I write kids' books--talk about a FUN job! I worked for 21 years as a speech-language therapist in Maine schools. When I got married, I got 3 & 4-year-old stepsons as part of my ready-made family. I read the boys picture books at bedtime. They fell asleep after 2 or 3 books, but I kept reading stacks and stacks of picture books and started to dream . . . maybe I could write picture books. I was already writing educational books (listening & speaking ideas for the classroom), but PICTURE BOOKS--that was different!

Different, and sloooooow! I had 13 years of rejections before getting my first book published, Pigs in the Mud in the Middle of the Rud, and I still get more rejections than acceptances--even after having more than 40 books published. So I'm still an author-in-training--learning to be a better author all the time.

I LOVE writing, the whole creative process. I also LOVE sharing my books with kids at schools: doing interactive readings, turning one of my books into a play, and teaching students how to plan and write different kinds of stories (i.e. problem stories, character stories, graphic novel scenes, fables) modeled after my books.

I love to try new kinds of writing such as poetic stories, a biography, a graphic novel, and more. Writing new kinds of stories is a challenge, but it makes writing fun and keeps me interested in the process.

Go Grandma Go! is the only board book on our list and appeals chiefly to babies. Bright colours, fun activities, and never-ending energy are on the agenda in this adorable little book, as each page shares a different grandma and her grandchild having a blast together.

A presentation of several grandmothers and their grandchildren each doing fun activities together.
The illustrations are cheerful, fun, and colorful. The people featured on each page are different races. Both my son and his grandmother enjoyed the book together. This would make a great gift for grandparents with a baby grandchild.

A rhyming board book that celebrates the special relationship between grandmother and grandchild. The lively, bouncy text and bright, colorful illustrations show different grandmothers participating in a number of fun activities: flying a kite, twisting and twirling to music, in the snow, on the beach, and more, until finally there's grandma and grandchild napping on a hammock after reading a book: "Breezes blow to and fro. Slow Grandma, slow.

This is a lovely book with gorgeous illustrations about the many things a grandkid can do with a grandmother. There are lots of onomatopoeias in the book (e.g. beep! bop!) with a simple rhyming scheme throughout. It portrays grandma and grandkid playing together - being pushed in a car, going down a slide together, playing musical instruments, flying a kite, going shopping, sledding in the snow, playing at the beach, hiking, resting in a hammock. I love that these are not stereotypical "female" things to do but something anyone can go regardless of gender. Additionally, the grandmothers portrayed in the illustrations are many different ages and races (as are the grandkids) but I also would have like to have seen some grandmothers of different abilities. I would hate for a child to think they can't play with grandma because she's hard of hearing or in a wheelchair.

Active grandparents share in the thrill of exploration, exercise, and everyday activities with their grandkids. The pages are somewhat busy but are not jarring for little eyes and group/virtual reads.
