From the bestselling author of The Social Affair and HER comes a riveting new thriller about a writer desperate to make a comeback who realizes that success may cost more than he can afford to pay when a stranger arrives at his door.

George is bitter. As he should be. Once a household name, George is dying to make a comeback, and death may be the only option left to get the public’s attention. Ask anyone, his life is unraveling at the seams. Meanwhile, his new apprentice is everything he is not.

The enigmatic man his publisher sends to help is young and ambitious, with looks that could kill, and possibly do.

When George discovers that his apprentice’s talent extends beyond fixing broken plots, that his winning formula may, in fact, be a result of making the crimes in his novels come to life, George has to ask himself how much he is willing to overlook to achieve mainstream success.

Perfectly paced, The Book Doctor is an electrifying psychological thriller about a life’s work, obsession, and the dangerous places ambition can take you. Full of enough tension and twists to make even the most seasoned suspense reader break out in a cold sweat, it keeps you guessing until the very last page.

Grab a drink. Settle in. I’ve got a quick story for you.

It starts, as most good stories do, with someone chasing a feeling.

Picture a Texas writer surrounded by five kids, two literary dogs, one unreasonable cat, and a partridge in a pear tree—all orbiting a household powered by caffeine, chaos, and sheer willpower.

Instead of getting into trouble in real life, she decided to invent it on the page. (Healthier for everyone. Mostly.)

She didn’t set out to write the perfect thriller, but she has been chasing a certain feeling for years—chasing the perfect story.

The kind that makes you miss your exit, burn your dinner, or stay up later than you meant to.
The kind that makes a reader say “just one more chapter” and lie to themselves beautifully.

Some writers chase awards.
Britney chases that feeling.

You might call it persistence.
She calls it passion—the only real secret ingredient behind thirty-plus books and counting.
Always reaching for whatever that elusive green-light moment is.

She hasn’t caught it yet.
But that’s half the fun.

Everything has its rhythm. Everything has a story to tell. And everything eventually finds its way back around.

The Book Doctor is a creepy read about a writer who whatever he writes, comes true. Despite guessing the plot early on, still, it was a page-turner and an enjoyable one. It’s fast-paced with a satisfying ending and contains short chapters. I liked the writing and read it in one sitting. All in all, I had a good time reading this and hope you enjoy it as well (and I think you will if you’re looking for a crazy ride)!

Favorite Quotes:

Not that I’d call myself an alcoholic. But that doesn’t stop other people from doing it. From my agent, to my editor, to the garbage man, everyone has their opinions.

Bad decisions are written in permanent ink. Life cannot be reversed.

I realize I am seconds away from passing out. It’s funny how it isn’t until words are taken from you that you realize how many you have left to say.

No one is coming to save me. It’s only wishful thinking. Hope will suffocate you if you let it.

Trying to make a crazy person understand they’re crazy is a losing game. Believe me, I know.

My Review:

I do loves me some Britney King. She has her own uniquely clever, highly observant, and inherently crafty style and churns out riveting psychological thrillers that I seem to have developed quite a thirst for. But, man oh man! Based on the inner musings of her killers, she must be one twisted sister! I adore her smart snark, brilliant sociopaths, and wily sense of humor. The pacing and plotting of her tales are pure genius. Her name will undoubtedly remain on my list of favorites into perpetuity… that is unless she starts writing about zombies, as I despise zombies with the heat of a thousand suns.

Q:
How can you possibly tell a good story if you don’t live one?” (c)

An eerie guy ghostwrites (or is this a case of writersitting?) while pursuing a lot of his other hobbies… Hobbies of the sort law keeps frowning upon in all countries.
Another guy gets his wifey's tender mercies (liberally applied baseball bat, knifes, beatings… ). Not sure why no one informs her when she's able to think straight of what she does when manic.
The ending wasn't wrapped up nicely. I'm pretty sure the twist was supposed to be awesome. Well, it doesn't really make sense, so, 3 stars?
Q:
After breakfast she said she was exhausted and wanted to take a nap. I suppose this is to be expected when you’ve stayed up all night trying to kill your husband. (c) Hell, yeah. Exhausting business.

Some nice ideas on writing:
Q:
“There are five things you should know about writing. One: never be afraid to write about something that has had every last word written about it. It’s not your something until you write about it. Two: there is nothing more interesting than the truth. Three: start with your interests. Chances are you aren’t the only person on the planet with a certain palate. Four: your weaknesses are your strengths. Five: approach situations in which you feel out of your depth with sincere curiosity. Those are the handful of things I know to be true about this vocation. But there’s one last thing, and perhaps the most important—activity does not make a story. Observation is what makes a story. How many people do you know who travel all the time but have nothing to say? Hell, I know people who went on vacation last week. They have nothing interesting to say about it. Don’t be boring. Pay attention. Stories are everywhere just waiting to be found. And finally, living is making peace with the fact that you are very likely going to be the villain in someone else’s story, even if you believed you were doing the right things. One of the most surprising things about life is the realization that you don’t get to tell other people how to narrate their experience.” (c)

Fun:
Q:
“You see? This is what happens when a person doesn’t know their own limits.” (c)
Q:
Then he smacks me with the barrel of the gun. ... “Write.”…
I spit a broken tooth onto the keyboard. “I told you. I can’t.” (c)
Q:
“What do you think?”
What I’m thinking is maybe it’s impossible to survive a man like him. (c)
Q:
Whatever she was looking for— answers, a home, love, all of the above—I wanted to make sure she found it. (c)
Q:
Women always put up with things way longer than they should. Maybe there’s a school where they take little girls aside and teach them this, I don’t know. Maybe it’s the fairy tales. (c)
Q:
It’s almost too much, thinking about it now, thinking about how many significant life moments we share with people we will probably never see again. Whether we like it or not, we’re all walking through life carrying snippets of each other’s stories woven neatly in the fabric of who we have become. (c)
Q:
“I have a room upstairs…”
“I have a car waiting to take me home.” (c)
Q:
No one can tell you how much free time you have when you suddenly become childless and your wife hates you, but I can assure you, it’s a lot. (c)
Q:
I’ve always found the best way to deal with regret is to start over again, fresh. (c)
Q:
It’s always been people with a kind of laissez-faire attitude who interest me most. It’s as though the whole world could be falling apart and so what? (c)

Sad pic. Too sad that parts of this are not reserved just for the US:
Q:
Let's consider the typical American female: she can't balance a checkbook, knows all the Kardashians but not her kid's middle school teachers, can't find Iraq on a map, can't name the past six presidents, thinks the U.S. won the Vietnam War. She pays someone to mow her lawn so she can free up time to walk on a treadmill at the gym, then spends twenty minutes looking for a parking space. She waits in two lines to pay six dollars for a sixty-nine cent cup of coffee just so she can enter her office with a sixteen ounce "symbol of conformity" in her hand. She can't name her state's senators, doesn't know what a mutual fund is, has never heard of Douglas MacArthur. She spends more money on her hair and nails than retirement savings and has been brainwashed to think a man on a white horse is coming to save her. (c)
Q:
Unfortunately, her fate was sealed. She liked baths, and she lived alone. She left windows open and made questionable choices in pets. (c)
Q:
Most marriages don’t survive the death of a child. Ours has survived three. (c)
Q:
People like to feel smart. There’s nothing quite as satisfying as being right, proving that righteousness can be bottled and sold. (c)

I am always impressed at how Britney King can churn out so many thrillers and have them be these well-thought-out works of art, and I felt the same way about The Book Doctor: A Psychological Thriller!

The Book Doctor is not going to be for you squeamish readers out there, but if you like the dark, violent, disturbing, and gritty you will love it! This was fast-paced and a super quick read in the way that all of King's books seem to be, and that is just one of the many things I liked about it. Even though neither George nor Liam are particularity likable, I still managed to develop a bit of a soft spot for George. How I don't know, but I did!

As of right now, Kill, Sleep, Repeat is still my favorite, but The Book Doctor is a solid psychological thriller that will keep you on your toes, and at the same time keep you hooked until the very last page.

There really isn't a lot that can be said without giving anything away, but if you are a fan of the enigma that is Britney King, you should really enjoy The Book Doctor. I had many theories while reading and none of them ended up accurate so I have a feeling the end will blow a lot of readers away. Since this is a standalone you could also choose to read it if you haven't read this author yet. And if you haven't, what are you waiting for?!

Thank you to the author for providing me with an advance review copy of this book! All opinions and thoughts are my own.

If you have read a Britney King book before then you know that you are in for a twisty and dark ride. The Book Doctor was absolutely no different. I read this book in one, page turning sitting. It was disturbingly addictive and definitely not for the faint hearted reader.

The main 2 characters were not particularly likeable but that all adds to the fun. George Dawson is a best selling author who is in a writing rut. His editor sends him Liam, a young man that George instantly dislikes, to help him. He is not sure what it is but something is off with Liam.. but what is it?

That is all you need to know. To say anything more will spoil the story for you. You need to read it to find out more. The ending blew my mind... did not see it coming at all. This is a clever but violent psychological thriller and I loved it.

Thank you to Britney King for sending me this ARC to read.

I can always expect a dark twisted gruesome tale from Britney King.

There is no denying Britney's pure talent in grabbing her readers in from page one... and on the edge of finding what she has up her crazy sleeve. The Book Doctor is of course another page turner for Britney's fans.

I have read quite a few of her novels and am always so excited to see what dark and crazy characters she has in her newest novel. I do have to say this wasn't my favorite novel from King. I figured out the storyline and plot with the main character pretty early on. I am a huge thriller girl and have seen this avenue before with another character in a previous book I read.

But, I still thoroughly enjoyed this dark book that I binged in a few days! I highly recommend you to pick up one of King's books if you're into dark, twisted, and creepy to the core.

Thank you so much to the author for providing me an early arc in exchange for an honest review.

Psychological Thriller | Epic Twist

There is no doubt about it; Britney King writes EPIC thrillers with excellent twists. I have seen this time and again with every book she’s written. The twist in this one just might be my favorite of them all though as I wasn’t expecting it and it shocked the hell out of me! If you’ve ever read a book by her, you’ll know exactly what I mean. If you haven’t, be aware that her books are short, snappy, exciting, and dark. These books aren’t for the faint of heart and there are scenes that can turn your stomach. That doesn’t negate the fact that they are also well thought out, intriguing, and fun! Her books take on a satirical nature, and even though we don’t trust the narrator we can’t help but like them even if they are bad people.

If you are looking to get lost in a darker world for a little while with some characters who seem to edge on the sanity/insanity line, then this is the book for you! The buildup is slow, but it moves at a pace where it doesn’t become boring.

I went in blind like I usually do but also because it's Britney King and I don't care what the synopsis is, I'm going to read it. There's no denying her pure talent for drawing you right into a story with your curiosity at its peak on what crazy story she has for us next. The Book Doctor is no different but I also have so many questions!!

Phew - this book starts out with a BANG! Instantly I am, as usual with her work, instantly hooked. This is skin flapping, throat crunching FUN. Can't help myself y'all, I do love me a good killing and there is plenty of that within these pages. There were times though that I was confused. Whose POV were we in and what exactly is happening here? I was a little bit lost occasionally. Was there just one murder hornet or a bunch of them? Why didn't he go to the hospital and how is he still walking around with ALL THAT. THAT was his reaction to THAT?! I need more about the background with his wife and what about..... ok shhhh, you really need to read this so we can discuss!

Now, mind you, the (unexpected) ending makes this a bit clear (and wow, I really wasn't expecting that ending) but I felt perplexed most of the time which distracted me from how powerful that ending could have been. I'll be perfectly honest, this might not be my favorite of King's work, but it certainly is still a binge read and highly entertaining. A page turner with unlikable characters, the pressure of being a writer and caretaker which culminates to an explosion.

King is one of my favorite authors - I highly suggest you pick up ANY of her books. And no excuse me while I go brush up on my trivia … just in case. 😉

3.5 stars - this was fast and entertaining but I felt a bit confused by it.

Britney King is pretty vulgar, so fair warning to readers. Although this was quite tame compared to Kill Sleep Repeat.

Thank you to the author for my review copy.

“Tis strange — but true; for truth is always strange...” Lord Byron

Britney King knows how to write a compulsive, psychological thriller, so I knew THE BOOK DOCTOR was going to be a wild ride! If there’s anyone that knows how to write a story that messes with your mind, it’s Britney King.

Bestselling author George Dawson has lost his touch, so his editor hires a “book doctor” to finalize the manuscript. George is determined that his newest book be a success despite his troubled personal life. Well George isn’t too keen on his book doctor, Liam, but it’s Liam to the rescue regardless.

The book’s format includes Journal Entry chapters interspersed throughout which makes for a stellar reading experience. Also, a big bonus for me is a healthy amount of violence and cringe inducing scenes which I am all about. King brilliantly creates intrigue and confusion all the way to an ending that will surely knock your socks off.

THE BOOK DOCTOR is a twisty, binge-worthy book that you all definitely need to read. Seriously, if you haven’t picked up a Britney King book yet, there’s no better time than now.

Most of y’all know by now that Britney King is my go to author for quick and dirty page-turners. The minute I get my hands on a copy of her latest I drop everything, pour myself a glass of wine and settle in for a wild ride.

Once again she’s managed to provide something fresh and unique and completely binge worthy. Oh, don’t forget full of blood too. The story follows George, a bestselling suspense author who is desperate to make a comeback, but at what cost?

The transitions from present day to excerpts from “The Book Doctor” were a little confusing at times. I did see the ending coming but I don’t know if every reader necessarily will. I’m anxious to see what readers think. This would be a fun one to read by the pool.

Kill, Sleep, Repeat still holds its place as my favorite book but you know I’ll continue to read anything she writes.

The Book Doctor is the third book that I have read by Britney King. Previously I read Room 553 and Kill, Sleep, Repeat. Room 553 is one of my favorite psychological thrillers and I recommend it all the time. I dove right into The Book Doctor without really reading the synopsis and I was immediately invested!
Author George Dawson's time as a bestselling author has come to an end. He has one last book to write and his publisher hires a "book doctor" to help him complete his manuscript and have one last bestseller. George is skeptical about Liam, the book doctor, until he realizes that Liam is actually helping.
The Book Doctor reads at a swift pace and that is how I love my thrillers. As with any thriller, I am always trying to see if I can figure out the twist before it is revealed. Last night I definitely said "I was right" out loud. Figuring out the twist is one of my favorite things to do. For me, it does not take away from the book. Loose ends or contradictions will bother me.
Britney King continues to be one of my favorite thriller writers! If you haven't read any of her books yet, I highly recommend The Book Doctor.
Thank you to Britney King for sending me an advanced copy.

You might need a doctor after you finish "The Book Doctor"! Yes, it was that traumatizing!

This is my first Britney King book so I was unprepared for the twists, turns, and deeply disturbing finale.

"The Book Doctor" focuses on two protagonists: George Dawson, a cynical best-selling author who hasn't released a book in three years and is having problems getting back in the grove, and "Book Doctor" Liam, an apprentice sent to George by his publisher. George feels that there is something "off" with Liam.. ...but what is it?

The book was fast-paced and character development was solid. One of the things I liked most about this book was that I did not guess the ending.

This book featured explicit descriptive scenes of brutal violence against women and that is why it did not earn a 5-star review from me.

I listened to the book's audio version and the book's narrator was outstanding.

Never felt so let down. Britney King is a queen to me in the literary world and I have loved each of her novels. Except this one. The Book Doctor was very predictable and just bland in my opinion. There really werent any twists or turns, it was all very laid out you. Pretty cut and dry. Just overall so disappointing.

Oh. My. How does this incredibly lovely and talented woman write these amazingly dark and disturbing novels? I always get a little shiver of excitement when I pick up a King novel as I know I'm in for a creepy ride! This one is as good as it gets! Liam is the "book doctor" who is hired to help a cynical writer complete his newest book. But there are many secrets in both of their lives and each chapter reveals a new twist that we are not prepared to believe. So strap yourself in for this roller-coaster adventure that will leave you breathless in anticipation for her next adventure!

Britney King has done it again in her psychological thriller, The Book Doctor. The Prologue smacked me in the face, made me duck and cover, and had me rapidly turning the pages to find out what in the hell is going on.

George is a writer with a book deadline months past due and a wife with severe mental issues and the story takes off. It quickly becomes a twisted mess and I’m wondering what is going on with Liam. And his wife? My head is spinning.

George is living in hell.

A terrifying look into the life of a mentally disturbed woman and the man who cares for and keeps both of them safe. An impossible task, I believe.

Great job, Britney. You had me til the end and what a wild ride it was. I went down the path you led me and walked into crazy town. You had me questioning the characters actions, feeling something was a little bit off, and I never saw the ending coming.

I love books with serial killers and this led me down a murky path. The pacing kept me turning the pages, having to know what comes next. I can highly recommend every book of hers I have read.

This is surprisingly my first book by Britney King and I am not even sure how I came across this book but I am so thrilled I did. I love a good thrill ride and this checks all the boxes for me. It is different well crafted and is fast paced and enjoyable.

George is the primary caretaker for his mentally ill wife. That kind of responsibility does not make a good environment for finishing a book. This story starts off with George in trouble with his publisher. His drinking problem made me wonder how unreliable of a narrator he would be. Liam is introduced as 'the book doctor', a well-respected and charismatic guy with a reputation for getting results. Together they are tasked with finishing the book George has been procrastinating on and rebuilding George's brand and author status. I have to be fully honest I was not a fan of Liam as a character. Not because there was anything wrong with the character, I just found him self absorbed and a bit annoying. I have read many opinions of Britney King books before I picked this up and I have to say for the most part this was a crazy train wreck that I couldn’t keep my eyes off of. I have already recommended it to two people.

I have to say I am a person who needs bloody books between her romance novels and this novel has it all. The creative deaths in this book kept me turning the pages trying to figure out what would happen next. I love being able to just read books like this and being entertained to the point I forget to put the book down.

The beginning was rough. Do not read if you are sensitive. After reading the book my mind was blown by the ending. Was not expecting the self-destructive behavior. The rest of the book is intense and fast paced. Loved it. If you’re a fan of reading about murders and don’t mind the violence-pick up this read. I plan to go back and read more books by Britney King.

Thank you to the author for providing me with an advance copy of her newest novel in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Let me start by saying, that I think this is officially my new favorite cover of hers! The Book Doctor is available now for your digital reader and in paperback.

Britney’s books usually start out the same way. We get a brief glimpse at what will eventually be the end of the novel, and what better way to get a reader hooked than to leave us wondering how we get to that high tension scene?

Britney’s main characters are often females so it was a nice change of pace for this book to be centered around two male characters (and the wife of the author). Her books are also usually right around 250 pages and I’m always amazed at how much she manages to pack into so few pages! And truly, her books have it all. I mean, at the risk of sharing the tiniest spoiler/detail, this book has murder hornets! Murder. Hornets. She truly never ceases to amaze me.

One quote that really stuck out to me: “...it made sense why my work has been successful, even if it can at times be considered predictable. People like to feel smart. There’s nothing quite as satisfying as being right...” I agree that as much as I love a good WTF movement, there can also be real satisfaction in figuring out a twist before the reveal. I thought it was a bit ironic that Britney wrote this however, because I don’t think I’ve ever really seen any of her endings coming. And this was no exception.

While I think The Book Doctor didn’t have as much constant buildup as many of her previous novels, the ending made it all worth it for me. I’m giving this one 4.5 stars and as always I look forward to her next release.

I can always count on Britney King to thoroughly mess with my mind and leave me going 'Holy Crap! She went there!' Well, she did it again with The Book Doctor. The thing is I kind of knew where it was going, or at least I suspected. Then something would happen to make me doubt myself. I read a lot of psychological thrillers, and usually, I have things pretty well figured out well before the big twist, but this author always makes me doubt what I've figured out to the point that I completely talk myself out of it. Every time I start a Britney King book, I tell myself that I'm not going to guess, knowing full well that I will, and I did. I will say that this one moves so quickly I didn't really have time for a lot of guessing and doubting, and I loved every minute of it. True to form, it's wonderfully written, and the characters may not be exactly likable, but they surely are intriguing. Another must read from the queen of must reads.

It’s always a great pull you in and get ready for a ride type of beginning.
Then it’s meeting your characters and choosing who you like and who you don’t or who is good and who is bad. It’s a ride with twists and turns and trying to solve whatever question you have before the actual question is revealed.
Then you get to that moment... you know what that moment is, the one where you question everything you’ve read this far, you question your own questions, and the answer was there all along, and it’s like you have to go back through the story and find those points that are the pieces that could have been clear but weren’t until “that moment”.
Great story, great thrilling ride, wonderful twist. I’m excited for whatever is next.

The Book Doctor by Britney King. This book was a gift to me. Britney King does it again! From the Prologue to end, there are so many twists and turns in this book that tells the story of famous mystery writer George whose books are not selling so well anymore, so his publisher hires a "The Book Doctor" to help him. He's a very personable guy but watch out he's also dangerous. What I like best about King's book is her well developed characters. Check it out for an edge-of- your-seat read, I recommend it!

Thank you to Britney King for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Britney King does it again y’all! I dove into this fast paced thriller on Monday and found myself unable to put it down. As usual the author takes the reader on a dark and twisted ride, in The Book Doctor. However, if you are squeamish this book may not be for you. While the characters weren’t overly likable I still found myself intrigued with George and Liam. George is a writer trying to make a comeback while Liam is a young editor sent to help him. George, can’t shake the feeling though that something is off with this kid. Without giving anything away I will say the ending surprised me.

I’ve read quite a few books now by BK and I have to say this author has become a favorite of mine! As always I look forward to the next thriller she sends our way.

The Book Doctor by Britney King has put her on another level! This book was outstanding! I did not want to finish it because I enjoyed it so much. George Dawson is a famous author who has hit a slump with his writing. His publisher sends a “book doctor” , named Liam, to help him meet his deadline. Liam is a young man and George really doesn’t like him. Something is off about him. What is it? You’ll have to read this to find out. This book is not for squeamish readers. I am really impressed with the story and I loved the character of George, flawed as he was. Please don’t pass this book up!

Well for me I totally loved this book and really hope you do. George is in trouble he's an author that isn't writing, he has a sick wife Eve and life is hard (hope that doesn't sound familiar). His editor has sent Liam to help him finish his latest master piece (it won't be as good as this book is obviously).
So the question who is Liam and why him? Well who are Eve and George are also good questions. One of the things Britney King (the Amazing Author) is good at is building on each of her characters throughout her books and this one is no exception. There are plenty of twists a few red herrings and one absorbing psychological Thriller that you will not want to put down, how many times have you heard that well I couldn't and certainly didn't want to at any point. I found the only disappointing thing was finishing it but it's ok I can and will read it again.
The ending will blow you away but you have to have read the rest for it to make sense so if you like to spoil things it will only be your enjoyment or understanding that is cropped.
Yes for me this is a great book and worthy of five stars if not more (they don't let me, maybe that could be used in a different plot, "revenge of the 5* limit" ). But what you won't to know is if this is worth getting the answer from me is yes, will you get your money's worth definitely. Will you want more of the authors book I do, as hinted I loved this book and hope you do as well.

Britney King is my go to for evocative writing and suspenseful storylines. Her latest book, The Book Doctor, is a menacing read filled with unsettling vibes (not for the faint of heart) that supplied me with a book rush I so needed. Buckle up...King’s new book is a dark and creepy ride with twists and turns every step of the way. I was mesmerized by her unrestrained plot, graphic imagery and warped characters. Full disclosure...King’s book has vivid scenes of death and murder. She showcases deranged thoughts that will give even the squeamish-free reader the chills. Fans of the hit show Dexter, will be in heaven with this book. If you are looking for a distraction, King’s book will fulfill your wish. The only thing you will need to worry about when reading The Book Doctor, is how fast you can turn the page. One thing is for sure…..this mind gripping tale was the perfect binge worthy read. Pair this psychological thriller with a glass of something fabulous, and you’ll have one hell of a night!
Thank you to the lovely Britney King for sharing with me her new book to read in exchange for my honest opinion. What can I say...I am a huge fan.

Britney King has a way of making big things like murder sound so simple and casual and I love it!⁣

My first thoughts on finishing 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘉𝘰𝘰𝘬 𝘋𝘰𝘤𝘵𝘰𝘳 were:⁣
"wtf did I just read?!"😳 Which is typical for a Britney King book🤣.⁣

A struggling formally bestselling author needs help writing an overdue mystery, so his publisher sends over a "book doctor" ghostwriter to help. ⁣
Also, his wife is unwell and requires care around the clock lest her episodes get too violent. There's also murder hornets, extravagant parties and some pretty gory scenes.⁣

Just like the author's other books this one isn't as straightforward as it seems and it's full of twists that will make you question everything and everyone!⁣

If you are looking for a mind boggler of a thriller this is the book for you!⁣

⭐⭐⭐🌠/5 ⁣

Now excuse me while I go brush up on my physics and history trivia...⁣

I mean, Woah! This is Britney King at her best! Her last few books have skipped back in forth on the line of darkness but she marches down that line with The Book Doctor. I just love it when Britney King goes dark and gritty! This book was fast-paced and I felt the flurry of the entire story... I was rushed reading it, like I was on a deadline (besides reviewing by release day, that is). George is one of those characters that you'll find yourself empathizing with in the beginning until Mrs. King hits you with a plot twist! Let me suggest you don't read on a full belly or while eating! Mrs. King gets a little messier than usual! I, personally, LOVED this side of her! Give me more!!

I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that... my opinions.

The Book Doctor is a maddening mind-gripping story about a writer desperate to make a comeback who realizes that success may cost more than he can afford to pay when a stranger arrives at his door.

Just like all of Britany King’s adrenaline-induced novels, The Book Doctor had me anxious in suspense up until it’s surprise ending. A bit of horror mixed with pure psychological terror. Not for the timid. A cautionary tale of love lost with a high dose of ambition and obsession of festering proportions.

My favorite parts of the book were the flashbacks and The Book Doctor journal entries. I do wish there had been more of those to understand better the family dynamics of the writer’s family as well as getting deeper inside the malicious mind of The Book Doctor. Pacing was on point as always and I finished the book in one sitting.
