Four sexy wolves stand between me and my sworn enemy. I can join them at Werewolf Academy... or die.
After my parents die in a fire, the Darken pack comes to town. The werewolves are here for one thing: me.
The Darken made a promise to keep me safe, and I need their protection more now than ever before. It turns out that my family has been keeping a secret from me my entire life: I'm a werewolf--a powerful one--and my life is in danger.
The only place where I'll be safe is at Werewolf Academy, a boarding school for shifters like us.
I feel an unnatural pull to Aiden, Colton, Rhys, and Theo, the cocky Alpha of the pack who wants to claim me as his own.
The only problem?
One hint: It's not that I'm failing Lunar Magic 101.
I'm mated to all of them.
Hidden Alpha is a YA paranormal reverse harem/paranormal academy romance. Recommended for ages 17+.
Incredibly childish. Far worse than anything I've ever read by these authors. They have books I adore, like the Howl series, but this is impossible to read. The writing is like fifth grade twilight fan fiction. The main character kisses a random boy, meets super sexy werewolf hunks, learns werewolves are real, learns that she's a werewolf too because of course she is, even though she had no idea they even existed five minutes earlier because of course she wouldn't, and she just rolls with it. There's no buildup, no reality in some of these newer books, and it's all so rushed. Less than ten pages into the story and you've already info dumped about a tragic backstory, an evil villain, an academy, and the main character doesn't see anything wrong with any of this. It's so unbelievable it's unreadable. I cringed multiple times just reading the first chapter.
DNF. Not worth the time. Actually really sad to see writers that are capable of so much more just rolling out book after book after book with no effort involved. There's been a decline in the quality of their later works. But this kind of "sexy harem" stuff sells a lot better than books with an actual plot and real character growth.
This was just a fun read to begin the day with. The characters were okay, if a but predictable, and the setting sounded gorgeous. The mean girl clique was very typical of the genre, but after a brief appearance, or two, they didn’t have much to do with the plot although I’m hoping that will change in future books a the Jessie was a nasty piece of work in the making.
We find out a few secrets surrounding Raven and why Milos is desperate to marry her. Her heritage is uncovered and it leads to quite the twist at the end if the book that I wasn’t expecting but am very much here for.
In case you’re wondering, there is no graphic sex scenes (ya girl is still a virgin), and I don’t recall any bad language if that is also something that doesn’t appeal. There is no real violence, or blood and gore, so if this sounds interesting to you, I’d recommend giving it a whirl.
This was a big DNF for me. There is no background or story. It is crazy rushed and thrown together. I felt like there were huge chunks of the book missing. I have absolutely no idea how this has such good reviews. There is no depth, no emotion, no development, nothing.
Her parents died two week before the start of the book. She is at a party. She seems to just not care much about the fact they recently died. It’s just kinda mentioned in passing, oh there’s a bonfire with smoke, my parents died two weeks ago in a fire. *insert eye roll*
In the first chapter she meets a guy and immediately kisses him. She passes out, comes to and said guy is there with 3 others. He is replying to all her thoughts and tells her she is a werewolf and so are they. She must come with them immediately to another world. She gives pretty much no fight or argument, just runs off with 4 strange men who are telling her something that she didn’t think existed 30 seconds before. Trusting & gullible much?!? Does she even have a brain?!? *insert eye roll*
She abandons her best friend at said party and doesn’t even contact her to let her know she’s ok and alive. She also abandons her uncle who just lost part of his family without a word. So not only is she brainless, she’s heartless.
She takes none of her belongings with her. Where is she getting stuff? Money isn’t mentioned either. So much is left out.
We also randomly find out she doesn’t remember anything before the age of 13 and she’s 19. It’s described as being funny, that her and her parents laughed about it. Ummm if I had no memory for 13 years, I think I’d be worried about it and wanting to see some doctors. The FMC is a complete airhead. Haha I don’t remember my childhood, that’s so funny.
Not to mention she’s just graduated her junior year of high school and is 19? Did she get held back? Of course we have no idea about much of anything.
The sex scenes were blah.
The fact a kiss is what binds them eternally is weird. Most require sex or a ceremony of some kind. What happens if a werewolf gets drunk and kisses another werewolf? They are just stuck for life together. Oops!
I couldn’t read anymore. It was like just the basic ideas of a book idea and not an actual book. Not sure I will read anything from these authors again.

This would is like a child’s book peppered with adult themes. I personally want a fan of this shifter series bc it came off a little childish. Instead of acting like a pack who has met their mate, the guys act immature and get all jealous and short when she spends time or flirts with the others. I’m used to reading RH shifter romances where everyone is chill with what’s rolling out. Then on top of it there were some big reveals but written in such a blasé fashion it was like 🤷♀️ “ok cool so she’s really the shifter princess from a long time ago moving on...” how do you drop a bomb that big and then just act like it’s really no big deal, when she’s supposed to have had parents in this life time and blah blah blah? Then she’s sorted into two houses which never happens and again it’s all like 🤷♀️. The characters felt flat and had no depth, the guys were one thing but it’s the whole book with characters. Her “friends” are I think supposed to be her best friends because they say I love you guys or some bull crap yet she asks them to have her back at this important meeting and they’re like “well I gotta study” and the other one “I got a date” how do you claim to be best friends when your friend really needs you? Add in the grammatical mistakes and this book becomes a flop. What I really didn’t like though was this thought behind how they can only transform into their shifter selves if they are wearing a necklace.... I mean what is supposed to be special is that shifters shouldn’t need jewelry to be in their “natural forms” it’s blurring the lines between shifter and Witchery when you are relying on enchanted objects. This book needs some major work and because the next one isn’t out I feel like this is these authors’ chance to reconfigure this book. It has potential, but it’s such a little baby book with adult themes it needs some major work and a better editing job.
Well, they just jump right into it in this book. Within the first 4%, the FMC, Raven, is learning from strangers that her parents were murdered rather than just killed in a fire and that she's a werewolf.
After that, she's sent to a school that screams Hogwarts. The storyline isn't far off, either. She's an orphan who everyone knows the name of, whose parents were murdered and seemingly well known, she didn't know she was magic, and she's going to be sorted into one of four houses at the academy. Sound familiar?
The writing seems to be done by an amateur author. I didn't do any background search to see if it is or not, but it's my assumption. "Werewolf Academy" is sort of what you'd expect to see on the pay per chapter apps. That all being said, that's not to say that I'm not enjoying the story because I am. Just be prepared that it may not be at the same standard you'd normally see in other books.
Finally, and this can be connected to the previous point I made, the book has some editing issues. Spelling mistakes, wrong names, etc. A couple of examples in the last 5% of the book are included:
"But what was even more fun than that was seeing all of the *girls* in their swim trunks." (This should be "guys" as she's referring to the Darken pack.)
"Raven *Black*" (She was called this after their final track meet. Her last name is Gallagher, though her headmaster's last name is Black.)
I'm going to continue with the series because I'm enjoying the plot, but be warned that if you read it, you're not in for a challenging read.
I read the first chapter & that was honestly enough for me.
FMC meets a boy at a party and within minutes, literally minutes, she is kissing said stranger. She then passes out, and wakes up surrounded by 4 strangers now, including kiss boy, who can read her thoughts. He tells her he’s a werewolf & informs her that her parents death (that apparently happened just two weeks ago, yet her main concern the page before this was the start of her senior year 🙄) was actually not an accident. They were murdered! Not only were they murdered, but they were also werewolf’s! AND they weren’t just any regular werewolf’s, nope, her father was a really powerful alpha! AND she’s a powerful werewolf that this other werewolf wants to marry so they can rule together! (Which is why he killed her parents!!) AND she’s told she needs to go to a werewolf boarding school in order to stay safe. And literally, after knowing these guys for all of 10 minutes, he says “okay, I’ll go” and ACTUALLY GOES!
(I’m not exaggerating. ALL of that information was given in the first chapter. ALL. OF. IT.)
It’s just lazy writing honestly. No buildup, no story building, no world building, no beginnings of character development. Just right off the bat: tragic backstory, enemy identified, secrets revealed, and the main character just rolls with it.
Werewolf Academy: Year One ~~ is the first book in a fast-paced, supernatural series that follows a teenage girl who finds herself thrown into a world she never knew existed. After a life-changing event, she discovers she’s not entirely human and is sent to a secret academy where young werewolves are trained to control their powers and stay hidden from the human world.
The story is set in a mysterious boarding school full of secrets, rivalries, and budding romances. As the protagonist navigates her new life, she meets a group of four very different boys—each with their own unique personalities and potential romantic tension. The plot balances moments of humor, emotional vulnerability, and supernatural suspense, all while hinting at larger threats in the world beyond the academy’s walls.
The writing is accessible and fast-moving, making it a great pick for fans of paranormal school settings, slow-burn romance, and coming-of-age stories with a fantasy twist. While it keeps things relatively light, the book hints at deeper emotional and personal challenges that unfold more as the series progresses.
I definitely recommend this series especially if you enjoy stories like Vampire Academy or House of Night, but with a werewolf spin, this book is a solid start to a fun, intriguing series. Now onto book 2!!
If you're in search of a light read, a story that doesn't challenge you and features a protagonist with protective mates, then this series might be for you. Just be aware that some events may lack sufficient detail, and there will be a few mistakes.
Personally, I found the beginning of the story quite frustrating. For example, when Raven Gallagher arrives at the academy, she has nothing with her. So, how does she acquire all her clothing?
This marks the fourth series I've read by these authors. I began with Siren's Lullaby, then moved on to Witches of Shadow Hill, and finally, Paranormal Academy. I must say, it doesn't seem to improve.
While it's true that each story has potential and interesting plots, the execution consistently falls short. Still, I plan to continue reading to see if there’s any improvement.
In this particular story, I’m curious to discover what or who the triangle is that Raven either forgot to mention to the Darken or that the plot will simply be overlooked!
It was funny, but I don’t think it was supposed to be
So the book really wasn’t good. Juvenile writing. No real chemistry. The only thing it had going for it was its obvious rip off of Harry Potter, which I found really fun. Similarities between the books **SPOILERS*** both parents dead by evil guy, don’t know they are a werewolf (wizard), both famous within their communities for whatever reason, school with four different houses, of the four houses one contains a house which usually can produced evil werewolves (ie Slythern/wizard). Hell they even had a sorting, but instead of it being hat, they cut a piece of hair and you were sorted into your house. Even had the possibility of being sorted into two houses, just like Harry with Gryfindor and Slythern. Honestly, the first half of the book was funny as hell as I kept waiting for the next copied element. Unfortunately it got boring really fast.
Nice concept and cute attempt; however, ultimately it was not well developed in the case of the characters nor plot. The FMC Raven literally went along with everything to fast and too "easily". The guys, for being Ancients, acted childish or had little depth. You had more from Theo and Aidan than from Rhys or Colton. How she ultimately loves them is beyond me as it's not illustrated much from this story. Too much happens behind the scenes vs reading about it. Also all this build up to find out she is this well-known Ancient and so little reaction with this? Why the build up if there was nothing done with this info? Why change the dynamics of the pack? Like a said, nice attempt but needs more development and detail and less jumping around and fading to black.
At this point, it's to be expected that the first book of a paranormal academy romance series pales in significance in the grand scheme of things. It's a buffer of sorts, like putting on shaving cream before shaving- it preps the storyline and the characters.
The pacing of this book was slightly rushed as we were briefly introduced to the each characters so it was hard to form any strong connections aside from Raven but it was more of a taster. It would have been better if were were able to get part of the book in the Darken's pack POV. I think this would have boosted the connection and built a stronger voice for each member of the pack which is especially for a RH.
It would have been nice to learn more about Milos. I guess - hope -it's in the next book.
I felt this book was 4 different puzzles trying to fit together. I love splitting up the books by years and was so excited about the RH aspect. Unfortunately, starting in book one, the RH aspect was not really a thing and never really became a thing. The main male love interests were all jealous of each other and from day one were all about making her choose between them. The book also felt a bit strange with the fact that two weeks ago, the main characters parents died in a fire and now she is out partying with friends and meeting random guys. Then 5 minutes after she meets this random guy, finds out he's a werewolf, she's a werewolf and then agrees to go with him some place. Just moved rather quickly for me. I did finish the series as I was curious where it would take me. Overall, I personally, would not read this again.

After her parents die in a fire Raven is confronted by the Darken pack who have sworn to keep her safe. She has been kept in the dark all her life by her parents and they failed to tell her she’s a werewolf and the only place she will be safe is werewolf academy. She soon discovers she has more powers than she should have and the 4 guys that saved her have their suspicions about who she really is. I love her attraction to Aiden, Colton, Rhys, and Theo but now she needs to choose who will be her one and only mate as she can’t choose all 4. This is the first book I have listened to by Jayme and Jody but I will be on the look out for more and I am eagerly awaiting year two of werewolf academy.
Ok so I’m not a quitter. I very rarely do not finish a book. I will not be finishing this one. The grammar issues are a little rough but not awful. I feel like the FMC Raven is very agreeable and there are several plot holes that don’t really make any sense. Like how is she 19 and she just finished her junior year of high school? She immediately runs off with 4 strangers and in the few chapters I read she doesn’t ask any significant questions. I prefer my female characters strong, intelligent and independent. Raven doesn’t give off any of that. The story feels rushed and maybe if the authors rewrote and gave the plot more time to develop instead of forcing it that would help.
Very juvenile writing and, while I hate when books drag on setting up the “scene”, this one was seriously lacking. She was waaaayyy too accepting of everything; she apparently missed her parents who died 2 weeks ago but it’s barely mentioned so there’s no heartache from the reader, NO background is even given about her (I thought I missed a whole book because of how much was missing), from when she meets the guys and bonding with one happened in like a page, etc. Not very enjoyable and doesn’t allow you to connect with the characters, which is a shame since I really liked the concept. Will not be moving on to book 2.
Omg I really enjoyed this book 📖 I was completely and utterly hooked from first chapter those gorgeous, sexy , drool 🤤 worthy wolves 🐺 ...I mean yummy 😋 I would be all over them like a rash ha ha 😂 Raven is a strong independent young woman who wants to vengeance, but will she get it , will her friends turn out to be her friends , will those pesky she wolfs 🐺 behave .....I suppose I will just have to keep on reading my new little addiction "..seriously love 💕 love ❤️ love 💗
Captivating, stunning, unique, beautiful story. Meet Raven the unsuspecting, unknowing, strong main character who is thrust into a whole new world when the Darken show up offering her protection. The Darken who are hot, protective and enthralling.
There are twists and turns galore, mysteries that need to be solved, brilliant friends, sworn enemies and of course romance.
This book pulls you into a world you never want to leave. Cannot wait for book 2!
After the first two or three chapters I was disappointed and ready to dump it. However I persisted. Number one the beginning was too abrupt and choppy Raven did not seem to be morning her recently deceased parents, she was Boozing with friends. One minute she's boozing it up and the next she is at the academy. Needless to say, except for the serious editing errors I thought the book improved greatly after the third chapter.
I rated it 5 stars because of how creative it was. Although I didn’t feel as involved with the emotions as it didn’t really feel natural, but I’m 36 and maybe I’m just to old for the book to really enjoy it? There was a kiss here n there, especially with the ages of these Ancients, I thought it would have been a bit more mature than that. Otherwise, the storyline was built very creatively. It was a single POV and it really opened up her character.
I’m intrigued to see what book two brings as we were left with a few unanswered questions and unresolved issues. Year One at Werewolf Academy has proved trying for Raven as she becomes more aware of buried secrets and her connection to the Darken Pack. We aren’t left with a big cliffhanger, but I’m compelled to check out book two.
I absolutely loved this book! I love the bond between Raven and the Darken. It is the first RH I've read and I was not disappointed. With that being said, there was so errors I caught. Typos, spacing between words and paragraphs, etc. I cannot wait to start book two in this series.
I just love when a book ropes me in and leaves me begging for more!! A few typos and wrong words .. but that can be fixed!! Loved the characters, plot and the possibilities in the next books!! Can’t wait!!!
I feel in love with the story from the beginning. We follow as she tries to cope with learning the truth of who she is. Then sa she fights for her mates. What will happen next term now that she has her mates and pack?
I enjoyed this first look into this unknown world. Raven is full of surprises. I am in love with a pack of men and so jealous of Raven. I cannot wait to see what unfolds in this series!
Great book, lots of action.Four very sexy werewolves, one lost and found princess.Who will get to her first an try to kill her?Gotta read the next book to find out.
With the state of the world right now; a good book soothes the soul. I enjoyed this book cover to cover and I am about to read book two. This is worth your money, and your time.
