Nursing a broken heart and wounded spirit, Kendra McKaslin vowed to make a fresh start-alone. But then everything changed when handsome sheriff Cameron Durango showed up at her run-down riding stable to give her some much-needed business. Seeing this honorable lawman again brought all those locked-away memories flooding back. For he alone knew the secret of her past relationship-and she'd always cherish his exquisite kindness during that night when things had gone terribly wrong. Now, as Cameron gathered her in his strong, sheltering arms to offer her love and comfort, the irresistibly charmed small-town girl wondered if having him here was a sign from heaven. Could all of her dreams finally be coming true?
Jillian Hart grew up on her family's homestead in Washington state, where she raised cattle, rode horses and scribbled stories in her spare time. After earning her English degree from Whitman College, she worked in travel and advertising before selling her first novel. When Jillian isn't working on her next story, she can be found puttering around her rose garden, curled up with a good book and spending quiet evenings at home with her family.
I enjoy Jillian Hart's books. They are sweet, clean stories, and this was no exception. Kendra is the 4th of the 5 McKaslin sisters, and the one least likely to find love. Because of an abusive relationship in her past, she has sworn to herself that she will never trust a man again. At the same time, and especially as she sees her sisters happy and completely in love with their husbands, the ache she feels for marriage and a family of her own can't be denied. Enter widower and town sheriff, Cameron Durango. He is determined to break past Kendra's defenses and teach her that a good man uses his strength to protect and cherish, and never for harm.
Kendra McKaslin, one of the five McKaslin girls is the subject of this novel. She has her heart set against love and marriage and is very steadfast in her decisions. She has a full life with her loving family and her best friends-her horses. Cameron tries hard to change her mind, but she is determined. Read this tender story to see what happens and why.
The only thing I feel this book is lacking is a little more detail about the incident in Kendra's past. I'm not asking for a minute-by-minute replay of the traumatic event, but more information would have been very nice. Aside from that, this book is an absolutely fantastic read :)
Even though a lot of her books are predictable; it is so easy too understand that the characters are feeling even if you have never experienced it yourself.
I really liked it! Man, poor Cam, but I was impressed with his dedication. I also thought Kendra was finally going to tell her family what happened, but she didn't. The ending was great :)

I loved this book just as much as the first book of hers that I read. I had a hard time putting the book down for work or sleep. Looking forward to reading some of her other books I just ordered.
