Rayne and Julia’s book is long awaited and worth every second of the nail biting . Excellent series addition.

Rayne has always had problems with his control, of his need for Julia more than anything, to him she’s perfect ,a pure diamond, something he can only dream of and aspire to be part of her life .
His other problem is he will never be the person she deserves, his needs are dark , his heart is not capable of love and he has nothing to offer her.

Julia just wants him , no if , no buts , no money , property just him and his heart forever.
Simple? Never.

Buckle up this is one heck of a ride to discovery for these two , full of great dialogue and wonderful situations.
Excellent book

4.5 rounded to 5

This was my first book by this author. I haven't read the first two books in the series, but I did buy them. If I find a lot of their beginning story is found in either of those books I will add a note here. This book can be read as a standalone but I do feel like it would be better reading this in order. The characters from the previous books know or are related to these main characters and there is plenty of history going on that you don't get the full information for reading this book. Enough is given that you aren't lost, and it doesn't feel like you're reading a mini book within a book with the background, but still it would probably be helpful.

The book starts with our hero, Rayne, attending his sister's wedding. His sister is marrying the heroine, Julia's, brother. You find out that they have a history, a kiss, that has ended badly. Rayne left the scene and goes to live in America. He's been gone for two years and has returned to see his sister settled and finish his affairs before returning to America.

Julia has tried to heal her heart after Rayne broke it into pieces. Yet she has never forgotten him or searched elsewhere for love. The book doesn't really have an enemies to lovers feel like you would think though. She decides she wants him. She makes a plan with a mutual friend to abduct him.

This book is a little dark. The hero does brood, he has issues, dark desires and he doesn't want to pull Julia into his life but he struggles keeping away from her. There's a lot of internal thinking, which I do like, I feel like it really lets me know the characters more and what they are feeling. I would have liked a bit more dialogue in the book because I really like that too.

The SEX!
I will say right now I don't think this book is for everyone. The first pleasure scene you get is pages long, detailed, and honestly it went a little further than I'm used in HR. AND I LOVED IT. Hahaha. Then you get some scenes that were skimmed over and not going to lie, I was quite offended after that first wonderful scene. Just kidding, mostly. You get another scene later that does cross into a very small amount spanking and being tied. The scene was well done though, and it was just once. It's not really my thing, but I enjoyed that as well. I have asked if most of her books take this route, and I don't think it's the usual? I plan on reading book 1 soon, so I'm curious. It might just be Rayne that wants these things. Anyway, for this book, it was a bit of a step away from your normal HR.

Finally, you have a hero with a beard!!! I was so annoyed looking at the cover picture when it kept describing his rugged look and his beard. But he does shave it off later, so I guess that's excusable for a cover picture.

I was able to receive an ARC copy complimentary from netgalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I cannot express how much I enjoyed this book. Ms. LaCapra's writing is compelling, vibrant, and infused with heart-jerking tender moments. I was hooked the instance I met Rayne. He is such a compelling guy, tortured by the way he had treated Julia in the past and hungry to atone while shying from the constant desire he had for her. Rayne had complex layers and beguiling depth to his character, and Julia was the same with her strengths, vulnerabilities, and the love she still possessed for our hero. I loved them, and each time they graced the pages together, I happily sighed. It was lovely watching them rediscover each other and the burning passion which had never left.

From the first page, Diamon in the Rogue will captivate you! It is sensual, lush, beautifully romantic, and I recommend it!

My reviews are honest & they contain spoilers. For more, follow me:

Diamond in the Rogue by Wendy LaCapra is the third installment of her Lords of Chance series and it was amazing! Yes I’ll go ahead and say it the first thing. I’ve been going through some rough patches in my personal life for the past few months and needed a distraction badly. This book gave me that and more. I’ve been a fan of this series since it began and the installments never ceased to amaze me in the least. I always applaud Wendy’s writing style and her lovely narratives that hook you right into the story. But this book was just chock full of surprises I didn’t see coming. In retrospect, I should’ve expected at least some of them.

Lords of Chance is a Regency set series with 3 peers of the realm, who are also old friends, as the center of the storyline. They go by sobriquet taken from the game of card—Spades, Clubs and Diamonds. Lord Markham came as the extra addition to the group; as Hearts to complete the circle. He’s also the youngest and often jokingly called as the ‘pup’. But unknowing to him, in the beginning of the series he was being groomed by our Spades for an ultimate purpose. No, nothing nefarious but that didn’t mean it was any less important to Spades’ own existence.

In his story, in book 1 Scandal in Spades, we found Giles Langley the Marquess of Bromton, in a dilemma. A big one TBH. He had a very serious family issue that he needed to take care of. It involved the survival of the Bromley bloodline and Giles was ‘trained’ to become someone who’d do anything in his power to keep that bloodline flowing to the next generation. But there was a dark twist in his story which led him to find a proper (or improper, didn’t matter) solution to his aforementioned dilemma. And that’s how Markham came into the picture. Help came in the form of Markham’s elder sister Katherine, the scandalous spinster who made the Regency ‘headlines’ a few times in her life; not because she wanted to make any headline, but because she seemed to had bad lucks where Beaus and fiancés were concerned. But her meeting to Giles was the thing of magic; full of spark and chemistry that both felt and were unable to deny. Both were scared to fall but fall they did despite everything. I love LOVED that book.

I didn’t think that Markham would have his own story so soon. But he did in book 2, Heart's Desire. We met him as the rake he was, even though he wasn’t a heartless rake (no pun intended). The initial meddling from his former lovers aside, the story was pretty good. Clarissa Laithe, who is also the sister of Diamonds, Lord Rayne, was previously engaged to Giles. But since he married Katharine and now living happily in marital bliss and Clarissa was never really in love with him, things seemed to have been resolved all around. But Giles’s marriage could’ve been ruined if Rayne wasn’t being an a$$ in book 1. He did something that led him to finally leave England in a hurry, leaving poor Julia, Katharine and Markham’s youngest sister, with a broken heart. I’ll talk about that in a bit.

In any case, Clarissa, whose upbringing was as devoid of any emotional attachment as it was Rayne’s, finally began noticing and TBH, envying the sibling affection that the Stanleys (Katharine, Markham and Julia) shared. Yet she didn’t really wanted to be associated with Markham due to his rakish reputation, even if she felt the attraction when they were finally forced to spend more time together in the guise of a courting couple. Surprisingly we learned that even if he was a rake and a happy-go-lucky one, Markham actually possessed a heart that wanted to be loved and he was looking for the proverbial The One. He’d sort of felt it could be Clarissa. He’d long admired her from afar. However, at that time she was engaged to Giles. Even if she’s now single, Markham gathered she may not really be interested in him. But their situation would sort itself out while they began discovering one surprising truth after another about themselves and their swiftly, but surely, budding relationship. Whereas Markham, aka Percy, didn’t think Clarissa would really spare a moment of her time for him, he found that she wanted all that and more. For him. With him. Personally, I had some issues in the beginning of the story but I too swiftly fell in love with this couple and their quickly growing chemistry.

There’s a novella after book 2, which is the story of one of Markham’s ex-lovers, a widow. I erringly read that before his story, a mistake you shouldn’t be making if you like your series read in order. I didn’t even know the h of the story, let alone the H and I’d rather not read about hero’s past indiscretions and the willing perpetrators, so that novella was kind of a big ‘nope’ for me. This widow was also present in Markham’s book and one of those ‘meddlers’ I mentioned previously. I personally didn’t care for her or her meddling but you may not feel the way I did so feel free to give it a try.

From the previous books of the series, I had very little to form opinions about Rayne and Julia. Hell I didn’t even remember his name was Graham since he’d always been called ‘Rayne’. He was a broody, moody rake that most mamas would ask their debutante daughters to avoid, all the while hoping he’d choose one of them cause he’s also the sole heir to the Rayne earldom. Julia was a secondary character who seemed too young and immature. She didn’t make her debut yet when Rayne spilled the tea about Giles’s secret reason to marry Katharine, making sure Katharine was present to hear of it. Even if Rayne knew Giles and Katharine were already in love by then. He was just angry that Giles broke his promise to marry Clarissa. Frankly I wasn’t sure why he was THAT mad cause no hearts were broken in the process. Except for Katharine’s. Of course, how can you not be shocked and shaken to your core after learning that he man you’re madly in love with married you just to save his bloodline, all the while seemingly lying to you about his feelings? On top of that Rayne went and kissed Julia, who had been mooning over him ever since they formally met. It wasn’t a match and Rayne was just being mean. When they got caught, Rayne only mocked Julia’s very innocent declaration of love, making sure she knew she meant nothing to him. It was such a horrible, horrible mess! TBH, after all that I myself wasn’t sure if theirs would be a good match. You may kiss a stranger and get caught and may even suffer the consequences but who goes and says ‘but I love him’?!

The basis of Rayne and Julia’s relationship had always seemed a little vague to me. Or maybe it was so simple that it looked complicated. I knew Rayne even broodier than Bromton. Definitely more than Farring and Markham. He could be too straightforward and cut you as if it didn’t matter to him. Much of his background was discussed in Clarissa’s story, so when you read about his upbringing it’s quite clear that emotional attachment to another human being was not his forte. His mother died young, his father was an a$$ himself who never cared one whit for his children, let alone showing any affection. So he grew up thinking he’d be just another copycat of his father and make life miserable for his own wife and children. He had issues connecting even with Clarissa as the siblings didn’t make a show of their affection, though later, more than once, it was proven otherwise.

Since he’d grown up thinking he’s only bound for a miserable existence, Rayne couldn’t imagine a life full of happiness but Julia somehow instinctively noticed that and sought to change it promptly in all her naïve glory. She was still a bit too young for my liking and had an innocent view of the world. The crazy attraction she felt for Rayne the moment they met soon transformed into something quite deep. But things have changed for them in the intervening 2 yrs. since Rayne fled England for America. He returns in book 2 so he can be a part of Clarissa’s wedding to Markham. By that time, Rayne had figured out that he’d made a grave mistake. Quite a few mistakes actually that he needed to amend. Julia, on her part, learned that life sometimes isn’t the happiest of places but you live and learn and move on with it. Even if you think love will never come your way since the only person you ever wanted doesn’t want you back. With Rayne’s return it seemed like neither moved on, yet both waiting for the other to take the first step. Of course Rayne also realized he should be the one but frankly, he was ashamed of what he’d done. His sojourn to America had been one of soul-searching.

Rayne’s return will eventually lead to his self-reflection about the whole messy affair since he’d never been able to forget Julia. He knew he will have to apologize to her at the very least if he’s to have any peace of mind. But could marriage even be a ‘thing’ between them? He knew she was too innocent and he didn’t want to ruin her reputation. Oh but if only he knew the real Julia who seemed to believe in ‘seize the day’ better than anybody else. ;) Throw in a kind of silly, quite hastily made (or maybe not, thanks to the ever-meddling Farring’s help) ‘kidnapping’ plot and off we go on a grand adventure that neither of them had seen coming, let alone me, the poor reader. LOL

Julia was, quite frankly, frustrated with Rayne being so wishy-washy about their ‘thing’. God knew the chemistry they shared wasn’t a fluke. It was still there, burning steadily. Even more so now that she’d grown up and he looks all rough and rowdy, just the way she liked him. :P She wanted to avoid him but when she saw him again, she knew it won’t work. As long as Rayne was here, she’d always feel the ‘itch’ to jump him. There was no ‘getting rid of it’. Only she didn’t know how to go about it to convince him that she’s THE ONE for him, and no other, as he’d been for her for years. Farring’s encouragement was all she needed to jump on board that mad scheme. It was now or never because Rayne was determined to leave England for good, if the steps he’d taken to either sell or close down his estates were of any indication.

I’ll also tell you that this book was a hoot, especially from the moment Rayne found out what Julia was up to. By that it was a bit too late to send her back as he was well on his way to another estate, so he was stuck with her. And that was all Julia needed to ‘execute her plans’. But what plan? She had no earthly idea what she would (or could) do to convince him that she’s the one. Even if she had some vague idea about sex, she couldn’t even think of any steps beyond kissing. Oh boy! :P She had instincts aplenty if her private thoughts about Rayne’s attractive physical stature were of any indication, but will that even do anything to a seasoned Rake? *facepalm* I was laughing through all of their banters and Julia’s monologues about Rayne (or the circumference of Rayne’s thighs). Bwahaha

And from Rayne’s monologue you get to know another thing why he didn’t want to ruin Julia’s reputation. He, kind of, had a very adventurous sex life in the past (not mentioned in any previous installment) and he couldn’t quite see Julia fitting into that lifestyle. Ok, he was into bondage and he thought he’d debase Julia if he was to ever initiate her into that. Boy was he wrong in his assessment! Julia would try anything at least once, not only because it was Rayne but because she was just like that. She was with the right man, a man she loves and adores; a man who excites her to no end. That figured out, Rayne kind of gave in cause there was nothing holding him back. Chemistry between them was off the charts and I absolutely loved Rayne’s grumpy, growly side that Julia totally didn’t mind being acquainted with. :D She also discovered that she didn't mind being bound by Rayne in every sense of the word. In the end, them being together just felt completely natural to me.

I can’t stress how much Julia surprised me over and over again with her determination to have Rayne and I absolutely loved that about her. She was a woman who knew her own mind and never wavered; her will made even stronger by Rayne’s own admission of wanting her even if he wasn’t about to do anything about it. Some may call her rash, immature—even I thought that in the beginning— and the whole scheme quite idiotic even if Farring’s part in it made things smoother for her. But I had way too much fun while reading the whole shenanigan.

Needless to say, Diamond in the Rogue will be my other favorite of this series alongside Scandal in Spades. 4.5 stars and highly recommended, though I’d strongly suggest you read the series in order. Now I’m eagerly awaiting Farring’s story. Poor dawg has some issues going on in his own love life that badly needs someone else’s intervention, and I’m not even sure he’s going in the right direction. Would be fun to find out what happens next.

Graham Laithe, Earl of Rayne is back from New York to give his sister Clarissa away in marriage to Lord Markham. He has been gone for a year and a half, but has no intentions of staying, he just wants to take care of estate details and return to America. He left suddenly and under a cloud, his long friendships with Markham and Bromton seemly over and his relationship with Farring strained. But the thing that truly haunts him and has kept him away is Markham’s sister, Lady Julia Stanley. The woman who declared she loved him and whose kiss changed him - the woman he can never have.

Julia had worked hard to put her broken heart back together and to forget Rayne, but now he is back and all those feelings come rushing back. But it is clear he doesn’t want her – or does he? With a little meddling by Farring and a bit of daring by Julia, she will find out one way or the other if there is a future for them.

Farring wheedles Rayne into delivering the carriage to his step-grandmother, the dowager duchess, at her estate – Periwinkle Gate and while he would rather not, Farring is the only one of his friends who hasn’t turned on him and besides, he really likes the dowager duchess. He agrees and sets off. But Farring isn’t done – he convinces Julia to tag along – disguised as a footman. He tells her that Rayne has feelings for her, but doesn’t feel worthy, if Julia loves him, as Farring believes she does, she needs to go with him and convince him that their love is worth fighting for.

All goes well at first, but when weather turns bad and Julia is discovered sooner than she hoped, Rayne has to decide – keep her with him or send her home. She tells him that she is going to Scotland to elope and gives him the first name that pops in her head – Viscount Belhaven, her former governess’s lost love. Rayne is gentle with Julia that first night, caring for her and making sure she is warmed. He agrees to take her with him to Periwinkle Gate and hopes that he can keep his feelings for her in check. For her part, Julia wants Rayne, she has always wanted Rayne, but as an innocent, she is not prepared for his raw sexuality and is a little frighten by the feelings he invokes in her. But, as they travel, she becomes convinced that they are meant to be, but is having a hard time convincing Rayne.

Finally, they reach Periwinkle Gate and finally they give into the sexual tension that has been simmering between them and Rayne asks her to marry him – YES! They set out for Gretna Green, but before they even wed, her lies are revealed and Rayne begins to close himself off from her. And when her family finally catches up with them, it seems like their HEA will be over before it even begins.

This was a well written, complex story of second chances. Rayne is a tortured soul with a tendency to brood, while Julia is a happy soul with a knack for seeing the bright side. They are proof that opposites attract and have the potential to have soulmate type love story – that is if Rayne can get out of his own way and Julia doesn’t give up. I really enjoyed this story, it was a bit heavier than I expected, but not depressing or dark and I did feel like Rayne’s poor self-worth issues dragged a little too long, but in the end, I was happy with the outcome, liked the characters, delighted in the steamy love scenes and I am now even more anxious to read Farring’s story than I was before!! This is the third book in the series and while it could be read as a stand-alone, this is an interconnected series and for maximum enjoyment and character understanding, I would recommend reading the books in order.

My review :

Will they be able to mend the rift left after their years apart or will pride cost them all ...

Mrs Wendy LaCapra has a wide palette with which she paints complex characters with many layers.
From Rayne to Julia, none is easy to comprehend fully at first glance. Themselves are ambivalent about their own desires. One moment they doom the other to hell, and the following minute they want to hold tight the second.
Julia was very young when she first was attracted to Rayne, then he left. But since, never a man was able to rise her interest like he.
But when they meet again, she herself is unable to decide if she wants him in the lions’ den or to embrace her.
Rayne knows he has reacted under anger, why he left with no wish to return.
But for his sister’s weeding he is back, and ready to apologize before his definitive departure.
It was without counting on the meddling influence of his only remaining friend.
Their relationship is like oil and water, when in closed space, all their discussions turn to a battle field and up to them to mend fences.
There is no doubts, except for them about their feelings but they keep so many things unsaid or under strict contrôle, their trust is not easily won.
Rayne seing himself as unworthy of Julia is their biggest challenge, while he lusts after her, he thinks of little else, therefore when the passion quiets a little, he is unable to see the end of the tunnel.

My only complain is I would have liked a bit more details about their past issues as they are what shaped them. All along the story, I grabbed the main for Julia, still I did not really captured Rayne’s so intense dislike of his childhood home.
Why I felt I missed something about Rayne’s anger and Julia’s nightmares.
I do not know if it is because I haven’t read the first book in this series.

Yet, Mrs LaCapra delivered a touching tale of the damages miscommunications and distrust can bring, and sometime you must overstep society’s bounds to go after what you hold dear in your heart.

« “Anything worth having is worth some inconvenience.” »

As it may prove, only a little boost might help reveal what was hidden deep in one’s heart.

« You aren’t a battle I’m going to win. “What am I, then?” “You’re the life I choose to live.” »

4.5 stars for this se and chance tale.

This is the third book in this delightful series, it could easily be read on its own but to fully appreciate it I’d recommend reading the series in order. The book was well written & flowed really well. I really liked both Graham & Julia although they both did annoy me at times. I loved the verbal banter between the pair & their attraction sizzled. The road to their HEA was strewn with obstacles but it made for a very satisfying, enjoyable read & I look forward to Farring's story

This has been a good series so far and the author didn't disappoint with this addition. The characters are charming and the storyline is developed. It was fast-paced and easy to read. I have enjoyed the entire series and can't wait to see what the author has in mind for us next.

I might have appreciated this better had I read the first two books. Even though it can be read as a standalone, I was confused and couldn't appreciate the chemistry or tension between Rayne and Julia. I also struggled with the writing style...a lot of telling and ramblings, and I kept feeling as if it would get THERE - to the point I would appreciate - but it was almost as if I was climbing a hill without ever reaching the pinnacle. I got tired of waiting.

While I wanted to like it, I felt more bereft and in the end, it left me dissatisfied and soon, bored.

Plenty of reviewers and authors I like have praised this author, but perhaps her writing style and characters aren't just for me. So clearly it's a ME problem, not you or anyone else's.

In a bid to get revenge on his friend for breaking off his betrothal to his sister, Graham Laithe, the Earl of Rayne, kissed Lady Julia Stanley and then promptly took himself off to America. After two years, he's temporarily returned for his sister's wedding to Julia's brother. He regrets nothing when it comes to Julia, but believes he could never be good enough for her. For her part, Julia has known Rayne was the one for her since they first met. But her brother objects, so in order to get her way, Julia sneaks onto Rayne's carriage with the intent of guiding him toward a Gretna elopement, though she might've underestimated the strength of Rayne's willpower and the depth of his pain.

I read and enjoyed the previous book in this series and was eager to finally learn what the deal really was with Rayne, but this one left me rather confused and I still feel like I'm missing something. I'm thinking that must be because I haven't yet read the first book so I felt like I was a step behind trying to figure out exactly what was so bad that it necessitated Rayne leaving. I also wasn't ever really clear on the issues Julia and Rayne both had from their childhoods and the reasons they gave here left me once again feeling like I'd missed something. I also wish Julia had referred to Rayne by his first name some, just to be cohesive with how the other ladies referred to their husbands, though this is also just because I love the name Graham.

Nonetheless, I really enjoyed this story and I loved the one-on-one road travel and one room, one bed scenes. These two were lovely together and both showed a great deal of growth in a short time. It was great to see them both choose each other despite any uncomfortable situations that meant facing and in the face of nay-saying family and friends. I really need to go back and read that first book but I'm looking forward to Farring's book now.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book was received from the Author, and Publisher, in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own

Graham Laithe, is the Earl of Rayne and has recently returned to England just in time for his sister’s wedding. Rayne, been gone from his home in England for two years.

His objective is to give his sister away in marriage and settle his affairs before returning to America. The two years away have been difficult and hard on him.

Rayne’s bsence was caused by eventual act that almost ruined lady Julia and sent him packing to the America.

Head strong, delightful Lady Julia has given up on love, she gave her heart away, and look what happened . Still reveling over her almost disastrous ruination. Oh, but that memorable kiss. A Swoon worthy read, that grabbed my complete attention all the way through!

Stellar heart racing, truly romantic moments, There is plenty of passion, heartbreak, doubt, romance and some interesting, well developed secondary characters. Readers who enjoy a character driven romance will find this a story well worth reading.

Diamond in the Rogue is book 3 in the Lords of Chance series by Wendy LaCapra. I have truly enjoyed each book in this series. They are not stand alones. You must read each one in order, because they are all connected. Each story is based on a different member of the rakish quartet of friends - Spades, Clubs, Diamonds and Hearts. This book is about The Earl of Rayne - Diamonds. He and Julia’s story actually begin in book 2. After a misstep, Rayne flees for two years to America. This story picks up just as he returns to England for the wedding of his sister. “Rayne had been gone for almost two years - two years that hadn’t been easy on him, if she were to guess by his weathered skin and bearded cheek However, his gain - the alluring, unintentional swagger all his own - had enhanced. And those bright, singularly captivating blue eyes hadn’t altered one bit. They still weakened her knees and heightened her senses, leaving her watchful. Expectant.” LaCapra writes such a depth into each character. No one is simple. No one can be overlooked. There are a number of steamy sex scenes in this book and even one that is “erotic”. I am glad I stumbled across her work. I am looking forward to more.

"He wanted to kiss her again, more than a starving man wanted food. He wanted to stoke all his latent cravings, be consumed by them, and then be remade into something new that was hers and hers alone. For the first time since he'd returned, he sensed a home." But Lord Rayne knew he was not good enought for Lady Julia, a true diamond and it could not control himself around her for long
What he did not expect was the determination of a woman in love and that was Julia in spades (well in a diamond, which was his moniker of his four friends). She knew they were meant to be and she will almost stop at nothing... dressing as a lad, stowing away or whatever it took.
Wonderful, that is the word for this exciting journey for these two, who cannot deny the spark that ignites between them. The banter back and forth and the situation they find themselves in is priceless. Wendy LaCapra at her best with her amazing storytelling and creation of characters you cannot help but love as they melt your heart....

Oh my goodness! What to say? Yet again another of Wendy LaCapra's spellbinding, emotion-filled and gloriously laid out stories. I just want to keep using exclamation marks!!

This is the third in the Lords of Chance series, each book based on one of the Earl's rakish friends - Spades, Clubs, Diamonds and Hearts. The primary characters in this book being the Earl of Rayne and Lady Julia, who we met briefly previously in another book. What a pair they are! As a couple filled with history to overcome, flashy temperaments, dare I say, deep love? and some seriously flaming chemistry leading to smokin' hot sex! {gasp!}😉 Whether they can say what needs saying remains to be seen.

I so adored reading this book cover to cover and I'm sure you will feel that way too. It's perfect for lovers of historical romance series that are filled with heat and humor so well written that you cannot bear to put it down.

It has been two years since Lady Julia has seen Lord Rayne...and the chemistry and passion she feels for him is still there. A friend talks her into a wild adventure where she poses as a servant and kidnaps Rayne so that she can discover how he really feels about her. This steamy romance novel is part of The Lords of Chance series, and although it sort of works as a stand alone, my gut tells me it is better read as part of the series. There are many layers to both Julia and Rayne - much of which is discussed in a previous book or books so I was missing a few pieces of the puzzle. Overall, a spicy romance novel between two enjoyable, independent characters !!

This novel continues with Lord Rayne and Lady Julia, whom have not seen each other in two years after their kiss. Rayne was seeking revenge and used Julia to do it, but Julia wanted Rayne and even declared her love. Julia and Rayne’s feelings for each other strengthened without them realizing it, for when they see each other again, sparks fly but Julia was hurt deeply. With some interference from a mutual friend, they find themselves traveling together towards the Scottish border. The temptations are there and neither can deny the pull they feel towards each other. While Julia has already admitted her love for Rayne, will he be able to do the same for Julia? Will the past interfere with the future they can have?

This was an enthralling read. Julia was certainly up for a challenge and was determined to for Rayne to come to terms with his feelings. Rayne was a complex character, he had been quite the rogue but he was also lost soul. He felt he was distant from his friends and didn’t know how to bridge the gap. Rayne had always liked Julia but felt he wasn’t good enough. This was a good paced, entertaining read. It will be good to read of his friend Farring in the next book. I received a copy and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Ooooh I loved this one! Lord Rayne had malicious intent when he first kisses Lady Julia. Their chemistry was palpable - even back in the staid period they were in. The complex path to their romance was such a fun one. I loved all the supporting characters and the non-traditional path they helped them find on their way to true love. This was my first read from this author but it definitely won't be my last.

I received an arc of this book.

3.5 stars.

This is why I prefer to read series in order. Jumping into this one, I had a lot of trouble following the relationships and back history of the characters and their friends/family. While the majority of the book was easy enough to follow, certain specific details relating to previous plot events were confusing. This isn't a factor in my overall rating, however. Just a note that this book is best read in order and NOT as a stand-alone.

The plot was silly and ridiculous, but the kind of ridiculous that put a goofy smile on my face. The interactions between the h and H were sweet and amusing and gave me some serious Tessa Dare vibes--the good kind. I did get a little tired of the H's angst, especially towards the end when he nearly pulled the Noble Idiot move (don't do this, fellas! seriously!!!), but the h's persistent optimism and refusal to give up on him made it tolerable.

Also, will Farring get his own book? If so, sign me up!!!

I recieved a free copy from netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this book.
Rayne and Julia were definitely an interesting pair. Although this can be read as a stand alone I do think reading the previous books in the series are helpful.
After being caught in a kiss with Julia, Rayne left for new york. Alone at his sisters wedding, with only Farring still his friend Rayne planssl to leave immediately after the wedding.
Julia is determined to have her love and plans to abduct Rayne so he has no option but to marry her.
I liked the realtionship between Rayne and Julia. Julia was a fun character.

Graham, the Earl of Rayne, in an act of revenge, kissed Lady Julia.
Nineteen months later, he's back in England from a stint in America and sees Julia again.
Julia is no longer there the naive girls she was almost two years ago.

Graham "Rayne" feels like he will be like his miserly father and spent the time in America rebuilding his character.
Will he stay this time around?

I just love Wendy LaCapra's work, she is a fine storyteller with a lovely style. She creates very believable characters that carry the story along nicely.

This series 'Lords of Chance' follows a group of friends, each nicknamed after a suit of cards. This is the third book in the series and is every bit as good as the first two - "Scandal in Spades" and "Heart's Desire".
To fully enjoy the plot of this book I recommend reading the series in order.

The 'hero' Rayne (Diamonds) has many emotional problems stemming from his childhood resulting in him having a dislike for the family estate and not feeling particularly close to anyone - not his sister nor his friends, he is the stereotypical lost soul.
The 'heroine' is Julia, sister-in-law of Spades and sister of Hearts. She has admired Diamonds ever since she first met him, and although Rayne pretends otherwise, she affects him too.
In Book 1 Julia manages to get Rayne, against his better judgment, to give Julia her first kiss. Then there is some 'falling out’ (Book1), words being said that cannot be unsaid culminating with Rayne promptly leaving for America. Leaving behind his sister to fend for herself as both their parents are dead and also leaving a very upset and confused Julia.

This book begins two years later when Rayne returns for the wedding of his sister whose romance developed in Book 2. At the wedding and reception Rayne tries to remain in the shadows away from his former friends - speaking only with Clubs. He also stays away from Julia although they do exchange glances etc. He realises that the two years he has spent in America have not helped him forget Julia or get her 'out of his system'. During the time Rayne has been away Julia has taken the ton by storm and although flirting with many young men she has found no one to ‘measure up’ to Rayne. So although pretending otherwise, she has never forgotten Rayne.
Upon seeing Rayne again Julia realises that she still wants only Rayne - she doesn't care about his title, his estates, his wealth or the upset he previously caused. She just knows they are meant to be together. To this end, with the help of some subterfuge by Clubs, she dresses as a footman and jumps on the back of Rayne's departing carriage hoping to compromise them both so thoroughly that Rayne has no option but to offer marriage. However, Rayne thinks Julia deserves a much better suitor than himself and therefore proves himself rather good at resisting her and temptation.
The dialogue and verbal banter between Rayne and Julia are very amusing and their obvious attraction to one another crackles.

A very enjoyable, well written book - highly recommended!

My honest review for an eARC that was provided to me by NetGalley and the publisher.

Diamond in the Rogue is the third book in author Wendy LaCapra’s Lords of Chance series. For those of us following this series, Rayne’s story was heavily anticipated and it most definitely did not disappoint! A fabulous read and an excellent addition to this series!

Graham Laithe the Earl of Rayne is back! After two years of exile in America, he’s back to see his sister married and to settle his estate. He has no plans to stay and is itching to leave permanently.

Lady Julia’s childhood made her lose faith in love. Then Rayne entered her life.  Thinking herself in love and one forbidden kiss between them, she’s devastated when Rayne walks out of her life.

Oh my, what an absolutely fabulous story and couple! For those of us who have been with this series from the beginning, we’ve already met Julia and Rayne. Both characters have made appearances in the previous stories. Although I believe you could read this story as a stand-alone, I highly recommend you read the previous books to understand the history between all the characters.

I loved Rayne! He’s definitely a tortured hero. He wants Julia but feels he’s not good enough for her and has nothing to give her. His feelings for her are real and you sense the struggle within him wanting her but yet continually trying to resist her. You also see how the loss of his friends truly affected him and how he feels like an outsider. He was definitely a hero I wanted to see finally get his HEA and I loved him with Julia. The chemistry and dialogue between these two was fabulous! Julia was absolutely perfect for him and the more I got to know her the more I liked her. Julia is a kind, clever and insightful young woman. She was hurt by Rayne’s departure two years ago and is scared to be hurt again. When Lord Farring a mutual friend suggests she take steps to prevent Rayne from leaving again, she decides to take one more chance!

Ms. LaCapra wrote a fabulous story for this couple and I absolutely loved the journey she took us on to get to this couple’s well deserved HEA! I enjoyed seeing characters from the past books and look forward to the next book in this series. I can’t wait to get Lord Farring’s story and catch up with the rest of the Lords of Chance! This has been a fabulous series so far and one I highly recommend!

I was so very excited to read this book for a couple of reasons; first- the author herself asked me to read and review this book (yes I totally fan girled over that), second- I really enjoyed the previous book in the series and couldn’t wait to see what the author had instore for this next book, and third- once I discovered this was Rayne and Julia’s story I was beyond stoked. After meeting these two characters in the last book and the hints about what broke up a long time group of best friends and forced Clarissa’s brother Rayne to flee to America I was praying it would be a good as the last. Let me tell you all this book was better than I ever imagined! I couldn’t put it down. This book has all the things I adore: A strong and sassy leading lady, a dark and brooding hero, and some seriously steamy love scenes (please remember this is a historical romance and while most love scenes can be pretty vanilla these most definitely were not). I can honestly say this is one of my favorite books for 2019!!! I can only hope we get to see how Farring’s story plays out in the next book.

Graham Laithe, Earl of Rayne has spent the last 2 years in America working very hard to forget the biggest mistake of his life. When he is forced to return to England for his sister’s wedding and to settle his affairs, the last thing he wants is to face his once bet friends or see the one woman he can never have and the cause of all his troubles. Will he be able to successfully part ways with his sister and his life in England as he plans or will he find himself with a reason to stay?

Lady Julia Stanley has a personal rule of never making the same mistake twice. Just as she is prepared to give up on finding love of her own, she is challenged by a dear friend to break that rule. Faced with the prospect saving the only man she loves from his own self-destruction, she forms a risky plan involving disguise, kidnapping, and possibly pirates to take her own destiny in hand and fight for the love she thought was lost. Will she succeed or will all her efforts leave them both heartbroken all over again?

This seriously is one of my favorite books of 2019 and I can’t wait to see how all of you like it.

I give this book a: 7!

I enjoyed myself in the world of the Lords of Chance series. I do feel that this is a series which should be (if at all possible) read in order – and I dropped into this series with the third full-length story of Julia and Rayne. I wasn’t lost, I simply would have felt more comfortable in this world, and perhaps understood some nuances, some relationships better if I had started from the very beginning. I will definitely be catching up on the series, so that alone should tell you how much I was caught up in this world to be willing to spend time and money to discover what came before this story.

DIAMOND IN THE ROGUE is a story of determination, strong attraction, and even stronger personalities dealing with their pasts. Rayne is a complex man, one who feels deeply, is stubborn, and has the mistaken belief that he isn’t good enough for Julia. Now Julia is an innocent but a determined young lady who knows exactly what or who she wants – and that would be Rayne. Watching their journey to their happy ending with all the bumps along the road was captivating, entertaining and had me wishing I had started this series earlier. Ms. LaCapra writes a vivid story with people and events that come alive on the page, and that’s the style of writing that I can follow for a long time.

I don’t willing do spoilers, yet I believe if you love strong personalities, a very good story, likable if at times frustrating people, and a story that will hold your attention from the first page to the last – then you’ll have fun with DIAMOND IN THE ROGUE.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

This book was ok but really hard for me to rate because I haven’t read the the first two books in the “Lords of chance” series. You kind of have to have read them in order to follow the premise of this story and understand the redemption of Lord Raine and his feelings for Lady Julia.

Lord Raine kissed Lady Julia and thereafter humiliated her and her family. After this he fled to America. After two years in America he returns to see his sister get married to one of his former best friends who is also Lady Julia’s brother. Lord Raine and Lady Julia both have feelings for eachother but he doesn’t want to admit it to her because she deserves better than a destroyed man.
Somehow they both end up on a journey through England together and throughout this journey they get to really know eachother. Lady Julia figures out why Lord Raine is this closed off person and how she can help him through his heart-ships and become the the person he is really supposed to be.

I really liked their journey together and they are very sweet as a couple. But I think that Lady Julia was really gullible and naive in the beginning and suddenly she turns a 180 and become the most mature and knowing woman. It was a bit confusing.
I also really liked the estate of Periwinkle Gate and the many different people and animals that live there. It is a very special and secret place that is closed off to the “ton” and other judgemental people. It would be really great to get the story of this place and I hope we do in Lord Farrings book.

I can recommend this book if you have read the other books in this series and if you like drama, great plot lines and a very sweet lovestory with a sweet HEA.

I got this book from Entangled Publishing and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is the third book in the Lords of Chance series by Wendy LaCapra. There were things going on from the previous books that I didn't understand at first, so I'll probably go back and read those books.

In an act of revenge, Lord Rayne kissed Lady Julia and was sent packing to America. He's back to give his sister away in marriage and settle his affairs before returning to America. But when he sees Lady Julia the time and a distance apart has done nothing to dispel how he feels about her.
Lady Julia has given up on love because she'll only ever love Lord Rayne. Seeing him at her brother's wedding makes it easier for her to follow through Farring's idea and kidnap Rayne, compromising them both.

Whenever possible, put the good things about a book or author up front.
Criticize the book, not the author, if you don’t like what you’ve read. Explain why.
I really enjoyed this book. They are both in love with each other and have a hard time expressing their true feelings. And every time they talk, they seem to argue. Rayne doesn't think he is good enough to be a husband and especially not for Julia. For her, there is no one else. I enjoyed that this book moved at a quick pace. Right away there is an adventure as they travel to deliver a carriage. Finding themselves in such close quarters makes it harder to deny their feelings. The Lord and Lady also shared some steamy scenes.

I'm glad I requested this ARC from Entangled Publishing and was introduced to a new to me author. I'm looking forward to reading the other books in this series. And is Farring getting his own book?
