Inexperienced detective Ruby Knight is thrown a curve ball when a spate of burglaries results in a homicide.

Commuters to the sleepy suburban town of St. Albans become alarmed when a series of aggravated burglaries begins.

DC Knight and her new partner, experienced but cynical DI Cooper, are in charge of tracking the gang responsible. But the pressure mounts as the attacks become increasingly violent.

They pull out all the stops to catch them, but in the meantime another type of criminal sees an opportunity.

Will DC Knight be able to separate the wheat from the chaff and see the facts for what they are, or will pressure from on high to solve the case let a dangerous individual off the hook?

SCORNED is the second book in the DC Ruby Knight investigations series.

I’m a British author covering a variety of genres but one thing links them all: concerns with the humanity. Whether it’s the greed of individuals, happy to risk what they have in the pursuit of more, or people’s indifference to the ills that blight society, so long as they are not directly affected themselves, each of my books has a dark undertone.

I don’t write to change the world but perhaps my work serves to shine a spotlight on those aspects which trouble me the most. What I really seek to do is to entertain and engross. Literature finds itself with ever more competition with the different ways people can fill their leisure time, and yet no other media can spark the imagination in quite the same way.

A good plot can only become compelling if the characters are rich and varied. My books are always written from their perspective and whether you find yourself rooting for them or not, you will care what happens. They are, similarly, single greatest thing that keeps me writing. I may have created these people but they take on a life of their own and often surprise me with the directions they choose.

If you are a voracious reader who can’t get through the day without picking up a book, or just someone seeking a dose of fiction to accompany them beside the pool on holiday, there is much to find and enjoy in my work.

Compelling, addictive and irresistible - Very highly recommended second book featuring D.C Ruby Knight.

So good that I got actual chills! It’s extremely exciting, it’s hard to stop reading it too quickly because you want to devour the whole book, but you kind of want to slow down as well so that you don’t finish the book! D.C.Ruby Knight is my favourite heroine right now, she’s young, hungry, quick-minded, astute and unafraid to take the lead and follow her intuition. If you’ve read The Deep End, or even if not, you’d be crazy not to read this. Please, please keep writing these fantastic books, Denver Murphy! Thank you.

Another excellent read from Denver

I loved this book! It’s my new favourite. Great tension around who has died (hope that’s not a spoiler!).Ruby reminds me of my daughter, she’s hot headed and determined like she is.

Only one way, and that's the "Knight" way

This is the second DC Ruby Knight book I have read. I have enjoyed them both. Ruby is the bull at a gate type of person. Her instincts are normally correct, so she is a good detective. However, she goes about things in the completely wrong manner. In this case, alienating her partner, her boss, and potentially her bosses boss. However, Knights detective instincts are what make her a good one. A break-in that involves serious injury is handed to DC Knight and her partner DC Cooper to resolve. Whilst that is happening, a further 2 break-ins occur one resulting in murder. Ruby needs to get to the bottom of all this but is forced to contradict both her partner and her boss when they don't see things as she does. Good tale and interesting outcome. Very enjoyable read

This is a great story with interesting characters, an intriguing setting and a gripping plot. I enjoyed the internal dynamics of the police team and of the gang of criminals they are pursuing. I found the book impossible to set aside once I started reading it, and you will find yourself racing through it as well!

Ruby Knight and get partner's latest case in gruesome. The perspective giving us a perspective of a killer's point of view. And the story of a woman wanting revenge against her husband is excellently brought out. Gripping read.

The suspense concerning each incident is good, but maybe a bit drawn out toward the end. I was surprised when the story ended. Of course we knew who the guilty parties were, but it would have served more of a closure if DC Ruby Knight summarized the various arrests and punishments.

Intuition and Doggedness Prevail

Revenge and robbery weave into multiples sets of homicides with disparate motives - with women both conniving and too clever for their own good.

Following on from his previous book, Denver Murphy bring us another case for Detective Ruby Knight. Will she be able to catch up to the people behind a spate of break in that end in murder?
Several plots twist together to keep you guessing as to how they will finally come together. We get to see the thought process of the criminals as well as Ruby as we follow this cate and mouse trail around the city.
The book gets inside the head of some terrible people and ask questions about why people commit crimes. Give it a read!
