Falling for the Mysterious Viscount

Rate this book

When Lavinia Beaumont, the second daughter of a privileged Baron, attends her first London season, her expectations are not high. Being rather spirited and bookish, high society bores and frustrates her. She believes that a man’s character is more important than his wealth, so when she meets a handsome commoner with refreshing ideas her heart will shiver for the first time. But what if this charming man is hiding something? Will Lavinia have the courage to accept the truth when it comes to surface?

Samuel, an honorable Viscount, is tired of ladies chasing him just for his title and wealth and wishes to avoid this season at all cost. When the time comes, he and his friend concoct a marvelous plan: Samuel will disguise himself as a commoner, and find out who likes him for his character and not for his title. His plan will change unexpectedly when he meets a beautiful lady, who disdains nobility… Does he have any chance to change her mind and win her heart, without revealing who he truly is?

Samuel knows that he is playing with fire, with the beautiful and opinionated Miss Lavinia Beaumont. But as the stakes are raised, and the deception deepens, they must face the truth about themselves or risk losing any chance of love or happiness. Can they find a way to finally resolve their differences and eventually reveal themselves, as they truly are?

"Falling for the Mysterious Viscount" is a historical romance novel of approximately 80,000 words. No cheating, no cliffhangers, and a guaranteed happily ever after.

Sweet Romance... with complications.

I always appreciate a clean regency romance. That's what earned it 3 stars. This story was simple if a bit frustrating at times. There were some inconsistencies that bothered me. Samuel goes to London disguised as a commoner. He hasn't been to London in "many years" and doesn't see anyone he knows. Then he mentions that he is 28 and had attended "many London seasons" with "thousands" of opportunities to marry. It left me wondering how young he was when he first attended??? That he could attend many seasons, be gone from London for many years, and have no one in London recognize him for the first half of the book. I wonder about the editing side of the story creation.
As long as I'm complaining... a kind editor really should have curtailed the use of the word "gasp". The main heroine is constantly gasping. Then she is gasping internally. Then her sister gasps less often and finally, it is the heroe's turn to gasp! The overuse of the expression was distracting.
Still, a cheerful escape if that suits your mood.

Immaturity Wreaks Havoc on 💘Love!
Jealousy👿, misunderstanding, plain stupidity, immaturity👸, and arrogance wreak havoc on a budding love between Lavinia💃💋, and her object of fascination and true 💘love, Samuel🐺🍆⛲🔪, the Viscount of Pemberton.

Ok. Ok. Some of this is Samuel's🐺 fault as he deceived Lavinia💃💋 somewhat in the beginning by representing himself as a commoner. But he was always very forthright in his expression of 💘Love and caring for her. That never changed.

ARC Provided by Author📚 Barton via Amazon Free.
Opinions Expressed here are completely my own.

Angst! Angst! Angst! This is a whole book of angst filled moments and plenty of 😢tears from a young woman in her first season in society. The angst even rubs off on Samuel🐺 as he tries to repeatedly convince a near hysterical and unheeding Lavinia💃💋 that his love💕 is true.

This is a most enjoyable double romance about two sisters, Livia and Sophie, who have very different opinions on love and marriage. The characters are all interesting and fun and the plot is reasonable and twisty. Very entertaining!

ONE EXTREMELY ENJOYABLE TREAT!!!
Waltzing home! Bridget rocks this baby to the core, tossing out every challenge, provocation, competition or proposition, seizing the reigns and assuming control, fusing this gem together beautifully. Sparks fly as drama, intrigue, turmoil, deceit, suspense and disastrous situations along with a boatload of secrets, makes for one mind-blowing adventure. Satisfying is an understatement, this baby plays by its own rules. A surging tempest of stunning events and baffling circumstances, blow this gem apart, exposing one eye-opening culmination. The undeniable attraction and intense chemistry sizzles as each layer is peeled back exposing a deep connection and amplifying affections, binding them to one another beautifully. You feel everything the characters feel, become a part of the story instead of on the sidelines. The dynamics and presentation in layer upon layer that you peel back with each page your drawn into this web so deep until everything else ceases to exist. The scenes are strikingly sharp with abundant details and descriptions, as to give you a full understanding and realism that flows smoothly. Amazing job Bridget, thanks for sharing this little guy with us.

Delightful

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Bridget Barton has created rich characters who wrestled with their emotions and expectations, and I was fully engaged with them all. I devoured the book in one sitting because I just couldn’t wait to find out which way each of them would decide to go. The dialogue is written exceptionally well, not stiff or too formal like a lot of Regency Era books tend to be. Conversations flow smoothly, and inner thoughts are a natural part of the characters’ personalities. Their mental anguish was palpable.
The story moves at a nice measured pace as it unfolds. If you like Regency Romance, I believe you’ll enjoy this book. Not too heavy, with HEA.

On a personal note, I’m sad that the author has opted to join others in the practice of manipulating readers into giving their email address to read the entire story. It’s not right. I didn’t read the extended epilogue.

I found this while looking for a fun, clean historical romance. But honestly, I was pretty disappointed. Most of the book was filled with silly misunderstandings which kept the characters apart just to pad out the page count. The only part I truly enjoyed were the friendships between Lavinia and her sister and Samuel and his best friend. The romance was entirely insta-love (they met three times and then were entirely in love...okay), and since the entire book centered around the effects of this insta-love, I couldn't really enjoy the book. It was an interesting premise of a viscount who decides to disguise himself as a commoner to find a woman who loves him for who he is and not his wealth, but the execution fell flat for me.

A great read, I was right there with the characters, the feelings and tears as well as laughter were very real. Many frustrations along the way with unexpected twists and turns cause the story to almost turn upside down. There are some repeat information that slows the narrative at times but it picks right back up to run this adventure for two sisters who think they know what they want from their season in London. Can deceit be the way to get through the season for two gentlemen who have had enough of being ingenuously pursued, one for title and wealth and the other not at all for the lack thereof? Read and find out. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

What a great regency romance. Have you ever wanted to pretend you were someone else? In this story, a viscount is tired of people acknowledging him just because of his society status. He pretends to be a middle class gentleman. Lavina falls in love with Samuel Hunter. Will she forgive him when she finds out he is a Viscount? Will Samuel come clean and tell her who he really is? Even if Lavina despises the uppity noble class? What of Lavina's older sister, Sophia? Will she be able to find true love? Can she be happy with someone who is not of the noble class? Find out in this beautifully written story! I highly recommend it! Happy Reading!

Two sisters, two different desires for their lives only to find that their assumptions, pride and prejudices kept them from falling in love with their eternal soul mate. There is so much emotional upheaval, so many reality checks, the fight of the conscience from staying with the expected or following their heart that went against what they always believed. I loved the storyline and subplot. The main characters and the secondary supporting characters were very realistic and easy to relate to. They were well written and had wonderful personalities. An exciting tale. One not to miss and I do recommend it.

Sweet story

What a fun story to read! Being able to follow sisters Sophie and Lavinia as they traverse the challenges of the London Season in order to find suitable matches was a more unique take on a romance story than I have read. Both girls had decided what type of match they wanted, and it was intriguing to watch the realities of life unfold so differently than what they expected. The twists and turns kept the story moving and me wanting to see what happened next. Having a story mainly revolve around one character, but needing the sister to fully tell the tale was fun to read. Two happily ever afters was certainly a bonus.

Lavinia and Samuel are two young people disillusioned and irritated by the ton. Lavinia is tired of being treated with no respect and no credit for her intelligence. Samuel has had it with the young ladies who’s only interest is in his title and wealth. Both Lavinia and Samuel decide they will seek out companionship and their own terms. Bridget Barton, once again, weaves a tale that brings out the best and intrigue in her characters. Will they find their HEA while resolving their differences? Read on, you won’t be disappointed.

Bridget Barton’s Falling for the Mysterious Viscount is a delicious historical Regency Period romance. I totally understand why Samuel felt the need to go undercover (red the publisher’s blurb to know what I’m talking about), but it’s fun seeing how it backfires and how his romance with the lovely, bookish and beautiful Lavinia proceed. An absolute pleasure to read, and one that I highly recommend.

Excellent book

If you love surprises at the beginning of a book and a happy ending at the end you will love this book for sure. This book is about 2 sisters and 2 best friends that come to London for the season. Each of the sisters have a preconceived notion of their ideas of what will make a suitable husband but they meet up with the best friends everything changes for the better.

sweet and clean

This story tells of how Lavinia meets Samuel think he is a man with no title. When she finds out different she turns to another in her disappointment. In the end Samuel and her have their hea.
I wasn’t a fan of Lavinia as she seemed rather hypocritical being that she had no problem liking another nobleman, despite her opinion she shad no use for noblemen. I wasn’t impressed with her this the three stsr. It was a clean read though.

Interesting story of romance.

When two sisters, Lavinia and Sophie, go to London for the social season, they are not sure what they will find. Sophie was previously introduced. It is Lavinia's first season. Lavinia is convinced she should marry for love. Sophie believes she needs to marry a titled man with money and power. And then they meet Samuel and Walter. Fun story.

This was a very good story, and I did enjoy it. It's been a while since I read a 'true' regency, so it took me a while to get past how protected & truly naive the women of that era were, but the main character, with all of that, was stubborn and steadfast in ideals that mattered to her. Recommend to anyone who likes the true Regency style of writing.

This family-friendly Regency romance demands either one EXTREMELY long day or dividing up to follow Miss Sophia Beaumont and Miss Lavinia Beaumont in their encounters with Samuel, Viscount Pemberton AKA Samuel Hunter and Mr. Walter St Clair, solicitor's assistant, during the London Season of 1816.

So slow

I was so happy to finish this book it was so slow and to long and too many faults there is no way men dressed as commoners would have been allowed in those ballrooms and dinner party’s and as to getting to Brighton and back in a day in coach and horse’s no way.

Even my 7 year old wanted to read it.

I enjoyed this book as did my 7 year old. I am pleased to find that this is not a steamy novel. It was riveting. I did not want to stop reading. We took turns reading and would love to see a book 2.

A SWEET ENDEARING TALE

This is truly a happy story taking place in 1816. With the bumps in the road along the way. One thing, however. Swan lake was performed for the fist time in 1877, in Moscow. So Laguna could not have previously seen it.
