You know that thrill you get when you "discover" a fabulous new writer?

It doesn't happen very often. I picked up V.R. Street’s debut novel because I loved the premise. (Who doesn’t fantasize about winning the lottery?) I thought I knew what would happen next. I didn’t. I had no idea.

It’s hard to believe this is Street’s first novel; her writing flows that smoothly and effortlessly. I quickly became so invested in the story that I cleared my schedule for the next day-and-a-half so I could wolf the book down.

Be careful what you wish for: We’ve all been there, right? The plot twists kept me guessing as I lived the dream through Kat’s eyes, strolling through Manhattan’s million-dollar listings, shopping for clothes, cars, a whole new life.

But Kat gets more than she bargained for when her fame-hungry husband talks her into signing onto a new reality show called Lucky.

Getting to see how the sausage is made on the show is an eye-opener and I loved being a fly on the wall even as it became clear that Kat had been right to hesitate to sign on the dotted line.

I don’t want to give anything else away and spoil the book for you. It’s a vicarious rollercoaster ride from start to finish. If you’ve ever wondered what you’d be willing to give up to get what you (think you) want, this novel is a fun, regret-free way to find out while you share Kat’s journey. It sounds corny, but I feel lucky to have found this book and I can’t wait to see what Street writes next.

The plot is obvious, it utilizes the trope of the mousy feeble woman with the handsome man using her. I read the whole thing hoping for the obvious ending that the man gets what's coming to him and the woman becomes more assertive and comfortable with herself. Considering just how formulaic the plot was you'd think I'd be satisfied in the end. Instead the man gets everything he wants and the woman is left alone but with a baby because that's what all women need to be fulfilled. Fuck this book.

What a book! So well written the reader will have a hard time putting it down. The story line is so realistic, the characters are well developed and you'll find yourself loving some , hating some yet still rooting for them to make the right decisions. A truly intriguing and enjoyable read that draws you in.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

"LUCKY"  is definitely one of my favourite books ever. Once you start it ..you just cant put it down.
The idea is new and original. Honestly, the story is very addicting, suspenseful, attaching and well-written. The writer nailed it for real...its full of emotions and i felt literally like living the story with the characters, despite i had never experienced such a thing.
Kat loved Michael so much and was desperate to get pregnant and was willing to do anything to stay with him and to start a family. But the whole time, Michael was being extremly selfish and didnt care about her feelings nor her hopes and projects. Whenever he wanted to satisfy his extravagant whims , even though he didn’t win anything in the first place. He was manipulating Kat since day one and she has never questioned his behaviour, which is totally ridiculous of her. No matter what she did for him, he always wanted more, he was an eternal unsatisfied, using her to make his dreams come true, he wasn’t even ashamed to plan his actions…out loud.
I wish she had noticed he was playing her since the very beginning, and i wish she wasn't fooled by him all this time.

Kat’s introvert and strong personality was there but was revealed very late. Luckily, her big dreams  and her hidden ambition enabled her in the end to overcome her unhealthy relationship and move forward.
The characters were  actually very convincing. Everyone could get in Kat’s shoes, and in the meantime, visualize Michael’s character , his philandering and  his way of thinking. I hated him for being  so selfish and for being greedy about money and whatever material items Kat was providing him with.
Despite everything she’s done for him, he simply didn’t care. He was too selfish for that. And GOD knows how many material people we have to deal with everything day. .
Maria was certainely a very ambitious person but still didnt like her, because she showed how business industry is run in the real world. Everything is justified, when it comes to ratings, and profits, even manipulation and destroying people’s lives , peace and joy. It shows us implicitly how we’re manipulated nowadays, and how humanity is suffering for real in this capitalistic world.
As for the ending.....it is a happy one..somehow, but i won't spoil it for u....i'll let you guess !
But one thing is certain ...I LOVED IT. Give it a try.... you 'll  thank me later. Enjoy it^^
Can't wait to read the Author's next novel. @V.R. Street
P.s : I did  receive the Arc of "lucky"..but im voluntarily and  happily writing this review .

I was completely into this book. Lucky depicts what happens when a couple wins over $300 million in the lottery. Kat actually won the money but she is talked into putting her struggling actor husband, Michael on the ticket. Michael is a complete louse. I was frustrated as Kat kept getting sweet talked into blowing through the money because they signed on to a reality show and Maria is devious and Pushes Michael to spend large so the ratings will climb. There were a few surprises in the plot, but I just wanted to yell at Kat and Michael for spending like a sieve. There were a couple of good scenes when I cheered for Kat and her actions, but she was way too easy on her jerky husband. Lucky is a good read, but it's also a lesson in what not to do if you win the lottery. Thanks to NetGalley and Amazon Digital Services for the advance read in exchange for my review.

Wow this book was wonderful. Debut novel by V.R. Street allowed you to live out 2 fantasies, winning the lottery and being on reality tv. Kat and Michael Davidson hit big. Winning over 300mil playing lottery in New York city Kat and Michael have a new world opened up to them. Aspiring actor Michael is given the opportunity to star in his own reality show. Kat now has the time to dedicate to a novel she's dreamed of writing and starting the family they couldnt afford. As the story progresses you become aware that money really doesn't buy happiness. I don't want to give away any spoilers but I will say that Street did a wonderful job making you love and hate characters. I spent most of the book seeing red because of one character. I've never had a writer able to pull so much anger from me. If you are looking for an easy read with lots of surprises this is the book for you.

What would you do if you won the lottery? Save it, spend it all, somewhere in the middle?
Lucky follows Michael & Kat (husband & wife) as they win the jackpot.
Maria is a TV producer looking to impress her father by showing him she made the right choice by going into TV. Maria comes up with an idea to follow the winners and turn what they do into a reality show. The book follows what happens - do they make smart choices? Do they make moral choices? Do they make sound financial choices? The book follows them and the ending was quite a suprise.
Enjoy! This is V. R. Street's first novel - I cannot wait to see what she does next.

Money issues invariably take a toll on a marriage - but how can too much money be a problem? V.R. Street explores that very theme in Lucky, and throws in the pressure of a reality show as well. I though it was a very clever premise. I must admit that the characters seemed a bit two dimensional at times, almost unlikable. I appreciated the author's choice to show flashes of character growth , conscience, and backbone as the story progressed. My only issue was the abruptness of the ending. I was entertained and would read a V R Street novel in the future.

I tried to read this three times. Admittedly, romance is not my favorite genre, but I usually can get through and give it a 2 or 3. Not this one. All the characters were cardboard stereotypes. The main character was not someone I cared about because of that. Characters need to be well rounded to be real. That means a mix (not normally equal parts) of good and bad qualities. Unless it's an old fashioned fairy tale (and even then would be nice), I want real characters. I need real characters to care about them. Three attempts is enough.

I have watched my share of reality TV, and after reading this book, I will never look at the shows the same way. While the people are on the show of their own free will, what the producers do to drive the story line can really effect people, and their lives.
Some really predicable spots. Still a fun read.

Addictive rollercoaster that doesn’t let up til the end!
I was so furious and anxious (in a good way)

Excellent new writer who was able to really push the readers buttons

You’ve read the blurb. I don’t need to describe the story again.

Great read.

Very fun book.

Lucky is quite a page turner. You can’t help but put yourself in the shoes of the lottery winners throughout the story. The story keeps you going and is a very easy read. I loved it.

Be careful what you wish for...

After winning a huge lottery, Kat and Michael agree to be filmed for a reality tv show. The production crew is instrumental in manipulating Michael and Michael is instrumental in manipulating Kat into spending their windfall as quickly as it came.

I was asked by the author to read and review her debut novel. Have you ever fantasied about winning the lottery or the power ball? What would you do first? See, for me, I would pay any debt I owed and then build me a nice cottage somewhere that’s not completely in the middle of nowhere but not far away from where I want to go – and maybe my own bookstore. Some want these extravagant houses and cars and planes…I guess I’m just a simpleton.

We have Kat and Michael, kind of newly weds. Michael is an actor (apparently not a good one) and Kat works as a copywriter. Kat purchases a power ball ticket, for the hell of it, and to her surprise…she wins. The story goes into detail about winning the power ball and having your life being recorded with a camera. Michael, who is highly selfish, agrees right away to do this reality show called Lucky to show the lives of the power ball winners, thinking that it will give him a fan base and more rolls are offered (I would have the hardest time taking you seriously if you are only known for a reality show).

Kat doesn’t want the cameras or the big house or all things extravagant. Well, the big house, sure, because she really wants to have children. Her friends are supportive, but they don’t really care for Michael – for obvious reasons. Kat doesn’t like to tell people how they met and got married for fear of judgment. He’s from the UK and needed a green card to stay in the US – they met, dated, fell in love (well she did for some reason) and got married in a short amount of time.

So Kat reluctantly agrees to the reality show – which at first pins her in a very unflattering light and making her out to be a jealous and paranoid wife. Mostly with good reason because Michael is a cheating douche which you find out WAY early in the story. But it becomes kind of satisfying when he now has to try and figure out how to hide this from his wife with cameras around him – yeah sorry, I don’t feel bad for you at all.

While winning the power ball sounds awesome, I would HATE the press release and the attention and figuring out the whole tax break and all that jazz. The cameras would bug me too and even if it would somehow help his career – I would NEVER agree to a reality show. The producer of the show actually STARTS unnecessary things just to create more drama between the two – but don’t hate her right away like I did. Just wait and see.

The book was an easy read. It definitely goes into detail about taxes and how it would depending the state they live – I’m pretty sure it’s accurate. The story did end on a cliffhanger which I had a feeling that’s how it would end, but I am curious if there is going to be a second book. Kat does find some strength in her eventually, she just took a long time to get there.

When Michael called her ‘Kitty Kat’ I cringed every time. Bleh.

It was a good read, even if you are trying to not yell at the characters for being dumb. I liked how it was written. Each chapter has a different POV which includes Kat, Michael, and Maria (the producer). Why her point of view? It’s kind of important and while you want to hate her for trying so hard to expose so much for her career, don’t hate on her too bad.

Can I also add that I wasn’t really all that surprised when she kind of had some daddy issues?

The book is set to be published in October of this year. If you’re not into reading spooky stories in the spirit of Halloween, and want to find out what happens to this couple after winning the Power Ball, head over to Amazon now and Pre-Order.

Firstly I am really hoping there is going to be a sequel as I want to know what happened to Kat also if their is going to be another series to the show.
I felt so sorry for Kat throughout this book. Her husband Michael was really horrible (without spoiling what he gets up to). I loved the whole idea of this book and it didn't disappoint. It made me carry on reading late at night as I couldn't just finish a chapter and close the book. I kept wanting to go back to it and find out what Michael was up to.

This is a new Author to me, this story kept me turning pages. What a male Michael was I enjoyed that Kat was such a strong woman, Maria needed to learn how not to be the person she was, and Dan was just so in your face.I enjoyed reading this book. I wonder if there will be another book? I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
