It happened at the worst possible time... Nobody knows my terrible secret - not my friends, not my colleagues, not even my powerful father. All this time, I've been living and working amongst them as a respected, high-powered Alpha woman. The only thing saving me from certain ruin and the destruction of my dreams are the suppressants I take daily, the medication I've been using to hide in plain sight. Because, in truth, I'm an Omega. And then the unthinkable happens. The suppressants stop working in a crowded room full of Alpha men, one of whom decides we're fated to be together. He will pursue me until I surrender but while my body craves him, I refuse to give up my life to become nothing more than an Alpha's mate...

Primal Mate is book 2 in the Alphas of Sandor series and I enjoyed it so much more than book 1. Clara is an Omega who has been hiding as an Alpha. She has worked very hard to get where she is today and is horrified when her suppressants fail during an event where Alphas try to find their mates. Evander has come yet again to the event in hopes that he will finally find a mate. While speaking to the lovely Clara the best smell invades his senses. As he excuses himself in search of that smell he realizes that it was coming from the lovely Clara and is shocked to learn she is actually an Omega and his mate. I thought Clara and Evander were great characters. Although Evander does use her heat to take advantaged of the situation I had a hard time staying mad at him. He was so loving and wanted her so bad and Clara would have definitely try to run and hide. I look forward to more in this series.
Whilst this book can easily be read as a stand alone, Book #1 does provide more world building and some useful background information. It's also a great read and one I'm happy to recommend, though I would say it had a darker edge to it than this one. Primal Mate has some elements of dub-con and a non-con event , though I would say no rape and very limited violence (perpetrated by a side character).
It took me a while to warm to Evander, but then it always does take time for me to accept the overly demanding alpha males in this type of story. His character had dimension and, other than his initial out of control behaviour, he was very respectful of and caring towards Clara. I loved how his personality was consistent throughout and that I came to accept him for his words, deeds and actions in the same way that Clara did.
Clara's character was also very solid, a real role model for Omega's everywhere! She retained her strong character and determination throughout the story, and I loved how this was incorporated with the series story arc to raise the profile and social standing of omegas.
I did feel there were conflicting messages around Clara's father, and perhaps it would have been better for her to have just been compliant through fear of him, rather than through wanting to earn his love/respect/attention. This was the only occasion where I felt like I was expected to believe something because I was told something rather than being shown it.
Overall though this is a great story, (I use the GR rating where 2 = ok and give 5 for books that really stay with me in a good way.) I would definitely recommend it to those who love both omegaverse, paranormal and dark'ish' reads.
If you're looking for an Alpha/Omega book that isn't too harsh -- as many are -- then I'd recommend this. Authors (even those who didn't start out doing so) are increasingly writing "darker" and "darker" books -- I assume to stand out in a crowded market. While they may be gaining new fans, they're also (at least in my case) leaving old ones behind (proving, I know, that you can't please all of the readers all of the time). Fans like me who don't want to read the over-the-top rapes and beatings that now feature in too much of this genre. Although this book is labeled "dark," I wouldn't really call it that: Evander really does care for Clara and wants her to be happy; the one time he is too violent with her is based on a misunderstanding and he immediately feels guilty, apologizes, and tries to make it up to her.
For the most part, the MC is likeable. Although I didn't like Evander's blackmailing Clara, I did, as I said above, liked the way he treated her in general. I particularly appreciated that he supported her professional aspirations and didn't treat her as less than because she was an Omega.I also liked Clara's strength, her intelligence, her professionalism, and her dedication to improving her community (I hope we see more of this last in the next book).
This one is competently written -- few typos and descriptive enough without overwhelming us with detail. And the erotic scenes are detailed.
Finally -- in terms of positives -- I really, really appreciated that the author partially avoids gender essentialism by representing some Omegas who are biologically male.
I do have a few quibbles, mostly to do with Clara's father. I didn't feel that her feelings for him were given enough motivation: particularly since he made her mother's life miserable. Given Clara's closeness to her mother, it didn't really follow that she wouldn't resent him at all. In addition, at one point Evander wonders about Clara's relationship with her father, but this particular plot point goes nowhere. When we do discover the big secret, it isn't one that explains Clara's feelings.
Ultimately, I read this book as an extended metaphor for real-life contemporary D/s relationships. Some (note that I don't say all) assume that submissives are weak doormats with no say in the dynamic who receive no respect from their dominants (Clara's father holds a extreme version of this view). Some (note that I don't say all) submissives worry that choosing a lifestyle that fulfills them either might cause others to think of them as weak or they have a hard time reconciling their drive to succeed professionally with their submissive desires. Clara, for me, stands-in for these misperceptions: she excelled at school, is good at her job, is valued by her friends and co-workers, and submits to one special dominant, who earns her submission. While the sex tropes of the Alpha/Omega universe don't make this particular relationship a one-to-one correspondence with real-life D/s, the two do share some of the most important tenets: that D/s is a real partnership in which both members have a say, have their needs met, and their desires fulfilled.
4 stars.
Note: I adhere to the ratings system as laid out by Goodreads: 2 stars = it was okay; 3 stars = liked it; 4 stars = really liked it; 5 stars = it was amazing. I gave this book 4 stars because I was really liked this particular Alpha/Omega universe. I do not think that every book I read is "amazing;" further, I think that it cheapens the rating system to always assign 4 or 5 stars. If a book really earns the 4 or 5 stars (and I realize that this is, to some degree, subjective), I'll give them -- but it certainly shouldn't apply to every book. YMMV, and everyone should enjoy/rate these books as they wish.
Additional Note: I did not receive this book as an ARC; I'm not another author who hosts or is hosted by other authors in this genre on our websites; and I'm not friends with the author IRL, "friends" on this site, or friends on any social media site.
This is the second book in the Alphas of Sandor series and features Evander and Clara. If you've read the first book then you know that Evander is Arius' best friend. Clara is from a prominent family and poses as an Alpha even though she is an Omega. She takes suppressants to hide her dynamic. Clara does not wish to be an Omega in a world where some see Omegas as merely an incubator. When Evander and Clara run into each other at the Facility where Omegas live, her suppressants wear off and Evander recognizes her as his.
Evander whisks her away and is set on claiming her as his but Clara never had this scenario in her life plans and feels as if her world is crumbling. If her father finds out that she is actually an Omega, he will surely kill her. Can Evander and Clara navigate their new circumstances? Will the two of them be able to build a life together and still get what they want?
An enjoyable Omegaverse read that had heat and adventure. I found Evander to be a little less alpha than I was expecting and I didn't really like him at first. Clara was a strong character but I also thought that for someone posing as an Alpha for so long that she would have a little more grit. I was expecting the story to be darker than it was. But overall if you're in the mood for a smutty Omegaverse with an easy plot, I would recommend this.
This book made me weep in anger and frustration, because omegas are always treated so unfairly; they claim they are so precious, yet always treat them so poorly by pushing them around, taking their choices away...... I wish this had turned out differently, but I will admit that it had a lot of wasted potential.
It was market night at the facility and all available alphas and omegas had to attend so they could find their mates. Clara was in a panic as she realized her suppressants had failed and she could be scented and exposed as an omega, not the female alpha that she showed to the world. Evander caught her scent and whisked her away so he could claim her as his mate, the thing he's been looking for all his life. There were so many complications for Clara, she never wanted a mate, she had her work and standing as an alpha female to protect. Evander wanted his fated mate and was going to dominate her and show her what a real omega was meant for. Between Clara's scent of her estrus causing his rut and her slick running down her thighs, she couldn't deny her fate anymore. I just loved how hard Evander tried to get Clara to accept her estrus and got some great advice from his best friend, the king on how to treat a new omega in heat. The whole story was sexy and hot as h*ll, I loved every minute and every word I read! I hope there are more Alpha's of Sandor to read about in the future.
Tabitha Black has taken us back to Sandor and her omegaverse. Her world is lighter than some of the other MF omegaverse books out there, but that doesn't mean that they aren't every bit as good as the rest of the books out there. Because they really are fantastic. Her world is incredible, and it's an interesting way of looking at the omegaverse.
Clara has been hiding her true dynamic for years. She's an omega who has been passing as an alpha for years. She is a highly respected researcher and she doesn't want to really want to lose that, and if ever becomes known that she's an omega, she runs that risk. Then she goes to the facility and runs into Evander, and the unthinkable happens. They are mates.
I really liked the story, for a lot of reasons. One of them is that we get to see difference in expectations that Evander and Clara have when it comes to mating. Another is that we get to see more of the society and how society works. That is really fascinating, and I'm looking forward to see what is going to happen next.
I'm still reading my way through Omegaverse books but this one by Tabitha Black was one of the best ones I've read. Clara and Evander are hot together and while this was a quick read, it was packed with all kinds of emotions. I wanted more so maybe we'll see more of them in another book. I hope there are more to come!
I am voluntarily writing this review for this book I received through Booksprouts arc.
Clara was an Omega even though she was taking a pill to mask her Omega scent. Her life was going well until her pills stopped working in the middle of a Alpha encounter. Evander was walking past Clara when all of a sudden he got the feeling of wanting to rut but he kept walking but the feeling was getting fainter. He walks back towards Clara and it hit him again. He grabs her and couldn’t understand since he thought she was also an alpha. But, realized that Clara had been suppressing through drugs her true Omega nature. As an Alpha she had all the privilege that they were afforded. Clara and Evander got together and as much as she couldn’t help herself. Finally Evander claimed her and Clara freaked out everything she was working towards seem to go down the drain. Clara is finding out through the Queen she could possible have the best of both worlds. Clara decided to hasten what needed to be said she gathered her friends and told them waiting to see the discuss on their faces but none came. Next she needed to tell her father and the King said he would help knowing her father was after a introduction to him. Twists, turns, lies and murder make this an exciting book
He'll🐺🍆⛲ never let her go....Resistance is Futile... Clara💃💋 has been masquerading as an Alpha woman all of her adult life with the help of supressants. She is a medical researcher and spends her free time working on new, black market suppressants.
Every month, unmated Alphas🐺 are required to go to a party where unmated Omega men and women are presented to them.
Clara💃💋 thought she could get away with her secret for many years since over 80% of Omegas are women. She could just pretend she couldn't find a mate.
Time is not on her side, and her meds fail right in the middle of the party. She is inspecting some Omega males, when Evander🐺🍆⛲, a huge Alpha male, greets her. Suddenly he realizes his long sought mate is in the room. In a few minutes he realizes it is Clara💃💋! OH NO! OH YES!
ARC Received from Booksprout🌱 I also got this ebook with KU.
This is a great addition to the Omegaverse 🌎world of sci-fi books, a genre comprised of several very good sci-fi authors.
This is definitely an ADULTS only novel with 24/7 D/s situations and rough XXX s#x throughout.
Read book from KU, Clara is an Omega but she takes suppressants and pretends to be an Alpha. Her meds fail, and Evander smells her and knows she's his mate.
This isn't your typical Alpha/Omega book in that Evander is a nice guy. He doesn't force Clara, cares about her and treats her way better than she does him. Clara kind of ruined the book for me. She's a gigantic baby that is constantly complaining, feeling sorry for herself ,and only worried about herself. I kept waiting for her to stamp her foot, and stick out her tongue...which was ironic because she preached being independent and I am woman hear me roar while acting like a brat.
I'm new to the Omegaverse genre of paranormal/sci-fi romance. This story has some mild dom/sub themes as well as forced consent. A good, quick, dirty read which met my expectations and surpassed them. Enjoyed the story and the author's descriptive writing that pulls you right in from start to finish.
Wonderfully fantastic... The book was amazing... It had a lot of details and juicy scenes to it... The characters and their personalities match them perfectly... The plot and the storyline was very descriptive and amazing...

This book is just as great as the first one and keeps you at the edge of your seat from start to finish? It has action, cruelty of a father, love of friends, spanking, and hot steamy scenes that leaves you saying ahh with awesome characters. Hope to read more books of Alphas of Sandor and definitely a must buy series.
I did enjoy this second book, Storyline was epic, the twist and the problems they both faced, Was good to keep up the the king and queen with this book as well..
I was sad when I finished the first book in the series, Arius and Saskia's story because of how much I enjoyed being "part of" their journey. Before reading "Primal Mate," I strongly suggest you read the above story first, has it, necessarily, explains this "new" society, you are introduced to Arius's best friend and fellow alpha Evander, and where Alphas go to search for their mates. The struggles of being "tested" as an Omega and their place in this society and why it was shaped this way, before Arius' rise to power. In "Primate Mate," now that the premise is set, "we" get to primarily focus on Evander and Clara's unwanted (for Clara) newly formed relationship, its struggles, hiccups and unbridled passion. Arius and Saskia make serval appearances, more as invested friends and aid in keeping the story moving along smoothly and at a steady pace. I can also put to rest any worries (I have the same) that any second book is never as good as the first by expressing, with delight, it gets even better!
Clara is a fierce woman to stand and keep trying even with so much adversity. She knew the risks of long-term use but was so afraid of the possibilities of a mate that she was willing to take the chance and run the risk. Evander seems like a honest gentleman who was ecstatic in finding his mate despite her reservations about being claimed as a mate. He definitely only wants Clara's happiness even though she is the one who is blocking her own path by not being her true self and listen to reason. Evander felt like he had no choice by Clara wanting to constantly run away from him and not give them a chance. So he took the only choice that he could see at the time being which turned out to be the best choice of it all.

This was a fantastic story about Evander and his Omega mate Clara, who happens to be everything but an Omega, or so it seems. Evander has been anxiously waiting for the day when he would meet his mate, never did he imagine she would be an Omega disguised as an Alpha female. Clara has always suppressed her Omega identity and has successfully led an Alpha lifestyle until the dreaded day when she finds herself standing in front of Evander. While her brain battles her bodily carnal desires, Evander struggles between being a caring understand mate and a beastly Alpha who must claim his Omega mate. This is a passionate sizzling story that will leave you wanting more estrus rut induced scenes!

I'm weird in the sense that when I start a book I have to finish it wether I like it or not. This was well written and didn't have many grammatical errors. That being said ... I didn't enjoy it. I skipped whole pages trying to get it over with. An omega hiding out as an alpha, an alpha determined to keep what he deems as his, a deranged father. Sounds good at first but I just couldn't bring myself to actually enjoy it. I'm an positive other people will highly enjoy this book. Just not me.
Clara is an Omega hiding in plain sight as an Alpha. Her suppressants stop working just as our H is next to her in an “Alpha marketing” event. He realises what she is and goes into a rut.
The plot from there on continues as Clara comes to terms with her biology and the hero attempts to be patient and understanding to her needs and fears, as much as an Alpha can manage.
Enjoyable, predictable and with a lot of references to the characters in the previous book (which I have not read). So this can definitely be a standalone
This omegaverse story was just ok. I understand putting a different spin on the story, but alpha like females just don't interest me. I go to omegaverse to NOT feel in control in a life where I am in control of everything so I felt robbed of the escape in this story. Evander was not alpha enough for me and Clara wasn't omega at all except physically.
So I read the first book, so the second book was obvious. This one felt kind of stocker, rape, victim, feel she kept saying no, and he kept pursuing and stocking and demanding then raping… and even after he had sex with her and she’s bawling her face off he’s trying to convince her that it’s OK so a little bit of Stockholm syndrome as well… I normally loved all of the other books that I’ve read from this author this one was a little dirty feeling, but in the end, it all worked out.
I enjoy these short stories; your typical rejected mate story: omega hides and runs, alpha chases and goes crazy about rejection. Fun. This omega is a "good" blonde with an "evil" dark haired father, typical Heimler's bible/ Oera Linda.
There were quite a few mistakes I noticed while reading. I don’t know what it is, but this felt a bit lack luster. Like the attraction was a bit forced and didn’t have a smooth transition. I enjoyed the concept, I will be reading more. If any more are released.
I found the book to be an ok reading. I didn't like how the storyline and the characters were. I really didn't like the story development. It ended well but disliked how it got there.
