Now I'm back in Muckle Cove digging into her murder.
They say coming home is never easy, but what I'm finding goes so much deeper than anyone could have imagined. Ancient magic, modern politics, and my mother's ghost all point to some truth in the past that could change my present forever.
Here find a mystery plus a main character worthy of the reader's respect. Emlem is an investigative reporter just beginning to discover the mystery behind the original mystery she is working on as well as learning her top notch instincts are something quite a bit more interesting.
The character development is quite good, but it is the multilayered plot that takes center stage. It moves fast and kept me swiping pages on my iPad Mini as quickly as I could read, but is so well paced the story never feels rushed. The editing is excellent.
Content: —If a reader has a history of trauma due to personal violence, the content may be triggering. —There is romantic heat, but no sexual intimacy, not even behind closed doors. —There is violence and mention of past violence, but only a minimum of details. —There's a handful of coarse words, but it is not at all these people's usual way of expressing themselves.
The story stops where most of current plot threads are resolved and new threads have emerged leading into book two. The thread involving the main character's abilities is left open ended, which has me looking forward to the next book, yet this fits the overall story arc as it is far too soon for her to be all-knowing and perfectly skilled in her abilities. There is no cliffhanger.
The only sour note is one of the main character's top enemies outs themselves in a way that is completely out of character. There is nothing indicating they are nearing a breaking point, plus they have a weapon in a situation and place where there is absolutely no way any weapon would be allowed through the door. That bit of the plot deserved to handled better, in line with quality of the rest of the writing. I left off one star for this and because I like to save 5 stars for books that are not only very well done, but include home truths and other content that leaves me enriched and uplifted.
This is a well-written, tightly plotted, satisfying read. Happy reading! ~Jane
It took a little while to suck me in but I am glad I kept reading. I loved the character development of Cullen and Connor. And the twist was a good one I was not expecting. Looking forward to book 2.
Nice character development, the relationship between the brothers is good. The story took a twist at the end which was well done. Looking forward to book 2 and the journey as Em discovers her powers.
I started this book believing I was reading a suspense mystery by an author I recently discovered and liked. But it is so much more then a murder mystery. In Rememberance T. K. Eldrige has woven magic, fantasy, and a lot of history of the Templar Knights. Eldridge writes with such style, that you are sucked into story from the first page and are reluctant to leave. Remembrance has plenty of edge of your seat action. There is also enough twists and turns to keep you guessing as to who are the evil doers. Spoiler alert: it does end in a cliffhanger! But I just put T.K. Eldridge on my must read shelf so as I clear my To Be Read shelf, I will add more of the Descendants series!
This starts off as a murder mystery with a lack luster love interest. Then it morphs into a past of magic and secrets. Then it becomes about power. I felt the author could have done a better job of working the magic angle. Actually shown Emlen ability more. Maybe have the brothers understand magic or have some training as a Garda. Less intrigue and more answers. Because by the end, it just didn't make sense why she was going to meet her father at this huge gala. It was just odd and seemed like the author didn't know how to put it all together but needed a climactic ending. I get where she was going but it didn't flow correctly.
I've had this book in my library for a while and finally got round to reading it and I'm glad I did. It pulled me in from the start and I didn't realise that it was about Emlen's magic till well into the story. Politics and power seemed to be the motivation behind the murders and then religion and magical descendants were also introduced into the equation along with organisations trying to preserve the Descendant bloodline. Not sure what the cat had to do with it or what happened to him after the fire or whether his name was Barabas or Barabus, perhaps find out later.
Very little explained or resolved, just set up for the next book. While it was clear from the start that this would be a series usually there is at least a resolution of a problem or situation. The characters are particularly moody and snappish even when someone is helping them. Lack of communication is the cause of a few deaths and harm. What happened to the cat? Emlan does not even ask.
I really like this book. It was very well written. I really like the characters and the plot, the mystery and suspense was pretty good. It had a nice flow to it. Personally, I would have liked more magic, paranormal, fantasy, or whatever you want to call it. But, otherwise I would recommend it.
Emlen's mother was murdered when Em was three and naturally, Em has few memories of the event. As an adult she is trying to use her journalistic skills to dig deep and find out the truth.
Although the blurb talks about magic, the story is more about political power and the power of money.
Love comes from people who care rather than from those who just want power.
Enjoyed the book. Emlen has seen her mother's murder when she was young and she is trying to forget it. Now an adult, she is an investigative journalist and she uses her skills to solve the cases. The murder mystery woven in the story was fast-paced and the plot keeps you guessing all the way. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
A great mystery with some paranormal activity two guys and a girl. It is fast paced because a s a reader I could not put it down until I reached the end. This is the beginning of a series. This writer is new to me but she is a five star author. Reading this book will be a treat for anyone who enjoys reading.
The story would have been just fine without the conspiracy theory of descendants from long ago folk heros or the like. Throwing in the clergy and guarda to protect Emma was not necessary for a good read. The main characters stood on their own and the novel could have been completed with just them.
A young woman returns to the small coastal town where her mother was murdered years before. Desperate to find the truth she finds love, betrayal and a mystical heritage.
This was an okay read. The romance was predictable, the mystical heritage just silly. It started with promise but quickly devolved into fantasy that failed to entertain.
Written for a late teen, this author combines a murder mystery and a bit of fantasy to make some very enjoyable reading. This is book one so it is mostly setting the scene for the actual story, mostly.
Thought it was to far fetched to follow. Entering the Vatican was more real than the 50 generations of mystical powers. The are a lofty bunch with massive powers never proven but realistic.
I wish I could have been as gutsy as Emmy at that age. I don’t know that I’d say talking to ghosts was magic, but maybe in book 2, she develops actual magic. It’s certainly intriguing enough to buy book 2, which I just did.
I was enthralled with Emlin's background and the burgeoning romance between Cullen and Emlin. The blood relatives who took Emlin in confused me in that they kept her alive.
This series is well written and keeps you in suspense as to what's going to happen next. I would recommend this series to my family and friends. I can't wait to read the next book in this series.
Interesting plot. good story, and characters. A nice twist at the end. This is a series book so there is not a clear ending; some series I will follow because they are too good not to, this isn't one that grabbed me that much. I may read the next in the series.
Really enjoyed reading this book. Loved all the suspense. Trying to figure out what was going on and who and why they were trying to kill anyone associated with Every is such a mystery. Highly recommend reading. Looking forward to reading the next in the series.
New author on my library shelves and enjoyed the first novel to this series. Worthy start and a cliffhanger ending. Looking forward to your next addition.
