وقایع تاریخی مهمی دیدم و فهمیدم همون‌قدر که محتوم‌دونستن نتیجه جنگ جهانی دوم اشتباه بوده، برای باقی جنگ‌های ابرقدرت‌ها هم اشتباهه؛ چه بسا داوودهایی که در انتظار طاغوت‌های جالوتی باشن...

✅ گرچه کیفیت چاپ این عنوان هم مثل باقی عناوین مجموعه خوبه؛ منتهی برخلاف اون‌ها اصلاً ویراستاری مناسبی نداشته! ایرادات محتوایی در به‌کارگیری اسامی اشتباه به جای همدیگه و عدم تطابق آمارها (به‌خصوص در فصل پیامدها) واقعاً تأسف‌بار بود. از این یه مورد که بگذریم، کتاب «جنگ جهانی دوم» از مفیدترین کتاب‌هایی بود که ذیل موضوع تاریخ جنگ خوندم. اگه توی این موضوع، دنبال کتاب خوبی برای شروع مطالعات یا کنجکاوی هستین، به‌نظرم گزینه خیلی خوبی می‌تونه باشه.

پ.ن: دوست داشتم بهتر و مفصل‌تر بنویسم؛ اما نتونستم... چندتایی از بریده‌های جالب کتاب رو این‌جا به اشتراک گذاشتم؛ اما اصلاً جای خوندن کتاب رو نمی‌گیره.
پ.پ.ن: اگه تونستین، شادی روح تمامی شهدایی که این مدت در نبرد میهنی سوم، اسطوره شکست‌ناپذیری قدرت اول اتمی و نظامی جهان و قدرت اول اتمی و نظامی منطقه رو باطل کردن، صلواتی قرائت بفرمائین...

I've always been immensely interested about what was going on in the 2nd world war, how it shaped the European life and how the dictators came in to being with full of courage to fight and invade each other territories. The central character in the second world was obviously Adlof Hitler
fascinated many of us about how and what made him so confident and brave enough to wage wars against vastly powerful Allied forces namely USA, Britain, France, Russia. What was more surprising is that Germany was able to fight eastern and western fronts simultaneously with super powers like Russia and Britain including Pacific regions. How Germany under Adlof Hitlar managed to show superiority over so many European powers during most part of the war but ultimately lost still thrill millions of minds. The writer Alan Farmer in his "Understand the Second World War" takes us in a journey to explore all of these incidents made the book a great one to read. Point to be noted that this is the first time in human history when atomic bombs were dropped in Japan made the world horrified. The world saw countries were divided, millions of casualties, economic collapse, destructions of modern weaponry systems and so on.

The second world war finally brings a question in front of us if in 1945 the world witnessed such big destructive event of the humanity then should the world allow to come into being a 3rd world war ever? Yet we can see the powerful countries are once again in a race to develop mass destructive weapons the world has ever seen.

Good quick high level overview of the second world war. For me, it pulled togethor many of the threads learned from various sources over time. Found the maps a bit frustrating at times as they didn't always seem to identify the places highlighted in the text, and sometimes were a bit busy.

For a first book on the subject, it is a great choice. With a clean narrative and a good concern about almost every affecting matter, from needed raw material for making tanks and amo to diplomatic difficulties and conflicts between allied and axis powers. It is a good read.

I found this to be a really good overview of the narrative of the war, bringing together the various threads I knew about but had not joined together. The analytical insights are helpful too and come across as well balanced.

A fantastic overview of the causes, major players, key events and consequences of the second world war. Written clearly and concisely for those of us without masters without pandering or editing any important points. The books length limits its depth in certain areas but there are 1,000,000 more focused texts to read after this incredibly enlightening introduction. I'd recommended it to anyone interested in the history of the worlds most important years and looking for a place to start.
