Now this wasn't actually the version that I read - but it is the version I use most often, so it makes some kind of sense to put the review here. I actually read the You Version app version - but I did read it from cover to cover, and it was amazing.

Oddly, it reminded me of a modern novel - you know the kind of thing that has stories, poems, bits of film script in, all taking you on an epic ride. Games with time and point of view, heroes and villains, and everyone is flawed (except one character of course, but I won't give the game away by giving a name!).

I read it relatively quickly, which meant that I skimmed quite a lot of the boring bits (Numbers, Leviticus) and the repetitive but (Chronicles, for instance). It took me about 4 months, some of it was a slog - some a joy. But it was worthwhile because you get a good idea where all the bits fit, you get a good idea of the historical events, and you get to actually read all those bits that people misquote and misrepresent.

Whether you believe in God, or the divine inspiration of the Bible, you should really read this book. It is, after all, the foundation document of Western Civilisation (about which we can all agree with Gandhi, and assent that it would be a good idea!) - our laws, ethics, beliefs are all founded in this book. Our great works of art, architecture, sculpture and philosophy are rooted here (not forgetting the Greeks). The parables and moral tales that we are told as children are here too - which of us hasn't been in a Nativity Play or acted out a bible story in the school assembly?

The real point of this book is that it is the definitive source of truth about being a Christian. By reading it, you will be protected from all those who want to peddle their own truth, when all we need is God's truth.

This particular version has a little bit of commentary and context with each book, and it focuses on a 12 step repentance plan, based on the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous, that takes you through acceptance of your brokenness, finding a belief, confession, making amends, what to do on a continuous basis to stay on the "right" side, prayer and an understanding of God's mission.

The Life Recovery Bible is indeed a very interesting Bible. It is not your normal study Bible. This is a Bible that is set up to help folks who are struggling against addictions and bad habits. The Bible text is the New Living Translation and is saturated with notes and articles.
The Life Recovery Bible is set up with notes on Scriptures just as any other study Bible is. What makes it unique is the fact that the notes are specifically slanted (for lack of a better word) toward helping a person fight against that thing that has enslaved him.
Interspersed throughout the Biblical texts are larger notes that deal with people and incidents that direct the reader to think about how a person falls and how a person recovers.
One cannot discount the good topical index that The Life Recovery Bible has, too. It is a one stop listing of the notes and will direct a person with one particular topic on his mind to the right place.
The impressive thing about The Life Recovery Bible is the fact that it is not simply a self help book. It has a strong connection to the twelve step program, but is more than that. The Life Recovery Bible is an aid for one who may be going through a twelve step recovery program. It shows how a person sins, fails, fall, and rises again. It directs the reader to acknowledge his sinfulness and his need for God's help.
I anticipate using this in ministerial counseling from time to time. I honestly think that this will be a good help for many people.

I love love love this bible! As someone who is a recovering addict this is an excellent bible! It has 12 steps and a 18 step study all Christ centered. It takes you on a journey through Gods word on recovery, the serenity prayer and much more!
It deals with the heart of what every addict deals with... wether it be drugs, alcohol, sex/porn, food, starving your self, over counter drugs, prescription drugs i.e. pain killers etc

It deals with the struggles we face in giving up control and turning to everything and anything but God. This bible has helped me so much in the past and is helping me now. I still struggle like now with wanting to use.

I would highly recommend this bible to anyone,,, Even if you do not struggle with addictions I am surer you know someone who does.. This would be great for you as a christ centered tool to help someone you love struggling.

I can not say enough of how great this bible is!!!!!!!!

I loved this Bible. Everyday from January 1st, 2021 to December 31, 2021, I read this Bible. Sometimes it scared me thinking I could never be good enough. Some books were a little boring. After all those feelings, I became completely sold on Jesus Christ. I learned so much more than before about Jesus. It changed my life. I'm much more disciplined. I haven't eaten sugar since September 3rd. I feel more in tune with God. And I don't feel the need to tell people what I think especially on Facebook. I believe he reminds me of the right way to live. Not that I'm perfect, but I feel Jesus can restore me to sanity. If I stay connected, He is all I need.

Changed my life! I began to know God. Not fear Him or think that he hated me. Showed me people in biblical times faced many of the struggles we face with our negative thinking. I choose positivity and I choose God. 😀🙏
