Man to Man: Rediscovering Masculinity in a Challenging World

Rate this book
Given the all-out assault on the American male in today’s society, Man to Man delivers biblical solutions to make American men strong again.

Masculinity in America has never been under attack the way it is today. We have reached the point where the term itself is considered toxic or offensive to many. American men are conflicted as to what their role is in society. The consistent message that has proliferated in our nation is that masculinity, by nature, is bad and is the root cause of many of the problems plaguing our society. Everything from racism to pedophilia has been blamed on “toxic masculinity.” Some colleges and universities are now offering classes on how to overcome or be delivered from this very “threatening” phenomenon called “masculinity.”

If men take up biblical mandates ordained by their Creator—no matter their color, nationality, station, upbringing, or education—a new vision can be cast and executed that will restore a civil and prosperous America for all.

Are there some true and good things in this book? Yes….ish.

But they are so clouded by “AMERICA! GUNS! MILITARY! MAN’S Man!” Stories and values that Jesus and a scripture can barely get a word in.

If I were writing a caricature of all things American evangelical civil religion- I would write this book.

Only thing is…this is written non-ironically.

I do not recommend…though could understand how some men might get an interest in Jesus through the book. Problem is…eventually they will have to reckon with the fact that Jesus is not an American patriot and didn’t have.a conceal and carry license.

Side note- the most remarkable part of this book is the story where his wife threatens a guy in a bank with a knife because he has a hat on. That is given as an example for women to stand in when men are to cowardly to protect.

Ok. I’m done here.

Provider, defender, battle-buddy, chaplain. Those are the roles a man is meant to fulfill in every stage of his life and this book offers a solid, Biblical foundation for growing in all of them. Highly recommend!

Favorite Quote: “If you are one of those fellows who would say to me ‘well I am just not much of a reader’, my response is, ‘yeah, I understand that, but you need to change and try to get into it’!”

Thank you Lt. Gen. Boykin for telling it like it is and reaching in to challenge everyone willing to listen. We as men have been either taught by or witnessed the teaching by a real mans man. May we wake up and carry the torch.
