When Allegra Darling finds herself cursed by a black grimoire, she knows she’s in big trouble. Things get even worse when a body turns up in the pond where she’s trying to cleanse herself of the evil magic.
Finding a dead body floating in a pond is not the way you want to start your day. Allegra recognizes the dead man, too, and she knows he was fighting with a local shop owner in the tavern the night before.
But was that Knox Hills resident the killer? Who else wanted the man dead? And, can Allegra shake the dark energy that has her sleepwalking into ever more dangerous places?
Allegra and friends have to solve the crime one spell at a time.
Sara Bourgeois is a Midwesterner through and through. She spends her time writing, reading, herding cats, and standing in her driveway during tornado warnings. (You can't see them from the basement.)
This is an entertaining paranormal cozy mystery series. A great cast of characters with an entertaining storyline. Aalegra is a witch who inherited her uncles ice cream shop in a small town she used to visit every summer. After moving back to town she should’ve remembering yeah which is actually ran and her family. Bronco head set it up so that she owned his ice cream shop had a little bit of money and a house to live in. Along with her familiar A dog that happens to talk. And her close friend Alex who happens to be a supernatural hunter of evil supernatural‘s. Once again Aalegra can’t help herself but start investigating another mystery. Read on and find out what happens in this book.
I really enjoyed this series when I started it way back in February, so I wanted to finally read the next book. I love how Trixie took Allegra under her wing and got her educated in her magic powers. Voodoo is just the coolest little dog. With those three investigating, there's no door that they can't get in for snooping a crime scene or just looking for evidence. I really like Alex, Allegra's sort of boyfriend, and I will at least give a cliffhanger warning for this book. The main murder was solved, but something did happen that'll make you want to find out more.
Great red herrings, because just when I thought I knew whodunit, I was wrong! I need to get to that next book soon!
This characters are a nice variety of likeable characters. I do think the plot is a little weak and not exactly plausible. Bourgeois does have issues with details making sense based of how people react in real life. The series needs a little more substance and depth. The book has two plot lines and one concludes and the other carries over which I thought added some meat to the series. I do like that Bourgeois is a fast writer but she may need to put more thought into her characters and plots. If she added more layers of depth for her characters she would be amazing and not just good.
Again, there were words left out, the wrong words used and some grammatical issues. Please, authors should have their work proofread before their work is published.
This book was a bit hard to get through; just not as captivating as previous books by this author...but it won’t stop me from reading the next book in the series!
Easy to read, surprise endings, and fun characters are all you need for a good read. I really enjoyed first two books and I am on my way to the third. But not right now, I have to get some housework done. Next book is my reward.🍦
I fell in love with the characters and story in this series so far. Great writing and character description makes for a easy and enjoyable read. Great Reading Everyone!
Oh Man ...well murder solved..now Alex is Missing..so the hunt for him is on..Let's hope they find him...this series is fast pace and can't put it down..
Fun story and characters that are interesting. The storylines are different from other paranormal stories and getting into a good story. Definitely enjoyed the story.
It seems that there are a lot of witch books out where a woman has a problem and ends up in a town where she's inherited a store and then finds out she's a witch. One series has a woman running a type of pet store where the animals are prospective familiars. There's at least two stories where the woman ends up running a bookstore. This series has her running an ice cream shop.
She has started to adjust but then finds a body in a pond who then promptly becomes a ghost and shows up at her house. She becomes involved in trying to find the killer but she has another problem to solve.
She starts sleepwalking and it seems it's getting worse. I've enjoyed both these first two books in the series.
Allegra Darling is all prepared for a date with Alex – until it turns out he meant they were going out . . . hunting for an evil rogue fae trying to lure children in for cookies. Her familiar, Voodoo said she should have gotten a clue when she was told to bring him along. She finally gave in and agreed to the hunt when he offered to take her out for waffle fries later – with cheese, or no deal.
After a successful hunt, Alex took them back to his bookstore to show her something. There was a basement below the shop, and the three of them went down the stairs. He had found an old black leather book, a grimoire, in an abandoned barn. Allegra immediately felt something “wrong” with the book. Voodoo told her to put it down immediately and Alex put it in a black bag. Allegra and Voodoo warded the basement for protection. When they walked to the tavern for the fries, Allegra shivered as the last of the book’s gloom dissipated due to the tavern’s cleansing sigils around the entry door.
A man named Tim came into the tavern and sat down at the bar close to Jim Baker who seemed irritated at the intrusion. Tim tried to talk to Jim, but the man ignored him and seemed to get angry. Then they started arguing about the punch cards that earned customers free coffee every couple of weeks. When the fists started to fly, Alex stepped in to separate them.
Allegra had been cursed by the black grimoire and woke up in her pajamas and bare feet in front of Alex’s bookstore. She had never sleepwalked before, so she was alarmed. She hurried home and started breakfast, then told Voodoo what happened when he came downstairs. She was ravenously hungry, as if she had expended lots of magic energy.
Allegra and Voodoo went to see Trixie, another witch, and she said they needed to do a cleaning in a natural body of water to rid Allegra of the evil from the grimoire, so they chose a pond outside of town. But things turn from bad to worse when a body turns up in the pond! Allegra recognizes the dead man as Tim, remembering the fight with Jim in the tavern. With the sleepwalking problem and not remembering, Allegra becomes concerned that she could have harmed Tim during her sleepwalking episode! How has the grimoire affected her? For what purpose? Can Alex, Voodoo, and Allegra find the killer?
This was a cute cozy mystery with a well-paced story line that holds the reader’s attention. The characters are described well and are very likable. Grab your copy and try to figure out the solution to the mystery!
I just can't get enough of Allegra. I could of stayed up all night reading this book; it's just as good as the first one, but I made myself space it out. I love the different kind of demon creatures that the author Sara B. offers in the story. Another good Allegra Mystery with a twist. Can't wait for the next one.
You would think that running an ice cream shop inherited from her uncle would keep a gal from trouble. Not Allegra. Dating Alex the Hunter also gets her killing and burying a child eating dark fae before getting cheese and waffle fries at the local watering hole.
A book Alex found in a nearby farm turns out to be a dark grimoire, and even limited contact seems to be causing Allegra some trouble.
Throw in a seemingly boring guy who angers the wrong folk in a lethal way, and some serious small town magic, murder and mayhem is afoot.
Twisted entities entwined with loyal friends.
An addictive read that’s part of a series that draws you in. Fun as a stand-alone- but why stop at one?

I absolutely loved the next installment of the Allegra Darling series... Allegra and Alex have teamed up to rid the world of dark magic and corn wolves...corn wolves? Yep...I said corn wolves...although it is only one wolf... Alex found a book in an old abandon building and he shows it to Allegra...but something happens...what you ask? You will have to read the book to find out! And can we talk about the ending???!!! I really want the next book because I need to know what happens....it just left us hanging...
Thank you to Sara Bourgeois for allowing me to read a digital ARC of her book This is my honest review...how could it not be honest... Highly recommend this if you love witches and cozy mysteries
I'm afraid that I still can't like the FMC, she's still cold and slightly arrogant , and the story just didn't mesh. The two different storylines were fighting for prominence and I would have been happier if just one had been concentrates on. As it was it seemed not to give enough time for either. The rest of the characters are just a bit too much but not enough to be quirky and zany but more than enough not to be normal. Plus her familiar, although sweet, could have a bit more personality.
Allegra and Alex seems to be hitting things off with their relationship. Allegra's business is sustaining itself and she's becoming a member of the community. This book is filled with murder, intrigue, and a bit of suspense. This series is going to be very enjoyable as we continue on this journey with Allegra.

Although I do like this series in the main, this particular book seems a bit all over the place. I like the introduction of Alex including Allegra more into his life and work and having them work together. The black grimoire adds the touch of malevolence and mystery that spices up the book, but somehow, the murder is not tied in as neatly as it should have been. Perhaps the author could have developed Fiona and her gripes a bit more. But all in all, still a fun read.
Whew Allegra is one strong woman. Learning to use your witch powers is never easy. Voodoo steals the show; he is the funniest dog I have the pleasure of reading about in a long time. White magic or dark magic which will it be? You will have to read the book to learn what Allegra and Voodoo are up to. Definitely a book to add to your TBR pile.
ARC review I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. This is a story of Alex a hunter boyfriend to allegra who has a femilier names voodoo and they are on a case to solve who killed tim graves . Awesome story love theses stories.
Allegra already lost 2 men in her life. Alex is so sweet and takes her on his hunter exploits. The witches other than Trixie have not exactly been welcoming. Voodoo cannot protect her by himself especially now that she is sleepwalking.
