About the author

With the help of Friedrich Engels, German philosopher and revolutionary Karl Marx wrote The Communist Manifesto (1848) and Das Kapital (1867-1894), works, which explain historical development in terms of the interaction of contradictory economic forces, form many regimes, and profoundly influenced the social sciences.

German social theorist Friedrich Engels collaborated with Karl Marx on The Communist Manifesto in 1848 and on numerous other works.

Mikhail Mikhailovich Bakhtin in London opposed Communism of Karl Marx with his antithetical anarchy.

Works of Jacques Martin Barzun include Darwin, Marx, Wagner (1941).

The Prussian kingdom introduced a prohibition on Jews, practicing law; in response, a man converted to Protestantism and shortly afterward fathered Karl Marx.

Marx began co-operating with Bruno Bauer on editing Philosophy of Religion of Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (see Democritus and Epicurus), doctoral thesis, also engaged Marx, who completed it in 1841. People described the controversial essay as "a daring and original piece... in which Marx set out to show that theology must yield to the superior wisdom." Marx decided to submit his thesis not to the particularly conservative professors at the University of Berlin but instead to the more liberal faculty of University of Jena, which for his contributed key theory awarded his Philosophiae Doctor in April 1841. Marx and Bauer, both atheists, in March 1841 began plans for a journal, entitled Archiv des Atheismus (Atheistic Archives), which never came to fruition.

Marx edited the newspaper Vorwärts! in 1844 in Paris. The urging of the Prussian government from France banished and expelled Marx in absentia; he then studied in Brussels. He joined the league in 1847 and published.

Marx participated the failure of 1848 and afterward eventually wound in London. Marx, a foreigner, corresponded for several publications of United States.
He came in three volumes. Marx organized the International and the social democratic party.

Marx in a letter to C. Schmidt once quipped, "All I know is that I am not a Marxist," as Warren Allen Smith related in Who's Who in Hell .

People describe Marx, who most figured among humans. They typically cite Marx with Émile Durkheim and Max Weber, the principal modern architects.

Bertrand Russell later remarked of non-religious Marx, "His belief that there is a cosmic ... called dialectical materialism, which governs ... independently of human volitions, is mere mythology" ( Portraits from Memory , 1956).

Μου άρεσε η παρουσίαση μέσω comic και θεωρώ ότι ήταν όσο προσιτή θα έπρεπε για να γίνουν κατανοητές κάποιες βασικές αρχές που αναλύονται στο βιβλίο "Το Κεφάλαιο" του Κάρλ Μάρξ. Πολύ καλή δουλειά. Προτείνεται!

It seems odd to call this text Capital in Manga. It has only the vaguest relation to Karl Marx's Capital, throwing out a few important vocabulary terms and explaining them through narrative, but doing little else. Indeed, to cite Karl Marx as the author of this particular text would be woefully inaccurate. Still, what you have here is a just-short-of compelling story about factory work, labor, and capital. As Robin compromises his values and conscience to the pursuit of money, this manga focuses on that moral fall. Still, something is off about the whole thing. The characters are almost entirely static and move in irregular, arbitrary ways. The reason for this is they serve a polemical purpose rather than a narrative purpose. Every criticism about "political fiction" comes to life here, with the kind of fragmented plot and inexplicable behavior from the characters. Even still, I don't know what I was expecting. I read this as a novelty, but it is one anyone else can safely skip.

Me ha encantao! No me cambia la vida por eso le pongo 4 estrellas, pero es una manera fácil e incluso divertida de acercarse más a las ideas de Marx. Al final he comprendido muchos de los términos que utiliza fácilmente y también la evolución, las causas y consecuencias de la sociedad capitalista, por qué se crean las crisis económicas y el papel de la fuerza de trabajo, los empresarios y los bancos. Muy contenta porque antes tenía una vorágine de dudas sobre estos temas y ahora hasta podría explicárselo a alguien que estuviera como yo.

No se curra demasiado parecer interesante, tiene unos personajes muy esteoritipizados (estereorípicos? estereotipo?) , pero porque hace foco en las tesis, pero ta bien, ta gracioso, más divulgativo de lo que me esperaba y menos meme de lo que parecía. Puede llegar a servir de semillita para que alguien se interese por la obra original (y es su intención).

Creo que este es un libro imprescindible y este formato me ha gustado mucho.

Quizás para gente entendida en el tema este libro sea meramente introductorio y no les aporte gran cosa, pero para gente como yo, que tenemos los conocimientos básicos respecto a economía/política creo que está genial.

Es una forma dinámica y entretenida de aprender cosas en mi opinión demasiado importantes.

Desde luego la forma de pensar de
Karl Marx quizas sea utópica por la sociedad en la que vivimos, pero tenía una mente prodigiosa.

Ya me leí hace tiempo el Manifiesto Comunista y seguramente en el "Capital" original vengan muchas más reflexiones que en este cómic, pero aún asi me ha encantado.

Le capital en manga se propose de présenter des notions clés sur lesquelles repose la pensée du philosophe Marx.

Je n'ai pas lu Marx, je ne peux donc pas comparer le manga et l'oeuvre originale, mais pour avoir lu d'autres philosophes, je n'attendais pas de ce mange de 200 pages qu'il égale les textes de ce grand nom de la philosophie/ de l'économie/ de la politique, etc...

Le manga s'emploie, à travers une intrigue "particulière", à définir les termes : "capital, société capitaliste, capitaliste, dominants, classe ouvrière, plus-value, plus-value relative, capital constant / variable, reproduction de la force de travail, main d'oeuvre."
Les notions évoquées étant complexes (entendons-nous bien, on reste à la surface, mais même comme cela, il y a fort à dire), "l'intrigue", qui a été conçue pour aborder les notions, passe souvent au second plan et on s'arrête toutes les dix pages pour expliquer quelque chose ou démontrer les effets de telle ou telle action.
Il ne faut donc pas choisir ce manga pour se plonger dans une fiction. En dehors d'une histoire d'amour incompréhensible et des plans dénudés de Claire pour le male gaze, il n'y a pas grand chose. Les efforts pour recréer une ambiance manichéenne au niveau des personnages et ainsi générer une tension dramatique retombent à plat parce que si le schéma marxiste s'y prête (capitalistes / ouvriers), ce n'est pas le cas de l'intrigue.
Toutefois, cette oeuvre a eu le mérite de me permettre d'en apprendre plus sur le capitalisme.

Je remercie les éditions Kurokawa pour cette lecture. Voici le dernier des kurosavoir de sortie pour le moment de lu. Je pense vous écrire et publier sous peu un article parlant avec plus de profondeur de mon ressentis et engouement vis-à-vis de cette collection.

Nous suivons le personnage de Roy. C’est un simple boulanger qui est né dans une famille plutôt pauvre. Il aimerait aider la société, les autres, comme lui, qui subisse la force monstrueuse de celui qui possède les terres actuelles et se permet de tout faire payer à un prix exorbitant : Gordon.

Mais heureusement pour lui, une réponse va venir vite pointer son nez pour faire disparaître ce monstre. Il va recroiser un ami d’enfance, issu de la noblesse : Oscar. Il s’y connait en capitalisme, il sait comment faire une entreprise prospère et gagner pas mal d’argent. Mais pour ce faire, il aura besoin de l’aide de Roy et de son savoir-faire. À eux deux, ils peuvent faire disparaître Gordon !

Pourtant, ce n’est pas si simple… Pour éradiquer un monstre, il faut souvent en devenir un soi-même. Ici, Karl Marx met en avant l’injustice du capitalisme. Celle d’exploiter des bases travailleuses. Le patron n’achète non pas un produit, mais une force de travail : L’homme. Ce qui en revient aux yeux de Karl Marx à une forme d’esclavagiste moderne.

En bref, c’est une jolie vulgarisation de l’œuvre de Karl Marx, pour ceux qui veulent découvrir son univers et comprendre un peu sa vision des choses concernant le capitalisme. L’histoire de Roy et Oscar, est d’ailleurs très prenante et on se laisser aller dans cette petite histoire qui nous explique l’envers du décor du capitalisme.

Μου αρέσουν γενικά οι οπτικοποιημένες διασκευές, όπως για παράδειγμα τα έργα του Αριστοφάνη ή η ιστορία του κόσμου ή της μουσικής σε κόμικ. Το Κεφάλαιο του Μαρξ δεν αποτελέσε εξαίρεση και το ήταν μάλιστα μάνγκα -όχι ό,τι κι ό,τι κόμικ- ήταν επίσης ευπρόσδεκτο.

Οι χαρακτήρες απλοί και συμβολικοί για να περάσουν το μήνυμα ευκολότερα, οι παραλληλισμοί με το σήμερα και ο διαχρονικός παραλογισμός του καπιταλισμού προφανείς. Όλα και τίποτα δεν έχουν αλλάξει από τον 19ο αιώνα -- σχεδόν το βιβλίο με έκανε, για λίγα κλάσματα του δευτερολέπτου, να συμμεριστώ τους κνίτες και την εμμονή τους με τον Γερμανό μουσάτο τύπο του τότε, από τους πολλούς δηλαδή. Ευτυχώς συνήλθα γρήγορα.

Το μοναδικό πρόβλημα (ίσως κι επειδή είμαι χαζός σε αυτά τα θέματα) είναι πως όταν άρχιζε να εξηγεί από τι προκύπτει η υπεραξία και γιατί η τεχνολογική εξέλιξη η οποία αντικαθιστά τους εργάτες αναπόφευκτα οδηγεί σε κρίση γιατί το κέρδος μειώνεται, απλά δεν καταλάβαινα. Και συνεχίζω να μην καταλαβαίνω. Το ποσοστό κέρδους μπορεί να μειώνεται γιατί υπάρχει μεγαλύτερο αρχικό κεφάλαιο για την αγορά μηχανημάτων/εξοπλισμού, όμως δεν προβλέπεται η απόσβεση; Αγοράζοντας τα μηχανήματα δεν αγοράζεις, κατα κάποιον τρόπο, το εργατικό τους δυναμικό; Γιατί αράγε η αντικατάσταση εργατών με μηχανήματα είναι ζημιογόνα, ή μάλλον, αντι-κερδοσκοπική για τον καπιταλιστή σε βάθος χρόνου; Αυτές τις λεπτομέρειες δεν τις πιάνω και το μάνγκα δεν με βοήθησε και πολύ. Ίσως, όπως και το πραγματικό κείμενο, να χρειάζεται επιπλέον μελέτη και όχι απλά μια γρήγορη ανάγνωση γιατί νομίζες ότι επειδή διαβάζεις διασκευή σε μάνγκα θα έπρεπε να τα πιάνεις ευκολότερα. Σε αυτή την περίπτωση, ίσως το ότι είναι μάνγκα να μην βοηθάει τα πράγματα. Χμ.

In terms of story and getting across the complex material of Das Capital, I give this comic 5 stars.

In terms of adaptation from Japanese Manga I can only give this 4 stars. The way the text is placed in the panels is often confusing in terms of discerning who is speaking because they placed the art in order to be read left to right, and arranged the text to accompany it, but without flipping the art, so it is just odd at times.

A proper presentation of this as a manga, with the original Japanese right to left reading arrangement would have been nice.

All that aside, it is a compelling read, and will do a really nice job of getting Marx’s analysis of Capital to readers who may not have the time, ability, or inclination to read the full text of Marx’s book.

capital in manga is a quick-paced book about a cheese-maker, Robin who wants to become rich. His quest for wealth involves many of the classic interactions with the capitalist system, demonstrating its fatal flaws on many levels. It also shows Robin's conflict of morality between making profit to pay back the loan and the exploitation of his workers.The basic concepts are also explained so it can serves as an introduction.

perhaps it would have been interesting to situate the story in the 21st century

the translation is a bit confusing though, it would have been better with the original Japanese right to left reading arrangement.

Karl Marx's Das Kapital has been rewritten into simple and easy to understand manga comic. Although the illustrations and the written text is of low quality, the story is compelling and makes use of some of Karl Marx's principles. Debo admitir que antes de leer este manga no sabía de qué iba la obra y honestamente desde sus primeras páginas choqué fuertemente con los ideales del autor.

Vengo de un país donde el comunismo tomó el rumbo de mi país y daño un hermoso lugar obligándome a emigrar a otros lugares con el fin de conseguir el objetivo más simple e indispensable que cualquier ser humano desea tener: Una casa, una fuente de empleo estable y permitirme tener lo necesario para poder disfrutar con mi famila.

Es irónico que aquello que el libro dice que genera el capitalismo, lo viví en un país comunista. Deseo leer el libro original para saber con exactitud cuáles son los ideales que arruinaron gran parte de mi infancia y gran parte de mi vida.

Honestamente las ideas transmitidas son erróneas, mostrando a un mundo capitalista como si fuera algo satánico y donde los dueños de empresas explotan a sus empleados, sin duda de la manera en como se muestra en el libro hace mucho tiempo que dejó de ocurrir. Hoy en día existen leyes que regulan los trabajos, existen mecanismos con los cuales se puede contar con una pensión y una jubilación tras varios años de trabajo duro e irónicamente permitirte comprar lo que tú quieras, además de grandes avances tecnológicos. Lo curioso es que estás cosas nacen es en capitalismo no en comunismo. Pero bueno, es fácil ser comunista en un país capitalista, y que increíble es poder redactar este libro dando cátedra de cómo viven los pobres, los empleados y demás cuando el autor vivía del dinero de su papá y tras crecer vivió de la riqueza de su esposa, justamente el típico discurso comunista.

Ahí es donde se ve que no existe tal igualdad en circunstancias y honestamente nadie las debería tener ya que nadie es igual a otro, pero las oportunidades deben ser igual para todos permitiéndonos forjar nuestro propio camino y moldearnos en lo que queramos ser y eso no se logra viviendo del esfuerzo ajeno y quejándome exigiendo una igualdad en cuanto a riqueza y vienes, una igualdad que no existe y mucho menos para gente que ni siquiera esta dispuesta a trabajar lo mínimo para obtenerlo.

Αν και μου αρέσουν οι διασκευές λογοτεχνικών κειμένων σε graphic novel ένιωσα περίεργα και σχεδόν γέλασα όταν είδα πως υπάρχει το Κεφάλαιο σε γιαπωνέζικο manga! Για να μην έχετε μεγάλες προσδοκίες, δεν πρόκειται για μια πιστή μεταφορά σε άλλο φορμάτ του εμβληματικού κειμένου του Μαρξ, αλλά για μια ελεύθερη διασκευή μέσα από μια συμβολική ιστορία που προσπαθεί να πιάσει τα πολύ βασικά της οικονομικής ανάλυσης και υπό αυτή την έννοια θεωρώ λάθος να αναγράφεται ο Μαρξ ως συγγραφέας.

Η βασική ιστορία έχει να κάνει με ένα τυροκομείο και την επένδυση του γιου σε μια μεγαλύτερη μονάδα με ότι αυτή φέρνει μαζί της, επενδύσεις, μαζική παραγωγή, πίεση πάνω στο προσωπικό και εκμετάλλευση της υπεραξίας, κρίση, απολύσεις, ανεργία, νέες επενδύσεις και πάλι από την αρχή σε έναν παραλογισμό που αφήνει μόνο θύματα.

Η εικονογράφηση είναι απλά οκ και το κείμενο έχει τα θέματα του, πχ το ότι η σειρά έχει αλλάξει στο από αριστερά προς τα δεξιά φορμάτ (τα αυθεντικά manga ακολουθούν αντίστροφη ροή), αλλά το βασικό πρόβλημα του βιβλίου είναι η ίδια η ιστορία, που καταντά βαρετή και μονότονη πολύ γρήγορα. Από και πέρα, είναι προφανές πως το βιβλίο δεν έχει να προσφέρει τίποτα σε κάποιον που έχει διαβάσει ήδη το βιβλίο ή/και γνωρίζει ήδη τις στρεβλώσεις του καπιταλισμού αλλά ενδεχομένως να λειτουργεί για κάποιον νεότερο αφού διαβάζεται μέσα σε λίγα λεπτά και ίσως του δώσει μια αμυδρή εικόνα για τους βασικούς μηχανισμούς του καπιταλισμού (που εννοείται πως συνεχίζει να δείχνει τα δόντια του δυο αιώνες μετά).

A rather simplistic introduction to capitalism, which isn’t a criticism in itself. For any beginner, this manga adaptation offers a good stepping stone toward a basic understanding of capitalism. It also makes it easier afterward to dig deeper into its mechanisms and its inherent contradictions, thanks to the conceptual keys the book provides.

Now, despite the preface bluntly stating that the narrative would be free of any form of Manichaeism, I can’t say I agree with the final result. The “story” used as an analogy to make capitalism easier to grasp feels quite stagnant in narrative terms; the characters are overly simplistic and serve more as narrative tools than as truly developed individuals. The overall tone ends up feeling genuinely Manichaean, despite the preface’s initial promise.

The second part is largely carried by a visual narrator, and honestly, that approach should have been used from the start of the “story.” It would have made the analogy clearer—as a giant conceptual illustration—instead of giving us something that merely looks like a narrative framework without its true substantial core.

In conclusion, it still works as a good introduction, but with characters far too static narratively; they feel more like NPCs in a video game than real characters, which I find unfortunate.
