Omega Kyle Holt has issues. He’s always been quiet and had trouble connecting to people. In high school he confused sex with love. He fooled around a bunch with bi-curious alphas attempting to find a connection. But those guys just wanted to use his body in secret, and pretend they didn’t even know him in real life.
Alpha Cliff Richard’s is a friend of Kyle’s brother. He’s confident, popular, and straight. But when he befriends Kyle, Cliff discovers not only does he like Kyle as a person, he’s having powerful feelings of sexual attraction toward his new buddy.
When Cliff pushes for more than just friendship, Kyle is afraid to cross that line. He’s been down this road too many times and doesn’t want to be used again. But he has such strong feelings for Cliff, he gives in.
Cliff thinks he’s ready to be open about his bisexual feelings, until reality hits. Sometimes the idea of something is more fun than the reality. Especially when you’re in a town full of bigots, and your own family disapproves.
Unfortunately, as Cliff struggles with fear and insecurities, Kyle only sees that as the same rejection he’s faced so many times before.
This 53,000 word story is book one in Beau's new Red Sky, Texas Mpreg Series. It's filled with angst, male pregnancy, smexy times and lots of the warm fuzzy feelings you expect from an Mpreg romance by Beau Brown.
Full disclosure: I started skimming around 25%. I've read fiction written by middle school students that showed more style and dialogue awareness.
This book is an absolute mess, brimming with stereotypes, simplistic prose, and the most awkward dialogue of all time. Everyone sounds like a dude-bro in this story.
There's no depth 😬 it's sloppy especially the dialogue, everytime they speak I just don't see any connection between them, I need flirting, and jokes, everything that makes sense, dialogue that seems natural, not dialogue that just there for the sake of writing. What I liked was the omega and alpha dynamic doesn't seen too apparent. I didn't like the angts, this could've been a cute story if it wasn't for the angts it felt forced and unnecessary especially with the way Kyle was behaving.
P.s. omega should have their own natural "lube" Not one you have to buy from the store
This was book 1 in the "Red Sky, Texas"Omega Kyle Holt is the shy weird kid who is very quiet. Alpha Cliff Richard’s is a friend of Kyle’s brother. He’s confident, popular, and straight. But when he befriends Kyle, Cliff discovers not only does he like Kyle as a person, he’s having powerful feelings of sexual attraction toward his new buddy. Kyle doesn't want to go down that road again he hook up with Alphas in the past that only used him. This was a good read when Cliff tells him about is feelings Kyle is confused they have sex and when Kyle's brother comes home Cliff panics and hurts Kyle's feelings. This was a good read that I liked from an author that I enjoy reading. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
Edit: Original rating was 3 stars now it's one. Is this book a rip off of Cooper Fox's Shy Boy? https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/sho...# The only difference is that Brett Holt was changed to Kyle Holt and there is no omegaverse that I can detect, I'd probably prefer the original for this reason.
I feel like this book would have made much more sense without the ABO Mpreg aspect added in. The story of a straight guy discovering he may not be fully straight in the face of bigotry from family is kind of a tired story, but makes sense and feels true in the real world. In this story, this aspect of the story makes no sense. The whole reason why people don't accept male/male relationships in our world is, in their words, it's "not natural". They can't procreate. In this story's world, male omegas are a thing and they can give birth. Why would there be homophobic people in this world where men getting pregnant by other men is a natural phenomenon? It doesn't make sense. The equivalent in this ABO world to homophobia in our world would probably be more like if an Alpha/Alpha or Omega/Omega pairing happened. (Also, who is supposed to get a male omega pregnant in this world? Cis women Alphas? Do they make sperm? I'm confused. If only male Alphas can get males omegas pregnant, and this is natural in this world, why is there even such a thing as gay or straight or homophobia against same sex pairings?) That's not to say I didn't get some enjoyment out of the book. It was relatively well written otherwise and had some good angst. I just wish it made more sense to the world building.
Meh... I kind of grabbed this on a whim with a few other books.. again I’m trying to make sure my KU membership gets put to use...
It was a typical contemporary style omegaverse, nothing earth shattering but enjoyable enough to read all the way through. I will say that I found the back and forth between Cliff and Kyle to be pretty tiresome.
I’ve read this author before and some of the work is ok. This one felt like I should be in the 50s. The omegaverse just felt odd. Very different from what I’m used to. The dialogue was tiring and sometimes felt like a scene from I love Lucy. Drama drama, a little bit sweet then down right corny. With a HEA. Two stars I’m being generous.
Kyle....Kyle fucking sucks. Trying to guilt Cliff into coming out before he's ready, without giving him a chance to wrap his head around things. Jesus. What a dick
The robbery scene is dumb.
Kyle decides that Cliff wants to keep him a dirty little secret because of one incident after the first time they hook up where they were almost walked in on....mk
Where does Kyle get this weird notion that Cliff is "petrified of his feelings" for Kyle?
They were friends for a month and had sex once and Kyle abandoned him and all hope of a relationship for no good reason and somehow, the conclusion Cliff comes to is that Kyle is worth losing his family over?
A small town romance with narrow views is about to be shocked into this century!
Cliff a jock and his brothers friend. He is an alpha a mans man. Kylie is the shy little brother. Kylie gay & he and his little brother left toxic parents and are roommates. Brett is Kyle's older brother so 2 romances in one story...but there is a little man that will steal your heart Aiden. A great story to pick up. V2 S2 More reviews @ my2centsbooklover Thanks
This book has little to no errors. I just can't make up my mind if I liked it. There was nothing obviously wrong with it but I just didn't fall in love with was or the characters.
Knowing who you are and standing up for that is hard to do in a small town. Coming out bisexual after years of sleeping with women is even more difficult. However, if you have love and are willing to work together anything is possible. This book proves that theory.
We have two men that know each other from an early start. One has a crush on the other for a long time. The other doesn't know it but he doesn't know his sexuality either. He thinks he's straight.
Such a sensitive Alpha, loved all the characters. It is terrifying facing your fears but I’m glad they made it work. I definitely loved the ending. HEA
The first installment of the series, this one delivers. The blurb is exactly right. You get some angst, Smexy times, a baby and a happy ever after. This is a great story that can be read in one sitting.
I really loved reading this book and cannot wait to read the rest of the series. I wish i read this soon. I loved Kyle and cliff as a couple and glad they both gave into their feelings.
Many do not realize how painful it is to be shy. As well as, how hurtful others can be toward a shy person. In particular bullying them in school or in the workplace. People can't just snap out of being shy. It takes time and patience. It takes understanding from others.
The Social Anxiety experienced is real. The person has to be brave to put themselves out there. The right friend can make all the difference in the world. Cajoling, compromising, and making the activities compelling are all tools to help propel the shy guy out of his comfort zone. Then repeat as often as necessary to create a new comfort zone and a Safe Zone. Going so far as to have a Safe Word when things begin feeling overwhelming.
Beau Brown put a lot of thought into crafting this new series. The characters in this contemporary Omegaverse are well-developed. The reader can actually viscerally feel their pain, nervousness, confusion, anger, depression, excitement, and happiness.
I really enjoyed this book. It touched on several tropes such as, negative family dynamics, close brothers, homophobic views based on religion, a brother's good friend, social anxiety, experimentation between straight & gay guys, gay for you, loneliness, importance of friendship, and learning to trust.
I would have given the book a five star rating instead of a 4.5, but the backstories of the MCs was not really told only mentioned. Otherwise I truly recommend this First book in the Red Sky series. I'll be reading the Second story, Good Boy soon.
Shy Boy's a wonderfully fun mpreg romance by Beau Brown.
From the start, I feel in love with the pleasant tone, and the adorable Kyle. Falling for his brother's best friend, Kyle fears Cliff's true feelings and getting hurt. Cliff, meanwhile, struggles with his sexuality, which is explored in a heartfelt and entertaining manner. Having always liked girls, his attraction to Kyle is definitely confusing to him.
For Kyle it's a story about the pain of being with a sexually confused man, the pain of being denied, and the pain involved with being a secret. His lack of self confidence is awful, believing he doesn't deserve anything more than a one-off. My heart broke for the man. For Cliff it's a story of the struggle with coming out as bisexual, the fear of telling people, and the struggle of facing coming out to oneself.
Kyle and Cliff are hot together, as the emotions are high, the connection is strong, and there's all sorts of first time fun. They're definitely super hot, super steamy, and super sexy as a couple.
Overall, I highly enjoyed Shy Boy, am completely impressed with Beau Brown's writing, and need to check out his backlist. Shy Boy's a short, fast, and sweet tale of trusting someone with your heart. It's a beautiful, happy story of two men lonely men finding love together.
I assume it’s the same person/copyright holder using a different pen name, otherwise it’s massive plagiarism.
The two books in this series appear to be updated and expanded versions of two books listed under a different author. The titles and descriptions are almost word for word the same, but the tropes and themes have been significantly changed (to take advantage of the latest trends in sales?).
In particular, in both books, an omegaverse alpha/beta/omega veneer was added, but in both stories its essentially meaningless for much of the story. The story has about doubled in size (according to Kindle page counts), so it appears to be substantially expanded, but it does strike me as having the bones of one story (gay-for-you) grafted with updates of the current popular tags (a/b/0) that in a way that doesn’t really deliver.
Kyle is an omega with a serious case of low self-esteem. His parents were cold emotionally and his father was physically abusive. His Brother Brett stepped up to the bat for him and he lives with him now. School was not a good experience for him and the way he was treated just re-enforced his feelings about himself. shy to the point of being neurotic, he is finally persuaded to go out with Brett's friend Cliff to play pool. Cliff is straight, but there is something about Kyle that pulls him in. An excellent story about a man who is just discovering his sexually, a man who learns to step out of his comfort zone once in awhile and a growing love that one can hope gets off the ground. I highly recommend this contemporary, m/m, Mpreg book. I voluntarily read and reviewed this ARC book.
4.5 stars. Kyle has incredibly low self-esteem. Nearly crippling shyness makes it difficult to connect with a guy. Cliff pursues Kyle before realizing there is more of an attraction than just friendship. Cliff's fear of coming out is just as strong as Kyle's fear of rejection. Both guys made some major errors along the way. Cliff's declarations of his love and commitment were very sweet and that whenever Kyle let d0ubt and fear creep in he was right there reassuring him that what they had was real.
Another well written book by Beau Brown. He brings strong characters in Kyle and Cliff , gives them a hot chemistry and attraction. Problem : One is lacking self esteem and is very shy and the other is just discovering he's bi-sexual and leery of coming out. The author does a great job developing the characters and moving the story fluidly. I loved reading and would recommend this book.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
Shy Boy is the first book in the Red Sky, Texas Series by Beau Brown. It is a story about an Alpha, Cliff, realizing his bisexuality for the first time when he starts to develop feelings for his friend's brother... And an omega, Kyle, who is so use to Alphas wanting to keep him as their dirty little secret I truly enjoyed this story and the characters. The story has drama/angst, humor, steam and a sweetness to it. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.
I check Amazon daily to see if Beau Brown has released a new book and I was so happy when I saw this one! This was a great start to a new series. I’m not big on only getting one persons views but it didn’t change what an awesome love story this is between Kyle and Cliff. I can’t wait for book two!
A great start to a new series that is well written and very enjoyable as always from Beau Brown.
It wasn't too angst ridden but sufficient to tell the story of them along with the drama of their tuxedo fitting. I liked the support that Kyle received from his brother and his perceptive fiancée.
I'm very much looking forward to reading Piper and Sam's story tomorrow.
