Welcome to Morningwood #6

Red, White & Blew

Rate this book
Professor. Single dad. His father’s former best friend…

There is no end to how off-limits Thatcher should be to Dylan. But Dylan is away from home for the first time. An artist at heart, he’s struggling at the normie law school where he’s desperately trying to stand in his father’s footsteps. He’s too gentle, too meek. The members of his family have become lawyers and protected Morningwood—the secretive shifter only community—for generations. Though Dylan is lonely, he can’t tell his dad about the new friend he’s found in Thatcher. His dad would only order Dylan to stay away, and Dylan can’t give Thatcher up. Not just yet.

Thatcher has his hands full as a newly single father. The single part isn’t new, but the father part is. Elijah was ten when services dropped him on Thatcher’s door and in the months since he’s scrambled to change his life from that of a bachelor to a responsible father. But he struggles to connect with his young son. The smartest thing he could do would be to put a stop to the feelings he has for Dylan. While Elijah loves spending time with him and when the three of them are together, it feels like they are a family, Dylan is a student. If the university doesn’t discover their relationship Dylan’s overbearing dad will. He never got over the way Thatcher left Morningwood over a decade ago and if he ever found out Thatcher was interested in his son, he’d go ballistic.

As their bond deepens and the end of term looms ahead, Dylan’s running out of time. The annual Morningwood 4th of July camp-out is on the horizon, yet another tradition Dylan has with his father and he realizes he will have to make a choice between his dad and the town he loves, or his mate and the family that accepts him just the way he is.

Red, White & Blew is the sixth book in the Welcome to Morningwood series, it features an age gap romance with student/teacher themes (that's a lucky desk). But, it's a Morningwood story, so there is no question about the HEA, or the steamy, funny bits in between!

Enjoyable but definitely my least favorite book in the series. I hated how Thatcher wasn’t honest with Dylan. 🙄 If he told the truth from the beginning, no dramalama would have happened. 🤷‍♀️ Anyhow, I’m looking forward to the next book in the series. I’m definitely not done with the citizens of Morningwood. 😁

I am rating this book 4.5 stars rounded up to 5 stars.
I chose to knock off a half star because of the way the author had both Grant and Thatcher acting like immature kids when it came to telling Dylan that truth about why they were not friends anymore.
It just rang false to me, and also an artificial way of building up tension and anger so that author could have the "fireworks" of the fight as this big showdown. Than said IMO everything else about this book was 5-star AWESOME!!! I loved loved loved Dylan! He was just perfection! Elijah was pretty darn awesome as well. especially for a 10 year old kid. This was a slightly imperfect addition to the Morningwood family, but nevertheless still a mostly fun, sexy and definitely enjoyable ride!

I love this series, but this probably wasn't my favorite in the series. Things just didn't really work for me - a lot of things weren't explained, or if people had just talked early on, a lot of the unnecessary drama could have been avoided. And I don't know if I ever got crazy good chemistry between Dylan and Thatcher - and this author can write heat!

Still, I love this series and am looking forward to the new short story release that's coming up soon!

OH do I love Dylan!! This was such a good book. Sweet, shy Dylan who was miserable in law school finally found his backbone and his voice and it was a beautiful thing. I loved this story.
Dylan was more or less a doormat, he felt like. His roommate was a dick who took advantage of him. His father wouldn’t back off and let him breathe. And he was pressured into going into law, which he didn’t want to do. While studying late one night at the library, he runs across a gorgeous older man who immediately sniffed him as he entered his presence. Dylan knew immediately it was another shifter but was so shocked because he was 4 hours away from Morningwood and wasn’t expecting another shifter. As they begin to talk in the library and get to know each other, they realized they were locked in, which sent Dylan in a panic being claustrophobic. Thatcher calmed him down and they began to speak some more. And unfortunately, Thatcher learned who Dylan really was. The son of his ex-best friend. And this was not going to go well. He tried to stay away from Dylan but the pull was too strong and pretty soon their scents were mingling. When Grant, Dylan’s father, came for a surprise visit and caught them, it was not a pretty picture. But to keep things calm, Thatcher walked away for the moment. And Grant was not happy at Dylan defending him. But when it came time for them to go to Morningwood for the 4th of July, it all came to a head. The truth starts flying out in a shouting match in front of the town and ended with Grant with a broken nose by Thatcher. Now Dylan has to figure out how to keep his mate and his father and keep the peace. But it’s not going to be easy.
Dylan grew up so much in this book. I was so proud of him. He went from the shy, naive young man, to one with a steel set of balls and mind and a voice to back them up. He learned to start speaking for himself when all this stuff came to a head. He was miserable and tired of trying to live up to expectations that he would never live up to. He also wasn’t giving up his mate. So he finally put his foot down. And I loved it. Just because he’s an omega doesn’t mean he gets to have his life dictated or treated like crap and he stood up for himself. Even did a little sneaky revenge which was funny as hell.
I love this series. It has been so so good. And I hope there will be more coming. I love this little town.

“Red, White & Blew” is the sixth book in the Welcome to Morningwood series and I have enjoyed reading each one of them, this one didn’t disappoint. If you are new to the series, they can be read out of order, you won’t be lost, they feature new couples that involve the town of Morningwood. I loved watching Dylan grow and get out from under his father, who was so controlling. I loved Dylan, Thatcher and Elijah together, this was an instalove story but it worked for me and the story and how they had to fight for what they wanted. I would have loved to have had an epilogue and to have gotten to seen what Elijah became, but maybe there will be more to come. If you love a sweet, steamy story with shifters, an age gap, a cute ten year old, and a student teacher relationship with some angst, then this book is for you. I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to more in the series.

I give this book 3.5 stars.

I received an ARC of this book from the author in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

Like all the Morningwood novels Kiki puts her special touch on the shifter world.

Dylan and Thatcher are our last couple. Shy, naive nervous, dominant, sexy and possessive. Opposites that attract and we follow their ups and downs to their HEA.

I really enjoyed this one. I hope we can get one more out of her and our residents of Morningwood.

****I received an ARC copy of Red, White & Blew for my honest opinion****

This is a beautiful story.. Infact the entire morning wood series so far has been absolutely brilliant. And I’ll tell you kiki burelli according to me is a Goddess when it comes to writing shifter and mpreg.. I’ve loved all her series I’ve read thus far.. she is beyond brilliant and a real treasure. I stumbled upon this author quite by accident on amazon kindle and I never looked back, she has come to be one of my favourites authors in the genre..
I also love how inclusive she is in her books.. I love how she includes people of different races.. people of different sizes .. how over weight people are beautiful and find their happy ever after ( this is very close to my heart cos it’s very real to me) how she lets people with age difference have a chance.. it makes you believe that any one and everyone can find love. And it’s so hopeful. it’s just all really really really beautiful, I love her books so much.. I loved Thatcher, Dylan and I absolutely adored Elijah.. I love how their relationship grew.. I give this book all the stars i could possibly give it.. infact I give all of morning wood all the stars I could possibly give it. I’m a huge fan.

I quite liked this installment of the Morningwood Omegaverse. Dylan is a young shy Omega hating his college life, studying for a profession he wants no part of out of family obligation. Thatcher is an Alpha professor at said college who falls instalove gaga over Dylan and vice versa. Of course it couldn't be so simple as the two running away together and mischief ensues. A nice bit of fluff, and I like how Dylan relates to Thatcher's kid.

Dylan and Thatcher are drawn together right away but apparently there are lots of secrets and history that makes things pretty and cause a whole lot of upset with Dylan and his father. The story has a few intense moments that really draw you into the story and you are on the edge of your seat to see how things can possibly work out.

Never thought I'd be disappointed by another age-gap. This series is just one after another of the same story with different names: an age-gap, a virgin, a secret relationship.

I knew I should stop bingeing books in a series; I just wasn't ready to finish the other series I'm on so I was trying to stall but this is just getting old.

Dylan has had it hard at law school but one night and one chance meeting changes his life and turns it upside down. Thatcher needs some quiet time and the library is a good place as any. What he finds there will bring both peace and chaos to his life. Yet these two men cannot seem to walk away from each other no matter what the risks are.

Thatcher and Dylan’s story is a beautiful read. It is full of emotions and well-rounded characters. Their story pulls on your heartstrings and has you rooting for love. I really enjoyed both men, Thatcher is a good man and has always done what he thought was the right thing. Dylan is stronger than he realizes and with the help of Thatcher he begins to blossom, but can their love survive when secrets are brought into the open and the past and all its hurts come to the present? I loves watching their relationship unfold as the two spend more time together. Their bond grows as does their love. I also enjoyed seeing Dylan interact with Elijah. It was sweet to see the young man open up after meeting Dylan. The author weaves a wonderful story and has easily added so many emotions into this story. I was taken on a roller coaster ride of emotions and I did not want to get off. Love proves to be stronger than anything you can throw at it and it was nice to see that this love was worth fighting for.

3,5*

PLEASE READ MY RATING SYSTEM!!!

To my ratings:

5* - very very good and rare (it would be a Blow-
Away-book like
‘Jesse's Smile' or ‚Joey’ from Angelique Jurd,
‘Save the at he kids' series from EM Leya,
‘Love’s Tethered Heart’ from C.L. Etta or
'Liberty' from Seth King),
it's like an A+

4* - very good and will be often reread and is a
WOW-book with interesting plot and surprises
(like most of Andrew Greys books)
it's like an A

3,5* - a really good book, which will be reread a few
times a year (most romances where you can
enjoy for relaxing and during waiting times in
hospitals). I can recommend them definitively!
It's like an B+

3* - it could be more then a one-time-reader,
maybe 2-3 times a year. It’s like a B

2* - it was ok to read, but it's more a one-time-
reader (i wouldn't recommend it heartily, but
it was ok). It's like a C-, D

1* - sorry, but that isn't really a book for me (too
many mistakes, not nice plot, illogical, so an
absolut NO-GO). It's like failure in the whole
line, dismissed, repeat the class

I received an ARC edition of this book from the author.

3.5 stars

I really liked Thatcher and Dylan together. For all that they have a large age-gap, Thatcher does treat Dylan as an equal. I liked that Dylan and Elijah developed a friendship (I thought they both really needed that connection in their life). I think that his mating with Thatcher helped Dylan gain more security in what he wants, and though there is a major misunderstanding I think Dylan handled it with maturity once the shock was over.

I did think that Elijah came across as older than the 10 year old he was supposed to be, most of the time he came across as more of a teenager than a child. I thought Thatcher's big secret was a bit of a let-down once it was revealed. It was something that I really thought he should have just discussed with Dylan before it became such a big deal (and promise or not, it was something that shouldn't have been kept secret at that point). I also thought that Dylan's father's reactions were over the top, especially once we got the whole story.

I think this story would read okay without reading the previous books, though there are references to characters from those stories (and really if you like this type of world, you'll want to read the others as well).

Another nice story in this series. First off, I couldn’t believe how a college would let a student’s father be such a helicopter parent at that age, it may have just been to point out what he was like but was not at all realistic.

I hated that Dylan had to hide so much from his father but was glad at how much Thatcher helped him open up and learn more about himself. I still have some trouble with the whole not knotting until you are with your mate, so you don’t know they are and not knowing if you’re an omega or alpha and while it just bugs me I continue to enjoy these stories.

I think these two were perfect for each other and Dylan was just what Thatcher needed to help connect with Elijah. I was glad to see that Dylan’s dad is finally getting help for his depression and learning that his was isn’t always right.

I received a copy of this book and am giving an honest review.

This is a great addition to the MorningWood series. Dylan is a shy, sweet young man. He's in college at the behest of his father, to continue their proud legacy of lawyers. His father is very demanding and controlling. Dylan hates confrontation and this leads to him not being able to assert himself, therefore leading to stress and unhappiness in his life. People tend to walk all over him. He meets Thatcher, and is instantly smitten with him. He and Dylan's father used to be the best of friends, before unintentional actions resulted in irrevocable circumstances. They had a horrible falling out and haven't spoken to each other in years. When Thatcher and Dylan begin dating, they realize they're mates. Things come to a head at a back home summer event where they're caught by Dylan's father. Secrets come to light and Dylan finds the courage to stand up to his father about school, where his passion truly lies and his relationship with Thatcher.

So I haven't read another book from this series and I thought it will be best if you read the other books first. So you will more understand about the problem in this one.

Red, White, and Blew has a more complicated problem than Kiki's other book (Like the Den Series and etc). Both Dylan and Thatcher have their own problem which is in the end become each other problem too. They need to deal with Elijah and Dylan's father in order to have a real relationship (more like open relationship). I thought they're the most mature character from Kiki. They think every move and decision they made carefully. I like it really, it made them feel a bit more real than the other character.

But, for reader who just one a quick romance and sexy time story, this one isn't for you. Eventhough this story have a short chapter, but every chapter feel so full and heavy also can make your emosion up and down. It's like Kiki made the reader go through obstacle before gave them what they want lol 😂

This is an enjoyable MM shifter romance & a splendid addition to the “Morningwood Omegaverse Series” The characters are well developed and entwine well with each other with regards to the situation they find themselves in and react with doubts & emotional feelings, the secondary characters offer good support. The story-line is entertaining, well thought out and written.
There is: a 22yr old sweet young man (Dylan) in a law collage meets a older professor (Thatcher Adams) in the library & get involved with each other naturally Dylan’s controlling fathers (Grant Smith) is not to happy with this situation, Thatcher’s rather quirky son (Elijah), twists & turns, intrigue, drama, secrets, a problematic roommate, confrontations, manipulations, confusion, emotional turmoil, seduction, discovery, verbal conflict, some violence, determination, contentment, love, some steam & a well-deserved happy conclusion.

Funny, but yet emotional

Wow, just wow. This book will have your emotions all over the place and you won't be able to put the book down. As with all of Kiki's books she will grab you right at the beginng and won't let you go. Dylan is in law school and Thatcher is a professor. When they first meet they don't realize that they know each other. Once they figure it out it changes things. Can Thatcher get past his past or will it get in the way of his happiness? Can Dylan get out from under his controlling father or will his father get in the way? You will have to read the book to find out and I highly recommend that you do. You won't be disappointed.

I really liked how the author handled the age-gap romance in this one. Addressing some of the possible psychological issues was a huge plus to me. This is the first one of these stories that I've seen where counseling was even brought up as a possibility. It's a minor feature in this story, but one that really made me feel that this fantasy had a least a foot in our reality. I've thoroughly enjoyed this series and hope that there will be more. Even though this is a M/M series, I really would like to know what happens with Sophie... She seems really important to almost all of these folks and deserves at least a short story.

Red, White & Blew is the sixth book in Kiki Burrelli's series, Welcome to Morningwood. This book has age gap, shifters, single dad and father's ex-best friend elements... oh yeah and teacher. The story is fun, funny, steamy and a perfect addition to the series. I loved Thatcher and Dylan, they were sweet together but also brought on the heat. Supporting characters were interesting and entertaining. Loved it!

I received an advanced reader's copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation.

Really sweet May/December romance set in the wonderful Morningwood Omegaverse. I loved the humor and the genuinely heartwarming connection between Thatcher and Dylan. There's some angst and conflict, though more because of the history between Thatcher and Dylan's dad, than because of any problems between the MC's themselves.
This was a very enjoyable read about finding your true mate in the unlikeliest of place and finding family as well. Absolutely lovely.

I swear they just keep getting better. I love the blend of shifters this series has. It’s funny, sweet, and romantic while still having danger and suspense as well as a bit of mystery as well. Dillion and Thatcher are perfect together. The whole age gap teacher student thing was a definite plus for me. Though each of the books in this series can be read by themselves, they are much better when read in order. Once you step into Morningwood you’ll want to stay.

Delightful

This book felt like it was a bit slower to get going than normal. Dylan and Thatcher definitely took more time to get to know one another before they consummated their mating, which I thought really worked out well.

I was honestly surprised at who actually sired Elijah since I was sure that all sounds pointed to someone else. But it was a delight to see everyone get a HEA in the end.

Great!

I’ve always loved Kiki’s books but I was really enthralled with this one. I couldn’t put it down. I liked getting to see how Dylan came into his own and finally stood up for himself. I was glad to see his dad wasn’t a total Neanderthal and Thatcher was just a great all around Alpha. Loved the adventure and the laughs. I look forward to more!

A great story that is a wonderful addition to a fascinating series. I really like Dylan and Thatcher together and was so glad that they were mates. Not only was it great watching their relationship develop but I really liked how Dylan was finally able to stand up for himself with his father. Hope there is more to come from this series. Always good to visit Morningwood

It’s always a joy to visit Morningwood, and honestly I don’t think I’ll ever get sick of this series. I loved Thatcher and Dylan and Elijah, and even though the relationship seemed to move fast at times, I liked the story. And as always, a happy ending.

Got super confused there for a minute.

For a good while there I was convinced that Elijah was Dylan’s like long lost brother or some crap. An I had to reread to make sure I didn’t skip over something. Nope. But other than the confusion it was a fantastic book!
