Jesus wants to walk with you and talk with you in quiet moments each day. In the sound of His voice you’ll find assurance that you are His own, and He will bring a song to your heart. Each reading in this collection of Our Daily Bread meditations will remind you that God is interested in every aspect of your life and that He delights in having a relationship with you. Come, walk with Him.
After a good Lent / Easter devotional, my wife and I picked up this volume to continue our daily practice.
Though beautifully bound, with a warm, approachable feel, the contents leave me very much disappointed and hungering for a more intimate, even bigger view of God!
We read the first day, corresponding to the date of Easter, and found it particularly tedious. Curious, I read the next day's devotion with the same result. To give the volume the benefit, I read (5) different devotions on either side of Sunday, and only one was intriguing. As an interesting point, I never knew the author of a classic and profound story of a disheveled college student and church deacon until now - Dennis DeHaan. Otherwise, each day looks inward to one's OWN life and the status of SELF. God feels incidental to your own welfare, and the intellectual rubrics of faith come through far stronger than any relationship with God, or vision for living a life in faith (with the notable exception of the story of the student and deacon).
Please find another devotional which challenges your faith! If you believe Christ is your personal Lord and savior, then grow from there and build that relationship! If you are trying to understand God in your life, find a devotional (better yet, teacher) who exercises and nurtures your faith, not just feeds you sterile doctrine to be memorized.
I was immediately hooked when the opening page of this devotional contained lyrics from “ In the Garden”, a beautiful hymn I remember from childhood. My enjoyment continued as I found today’s date and read the devotion about our assurance of Heaven with Jesus, including a scripture reading, and connection of the scripture to everyday life, and a point to remember.
I love that each devotion is long enough to have real substance, yet short enough to easily incorporate into my morning routine. I also appreciate that the devotional focuses on the importance of developing a real relationship with Jesus, not simply following the “rules of religion”, because being a Christian is so much more than a list of rules. It’s an opportunity to walk hand in hand with the Creator.
Thanks go to NetGalley and Discovery House for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
"And He walks with me" is a Christian Living book. We all need to refresh and renew our daily Christian life. This book gives a scripture reading and an personal story to apply to the passage. The readings are great for busy people. They point the reader closer to the Lord. The readings are not long. The devotionals are done by different people. The devotionals are for all ages and for men and women. Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for allowing me to read and review this book. The opinions I have given are my own.
