What happens when you think you have everything, except the one you can’t live without?
Lucy Rawcliffe is a high-achieving academic in London, living an independent and fulfilled life, far removed from her suffocating upbringing, on the cusp of promotion.
Cain Adams is a successful songwriter, travelling regularly between his home in North Cornwall and his life in Tennessee. He’s finally on the verge of his own recording career.
Can true love really happen in only one moment? Will they settle for everything, except each other?
I fell in love with EVERYTHING, EXCEPT YOU, a charming contemporary romance where Lucy, an English Literature professor from London, falls for Caine, a singer/songwriter who splits his time between Nashville, Tennessee and Cornwall, England. After a few mishaps and missed connections at first, Lucy and Caine quickly settle into a swoony romance. ❤❤
But as much as they can imagine a future together, things are complicated by two demanding careers and an ocean between them. This novel would make the perfect beach reach as it’s full of fun, touristy destinations and lighthearted scenes that make for an easy, relaxing read. 🏖 I curled up with it on a day when I wasn’t feeling my best and it was the perfect light romance to take me away to other destinations and happier times. Favorite moments: all the great 80’s film references 😊, bacon and pancakes🥞, a romantic date with sketches in the park and Chinese food, Christmas markets🎄, shopping trips to Bloomingdales and makeovers, fish and chips and board games. I’m excited to see the series will continue with Jammin and Elle! ❤❤
A feel-good cosy romance story about two passionate souls…
It can be quite a challenge to put together a slow burning romance that doesn’t appear over indulgent or even sickly but Emma Jordan hits all the right notes in this wonderful cosy love story about two creative souls crossing paths. After their chance encounter, ‘Lucy’ and ‘Cain’ along with their lives are never the same, from picturesque west English west country surroundings to the big cities of New York and London this tale takes the reader and their romance on a journey. Their individual interests from Country Music to 80’s films fit together much like a cosy glove. Many aspects of their backgrounds are polar opposites from family to even career aspirations, even their flaws are perfect but this is a fictional escape after all.
‘Everything, Except You’ is a well-executed story about two people and their lives that are made better for finding each other and the way in which they discover a love for each other. From the initial meeting, to the waiting and eventually breaking down of defensive barriers, the set up to pay off is wonderfully done. I don’t think there was a dull moment throughout the sometimes dramatic but always eventful story that is uniquely told from both perspectives. As these two passionate souls find love in their busy lives they eventually come to realise it. This is not only a great advert for love and romance books but life in general because to me, love is always the answer.
Everything, Except You by Emma Jordan is a modern day Gift of the Magi. What would you do for love? What would you give up? This couple’s journey is ‘everything’ you want in a romance novel.
Take a 19th century romantics academic (Lucy), add in a popular country music star (Cain), mix in an addiction to 80’s movies (yes, I bought a few after reading) and you get a delicious sweet romance that will spike your interest from page one to the Happily Ever After.
“I’ll be eating irony and drinking misery!” Jordan has a way with phraseology, it’s fun, it’s witty, it’s a little snarky and makes the pages of this book fly. The main characters are people you want to know and root for. Oh, and the obstacles they face — you’ll be anxious!
This debut romance will have you following this author clamoring for the next in the series. Trust me.
I picked this up experimentally, as I've not read many romances. Currently about halfway through. It's enjoyable and easily digestible, but romance is not really my genre!
I loved this book! It was just what I wanted from a romance book; 80’s movie references to make me feel nostalgic, two adorable characters to give me warm tingling sensations and a great story! So glad I have found this author :-)
This was a complete change from my usual picks, and no bad thing for that - if you love romance that picks you up and sweeps you along as you read, then I have no doubt you'll love this!
I have clearly been reading thrillers and true crime for too long - I struggled to stop waiting for the bad thing to happen or the bad people to pop up and create mayhem. The main characters both have things in their past they are leaving behind and trying to recover from, but these are given a fairly light touch so as not to get in the way of the romance. This is pure escapism and who doesn't need a little of that sometimes?
I did finish the story and can see how this is the start of what I am sure will be a very entertaining and popular series. I have dipped my toe and will now be heading back to darker corners and choppier waters for a bit. This was nice for a change up!
I picked this up on a camp site book swap weeks ago, them yesturday decided to give it a try, one day later I've read it .. I loved this book held my attention right from the first page ...
