Upon waking up, Ruan Xia had transmigrated into a webnovel that she had stayed up all night to finish reading. She had become the villain’s mother.
In the novel, after the death of her first husband, the original owner of the body had hooked up with an Mr. Perfect at the fastest possible speed. Worried and discontent that her son from her first marriage would become a burden on her, she heartlessly abandoned her son.
Having once held the best quality script and informed of future events, Ruan Xia looked at her still alive first husband as well as her future villain son. She sighed. She wanted to apply for a different script!
Ruan Xia transmigrated, becoming an instant mother to a future villain. Her husband and her had an understanding that there's no love in the relationship but, for the sake of their three years old son (the future villain), they will remain amicable.
It took me until chapter 105 based in translation to realize that the story was slow pace and not much was happening. In fact, I even forgot that their son was the future villain. There's not effort from Ruan Xia except she was much nicer to their son.
I believe the story is great. But, it's not my cup of tea.
I'm a little torn on whether to rate this a 3.0 or 4.0. The first 60-70% of the novel was really solid. The main characters are both realistic, likable, and rational individuals and their interactions just screamed slow build-up. The kid too was adorable and a joy to read. But then all the tension and sweetness in the story kinda just went nowhere in the end. It feels like the author lost interest in writing the story by the time the end rolled around. It did conclude properly but it also did feel a little half-hearted. It's a shame because the beginning was really fun to read. I don't regret reading this though and would still recommend it. It's one of the better headache-free, modern Chinese transmigration novels out there.
I'm quite simple when it comes to novels like this one. My rating depends on wether I enjoy it or not and that's it. Needless to say, I really did enjoy it.
Honestly, nothing much happens in this story, is the epitome of an slice of life novel. The romance could even be labeled as a secondary plot, as it mainly follows the FL trying to adapt to her new life and status as a mom; as for the romance part, I guess you could say is a slow burn (a really slow one, at that), but I loved their relationship regardless. They were both down to earth and mature, and would always talk things out instead of keeping it to themselves and allow misunderstandings to damage the bond they were trying to strengthen. Of course there were times when they were confused and at a loss for fear of worrying the other, but I appreciated that they would recognize that having a conversation was the best way to go about things.
As for little Wang, he was also a really cute child, really smart and perceptive. I read many complaints on Novel Updates about how unrealistic that was (valid, since he was only four and most children at his age still can't speak properly), but meh, what about it? He wasn't annoying and his behavior made, at least my reading experience, more enjoyable. I also really loved the MC's view on marriage and childbirth, and how the story resalted the unfairness of society's expectations on women, and explored the different lifestyles and opinions without having to put one down to highlight the other.
Anyways, overall, it was, for the most part, an uneventful story, cute and easy to read. I really loved it, it allowed me to turn my brain off for a while and just enjoy a cozy read.
3.5 stars! It was mild storyline with a few psychological thriller moments thrown in. The characters were the best part of the novel with a husband with the mentality of a dedicated single father and the transmigrated caring mother.
The precocious three year old son was meant to be smart for his age. It was adorable at the beginning. Then, his dialogue made him sound like a transmigrated older man took over his soul. It got cringey.
The ending deflated so quickly I thought I was missing chapters from the translation. It was lackluster. It was one of the few times I wished the story had a time jump into the future to show how the much touted potential gangster son ended up and if the couple had another genius child. This is worth reading once with low expectations of the ending.

So many reasons to fall out of a story and not be fully engage. Which is why I enjoyed the first half of this romance a lot. The couple develop feelings and fall in love over time and many interactions. It was nice to read the progression. A blend of wishful thinking, awkward sweet somethings, realistic expectations, communication based on trust & respect and a blossoming wonder of two people finding love where none was expected.
A nice story, the characters are well-developed and it doesn't go over the top.
The one thing that bugs me is the whole telling a child to protect his mother because she's a girl, it's quite sexist. It's one thing to tell a child to take care of his mother when she feels unwell but the whole "protect her" is so unreasonable.
