It's a Trust thing

Rate this book
Nell Newbery has trust issues. It’s hard to trust when you’re the daughter of a fallen financial scion who bilked people out of billions. Nell’s done everything in her power to keep away from men who see her as their ticket to fortune and fame. All she wants to do is run her ultra-successful business, HELPFUL HUNKS, in peace.

But it wouldn’t hurt to find a guy who doesn’t know a thing about her father’s felonious past; one she can give her heart to and trust it won’t come back to her battered, bruised, and broken.

Is Charlie Churchill that guy? On the surface he seems perfect, all polished manners and quiet mirth. Nell’s convinced he knows nothing about her, other than she likes superhero movies and views junk food as a food group.

Can she trust him to be what he appears to be? Or is he just pretending?

For Nell, trust is everything in life…and in love.

It’s a matter of trust.

Ok, I’m down with the alliteration. Nell Newbury is a successful dot com girl. Buts she’s a little bit geeky and a lot of past baggage (that what a fraudulent pops will do).

Charlie Churchill seems chill.

I liked that it was nicely balanced with steam, humor and business savvy.
Recommend.

If you enjoyed Dirty Damsels then this will appeal to you as well. I love a story where you connect straight away with the characters, in this case Nell & Charlie. This is a real feel good story which I thoroughly enjoyed.
Nell is a very relatable person suffering from the sins of her father, who is in gaol for his actions. Her daily life is orderly to cope with her past, something which she is also hiding from in many ways.
However when she literally bumps into Charlie, her life is turned upside down, but he has many walls to break through to get to her. Just when things were looking bright for them unfortunately an issue gets in the way causing Nell to retreat. I was really sad when this happened but I sort of guessed who Nic was & thought Oh No ! Poor Charlie I really felt for him.
This is just a touch of what's involved as poor Nell has to deal with both her parents issues too. Although previous characters are mentioned it isnt necessary to read the first book unless you'd like to follow their adventures.

LOVED, LOVED LOVED this story

Peggy Jaeger has certainly become one of my go to favorite authors. I started reading her book 📚📖 as an advanced reader for Mix and Match: Heaven's Matchmaker kindle edition. I loved this romantic story and decided I needed more which lead me to the New York Socialites Series and Woke and balance and now It's A Trust Thing. This is the story of a child of a New York scion ( Denison Newberry) Penelope aka Penny aka Nell. She at a young age, teenager, was forced to grow up as her father was accused of bilking people out of their money. Her father went to jail and her mother had a meltdown in the courtroom and had not spoken since which was at least a decade. Nell meets British Professor Charlie Churchill as she goes to substitute for a professor at the college and find herself as usual, clumsy, falling on nothing in particular. So he helps her after her face plant and that's where the introduction of Charlie and Nell begins. This book 📚📖 was sometimes sad and quite a bit I found myself 😂 laughing at how this relationship grew. I thoroughly enjoyed reading, It's A Trust Thing. I would highly recommend this book 📚📖. I would only wish one thing that there was an epilogue and Charlie's brother could have a book or even Dan or Ella.

Great book.

What an engaging story. Peggy Jaeger’s It’s a Trust thing about Nell, the daughter of a convicted financial ponzi schemer and Charlie, an Econ Professor with a British background. Told from Nell’s point of view, we are privileged to witness Nell’s normally cautious behavior go out the window where Charlie is concerned as she deals with pent up feelings about he father, her mother’s illness and her almost obsessive need for privacy where the media is concerned. And as the title states, it IS a trust thing. Wonderful writing, engaging characters, the right amount of humor mixed with angst makes this a terrific read.

Peggy Jaeger is quickly becoming a must-read author for me. Her books will make you laugh and cry.

In this book Nell is dealing with the aftermath of her father's Ponzi scheme which lost millions for his investors. Even after 15 years reporters are still harassing her. She's been burned so many times that now she only trusts her two closest friends. Relationships never make it past the third date. She is focused on her business and taking care of her mother which leaves little time for a social life.

When she asked to fill in for a business class, she meets Charlie. He's a professor. She begins to trust him which is unusual for her. She didn't even google him after their first date. You wonder if their relationship will last.

This is a sweet book. I haven't read book one in the series, but I will be starting it soon!

Ms. Jaeger excels in the use of the first-person POV, a constant in many of her novels. In “It’s a Trust Thing,” she introduces us to Nell Newbery, an adorable but klutzy protagonist who has surmounted a full slate of real-life problems that would intimidate most of us. Successful in her work life, Nell struggles to find the right man. Enter Charlie Churchill, Mr. Perfect, with a British accent. There is an instant attraction but several obstacles and unexpected trials along the way. I strongly advise setting aside uninterrupted reading time. You won’t be able to put this book down.

This book is the embodiment of what I look for in a romance book. It has all the feel-good components I hope to experience when reading a love story. I’m an emotional person and enjoy connecting with my characters on a personal level. The writing techniques in It’s a Trust Thing really brought the story to life. This isn’t my first Peggy Jaeger novel and it will definitely not be my last.

I didn’t get a chance to read the first book in the DotComGirls series before I discovered It’s a Trust Thing, so I’m secure in saying that It’s a Trust Thing can be read as a standalone. I have yet to be disappointed in a Peggy Jaeger novel and I’m pleased to share that this story, like the others, more than satisfied me.

This particular book was a great deal of fun to read. My attention was captured from the beginning and carried onto the end. I lost count how many times I laughed. I really want to share how surprised I was with the unexpected plot twist near the end of the book.

I often talk about book boyfriends but rarely talk about having favorite heroines. Nell Newbery makes my list of favorite heroines. She was a kindred klutz like me. She was also a heartwarming character as I enjoyed reading about her overcoming her trust issues. Nell’s character was a role model for following your dreams despite adversity.

Charlie Churchill doesn’t win the book boyfriend award but he gets an honorary mention. I really loved him, and even though I didn’t get much of his inner thoughts and feelings, I found it wasn’t necessary because actions speak louder than words. Charlie clearly demonstrated his love and passion for Nell.

Together, Charlie and Nell made a compelling romance. They were an inspiring couple as they opened their hearts up to each other.

I don’t have any qualms about recommending this book.

Nell and Charlie meet cute when adorable klutz Nell literally falls at his feet in a stairwell at Columbia University before she gives a guest lecture. Charlie is a British econ prof and Nell is a successful entrepreneur.

Nell is a success but she's a complicated woman who has had to fight to become who she truly is while the world only knows her as the daughter of a Bernie Madoff like father who bilked people of their savings and who's been in prison since Nell was 16. So basically Nell took care of her mom who completely fell apart after the verdict and herself, navigating college and then the beginning of her business all alone. She has some great friends in Ella, Buddy (Dot Com Girls Book 1) and Dan and yet she cannot find that special someone because she just can't trust. If your father did what hers did would you be able to take anyone at face value ever again?
Charlie Churchill is a Colin Firth like sexy prof and falls hard for Nell. The ensuing well written complications and sexy times are worth the read. Extra special for me is the NYC setting. Recommended.

I think this is the first book I've read by this author and I am most certainly going to be adding her to my "authors I want to read" list.

IT'S A TRUST THING is book 2 of the "DotComGirls" series but I couldn't even tell. It 100% reads as a standalone.

It is light and easy and breezy. It does have a weight and depth to it that lends a serious tone to part of the story line. A story line that is pulled from the headlines with a grace that I wouldn't have imagined.

Here are a few of my favorite quotes:

"it's been said by friends that I can trip standing still"

"I wasn't aware there was a God of the vertically challenged" I nodded "Saint Shortstack"

"...as women we have to lift one another up becasue if we don't, men will step over us without a backward glance."

This was a one sitting book and I flew through it, never skimming - well except those schmexy parts ;) The characters are well developed and three dimensional.

I absolutely recommend this book and look forward to reading more from this author and especially this series.

Excellent: Story. Vocabulary. And, An Emotive Romance

An excellently written original story. Ms. Jaeger`s command of the English language is commendable. It is like a breath of fresh air to be able to expand my vocabulary by reading a novel. To boot, the main female character is quite quirky; understandably so, given her familial background. She is quite funny. Here is one example of the inner machinations of her mind:

``... the man made all the X chromosomes in my body stand at attention and scream ``here we are.``. `` Oh yes, and while I am at it, I should let you know that this was a very emotive romantic tale. You should read it!

I voluntarily received an advance review copy of this novel via Booksprout and I am leaving an honest and unbiased review. I have no affiliation to this author.

It was great how you were always waiting for the other shoe to drop with Nell and Charlie as you were so drawn to Nell and wanting to protect her with all she had been through, but you also hoped he would be the right guy to trust. There is a lot of depth to this book as well as a reminder that if you want something you can do it if you really work for it like what Nell did. There are plenty of emotions to go through within this book and characters to get know and fall in love with so I recommend you get settled before you start the book as you won't be putting it down until the last page.

The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.

A massive adventure you won't be able to put down!

When Nell Newbery literally stumbles into a "staircase saviour" with a British accent, she is running late for a lecture but intrigued too.  That she agrees when later he invites her to grab a bite, comes as a total shock.  But there's just something about this drop-dead gorgeous economics professor that has all her defences on stand down.

This is my first Peggy Jaeger read and I thoroughly enjoyed it.  This writer is a master at a comfortable friendly style that conveys you along as if on a massive adventure.   And the exploits of her engaging characters are an adventure indeed!   Fun, fast moving, with more than a touch of the unexpected; Nell's narrative kept me reeled in all the way to the end.  An end that came all too soon!  This is a book you'll want to give your undivided attention to!

[Many thanks to the author for the opportunity to read this book, in conjunction with the Winter Games Reader Challenge.   The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.]

It’s a Trust Thing
by Peggy Jaeger

It’s a Trust Thing is fast pace, sweet story with several obstacles with some unexpected trials along the way. It is the second book of the series, (Dirty Damsels, the first book); a great book and series. The characters are real and extravagant, their motives clear and rational. A sassy heroine; big city wise, and business savvy, is focused on her business; but struggles with many personal issues. Our hero, Professor Hot body, is so hot (worthy of the reader becoming a bit warm); is just the guy she needs to help her start trusting again. The readers cannot help but to feel some of the steam between the characters.

Ms. Peggy Jaeger’s writing talents; paints a picture in her storyline that makes it impossible for the reader to put down the book, until seeing the whole thing. Drawing the reader in from the start and keeps them on the edge of the seat through; the laughter and the tears. Ms. Peggy Jaeger is one of my new authors, and I like the depth of emotion she packs in her books; surpassing other authors, with the use of the first-person POV. Ms. Peggy Jaeger can quickly become, a must-read author for many readers of this genre; she does not disappoint.

Not having read book one in the series, did not matter (I will be soon!), it was easy to pick up on the storyline. I really enjoyed the book with the ups and down, like most romance books; but this book has some dark family secrets. I could not put this book down, once I started reading; scrolling through the pages so fast. I recommend everyone to read, It’s a Trust Thing and readers set some uninterrupted reading time aside; readers will not be able to put this book down. I am looking forward to the next story from Ms. Jaeger. 5-stars, well done!

This book has Nell a strong woman leading the way owning her own business, and being independent. She had a lot of baggage and because of that has huge trust issues. Charlie is a professor with a wicked accent. When these two meet the tension is off the wall.
This was a fun book to read it had humor and some emotional areas. It was a perfect read to escape.

You can feel the emotion of the characters as you read this book. The title of the book tell it all in the fact that you have to trust yourself and others to make a relationship work. Love the realness of the Nell in that she worked hard for her success and had to deal with being another victim of her father's crimes but she is still a klutz that can laugh at herself. Enter professor Charlie Churchill with his sexy British accent who wants to show her that there is room in her life for love if she can trust. Can't wait to check out the other books in this series and more from Peggy Jaeger.

A true love story

I really enjoyed this book. It had it’s ups and down like romance book do, but this book also had some dark family secrets. I wish there would have been an I love you to a certain dad before anything happened but that didn’t happen. I know he did wrong but I wished that part would have turned out different. Other than that very well written!!

It's a Trust Thing - great title for this book because the main character, Nell, has lots of issues here because of her backstory. This is the second of the DotComGirls series and equally as good as the first. If you like sassy heroines who are business savvy and city-wise, and a story with a hot professor and some steam between them, you'll love this book. The story is Nell's and we see her as she struggles with many personal issues. Luckily Professor Hotbody is happy to ease her stress and be the guy she needs to help her start trusting again.
