Cursed Land is heavily based on the Amityville Horror crime and legend, so how much you like this might depend on how much you liked that. That said, I love a good haunted house story, so I ate this one up. I also loved the art in the first two segments and thought it fit the story perfectly. Unfortunately, a different artist illustrated Part 3, the concluding segment, and the difference was jarring. The new art wasn't bad, but I didn't like it nearly as much as the original illustrations, and it dampened the impact of the finale somewhat. The ending also felt a bit rushed, but that could be just me, as I find myself feeling that way about comics quite often.
My copy of Cursed Land also included the additional story, Night Screams for Mercy, a giallo-inspired tale. I love gialli as much as love haunted house stories, so this was a neat treat for me. The rich colors of the art fit the story perfectly. While the solution to the mystery was a little out there (and also somehow predictable), if you're a giallo fan, you'll know that's pretty par for the course, so it was actually quite fitting.
I definitely recommend this two for one deal. Both stories are entertaining, fast reads. I only wish the art for Cursed Land's finale had held up with all the rest of it.
This wasn't bad, but really, it seemed like there just wasn't much to it. It's somewhat based on The Amityville Horror story, and really it did have the feel of a B movie, but overall it was a little predictable and I found the ending flat. It was still a decent horror read, but no new ground was broken here.
This was decent and I liked how the story repeated itself in a way, but I also feel like it all happened a bit fast. I wanted there to be more of a rising action into the climax. And then once we hit said climax, there wasn’t much of an ending, per se. I’m glad I finally read this, though, and I think I would check out something else from this author.
I enjoyed it quite a bit. The plots overall have been done before, but they were different enough to still be interesting. The artwork was very nice and I loved the use of darkness in some of the scenes to create a noire feeling to them
