With the ultimate offensive magic finally under her belt, Megumin is off to Axel Town to start her adventure, and nothing will stand in her way! ...Except poverty. A trip from the local Teleportation Station isn't cheap, and the closest it can get her to Axel is Arcanletia, the city of water and hot springs. It looks like Megumin's got her (part-time) work cut out for her. Thankfully, she can look forward to help from Yunyun-as well as a certain sect of devout lunatics!

This one was a slog to get through. The Axis church characters dragged this volume way down.

I want to start by saying that if you're coming from the anime the book is much better, and way less vulgar. I'm not sure why the animators made the choice to make it so inapproprite. I'm used to the uncomfortable humour from the LN series and the main anime but I couldn't even finish the anime it was that bad!

Anyways, it feels wrong giving a Konosuba LN less than 5 stars as I do adore the series but this volume just wasn't it. A lot of it was similar to what we've already seen in the main LN series, such as a trip to Alcanretia, the hot springs being tampered with and the annoying Axis cult members. To add to that, if you read the franchise in the correct reading order this only comes a few books after the Alcanretia arc in the main series so it feels very repetitive.

I HATE the new characters Cecily and Lord Zesta, and again I have no clue why they are so perverted, a lot more than some characters usually are in this series. There is one scene in particular with Cecily that I just can't understand why it was included, or why Megumin would even associate with her after that.

I think this LN was definitely filler content to bridge the gap between Megumin leaving the Crimson Demon Village and arriving at Axel, and in a way it does give insight into why the Axis cult do some of the things they do, but it was just no enjoyable at all.

A much better book than the first.

Here Megumin comes across less annoying and the story actually moves rather than linger on dull slice of life antics. And it actually made me laugh unlike the first volume. I think the standout character of this side series is Yunyun who despite the bullying and ill treatment from Megumin manages to add some heart.

Also the Axis Church being a collection of perverted, proselytizing nutjobs will never not be funny.

Though a good read, it still hasn’t cracked the merely average. I wasn’t wholly engaged again and that seems to be my biggest hurdle with light novels. I don’t know why they read as such vapid and lifeless entertainment and can’t pinpoint where that feeling comes from. But nonetheless a fine enough book for Konosuba fans.

It has been about a year since I read Volume One of Explosion. I quickly picked up the story after the first chapter was over. I really enjoyed reading Megumin's side of the story and how she came about meeting Kazume in Axel Town. Please read on...

Fun read. I enjoy the additional lore, goofy banter, and quirky little moments. Not as intriguing as the first part, but enjoyable nonetheless.

An excellent sequel to the first story, but not quite what I expected. The city of Arcanlentia was a constant groaner from the amount of conniving, religious fanatics just from watching it and now I have to read it. I had hoped that there would be more instances for when Megumin is joining a party since there were flashbacks to her constantly going from one party to another in the show after her Explosion magic wore her out. Still her instances when she does her magic were quite excellent even though I kinda wished there was a bit more intimate passion that she expressed when doing it. I do hope that this is not the last that we learn of Chomusuke or of Arnes.
