Bitches

Rate this book
Catherine, the most powerful witch alive, knows how to look after herself. After all - she's been around for a very, very long time.

Unfortunately, something is wrong with Catherine's powers so she is forced to enlist the help of a local coven who may be able to fix her.

If that isn't bad enough, Catherine is being hunted by a puritanical witch hunter whose divine duty is to eradicate all witches from the face of the earth.

With the witch hunter closing in, time is running out for Catherine and the coven.

She's survived wars, witch trials, and a wine-free wedding, but this is shaping up to be her greatest challenge yet.

Prepare yourself for a magical tale that is (mostly) historically accurate.

This is the story of Catherine - the most powerful witch on the planet. She joins a coven in Millston, a small northern town which is the home of all the colourful characters created by this author. The story of the coven‘a battle with a powerful witch hunter is told both in real time and in flash backs to Catherine’s past and done so in the typically irreverent and tongue in cheek style of this author.

I particularly enjoyed the historical references and flash backs in this book, it gave a fresh new view to well know historic stories. But my absolute favourite bit was the origin story of how Catherine gained her power - this was super clever and funny and as with all good books left me wanting more. Super witty and funny book, I can highly recommend this read for anyone looking for some light relief. As I’ve said before, this author just keeps getting better and better.

A rather wicked bag of tricks ‘n’ feats...

Voilà! The author takes us on a magical journey via the most powerful witch in the land - Catherine. As one can imagine, a novel that spans the history of time will hold a fair few surprises. She’s rubbed shoulders with many historical figures along the way, shaping and preparing her for her biggest clash yet. Meanwhile, there may be a little more trouble brewing over at the Millston coven, where a group of local witches gather to gossip and plot.

The characters are sparkling with Northern wit, especially Catherine, who doesn’t mince her words - and all delivered with her unmistakable Northern twang.

David Richards has managed to make my life - AGAIN. Revel in this wicked witch-fest, and catch a thrill up Pendle Hill. No broomstick required - although, it’s likely to sweep you RIGHT off your feet, and in the most delightful way.

Catherine, the main character of Bitches, is one of my favourite literary characters of all time. She is powerful, funny, and unapologetically irreverent. I love her.

The main story is peppered with chapters from Catherine's long history - which also happens to be our history. They are a joy to read and had me reaching (figuratively) for Wikipedia more than once just to confirm if THAT really happened. Astoundingly, in almost all cases, it did. The historical accuracy mixed with the author's trademark humour make for a sublime read.

Once again, the main story is filled with memorable characters: A wonderfully dysfunctional coven and a deliciously well-crafted villain.

It has twists, laughs, thrills, and more than a few surprises.

Couldn't stop reading this the moment I read 'witches' and 'northern'.

Like other books by this author, I really enjoy how he creates these characters that become lovable rogues with a twist of dark humour throughout.

This book has not only taught me of historical events that I didn't know much about, but it also made me see them in a different light; and, if I had my way, would gladly accept as fact if asked about in the future.

Hoping for a sequel!
