pri·mor·di·al adjective (ˈ)prī-¦mȯr-dē-əl

2 : constituting a basis or starting point : existing independently

Even ignoring the concepts of precursor or first, we do hold the nuance of the unexplainable when using the term. The definition takes on the meaning of mystery and the unknowable when we use the word, often imparting a notion of power. Lest we stray too deeply into those meanings, if we take the definition more literally, what is left is something we can more easily comprehend. A true starting point, or the beginning of everything that follows, is an idea we can grasp and define with our limited cognitive abilities. I could make the argument that the Quarrel existed in a primordial state when we found them, their future in a state of stasis that waited for an event to set it into motion.
