“Hope can be powerful; Hope matters.”
“It wasn’t a job or an achievement that was important, but who he was with.”
What a fun ride, a rollercoaster indeed! Such a pity it’s the last of the series. I’m sad it has to end. It had me wanting for more. The flow of the book is excellent. The story itself is dark and tremendous, but the author does a fantastic job of keeping it light with humour and levity. The characters grew on me, and got hold of my heart, even the villains, as bad and evil as they were, had a comical side with them. This series was like watching great films like Batman, Superman, it read like a comic also, so full of adventures and misadventures. Action filled, dramatic scenes with a doom like end of the galaxy feeling..many unsuspecting and twisted events that kept me at the edge of my seat. From beginning to end, it has been a wild, fun, daunting, exciting and thrilling experience, an apotheosis. The end is suspicious, to say the least! Lol. I highly recommend it!

In the final part of this series, the stage is set for the final showdown with Goliath. Goliath continues to push towards ‘System 5118208’ – or what is more commonly known to we corporeals as, Our Solar System – where Earth is. As it continues its trip towards our solar system, Goliath destroys every Planet, Moon, or any structure that either currently inhabits, or ever has inhabited, corporeals, to make sure that we are eradicated from the Universe, but to also have vengeance.
In the meantime Hudson and Tory continue their desperate search for Griff and the crystal half he is carrying, but realising that their time is running out, the also opt for a backup plan, much as Goliath has done on its way to its current location, and they go looking for their own crystal shards as well as a device to put crystals back together – all thanks to information supplied by Morphus. And thus they go for one last ‘Relic Hunt’ to see if they can find enough of a shard to go with what they have, to power Morphus and the Revocater.
As they do that, Liberty, Morphus, and for morale support, Tobin, go to try and find humanities last true hope, and bring it to System 5118208, and meet up with Hudson and Tory. For if they fail, there is no chance anyway. To help with this, Liberty has to undergo some ‘augmentation’, which carries with it a high risk, but she is the only one who is compatible.
It is up to these 4 Humans and 1 AI to save all of Humanity, for a far more powerful AI has taken all that it was given, and twisted it, tainting the logic so that it now sees all ‘intelligent corporeal’ life (I use the word intelligent loosely, because that includes people like Logan Griff, and well???) as a threat, and they must be exterminated. Without these 5 (and as this particular book goes on, that number increases as they run into some old friends), Humanity would have no hope.
This is a story that is so much fun, it is written in that style of Firefly, or Star Wars, with that small pocket of close knit friends who have a particular set of skills to get the job done. There is just pure raw courage in the face of insurmountable odds, and along with a good dose of humour to make sure that the story does not get too bogged down, or lost in its own seriousness, this is a spectacular tale that once you start reading, you will be hooked.
Ogden has gone to outstanding efforts to creative this stunningly in-depth, incredibly detailed universe to tell his story in, with not just multiple Planets, each with their own crashed ‘Relic’ ship, but there are multiple different organisations, each with a lot of aspects, dimensions, all of them incredibly complex and comprehensive in the work that he has put into them. This goes for the actual ‘Relic Hunters’ themselves.
It is this attention to detail, that makes this series such a joy to read.
The other really fantastic attribute of this series is the outstanding quality of the character writing. Hudson is just brilliant as the man roaming the galaxy, ejected from one job after another, looking for purpose, until he not only finds it within Liberty Devon, but also with Morphus (Although I think he might have been happy just remaining as a Relic Hunter with Liberty rather than having to save the Galaxy from a vengeful AI). Hudson might seem like he doesn’t have a lot of depth on the surface, but the more you dig, the more you find. Tory is by far the best (and probably the most complicated) character in the book, and in this final book, we really get a good insight into Tory, it is fantastic for those that are a fan of her character. Liberty is also a brilliant character, and there is potential for spin-off’s about her earlier days as to how she got all her talents and ended up at the Shipyard. I’m not saying anything else so I don’t give anything away. Tobin is just pure fun, and he continues in that role in this book, he is just hilarious.
Logan Griff and Cutler Wendall have an interesting time in this book. I don’t want to give too much away, as they are obviously attached to serious spoilers. However, I will say that both of them continue to cause significant grief for the teams. Griff runs into an old Ally early on in this book, for some much needed support, but who begin to wonder if the person is there just to use Griff as a scapegoat, or for their own purposes.
There are some fantastic plot lines between Griff and Cutler and the rest of the Gang, making for some really interesting reading.
This is by far, the best book in the series as everything comes to its climatic end. There are intense space battles (including with the entire Mars Protectorate and Goliath!!), as well as multiple skirmishes between smaller ships. There is lots of action on the ground, every faction that we have come across is involved at some stage in this book, wrapping up plot lines nicely – Ogden does a wonderful job of making sure to tie up loose ends.
Best of all, is the mystery, intrigue, Character development and interplay, and just a really spectacular story that you will love every minute of – DON’T MISS OUT ON THIS SERIES – IT’S BRILLIANT

“The Last Revocater”(Star Scavengers #5) by GJ Ogden. Genre: Space Opera. Location: San Francisco, California, Earth to the outer reaches of space. Time: Future.-
-
The Series: The ancient spaceship Goliath slept for eons. Its mission was to destroy all humans. The ships it destroyed were scattered across many planets. Relic Hunters scavenged the ruined ships for alien tech-a dangerous business that occasionally brought great riches. Now disabled in uncharted space, Goliath can only wait until someone finds its missing crystal.-
In book 1, our hero Hudson Powell is fired from the Relic Guardian Force, finds a mysterious crystal, and is hunted by assassins.-
In book 2, Hudson and young co-captain Liberty start relic hunting while dodging assassins.-
In book 3, Goliath awakens to resume hunting humans while Hudson and Liberty are pursued by many.-
In book 4, Goliath destroys human worlds, Morphus and Liberty set out to retrieve the Last Revocater, and Hudson and Tory look for the crystal.-
-
Book 5: The Last Revocater
Goliath is destroying human planets. Soon it will reach Earth. Morphus and an enhanced Liberty fly The Last Revocater toward Goliath, but they will fail unless Hudson and Tory recapture the crystal. -
-
The author has taken Hudson from a directionless courier runner, to a disgraced RGF cop, to a relic hunter, and finally to a hero. Amidst the action, Hudson insists on stopping on Brahms Three to rescue his friend Ma. Leaving just as Goliath arrives, they head for Mars and Earth to rendezvous with Morphus, Liberty, and Tobin. If the crystal is retrieved , it will be the final showdown. Without the crystal, it will be the end of all humankind.-

The Series: Space Operas include: melodrama✔️, risk-taking space adventures✔️, chivalric romance✔️, outer space locations✔️, faster-than-light travel✔️, futuristic weapons and technology✔️, galactic empires✔️, interstellar wars✔️, and aliens✔️. Yep, this is a Space Opera. Mash together a bit of “Firefly” and “Indiana Jones”. Add in some “Last Starfighter” vibes, and an Enemies to Lovers trope. It’s a romp across space full of villains, heros, aliens, and artificial intelligences. It’s a David and Goliath space opera. (to be exact, it’s a Hudson and Goliath space opera 🤣) And because it fits its genre so well, it’s 4 stars from me.🌵📚👩🏼‍🦳”

Back in the beginning, the reader learned the mission of Goliath that gives us an idea of what’s happening now. The great ship Goliath’s mission was to “cleanse” certain planets of organic life. It had been prevented from completing the mission and banished to the galactic core, but being sentient, it grew bitter at not completing the task. For thousands of years, it thought about its mission. The last Revocater vessel, the only thing that could ever stop Goliath, had been able to stop it and destroyed any hope of its navigating to the target system 5118208. But Goliath knew the last Revocater had perished in the process so Goliath waited for the right time to continue that original mission, not aware that “Morphus”, as named by the human Liberty Devan, had actually survived. Although Morphus had been only been a tiny speck, one of hundreds of artificial constructs created to operate the Revocaters, it survived and had begun to make an adjustment to its programming, because to defeat Goliath again, it had to change itself and evolve. Two powerful opponents preparing to fulfill their missions.

As the Corporeals watched all of this through The Telescope, orbiting above their home world, powerless to intervene, the unthinkable happened as they saw Goliath come out of its prison and begin a relentless course back to System 5118208. The moment dreaded for eons was here! Yet in the midst of darkness there was now hope. The last Revocater thought to be destroyed seemed to be alive, and it was coming home!
* * * * * *
Hudson Powell and Tory Bellona are still searching for Logan Griff and the crystal. Without the alien crystal, stolen by Logan Griff, there is no hope of defeating the great ship. Morphus and Liberty are heading back to Earth with a weapon to help defeat Goliath, but again, without the crystal the odds of victory are slim.

Now the fate of Earth will be determined. Only The Last Revocater can hope to defeat Goliath, and the great ship’s entire devastating anger is about to be unleashed. Will the Revocater Morphus be ready to battle Goiath? Will it have whatever it needs to stop Goliath once more? Grab your copy and hope that Morphus can save us!

I've commented before that many things in this book seemed attributable to luck, or being in the right place at the right time (or wrong place at the wrong time as the case might be). In this thrilling conclusion to the series, success is dependent on hard earned skills and every member of the team giving their best - and in some cases their all. With so many ways for things to go horribly wring and only a tiny chance of success if EVERYTHING comes together just right, this is a nail-biting, edge of your seat adventure you won't want to put down!

Ogden does a masterful job of weaving together threads that have been building through the series into this conclusion and tying up all sorts of loose ends. Super fast paced read with a good balance of tension, suspense and danger broken up with humor. The characters are so well written, you really feel for them whether it is to celebrate their success or feel satisfaction when they finally get their comeuppance. Excellent character growth. While this book has a satisfying conclusion - both to the major crisis and to several character arcs, there is also potential left for future stories in this universe. I would love to see this made as a TV show or movie.

This is the final book in the Star Scavenger series. It was written as a whole and must be read in order. If you haven't started them yet, what are you waiting for? If you have read the previous books, you know you can't wait to see how it all ends, why are you wasting you time reading these reviews?

G. J. Ogden’s space opera, “The Last Revocator” is Book 5, the final novel of the thrilling “Star Scavenger” adventure and mystery series. The watchful eye of The Telescope. deep in interstellar space, sadly tracks the path of death and destruction being done by the monstrous entity Goliath to any intelligent life it can find and the places these entities may dwell. Worst of all, it seems it is possibly headed to System 5118208, the solar system of Earth. Morphus, an entity that opposes Goliathm and a small band of humans seek to stop it in complex and dangerous operations that must be carried out on different fronts, made more difficult by opposing plans in the hearts of some humans. The surviving cast of Hudson, Tory, Liberty, Tobin, Cutler, Logan, and more return, pinning their individual and collective hopes and dreams on many actions and decisions of alien relic hunters, protectors, mercenaries, turncoats, criminals, and Sol inhabitants that may affect all of mankind. Time to draw all the pieces together, but will our heroes come out on top? If not, worlds are going to burn.

This is book five of the series and the conclusion. I do not recommend starting here.

The book is well written, easy to read and just plain fun. Things are tense with all of the plot elements coming together for the final showdown. The characters are definitely put through their paces in this fast paced story, making this a real page turner. Overall, a very enjoyable story and an excellent conclusion to the saga.

Highly recommended.

The end is here and what a way to end it all. The characters I both loved and hated throughout the series are here and all have a part to play. I love Hudson and love how he has ended up in the middle of everything and so important to saving the universe. I loved the action, pacing and how it all ends. This story like the rest of the series just grabs your attention and keeps it to the end. Just a fun fast paced story that I really enjoyed.

In the conclusion to an action-packed space adventure, Hudson, Liberty, Tori, Tobin, and Morpheus fight to take down Goliath and discovered much more than they had expected in the process. Lives will be lost. Lines will be drawn. And none of them will ever be the same. But will they be able to win with so many fighting to stop them?

I received a free ARC of this audiobook from the author and have reviewed it willingly.

The Last Revocater

This particular series finishes with book five. I respectfully suggest that they be reformatted into three only books. The target audience should be 13 to 21. That will keep those people very happy as will the real and very welcome lack of hundreds of swear words that some authors have been lacing their works with. No violent sex scenes either. Kids, enjoy, adults, just put up with the wording, it's a good story.
