Menacing
I read this after reading Book 4 in the series ‘The Ex’ recently and have to say although was good to see how the series started made no difference, reading out of order, to my enjoyment of it
Jenna starts the series in turmoil, her Sister Fliss is missing and there is nothing she can do to help ( re protocol ) not that that stops her doing as much as she can to try and resolve the case from the sidelines
And what a case, grim, the person who has Fliss is grim, vile and so well portrayed I was wary of him even via a book, horrible piece of work, really well described
The story was tense and atmospheric and only right at the very end did I guess who it was, about a page before the revelation happened
Loved the setting of Ironbridge as mentioned in last review had family lived there for years so know the setting well
A really good read and now have read book 1 and book 4 can reccomend the series

DS Jenna Morgan is first at the scene when reports come in about people hearing deadly screams coming from Iron ridge Gorge. During the search, they find a woman's body and Jenna's sister, Fliss's dog who is badly injured. But there is no sign of Fliss. Who is the woman they found? Where is Fliss?
This is a good introduction to a new police procedural series and it starts off with a bang. I liked Jenna for several reasons. The characters are true to life. Jenna races against time to find and save her sister who had witnessed something she shouldn't have seen. The story is well written and the plot believable. I got into this story very quickly. A promising start to a new series.

I would rate this read 3.5 rating,DS Jenna Morgan on a case involving her sister fliss.she taken her dog for a walk when someone took her and harmed her dog.Her sister trys to find out what happened to her.I did enjoy this book but not completely into the characters yet maybe in book two.

I listened to the audiobook version of The Keeper.
Wow, that was edge of the seat stuff! The story started strong and remained that way, with a great plot that really built the tension. The grand finale was no letdown and the story delivered right to the end.
Katy Sobey delivered a really solid well narrated and clear performance. I look forward to listening to more books in this series.

I urge any psychological fans to read this - you won't be disappointed! Jenna and Felicity 'Fliss' Morgan are sisters and share a very close bond, even more so since the sudden death of their Mum, three months ago. Fliss, having recently separated from her abusive boyfriend moves into her sister's house, along with her furbaby Domino, a handsome Dalmation. Fliss is a Schoolteacher and teaches at the Coalbrookdale and Ironbridge School in Ironbridge, Shropshire... Fliss was a bit annoyed over a text that her sister had sent to her, telling her to walk her dog, Domino. Fliss drove out to their usual walking spot but decided to walk along a different route as she didn't feel like mingling with the other twilight walkers. If only she had... This is where you CANNOT put the book down. I won't write too much as I don't want to give any of the plot away, but Fliss's sister, Jenna, aka DS Jenna Morgan, and DC Mason Ellis become heavily involved in a case very close to home. Jenna is ordered to take a backseat which is hard for her to deal with but the case cannot be compromised. The body of a woman is found... What has happened to her? And is her demise anything to do with the horrific events that unfolded on the evening of Fliss's walk? I felt upset, worried and was scared, too. It's a brilliant plot and it made my heart rate increase rapidly! - I love books like this 😃 I had no idea how it would all pan out; I was really on edge towards the end and in a good way. I loved the characters (well most of them - I was suspicious of a couple) and the rapport they had. I thought the descriptive writing was perfect, very well balanced and there were no inaccuracies. It really was a gripping read and I am looking forward to reading more from this author. It's a definite recommendation from me! Thank you

Well this was an unexpected gem to stumble across. I've never read any Diane Saxon's books before.
Felicity is out on a walk with her beautiful Dalmatian Domino when she stumbles across a dead body. A stranger begins stalking her and her around the Ironbridge. Suddenly the man attacks her for no reason, actually, he takes a stick to her devoted dog and then attacks Fliss. She escapes him and rolls down the embankment. He chases her and kidnaps her.
Jenna is a DS, walkers alerted the police to the screams they heard around the bridge. She discovers the screams belonged to her sister. The investigation kicks off with a K9 handler and his dog discovering Domino's body.
Jenna is distraught but eager to find her sister when it becomes obvious that she has been kidnapped. Great read, highly recommended.

Wow loved it
This is the first book I have read by this author and oh boy what a fast pace gripping read. Set in Coalbrookdale Fliss Morgan a teacher at Ironbridge school moves in with her sister Jenna after breaking up with her ex Ed Pendleton over Domino her adorable pet Dalmatian. Dog walking at Dale end park Fliss witness some harrowing shocks and disappears. Detective sergeant Jenna Morgan along with Detective Constable Mason Ellis get a report of a woman's screams in the park and on investigation find it's her sister Fliss missing and Domino been left for dead. a body is found but its not Fliss so where is she this is a murder and a kidnapping and harrowing to read that will shake you to the core as you read. All accounts will blow you away. I found this author's second book in the series so had to read the keeper and so glad I did and now looking forward to following on with Copycat. Absolutely brilliant chilling read worth the star's

Wow! This was an audio version.
Love this author's books, I have read a couple and I again was hooked after the first chapter.
I really like the leading duo of Jenna and Fliss very much.
The story was believable and well put together with a couple of lines that made me smile.
I was heavily invested in it and listened to it when I could over the weekend.
I do have the book too, so I may read it.
I have dropped half a star as the narrator wasn't suitable for the genre in my opinion, but the story kept me interested enough to continue.

This author has been on my wish list for a while and this is the first time I have read/listened to one of her books. I am happy to say I enjoyed this book and I am eager to start the next Jenna Morgan book.
This crime thriller will keep you guessing as the author draws you into this crime mystery tale and keeps you intrigued from start to finish. This book does not have a single dull moment and you will have your heart stolen by Domino, the Dalmatian.
I enjoyed how the author keeps you gripped with this story. There really isn’t a single dull moment in this book. You are quickly hooked and even when you are convinced that you know who took Fliss, you are not sure until the very end. The author manages to keep drop hints along the way while keeping you curious. I am excited to start the next book in the Jenna Morgan series, I have it ready and waiting.
Jenna has looked after her little sister for as long as she can remember. Sometimes she is a little hard on Fliss, but Fliss seems to have a talent for getting herself in trouble. When Fliss goes missing and her dog – Domino – is found seriously injured, Jenna is determined to find her alive. Even if she is not allowed to investigate, she will not leave it alone. Where is Fliss? Will Jenna be able to find her in time? And who is the woman found dead where Fliss was last seen?
This was an enjoyable crime mystery that kept me intrigued right to the end. I liked the relationship between these sisters and the addition of Domino to the story just warmed my heart.
These sisters are brilliant characters. Fliss who manages to get herself into trouble adds a lighter touch to the story and her love for Domino makes her a warm loving character. Jenna as a police officer has developed a hard exterior. At first, she seems harsh and cold, yet as the story unfolds her softer side is revealed and you see that she is a woman who takes her role as a police officer and big sister very seriously. I look forward to learning more about her in the next book.
This one will be added to my loved list for the year and I cannot wait to start the next book – Someone’s There. Keep an eye out, I will add a review for that one soon.

I love a crime thriller and i have read some awesome ones, i love tvshows like it so this book sounded like it would tick alot of the boxes for me.
So when one evening the police respond to "bloodcurdling" screams in the night, D.S Jenna Morgan is first at the scene, not sure what she is walking into it is unexpected, when she finds her sisters Dalmataion seriously injured a chain of dark and twisted events is set in motion. We then follow the team as they try to piece what has happened.
We also see the narrative from Fliss's point of view as she tries to understand what is happening. We also get glimpses of "The Keeper" Boy oh boy, there was alot i did not see coming with this, i was guessing and solving alongside the team but i didnt expect the conclusion.
Within the first few pages i felt panicked, worried and anxious - its the sort of read that really grips at your emotions but it was worth it. Jenna is a fantastic leading lady and i cant wait to follow her story more. Fliss was something else, she was a strong willed - fighter and she was not one to mess with so to see her broken was not a pleasant experience.
Overall this was a great read and like i mentioned i cannot wait to read more!

The Keeper is the first in the DS Jenna Morgan series. This was pretty dark for a police procedural, including some psychological thriller elements as well. We see the crime from a few perspectives including the victim and the perpetrator.
DS Morgan’s sister Fliss goes missing while walking her beloved dog who is found hurt and near a woman’s body. Jenna must search for her sister before time runs out for her.
The Keeper had a great pace, and was a good start to a police procedural series. It was on the darker side, just because that is usually the case for me when we get perspectives including the victim and the details directly in more of a first person feel. But I thought it was well done and I loved reading the criminal chapters and trying to figure out from the details if the police were getting closer or if they were hidden in the story along the way yet. That kind of writing really pulls me in and helps the pace move.
Really interesting start to a series and I’ll definitely be keeping my eye out for the next one!

DS Jenna Morgan is called to investigate terrifying screams in the Ironbridge Gorge. One of the witnesses remembers the person screaming shouting out the word Domino who is the Dalmatian that belongs to her sister Felicity AKA Fliss.
Jenna gets a deep dread in the pit of her stomach, especially because she ignored a previous call from Fliss. When Domino is found severely injured, the big question is where is Fliss?
Now the hunt is on to find her and Jenna cannot be involved in the case. But when she is has a slight way of being involved in the case as long as she is chaperoned so not to jeopardise the case, she jumps at it.
When a body is discovered
all hands are on deck to find Fliss but the suspect is hiding in plain sight and is the most unlikely kidnapper.

"Top-notch thriller"
Everything about this book oozes quality. The writing is excellent. The story line is refreshingly different and backed up with strong characters. This ranks high in the Top 10 books I've read in 2020. Recommended.

I wanted to love this book as it’s where I was born & raised. I didn’t. It was fine. But nothing spectacular.
And loses a star for the narrator pronouncing Shrewsbury wrong. There is not & never has been an ‘O’ in there

I love it when I discover a brilliant new-to-me author. I've had this book in my Audible library for a while but only just got round to listening. Once I started I couldn't stop and finally finished at 2.50am. Good job I didn't need to get up early!
This is a brilliant police procedural. The plot was intriguing and well thought out and soon had me hooked. I didn't guess who the kidnapper was until just before the reveal. I loved the setting of Ironbridge, an area I've never visited although it's on my list of places to visit. The characters were well written and realistic. Jenna Morgan is a likeable protagonist and I also liked Ryan, the new young DC. And let's face it who can resist a book where one of the characters is a Dalmation called Domino :-)
The narration by Kate Sobey was great.

on the edge of my seat
I enjoyed this suspenseful story. I love a good who done it, where I can try to break the case with my clue-gathering skills. I figured out the who around chapter 27. Yet I was still at the edge of my seat to the end.
There are a few POV perspectives. The criminal, DS Jenna and the sister Fliss.
Fliss was out walking her Dalmatian Domino and stumbled upon a man. Believing Fliss caught him in the act he tries to kill Domino and Fliss.
DS Jenna call to a possible crime scene soon discovers her sister is missing. Jenna is praying she will find her sister in time.

This story begins so quietly, but the subtle suspense builds very quickly. A dramatic twist leaves the reader reeling. Totally addicted, you have to find out what happens next.
There is a psychological element to this story, but not in the traditional sense., as there is no clear, unreliable protagonist. Rather, this is a fast-paced crime thriller, with a well-thought-out police procedural, and a disturbing, menacing ethos. The crimes are not graphically depicted, but are harrowing and resonate.
Jenna Morgan is a likeable detective, who engages with the reader. This crime is personal, you see her flaws and vulnerability seeping through her professional exterior. She’s easy to empathise you want her to have the outcome she seeks.
With an interesting team of detectives, that all have their own stories, this promises to be an absorbing series. The detective team is male-dominated, which may be authentic, but it would be good to see more women on the team in future stories.
The clues to finding the killer are hidden in plain sight, but knowing who increases the intensity. The ending is a pure adrenaline rush.

Really gripping from the very start with the action and the suspense.

Well, this certainly is a great start to a new series!
The author has created a wonderful set of characters and I enjoyed getting to know them.
I love the team of investigators and if I have to pick a favorite one, it would be a hard choice. After some reflection, I think I would pick Mason. He is a typical male, but has a heart of gold and he made me smile as well. He is loyal and honest. Who does not love a man like that? 😉
The author knows how to add creepiness to a story. I read a big part of it last night and I decided to finish it this morning. 🙂
I would never have guessed that this would be the culprit. I admit that this person acted a bit strange at a certain point, but hey acting strange is not synonym for murderer.
The story illustrates that some people can keep their true colours very well hidden.
I am looking forward to DS Morgan’s next adventure. 4 stars.

I mainly read romance stories but I do like a good thriller from time to time and this was a good thriller. In fact, it was a fabulous one. Detective Sergeant Jemma Morgan responds to a report of screams and is shocked to find her sister's injured Dalmation but no sign of her sister, Fliss. After also finding the body of a woman nearby, the seriousness escalates. Is the body connected to Fliss's disappearance or is it just coincidence?
I won't say any more as I can't bear reviews that give spoilers out but this is a superb story which kept me reading late at night to see what would happen. Highly recommended. Looking forward to the next one already

thank you for giving me a copy I so enjoyed and I from Shropshire where book is set this book is twisty addictive a must read Jenna is a detective . with a sister and dog that she finds annoying . then one night Fliss and Domino go for a walk but she never comes back as she found something she should not but the caracters in this book are brilliant I so cant wait for book 2 a must read so recommend

I was super excited to find a new series and a new author. Then I found myself skipping through pages of onerous description. Page after page of stinging tears and tight fists in her stomach. Skipping more pages and not missing any actual progress to the case.

It was okay. I’ve read better police procedurals. This didn’t have a whole lot of investigation it was mor character driven.

The book started off a tad slow but then when DS Jenna Morgan realized her sister Fliss was missing and her dog Domino almost dead things started heating up. Some how there was some connection between the naked dead woman and Fliss's disappearance but what. The police felt she did not fall into the river but was taken against her will. They kept following the evidence. The book would pull you in and you'd think maybe you know who the kidnapper was and then poof, no way. I couldn't put the book down. I wanted to know if Fliss would survive the sicko who took her and if her sister DS Jenna Morgan would save the day like she did when they were kids. The sicko kept telling Fliss that he knew she recognized him but she didn't and that was he primary reason for taking her.

This is a new author and series to me, I fell in love with the cover though so I just had to read it.
This started off nice and easy just Fliss moaning about her sister Jenna and life whilst taking her beloved dog Domino for his usual walk.
Then all hell breaks out and both Fliss and Domino are fighting for survival.
When Fliss is taken DS Jenna Morgan will do anything it takes to get her sister back!.
What such great characters this book has, I got emotional a few times reading about the love Jenna and Fliss have for each other.
The book sets up character relationships lovely so you can’t wait to read the next in the series to find out how it progresses.
I should warn you that the perpetrator is absolutely terrifying.
