Building contractor Josie Pigeon and her all-woman construction crew have a big project to wrap up before the holidays--and they're hard at work when carpenter Caroline Albrecht keels over, fatally poisoned.
Suddenly an icy wind of suspicion chills the cheer of this quiet island resort town, and Josie realizes that one of her employees must be Caroline's murderer. Is it Caroline's old friend Layne? Sandy, who scarcely knew her? . . . or good-time local girl Betty? It will take Josie's razor-sharp eye and smart sleuthing to single out the suspect and keep Christmas from turning into a real killer of a season.

Dat viel reuze mee. Op basis van de synopsis had ik me op het ergste voorbereid. Ik denk niet nog andere delen uit de serie te gaan lezen mocht ik ze tegenkomen.
This is a nice holiday cozy with a twist. Josie Pigeon runs her own all female construction company. I like the main character. She's quirky, but not lame. Too many of the recent cozy mysteries have female leads who I don't care about because they're not women I'd want as a friend. Josie would be someone I could hang out with and not want to smack her.
The actual mystery wasn't the most important part of the story, so if you read for the complexity of the crime solving, give it a miss. If you like interesting characters or holiday books, this one might entertain you.
Josie is amateur sleuth who owns and operates an all-female construction company. When one of her crew is murdered and her best friend is arrested, Josie and her boy friend search for the real culprit. What makes Josie an interesting character is not her expertise at remodeling, but her messy, disorganized lifestyle---a protagonist with lots of flaws. Her attempt to plan the perfect Christmas while pushing to free her friend and complete her construction deadline is endearingly inept.
Josie Pigeon doesn't seem organized enough to run a successful construction business, but maybe she compartmentalizes: businesses in one place, the mess that is her apartment in another. The saving grace is she is good-hearted and patient. And in the end, she does seem to get most things done. Her boyfriend is a saint. I especially like the way this mystery ended (and it is not really a spoiler alert, well, sort of): nobody did it.
