The Christmas Escape

Rate this book
Cosy up with a romantic festive novella from the Irish Times #1 bestselling author.

Libby is feeling taken for granted and unappreciated. As always, the festive decorating, food shopping and arrangements for the yearly family Christmas get-together have been left to her - probably because she’s the only one of her siblings who’s still single.

Even though her boss has tasked her with a marketing presentation for an important client due the week before Christmas, her family expect her to be on call for their every domestic whim.
But when their thoughtlessness results in Libby losing her big shot at promotion, it’s the last straw.

Thoroughly fed up, she makes an impulsive decision to get away and spend the holidays on her own this year; somewhere a world away from small-town Christmas Central ...

This was exactly what I was looking for today - a Hallmark movie in novella form. A quick read to get in the Christmas spirit. Cheesy with soft romance, something light and easy to read. Some minor editing errors and Libby seriously has the worst family 😂 but I enjoyed the overall message of the story and thought it was a great holiday novella. I’d love to read more about Rob & Libby!

Meet our main character Libby, orphaned under tragic circumstances and taken for granted by siblings she is not feeling very appreciated. So she decides to take a break from her real life (I wish I had unlimited money) because she’s a big office girl and can afford to. What does she do for work exactly? Office girl stuff - because she’s just as valuable as a man. (Period 💅🏻)

Off she goes to Hawaii where she may or may not (she does) meet a rude Hawaiian resident running a B&B. She’s not answering her family’s calls, she’s not responding to work emails, and she IS sunbathing. Even better…there might be more that that rude guy than her first impression.

🌺 Thoughts pulled straight from my notes app:
Cringey immediately.
Out of pocket parent death
Too much minute details
Written like a children’s book (esp page 12)
NOT THE SURF LESSONS FOR A CHRISTMAS DEAL
Love interst is a little creepy 😵‍💫
The characters are in their thirties but the writing is soooo ya

The only reason I finished it was bc it was a book club pick! And it gets 1.5 because it was so bad it was a little comical. 🫠

No language or adult scenes

I’m not always one for short stories but sometimes they are prefect to fill in a gap between longer books.

Anyway this was a lovely entertaining story set around Christmas but not overly festive. I enjoyed getting to know the main character of Libby and all the others. The story was quick and well written and could easily have been made into a full length novel, which a part of me wanted. Still enjoyed it though.

Wow, I didn't realise this was an ultra short novel when I started, what a disappointment. Zero development or storyline, it just zipped along and then ended. I can't actually believe this nothingness was published. I can't help but think fleshing out why she needed an escape in the first place, and ending with her boarding a plane would've been a better story. And the snowy cover is completely wrong for a Christmas in Hawaii. Disappointed I saved this for my Christmas book this year.

Christmas Escape

This was another great read from this author. Libby is always doing for others and not expecting anything in return. When she misses out on a big account she decided enough is enough. This was a heart felt read that makes you realize where you are you can bring Christmas back to others. Looking forward to reading more books from this author

Libby was a tool. I got so mad reading the beginning of this novel. Especially after the fiasco with her brother Andy (the perfect name by the way for a tool of a human). Anyways I was overjoyed when she packed her bags and left for her perfect Christmas where she found love.
In my opinion, she should have stayed to spend Christmas day.

That was the shortest book I've read in a very long time 😅, I didn't realise when I chose it. However it did the trick of a feel good Christmas tale with a romantic theme and a happy ending. I've read a few psychological murder thrillers recently that I just need some feel good romance thrown in. This has set the pace nicely and I have a similar (longer one) set up for my next read 🥰♥️👍

The Christmas Escape: A heartwarming Christmas read for 2019. Libby is feeling down and taken for granted. Everyone depends on her and she is tired of it. She takes a vacation and escapes all of his daily life. Very Good.

This was such a sweet, festive read. Featuring a a family who doesn’t appreciate the lead, people trying to find light after dark times and a slow burn romance what isn’t there to love? I absolutely sped through this read!

I wanted a better ending to see if they did make it an what happened to them as a couple. She also needed to distance herself from her family...they were toxic.
