With an evil creature killing dragons and riders alike, the False King’s reign of terror spills across the border. While the king of Osnen and the Citadel’s riders struggle to stem the assault, Eldwin flies to the Conclave to plead for help from the other schools.
Unless the schools unite and arrive in time, the world is doomed.
Richard Fierce is a fantasy author with a passion for storytelling that dates back to his childhood. He first ventured into publishing in 2007 and hasn’t looked back since. His books are filled with dragons, adventure, and the kind of epic journeys that transport readers to new worlds.
In 2000, Richard was named Poet of the Year for his poem The Darkness, and his love for literature extends beyond just writing—he co-founded the Acworth Book Festival in Georgia to help bring authors and readers together. Though he originally worked in retail, he eventually transitioned to the tech industry, balancing his career with his writing.
Richard lives in Northwest Georgia with his family and a lively mix of pets, including four dogs (huskies!). He often jokes that his house feels like a zoo, but he wouldn’t have it any other way.
His love for fantasy started in high school when he was gifted a copy of Dragons of Spring Dawning by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman—a book that sparked a lifelong love for dragons and epic quests.
Whether he’s writing about dragon riders, lost civilizations, or ancient prophecies, Richard Fierce continues to craft stories that pull readers into unforgettable adventures.
The book does a good job of expanding upon the series' lore. Additionally, it wraps up plot points nicely while setting up new ones without feeling contrived.
Just fantastic, more and more battles and dragons, Eldwin continues his training and bonding with Sion, after thinking the false king defeated years ago when his father was killed, his evil creature is killing dragons and their riders, his evil is spreading across the lands and into other borders, King Osnen and his dragon rider struggle to deal with the threat, after Maren is injured after casting an immense spell and her dragon is killed, Eldwin and Sion fly to get help from the other dragon rider schools, if the conclave can't unite the schools against this evil, it may just spell doom for them all and the world, as this series continues, it gets better with each book, Eldwin is growing into a great character, the plot is getting more interesting, highly recommend the audio for this series, very enjoyable...🐉🐲😁⚔
Eldwin has zero survival instinct and a serious lack of critical thinking skills.
Vague spoilers: The two deaths at the end of the book were 100% his fault because if he hadn't gone there on an emotional whim (as he had been told) it wouldn't have happened. He endangered everyone around him by showing up as an untrained twat. Also, how on earth do you trust every single person you meet and tell them your life story?? And then miraculously you save the day. Main boy syndrome. Very annoyed, will give the fourth book a chance but this was utterly disappointing.
Another action-packed epic, high fantasy dragon rider adventure with Eldwin and Maren. I enjoyed how the author reveals developments in the greater world and allows Eldwin to make important decisions in a very believable way, sticking to the YA feel of the story while allowing for the character to remain true to himself, and not adapt to expectations while still doing the right thing (or at least what he believes to be right). At the same time, Maren also remains true to her mischievous and rebellious self, often getting Eldwin into more trouble, but also showing that they are a fab team.
I loved the intensity and the stakes of this third book in the series. Also, although the story continues, this one has a solid ending that feels very satisfying, which I appreciate. The series is quite long, but it seems to be broken down into smaller, cohesive pieces, which is nice and inclines me more to keep going, particularly as the hints in the final chapter indicate some more awesomeness from this spunky duo and their non-conformist, rebelliousness.
I can definitely recommend this for lovers of high, epic fantasy or those of you who have a weakness for dragons. It's a fun read, for sure.
I can say this book is enjoyable. We got to go out into the world, discovering new schools and lands and defending against the threat of the necromancer. Even though we "explore" the world, we really don't explore. Sadly the weakest trait of this series is its lack of world-building. So, unfortunately, I have very little interest in the fights to come. Don't get me wrong, the different schools and land were different and had their own customs. My issue stems from the land of Osnen because I feel I still know very little about it. Speaking of not invested enough, one dragon dies during the climax. It should be an unfortunate moment, but I felt nothing. Unlike our MC and his dragon, our side character and her dragon feel undeveloped. We didn't feel we had enough time with those two to understand their bond and what they meant to each other. So the end fell flat for me, but I guess the future sounds good. I'm glad there is something to look forward to in the next book, and I am excited.

I really like this series. The books are entertaining with great characters and cool dragons. Each book is only about 115 pages but worth the price especially if you purchase the omnibus editions which breaks the series down into smaller 3 book bites.
Andrew McDermott is the narrator and his voice is phenomenal. There are lots and lots of characters in this series and he has created a "voice" for each and every one. This makes the listening a real pleasure and let's the reader know who is speaking, making the experience even better.
I just started book 4 and will continue this series until the conclusion.
More dragons! I was so excited to see more dragon, especially ones from different schools with different cultures. I really hope we continue to see more of them. On another note, even with how short these books are, with there being 14 in the series, I expected the problem with the Necromancer and the False King would last longer. It ended rather abruptly and a little anticlimactically. However, it makes me wonder what new problems will arise with so much left of the series to go.

First 2 books were a little bland. Or like… I could tell there’s stuff in the authors head that they weren’t sharing and it made it difficult for me to get involved. Book 3 got better. So I’ll keep going.
One thing that drives me nuts. I don’t know if the audiobook reader is actually Scottish, but the reading sounds like a fake accent and it’s distracting. Unfortunately for me, I bought all the books (on crazy sale) on audiobook. So if I like the story, I need to keep listening to this guy.
Another perfect result of meeting the one true love. One could wonder why a girl would immediately fall in love with someone with virtually nothing to offer other than tagging along. SHe is brave, has magic power, status, looks, and he is a good copilot so go go go? The hopping from place to place with no goal here killed it for me.
I have really really really enjoyed reading this series it is written beautifully the characters are so rich and the storylines are harrowing but they keep you on the edge of your seat and make you want to not put the book down
I liked these books (vol 1-3) very much even though they are rated YA (not a barrier for me). No sex but lots of fighting and a pretty good plot. Just be advised that these 3 "books" are really one book in three parts.
This was another great story in this fantastic series! So much happens in such short stories, and I absolutely love it! Epic and absolutely full of adventure!
This book was great. the story expands and we get more questions answered. The next book is also setup. there was one part that felt just a little anticlimactic but still hood.
Eldwin and the princess are reunited and must quickly travel to the various schools to sound the alarm about the false king and to unite the riders to stand together against him. Along the way, they meet some interesting characters, Marin is betrothed, and Eldwin discovers some deep secrets from his past as well as some new mysteries that may take him away from the dragon riders school and Marin for a second time.
I received a free audiobook from the narrator, Andrew McDermott, who was as brilliant a narrator as always. I have reviewed it willingly.
Maren and Eldwin continue to help with trying to stop the Necromancer and the False King. When they sit out to deliver messages to the schools for help, they are surprised by all the devastation that has taken place. Maren loses something very dear to her. Eldwin finds out something about his father that is quite unexpected. Their next journey will be more challenging. A great book with lots of surprising moments A real page turner.
