Monopoly Dad

Rate this book
Sonny Wentworth parked his hotel on my Broadway, and all I can think about is passing O. Screw the two-hundred dollars; what I really want to collect is him.

Being a gossip columnist is a tough biz. When I discover the world’s richest criminal has a secret child, I leap at the chance to cozy up with him for a scoop.

There are worse ways to pay for my kid’s corn flakes than "dating" the hottest single dad in the universe.

Sure, with his criminal past, there’s a lot at stake if he finds me out. But that doesn’t scare kick-butt journalists like me.

It’s the falling in love part that has me shaking in my heels.

If I don’t get my hands on a scoop soon, I’ll be out of a job, but my hands are interested in playing with other things. (Can I get a "wink, wink"?)

It’s time to win me some prime real estate on the Monopoly Dad board. But what will happen if he finds out who I really am?
. . .

No Cliffhanger. HEA. Full-Length Romance Novel.

This slow-burn romance offers a HEA (happily ever after) ending for those love it when their heroes kiss at the end! It is a standalone novel in the Black Market Billionaire series, which tells the tale of seven very bad boys with (mostly) good hearts and great looks. Will their violent pasts leave them lonely, or will they find love where they least expect it?

WARNING: Story contains mention of childhood abuse. This edition has been rewritten for quality from the original 2019 release.

The romance was pretty low-key and cool, but Sweeney really shines at the dialogue and characterisation. There were lots of funny moments and the book overall is pretty much just 'zany hijinks.'

Would not recommend you read for the hero. It's perfectly safe, he's a single dad who was raped by his stepmother and has felt no attraction to females until the heroine, but it's just lacking in steam.

There are a number of triggers to this story but it was easy for me to overlook all of those. This story made me laugh almost from the first page. There is so much more than a simple romance or mystery here. The main characters are both a mess. Sonny is lucky to be alive but that life carries plenty of problems from his past. Richie is recovering from a divorce that left him responsible for a daughter who tests him all the time. Richie works two jobs yet daughter Casey has no respect for him. When Richie decides getting a story or Sonny the fun begins. This is in no way a normal getting to know you romance. Sonny has so many social problems that he has to hire a dating coach. Richie in his own way has personality issues. Together they have trouble connecting. Along the way their daughters keep them on their toes. Add in a few other secondary characters and this story just held my attention and made me love it. This author has a gift for putting together circumstances that should not be funny yet are. At the end the author does a great job of overcoming the roadblocks. I can’t wait for the next in the series.

Sonny is a powerful and wealthy man with a notorious past whose activities garner attention wherever he goes. There is so much more to him than first appears as evidenced by his relationship with his daughter.

Rachel is a single mother who is looking for her next story. Who better to investigate than Sonny especially since she knows a way to get close to him. Let the mayhem begin!

This story has everything you could want and more. Intrigue, heat, humor and two characters that will definitely keep you entertained.

It was actually rather hilarious. More than I expected anyway. It is still rather clear that it used to be MF story, some details and scenes just do not fit and there are a couple times he becomes her in narrative. Whoopsie. I liked Sonny, he was a pretty badass character with a lot of issues, but somehow he is very aware of who and what he is, and he accepts it all with no drama and apologies about being who he really is. I really liked that. Richie? He was a hot mess. Casey was utterly annoying. Greta and Jungle are amazing. So you can clearly see where my loyalty was in this story. The plot was just as ridiculous tragic-comic as the first book, so at least it was in the same style. I liked this story as an entertaining read, even though half of the characters were annoying :D

First of all let me say that I got this book from gay romance reviews and this is me leaving my honest review.
This is the second book in the series of blood Brothers and in this book we learn more about Sonny
Sonnie is a multi billionaire bringing up a daughter by himself with the hell of the brothers of course! . He goes to watch her every game, playing basketball, although he has to wear a mask so people don’t realise who he is and get scared of him or his daughter Greta. He has a reputation of being a murderer, of an inside trader and somebody you don’t want to mess with. He was watching his daughter played one day when another father of one of the girls on the team comes out and sits Beside him and starts making conversation. Sonny is always on his guard as people mainly want him for his money but as he gets to know Richie he finds himself intrigued.
Richie is a journalist bringing up his adoptive daughter by himself since he divorced his ex-husband Chris. Chris was an awful husband an even worse father and even now when he comes to pick up Casey he flaunts his money around, he doesn’t give any child support for the care of Casey. When he finds out that Sonny is going to the games of his daughters team he quickly realises if he can get to talk to him he could get a scoop and get some money coming in. But after the conversation he had with sunny he doesn’t feel like he can write a story on him , it wouldn’t be right so informs his boss there is no story there. And they continue to get to know each other.
There are other stories going on within this book there’s a story of Greta and her homeless friends jungle AKA Moe. Moe is a 13-year-old kid who is being trained to be a soldier and he’s very good at what he does but Sonny is not happy about this friendship. Especially when he finds out that Moe has been teaching Greta how to make a bomb. But it is obvious that Moe just wants to keep Greta safe. Then you’ve got Casey who is Richie’s daughter who is a spoiled brat. Hates being poor thinks she knows it all but has got a hell of a lot of growing up to do.
I could not for this book down it was just a brilliant read Sonny is such a complex character has so many sides of him but when you hear about his history it makes you heartbroken for the boy that he was. on the story about how Greta came about broke my heart. Everything about is so wrong but He is a stunning father and the proof is in the amazing daughter he has. But don’t get me started on Sonny’s father because he is an absolute disgrace to the human race . He made my skin crawl every time he came in the book.
I’ve Gotta say I am thoroughly enjoying this series and I cannot wait for Connor story.

I have loved everything Skylar Sweeney has written and Monopoly Daddy has been no different. Once I picked it up, my brain refused to focus on anything other than this book, because her writing is that addictive - filled with hilarious characters and so many twists and turns that you never really know what's going to happen next.

This book picks up right where Heart Thief left off - with Sonny being gifted a dating service by his daughter. He goes and meets with his dating coach, but isn't really committed to any of this. Which turns out to be a good thing, because he soon meets Richie, the father of another girl from his daughter's basketball team and the first person to draw his interest almost ever. The two somehow bond, because Richie isn't put off or unnerved by the way Sonny speaks or his alleged rudeness (caused by an injury to his brain in his youth). However, unbeknownst to Sonny, Richie is a gossip columnist looking for a scoop.

Both characters are great, coming in with some baggage but somehow making their relationship very low angst. They accept each other for who they are - mostly. The times their relationship faces hurdles, they are incredibly realistic and honestly, the reactions felt completely right. They didn't feel overblown for the sake of drama.

Then rounding out the cast we have the occasional cameo from the other Brothers, especially Conner who lives with Sonny. I really wish we would've seen more of them in this book, honestly, because they were some of my favorite parts in the first book and it would've been amusing to see more of them from Sonny's POV.

This book did also offer POV changes outside of Richie and Sonny - primarily in the form of Sonny's daughter and her friend/crush, Jungle, who shares a lot in common with Sonny once we get to know him more.

This book is rife with found family, single dads, and cuteness. There were multiple points that made me laugh out loud. This book is nowhere near as steamy as the first one in this series, but that worked really well for the characters. This book was fun and I cannot wait for the next one in the series.

WARNING: This book contains allusions to childhood sexual abuse and child abuse.

I read book 1 Heart Thief, and then immediately had to jump into this one. The idea that "retired" mercenaries have all formed a sort of found family was one I just loved. In book 1 Sonny is seen to be a mostly disinterested party to much of the groups shenanigans. He is never seen smiling and this book finally explains to us why that is.

Richie is a hot mess. He's recovering from a pretty crappy divorce with the added bonus of custody issues with their daughter. He works two jobs to support them, but his daughter Casey only sees that they live modestly compared to her other father Chris. She resents Richie for this and I wanted to smack her at some points for how mean she was to him. That man adores his daughter and she appreciates zero of it.

Between the fact that Richie is lying about who he is and Sonny being socially awkward AF, the romance was kind of odd. I dug it though. What they mostly have in common is that both of these men are fathers who strive to put their kid first. Unlike Casey, though Sonny's daughter Greta has grown up quite unconventional, Greta has a good head on her shoulders and a big heart. The parts with her and Moe were my favorite actually. It was just so sweet with those two.

Everyone's favorite gigolo Connor appears to be the next from their merry little band of mercenaries to fall in love. We've been given a few tidbits of info about Connor from previous books and I look forward to learning more in book 3.

ARC received from GRR for an honest review.

Richie needs a big story to get a payday from the rag mag he works at. He's tired of cleaning houses and watching his ex flash his new money. When he gets the opportunity to do a story on Sonny he jumps on it. It isn't long after his first encounter that he realizes that he can't write a story about Sonny. He decides that he'll give dating him a try. It isn't long before he's second guessing that decision.

Sonny is the Bossman. He may be retired but he's no less lethal. He may be the richest man but what's really important to him is his daughter and his brothers. He hasn't felt attracted to anyone since his brain injury, so why is he suddenly attracted to Richie?

I really liked Richie and Sonny together. I felt like Richie saw the real Sonny and he was in their relationship for all the right reasons. I liked the little mystery/intrigue going on in the background; although, I wished that Chris had paid for his crimes. I really liked Greta and Moe but didn't like Casey at all. Hopefully Casey will become a decent person as she grows up, as even at the end of the book she was still a self-absorbed, selfish kid who never really made up to Richie for her hateful behavior. As in book one this book had me lol in many places. I'm really looking forward to reading book three. I hope there's a book for all seven brothers. Highly recommend this book/series to anyone who likes MM romance with mystery/intrigue involved.

FR

Well, I would say that this new opus did not disappoint me. The main character is still as explosive as his alter eco totally next to his pumps. I love the tortured, out-of-reality characters visualized by S. Sweeney. And those are no exception. Interesting these two diametrically opposed and yet complementary personalities. I just regret that lovers of "brothers" are always so insecure and absurd in their behavior. My vision of French undoubtedly which does not adhere to this vision as well feminine side as masculine. My only downside is that we perceive too much that originally one of the protagonists had been thought of as being a woman, naive of course, but a woman all the same.

I really loved this story! I am a huge sucked for a single dad romance. This one has 2 single dads doing everything they can for their daughters. Richie is a reporter and is looking for a huge story so he can continue to provide for his little girl. In comes Sonny and his secret daughter and its a story Richie cant resist. He quickly realizes that falling in love wasn’t in the plan and he can no longer write his story. Sonny has focuses completely on his family. He hasn’t been attracted to anyone since his brain injury until he meets Richie. Richie and Sonny click so instantly and I absolutely loved them together. They brought out the best in each other and I loved their dynamic. This book had me laughing so hard in places and swooning over the sweet moments. I am loving this series and i am so hoping for a book 3!!!

I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review.

POV: 1st person dual POV

Mmh okay, where do I start with this book?

First, the story was unusual, which was really good. We have dual POV: from Sonny and Richie.
Sonny is a billionaire son who got raised more than untraditional. He got sent off with the sons of other billionaires to get raised in the woods to get survival training.
He got a daughter when he was really young with his stepmother (it never got really acknowledged that this was statutory rape...) and got shot in the head not soon after. Since then he has had trouble with emotions.
I liked the character per se. There were some funny situations, but mostly it was borderline disturbing to see the dynamic with his father and the stepmothers...
Richie is a gossip reporter. He is not satisfied with his job and is always struggling with money. When he realizes, that his daughter is training with Sonnys' daughter he thinks he has the scoop of his life...
That part of the story I don't buy at all. There is no chemistry between the characters, the whole thing didn't feel dynamic and I just didn't get Richie.

All in all an unusual story with a lot of triggers.

Monopoly Dad by Skyler Sweeney #2

It’s a romance, nope! It’s a comedy, nope! Mobsters and bad men, nope! Danger and blood, nope! IT’S ALL THE ABOVE!! Sonny Wentworth is the Bossman billionaire, Monopoly murder and AKA Dad ! Dad’s retired or trying to and raising his 13 year old daughter, Greta. Staying on the down low!

Now enters hard working Rachel just trying to make a living and raising her 13 yea0 PMr old daughter Casey ! There is money to be made on Sonny so Rachel is going after the goods. Well it just don’t turn out that way! So the journey begins, is Rachel strong enough to understand his life ? Read it and find out for yourself , oops I left out laughter up there, its messed up in there too! Once started I could barely put it down. Skyler Sweeney knocked it out of the ballpark with the 2nd book of the Black Market Billionaire Series. ….pat….

This is an interesting read: a gossip blogger and a man with a rich criminal history (and also, plenty of riches)form an unlikely bond amidst mayhem, intrigue, and complex family dynamics. Both protagonists are deeply invested in their children, who both enrich their lives and make those lives challenging in a variety of ways. It was hard, sometimes, for me to watch some of Richie’s interactions with his daughter, who occasionally comes off more as a cartoon version of “ungrateful child” than an actual human being, but for the most part I liked that family was so important to both of them. There’s something really compelling about the way the author puts this story together, with flashes of humor in unexpected places and chemistry that shouldn’t really work but somehow does. If the blurb appeals to you, definitely give this one a try.

Sonny is not having much luck with dating so his daughter decides to intervene to help him out. She gives him the gift of access to a dating service in hopes that he will find someone and against all odds he meets Ritchie, another single dad. Both of them are devoted to their daughters. Ritchie is dealing with custody issues and he needs cash. Sonny has kept his daughter Greta secret to keep her safe. When Ritchie, who also happens to be a reporter, finds out about Greta he sees an opportunity for a story that will sell well. But he did not expect that spending time with Sonny would result in catching feelings. Will his desire to tell a story that is a scoop mean the end of their love story? This story was a lot of fun, just like the Heart Thief, with just the right amount of fun, zany and lots of secondary characters that were fun to continue to get to know.

I really loved this book. This is the second in the series but can be read as a standalone. I love the single dad trope and the fact that there are two makes it more fun. There is mystery and lots and lots of romance. Sonny is a journalist who finds his big story in one of the richest men named Richies who supposedly has a secret daughter. Sonny went undercover to get a story only to realize as time went on that he was falling for Richie. He was in a conundrum should he write the story and have his big break or not write it and be with the man he is falling for. Richie is a retired hitman of sorts ( the ex boss) who is very very wealthy; he is one of the seven brothers. He had to retire after his injury. I liked Richie and Sonny, but man Casey Richie’s kid was a piece of work. Greta Sonny’s kid was great and made the parts with Casey a little more bearable. I can't wait for the next one i think it's Gigolo so that should be fun!

Great story! Sonny, is a 28yo assasin who suffered brain damage when he was 15yo, affecting his social balance. He is the richest man in the world and single dad to his daughter, Greta, who loves him unconditionally. He belonged to the secret org, Blood Brothers. Ritchie, 36yo, divorced single dad to 15 yoCasey, was doing the best he could to provide for his daughter. His ex, Chris, didn't help much. He thought getting the 'scoop' on Sonny Wentworth would be his opportunity to get better assignments with his boss, Janis. Everyone was out to get Sonny, and he just wanted to live in peace and be a good dad. Lots of situations and events complicate Sonny's and Ritchie's relationship. Can Sonny protect his privacy? Will Ritchie get his story? Excellent story, Sonny is cool, Greta and Casey are totally, teenagers. Fun story. Well done. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I know a book about a violent criminal who was abused as a child should not be enjoyable, but I liked it. Richie tracks down Sonny to secretly interview him and lies. But something about Sonny appeals to him and he hides his job. Sonny, who is disables, is attracted to him and tries to date him while trying to make his daughter friends with Richie's daughter. All kinds of fiascos happen while they juggle their lives and lies. I absolutely adored Sonny with his issues but total honesty and he is an excellent father. I especially loved The whole Jungle/Greta side story and Jungle's innocence yet worldliness. This book has humor, violence and a wacky family to make it a great read. I personally thought it could use a little more steam. I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest opinion.

The big conflict wasn’t believable

I’m sorry , but I find it very hard to believe that Val didn’t know everything about Richie within 30 minutes of seeing him at the FAQ event to share with Sonny. He was there specifically to vet the people there, and Richie was beyond suspicious. Even if not then, as they got more involved, Sonny would have requested a background check. Or, if all else failed, when Sonny met Richie’s friend from college, he, and the Brothers, would have certainly vetted him at that point. Basically, it just wasn’t believable that Sonny didn’t know Richie’s profession.

I liked that Donal seemed to have some sort of comic book idea that he was untouchable, but his end was almost anti-climactic because Sonny didn’t care about being fair, or bragging about his power/influence.

Sonny is the big boss man however he is trying to keep it away from his daughter. Rachel is a single mom trying to support her family so she goes for a story on Sonny. What she didn't count on was being attracted to him and finding out he was nothing like she thought he was. Sparks fly between them and their banter back and forth ignites a passion between them. However nothing goes they way they would like and a lot of drama ensues. Can they be together with how they met?

This is a funny story that once you start it you won't want to put it down. The chemistry between them is sizzling hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

Sonny and Richie story was funny, dangerous, with lots of adrenaline and friends that will try to make your life interesting.
I was excited to see the kind of person will that will make Sonny fall in love. Richie approaches Sonny under false pretence, but the time they spend together changes his perspective.
There's secrets and miscommunication, a friend that wants revenge, enemies and an old ex that will make their relationship face hardships, and a life threatening event that will solidify their feelings.
I loved the characters development and dynamics, their quirky ways and humour, their way they try to make a connection and how they cope in time of need.
I enjoyed the story and I'm looking forward to see what happens next with our beloved characters.

Unfortunately, 𝘔𝘰𝘯𝘰𝘱𝘰𝘭𝘺 𝘋𝘢𝘥𝘥𝘺 fell way short for me.

I understand that the story was originally published as a m/f romance, but the rerelease was not adequately re𝒘𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒏. It reads like a m/f story. Only there are now two peni$es. Richie is completely unbelievable as a male …. and the uncorrected pronouns scattered throughout didn’t help.

I loved the multiple povs, beyond the two main characters. It’s not often that can be done successfully, but Sweeney made it relevant and pulled it off.

Unfortunately, there just wasn’t enough to keep me going, and in fact, I almost 𝒅𝒏𝒇 multiple times. In fact, after {finally} finishing, I deleted my 𝗔𝗥𝗖. No point in letting it eat up memory when I definitely won’t be reading it {ever} again.

Fantastic book!! I’m a huge gamer so the word Monopoly just kind of pulled me in, even if it wasn’t a gaming book. The characters are so well written readers will think they are catching up on friends and the real life, incredible “can you believe this happened”, drama that surrounds their lives. You’ve got a friend like that-one who has the most bizarre coincidences happen? My favorite characters were Greta and Jungle, even though they weren’t necessarily the main characters of the book. There were some plot moments I expected, but loads that I never saw coming. I couldn’t have wanted more from the book! A definite new favorite author!!

What a great read

This is a very entertaining read, one minute you're laughing the next you're crying and it's full of action. Sonny is a very quirky man, once known as Bossman, he is still feared by many in retirement. Because of an incident in his teens his personality is quite different. Rachel is a journalist looking for the next big gossip to bring in good money to support her daughter and what better way than getting the goods in a rich elusive dangerous man? But when Rachel gets to know him she sees the man behind. His daughter Greta is a hoot and Jungle will steal your heart!

Another triumph, my dear. This book is as equally fantastic as the first in this series. I wouldn’t have missed it for the world. These people, their lives of excitement, their ability to love, in spite of the absolute most bizarre situations, is an amazing element in these stories. I can’t even begin to put into words how enjoyable this book is. Yes, there’s a romance, but the stories behind the love story, the fierceness behind their loyalty to those they love is just about perfect. Read the first, read the subsequent ones because I believe wholeheartedly they will be fantastic! I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book.

Real nice. Loved the slow burn romance. I was about to pass this one up but ended up spending all night reading and I'm glad I did. Richie and Sonny had their ups and downs and major trust issues but through all that they couldn't deny their feelings. Both single parents connected on a deep level and you felt that when they first met and their fairytale ending. Oh I can't leave out the sweet connection/romance between Sonny's daughter Greta and the absolute sweetest young man Jungle/Moe. Their interaction brought smiles to my face. Both so fierce but adorable. I like the idea of the Blood Brothers finding their forever after and can't wait to read Connor's story.

I just loved Sonny and Richie together, they are so attracted to each other and so awkward. Sonny comes with a lot of baggage but Richie sees him as he is and accepts Sonny’s quirks and issues - for the most part. They have an awful lot to go through to get their HEA and the story is a wonderful rollercoaster of action, bad and good guys, family and enemies, two teen daughters and a 13 year old mercenary, who really is a sweetheart I had a hard time putting this book down and if you want to read a sweet, slowburn, actionpacked, hilariously funny story this is it. I can’t wait to read Connor’s story next. Highly recommended.

Not quite the book I was expecting to read. More like a comedy of errors than a romantic suspense but with a very vicious scene thrown in.
Sonny Wentworth thinks wearing a balaclava will hide his identity, but Richie see’s one photo and knows where he can find him.
Richie is a reporter who makes up information if it suits the story he is writing. And the story he wants to write, is all about Sonny Wentworth. Mercenary and assassin.
While Richie is pretending to fall for Sonny, he actually does, but nothing is that easy.

I received this book from GRR. This is my honest review.

If you read and enjoyed the first book, then you should really enjoy the second installment with all the snark, fun banter, and amazingly entertaining.

Sonny and Richie were an absolute blast to read about. Given everything that happens around these two - miscommunication, drama of enemies and exes- just how they manage to fit so much into their lives is really intriguing.
From false pretenses to finding the one that fits.

The blurb drew me into this one. How could I not want to see an assassin whose daughter set him up on a dating service and a gossip reporter who thought he could get away with getting close to said assassin for a story? These two were clearly heading for one big explosion somewhere when the secrets come out and I am a sucker for those kinds of scenes. The addition of the conspiracy plot just added to my enjoyment as the threat brought out Sonny's "protect those I love at all costs side". Watching these two men who should never have worked fall in love was terrific fun.
