The Hunters #5

Redemption

Rate this book
Redemption has a high price. Sometimes, it can only be paid in blood.

Haunted by the ghosts of his past, George Mackey faces the demons of the present as he and Sharon Price struggle to keep their relationship and love intact. The saga that began in ‘Eyes of the Predator’ comes full circle, reuniting Mackey with Lyn and Clay, the characters that were at the center of events in the first book of The Hunters Series.

Enlisted by Cy Purcell to find them and thwart the kidnapping and murders of Clay and Lyn, George embarks on a hunt that calls into play all of his investigative skills and experience. His dedication and sacrifice take him down paths few others would tread.

'Redemption’ is a suspense thriller that contrasts the darkness of the human experience with the inherent goodness and light in most of humanity. Along the way, George and the other the lost souls of the story face their demons and find their redemption.

With that out of the way, let's begin.
This is the blah, blah, blah section. You know the author’s “glory page” where he gets to tell you grandiose things about himself and the deeper meaning of his work. Whatever.

I write books. Seriously, that's what I get to do every day. It's great.

I have been fortunate to author some that have achieved bestseller status, including The Hunters Series of mystery suspense thrillers. It took me a lot of years to get to that point, but I wouldn't trade any of them for a minute. I love writing books for you and the journey that brought me here.

I am a native of the south, Georgia specifically. I spent much of my life there, but I have lived in many other places as well. We moved a lot when I was young. Eventually, we ended up back in Georgia in my teens where I finished school and went to work.

I wanted to write from an early age. A really long time ago, when I was still a young police officer in Georgia, I was writing short stories in my spare time and sending them off to magazines. One day I received one back in the mail.

Life Happened

Attached to it was a nice handwritten letter from an editor (this was long before the days of email and texts). The story manuscript was folded and smudged, and there were coffee cup rings on the edges of a couple of pages, which told me they had actually read it, maybe discussed it around an editorial table, or just used it to sop up the coffee.

In her letter, the editor said a lot of things that I don't remember, but it was not the usual form letter that I was accustomed to receiving. It was original and personal.

She said they liked my story, had strongly considered it for publication, but that it wasn't quite believable. Disappointed as I was, I was struck by her last words to me..."Don't stop writing. You're good at this. We almost bought this one."

I remember staring at that a long time. Then I folded it up and tucked it in a file and...stopped writing.

I wish I could tell you a different story, but I can't. I stopped writing for many years.

There were lots of reasons. Yes, I was disappointed, but the letter that should have encouraged me not to give up was forgotten.

Life happened. Dreams of writing were pushed aside by other things...important things.

Mostly I needed money for my young family. In the 1970s, police officers in Georgia were not paid a lot even by the standards of the day. I worked part-time jobs whenever I wasn't working at the police department. Many weeks I had no days off at all.

I'm not unhappy that I did my best to take care of my family. It was the right thing to do and working for them was the joy of my life.

Children grew up; then grandchildren came along. More life happened.

Then...The Internet Appeared

Out of the blue, this thing called the internet appeared and guess what. I was at a point in life when I didn't need to work part-time jobs every spare minute of the day. I could write again.

It's different these days. I can publish a book whether I convince an agent or editor to read it or not. I am an independent writer/publisher, an “Indie.”

It’s a partnership between us, writer and reader, and it's a marvelous thing.

Don't be a Follower -- Make Your Dream Real

It took many years to get here. Life is like that, with lots of twists and turns and surprises. I like it that way.

Now, I write every day, so here's my parting advice.
Don’t follow your dreams. Followers get nowhere except up the backside of the person in front.

Work and make your dream a reality.

Also under the title “The Redemption”

Book # 5, in the Hunters series

This story continues the saga that all started with” Eyes of the Predator” where George Mackey with Lyn and Clay played the center roles. Here these poor souls will face their demons and eventually find redemption.

I am at a loss for words this time really what can I positively said when a story did not really appeal to you. Indeed although a lot is going on, no doubt about that, I found this to be rather a redneck story, one that is less thrilling and by far too raw for my taste. Violence at every page, never ending back wood language I must say it really represented what I imagined a hillbilly county to be. Mr. Trust does a great job representing the place and people he writes about whether they are the rednecks or the beautiful people of Pickham County, he indeed paints them vividly. But did this story pulled me in? Yes, in parts, but I got tired of the despicable acts the bad guys did, really too much. Maybe I wasn’t in the mood for this type when I picked up the book.

“Fire and Blood” may not be my favourite but I must note that the tempo is steady throughout, the characters played their roles perfectly and all ended superbly…the bad guys got what they deserved and the good guys also….

I still have mix feelings many days after closing the book, after all what do you say when at first you do not particularly like a book but you come to realize days later that the sequence of events are still vividly imprinted in your mind…isn’t a sign the story made an impact…..and that you did like the book in great parts….but I still sit on the fence with this one and leave it up to you for final judgement….

The saga will continue with book # 6 “The Killing Ground”.

George Mackey did his prison time and returned home to Sharon, an empty, broken man. A convicted felon, unable to be a deputy sheriff, in his eyes his life has lost all meaning. Sharon is struggling to keep their relationship, their love for one another alive, and is failing miserably when redemption comes in an unexpected way, in a way that almost costs him his life.

Redemption, book 5 in the Hunters Series, reunites us with a few of the characters we met in Eyes of the Predator, book 1 in the Hunters Series. Now would be a good time to go back and reread Eyes of the Predator or read it for the first time if you haven’t read it before. It's a must read because it sets the stage for all the adventures to follow. If Blood Reckoning book 4, was the pivotal book in the series, Redemption has started George and Sharon on a new path as a couple, although we aren’t certain what that path is yet. Perhaps we will find out when we read the next book in the series, Book 6 The Killing Ground.

I can only wonder about the possibility of a Governor’s pardon for George Mackey at some point in the future, he has certainly earned it. OK! I’m off to read The Killing Ground now.

What an awesome series

And the best part is that you can't read them fast enough and then you get to the end of the last book and you start crying...oh don't worry...they are happy tears...

George Mackey is now out of prison but lost. Then someone needs his help, again. The Stinsons are out for revenge and in their sights are their niece Lyn and her friend Clay Purcell.
The book can be read as a standalone but I would recommend reading the previous four.
Another good gripping thriller in this series.

Wow! Book five already! Great series! I loved Fire and Blood, The Hunters 5, and think it is the best book so far. It can be read alone, but, to fully enjoy it I strongly recommend you read the first four in the series, as you will appreciate and have a better understanding of what George MacKey is going through. (I believe books 1-3 are available in one edition.) We now see, realistically, that MacKey is human and deals with the stress, events and loss he has endured in the first four books, that it has its toll on him and how he seeks to redeem himself. It is difficult to write a review without telling why and where you find a book amazing, but I never like to spoil it for others. The characters that make up 'The Hunters' and the others in Pickham County, although I have mentioned it before, feel like old friends you are dropping in to visit every time Mr Trust releases a new book in The Hunter Series. Some characters from the past reappear, and along with a few 'villains', the stage is set for an anxiety filled fast paced thriller! The writing and descriptions pull you in and you feel as though you are there yourself. When I say anxiety filled, I was reading while freaking out over some of the despicable acts the bad guys do and how truly evil they are. There are some extreme shocking moments, when I felt like throwing my e-reader across the room. I am so glad I didn't as the ending was superb! I hope there shall be another book in the series in the future because... I cannot spoil it, so you must read and find out why!
I just love Pickham County and its diverse cast. I have told my friends' husband (whom like me, loves great, high quality thrillers,) about this writer, and he too, is now hooked!
