About the author

Viktor Noevich Komarov (Russian: Виктор Ноевич Комаров) (1924-2001) was a Soviet and Russian astronomer, science fiction writer, journalist and popularizer of science.

He was born in Rostov-on-Don. He lived in the village of Milyutinskaya, then moved to Moscow. Graduated from the Physics and Mathematics Faculty of Moscow State University (student of Igor Evgenievich Tamm) and for many years worked as an employee of the Moscow Planetarium, where he was chairman of the astronomical section.

Astronomy lovers are known primarily as a tireless popularizer of science, the author of about 50 popular science and science fiction books, mainly astronomical and atheistic topics. The most famous "What are miracles?" (1982), "New Entertaining Astronomy" (1972, 1983), "Entertaining Astrophysics" (1984), "Paths to Mystery" (1990) have been translated into many languages ​​of the world.

He was a member of the Academy of Cosmonautics. K.E. Tsiolkovsky, International Noosphere Academy, full member of the All-Union Astronomical and Geodetic Society of the USSR Academy of Sciences. He was a member of the Union of Journalists of the USSR.

Until his very last days, Viktor Noevich worked tirelessly: he wrote scientific articles, books and, of course, science fiction. Viktor Noevich Komarov died in Moscow on March 18, 2001.

Fascinating indeed, this is a book on science that actually proposes scientific reasoning - which unfortunately is not always the case for science books. Mr. Komarov sets out the many methodological problems surrounding Astronomy and illustrates how they've been worked out in the past, and how scientists have stumbled upon those problems to the point of making ludicrous conclusions (Schiaparelli's "canals" of Mars observation is one funny example).
I think Mr. Komarov achieved his educational purposes very nicely. A fine gem from the extinct USSR.

Tervikuna mitte vast kõikse parem raamat, aga koolipoisina sain sealt mitmest-setmest asjast teada... ja seda just teadusliku nurga alt.
Raamat sisaldab ka autori neli ulmejuttu, mis tegelikult on teose kõige nõrgem osa... autor oskab tõesti paremini, kuigi tipptasemel ulmekirjanik pole ta kunagi olnud.

Very very good book. Everyone who reads this book will surely get fascinated by astronomy. Tamil translation is very good. Tamil words chosen for scientific and technical jargons are exact yet easy to understand. I wish I could read the original Soviet version.

أعطي الكتاب 3 نجوم بسبب قصص الخيال العلمي الجميلة التي وضعها المؤلف في نهاية كل باب تقريبا ..

أعجبني محتوى الكتاب وما يحاول المؤلف إيصاله إلينا .. ولكن للأسف لا أعتقد بأن الكتاب موجه لعامة الناس بل لأصحاب الإختصاص او لمن لديهم معرفة حول علم الفلك ..
فلم يقم المؤلف بشرح المفاهيم والافكار والنظريات التي كان يطرحها .. فكان يكتفي بذكرها وبمقارنة النظريات ببعضها وبمحاولة التنبأ بمستقبلها .. ولهذا أيضا لا أعلم كيف اختار المؤلف عنوان كتابه حيث أن محتوى الكتاب لا علاقة له بالطرائف حقا .. هو كتاب علمي وكتاب سرد يتخلله بعض القصص القصيرة والجميلة ..

أعجبني ايضا بالكتاب أن عمره يزيد عن 30 عاما .. ولكن عند قراءته تشعر بأنك تقرأ كتب علماء الفلك الحديثين .. وهذا شيء مميز جدا بالكتاب وبمؤلفه ..

أنا كعاشق لعلم الفلك استمتعت نوعا ما بالكتاب وإن لم اقم بفهم بعض من المسائل .. لكن لا أعتقد بأن غير المتخصص او الذي لا يميل لهذا العلم بأن يستمتع به بنفس القدر .. بل قد يجده مملا ..
لكن من سيقرأه سيحب حقا قصص الخيال العلمي الموجودة فيه والتي تدل على سعة الخيال الضخمة لدى المؤلف فيكتور كوماروف
