This second box set in Mary Stone's throat-clutching Winter Black Series contains the fourth, fifth and sixth thrillers in the series: Winter's Rise, Winter's Ghost and Winter's Secret.
Winter's Rise: Thirteen years… Winter believed her little brother was murdered by the same lunatic that killed her parents. But the latest news about his whereabouts brings her out of her hiatus to face the co-workers she’s been avoiding. A body is found in a fifty-five-gallon drum. This is not your typical serial killer. And the body is just one of many. He’s a skilled surgeon and he's going after her friend, Autumn.
Winter's Ghost: On the night Winter Black and her fellow agents took down The Preacher, a mall massacre occurred. Today, one of the gunmen responsible for taking fifteen innocent lives that night is killed—with a well-placed bullet fired from nearly a mile away. Clearly a professional, zero evidence left, other than a note. When more suspected rapists and murderers turn up dead, the killer’s pattern becomes clear: they’re acting as judge, jury, and executioner for a series of cases that were brushed off by the cops. How could a person not cheer a little? Until the spotlight is shone on one of the FBI’s own.
Winter's Secret: The Preacher is dead, the case solved. But her best friend and partner, Noah Dalton’s, own past has come back to play. Noah’s father, Eric, has borrowed money from the Russian mob, but won’t give the FBI the whole story. even though his daughter and son-in-law have been kidnapped and the clock is ticking on their lives. What is he hiding? And who will pay the price? Can Winter and Noah sort out the pieces and put the puzzle together before the hostages’ expiration date? Or has it been too late from the beginning?

I am enjoying these stories, but I am getting a bored with the same observations over and over again... "As the glass and metal door swung open"; "The shadows moved along his throat as he swallowed" Okay, by now we know that all of the doors in the FBI office are "glass and metal"... who cares! I am still confused by the shadows moving along the throat comment that keeps coming up. Whatever it is supposed to mean, we have been beat up with this enough by now; come up with another way to get this meaning, whatever it is supposed to be, across.
Mary Stone is a wonderful writer and I am so glad I finally discovered her thrilling books! I have read books 1 through 9 and really enjoy the characters!! Winter Black is by far my favorite character! Presently I am reading the second “Autumn” book and enjoying it. Since I AM NOT A WRITER I’ll end with Thank you Mary Stone!!
Winter Black Series Box Set 2 (Winter Black Books #4 - 6) by Mary Stone. These books follow Special Agent Winter Black, whose life was shattered when her parents were murdered and her little brother was believed to have been killed by a serial killer known as The Preacher. Years later, she’s not only chasing down dangerous criminals but also searching for the truth about her brother - a thread that runs through the entire series. Here, you get the adrenaline rush of intense investigations - serial killers, twisted motives, and plenty of edge-of-your-seat moments - but also the personal side of Winter’s life. She’s tough and determined, but she’s also human, dealing with grief, trust issues, and complicated relationships. Mary Stone’s writing is easy to sink into. The chapters are short and snappy, which made it really hard to put the books down. Each installment has its own case to solve, but there’s always that bigger mystery in the background, so you’ll probably want to read them in consecutive order to get the full picture and impact. If you like shows like Criminal Minds or enjoy crime series with a mix of action as well as character depth, then this series is a solid choice. Engaging, bingeable, and packed with both thrills and heart. Happy Reading…
This series continues to capture the thrill and the terror of a career in the FBI!!!
You never let us down, do you Mary? The tension and action never slow down. Winter may be free from the chase for venange she sought for so many years but she still hasn't found her baby brother. Why can't she and the whole FBI find one young man? He's taunting her though she ed it out yet but others have. Why is Noah's father asking desperately for his help after so many years of disinterest? Why is the Russian Mafia interested in her and Noah? And will those two ever get beyond a couple of awkward kisses? Really, grow a pair of b**ls between you, why don't you!! This series really captures the thrill andl terror of a career in the FBI. The action never slows down. Highly recommended.
Winter has survived the closure of her parent's murder and kidnapping of her little brother. Throughout that case, she has grown as an agent as as a woman. While the finalization of what she thought was her defining moment had thrown her off course detailed her friendships and taken time away from her career, Winter returns in this trilogy to attempt the next phase of her life. Can she truly close that chapter, what does it mean for Agent Black? Why, after all, is she even in the FBI? And what will become of Autumn?
Just finished the 2nd boxed set of 3 Winter Black books. Books 4, 5, and 6. Page turners. All of them. Im onto the last set of 3 now. I highly recommend these books. The story line in each book is unique and interesting. They are easy reading novels (easy if you enjoy reading about killings etc.) about FBI agent Winter Black, whose parents were murdered when she was 13 and her little brother was kidnapped. The ongoing search for her brother has a thread continuing thru each book, with a new and different crime plot as the main focus in each book. Great series!
Lots of suspense, good, rich characters, most of whom are quite likeable. There are things which should have been caught by proofreaders which would suddenly bring me up jarringly. Otherwise, the only other negative I have is a personal pet peeve, the amount of profanity. I am able to replace & skip over, but the reading experience would be much more enjoyable if I didn't have to. All in all, I do enjoy the Winter stories, though. I look forward to the upcoming set.
Books 4&5 were slower, more focused on relationships v FBI and the Autumn character was too prominent for my liking. I also thought they were very repetitive with certain details. Like describing the gun constantly and repeating simple info that we already knew. Also, the author was obsessed with eyes flickering, glinting & snapping! Get a thesaurus already! Book 6 finished strong so I have hope things will pick up with the brother plot.
I purchased the first 3 book set red less than three chapters and purchased the second as they were on sale. Now I have finished all of them by spending every free moment engaged in the Winter Black books. Got to go just downloaded the next three books. I strongly recommend these if you enjoy suspense, a bit of romance and a fast paced enjoyable reD.
I could not put this down, these books have kept me from losing my mind in the middle of a pandemic. Winter is a strong character and I can't wait to start the next three!
This group follows Winter as she continues trying to locate her baby brother. I love how the characters all working together for the FBI are also friends and sometimes lovers.
Before you know it you are as concerned about the characters as you would be your own friends! Then you realize that the author has somehow convinced you that they are your friends. Well done Mary Stone. Have read the first six books in the series and am looking forward to the next three.
Thrilling! So enthralling you might find yourself forgetting to breath!!
As I continue to read my way through these Mary Stone’s series, I can’t find a place to stop! I keep thinking that I might not really continue when I finish this one. And then suddenly I finish and can hardly wait to see what is going to happen in the next one! Holy smokes, I am hooked!
I find myself skimming and skipping to the end to see if it's worth wading through another book. Nope, no resolutions, same cliffhangers and same story in each book. I had to give up after 6 books and learning that the final 3 had no resolution either. It was exciting and well written at first, but now I am just bored.
Was just starting book nine when I got a bargain on this set. Thank you very much. Now I go back to nine. While I enjoy you tales I stopped at a four star rating because I find technical questions. The most glaring was hospital bills from car wreck. I had to ask didn’t car insurance cover bills? ( just a small tell here)
Reading these books, I took an interest in each character. Most of the characters have a fondest for each other as friends, and look out for each other. The plot in each book is believable, and the read is easy. Not an abundance of characters that you can't keep track of. I found the first 6 books as enjoyable.
Ms. Stone certainly has a gift with leading from one book to the next in this series but the in-depth mind game stuff gets a little old. Don’t know if I’ll bite for the next set or not. Wait and see I guess. I do like some of the current culture thrown in and the suspense level of the books.
I really got deeply into this continuing story. It keeps growing and spreading Questions keep being asked, some answered, some still awaiting answers. Will Winter and Noah ever explore their relationship? Do they have a relationship? Noah and his biological family are introduced and present a problem for all. The plot moves and moves drawing the reader in.
Enthralled with Mary Stone's books!!! Have been reading each series one after the other and just want more!! The story lines are fantastic, the characters intriguing!! She leaves me craving the next book!! Wish I would have discovered her sooner!! Higher recommend!!
I don’t know how but these books just get better and better. I can’t put them down. There’s so much suspense and action. The twists and turns are great too. Love the characters!!
Wow wow wow is what I can say!!! What a fabulous series and you will be very happy to have this set. I couldn’t put these books down and was incredibly happy to have the next one already in my possession.
I have fallen in love with this series. I found it late so I've been able to buy the sets and keep going. Just one little thing; please use FBI instead of saying the entire name every time.
The story line was good, I just got bored with Winter and Noah's interest in each other. The repeating of the stories from other books is over kill past the first time reminding the reader.
I absolutely am addicted to Mary Stone's book series. They are one of my favorites crime series so far. They keep you on the edge of your seat. I hope she continues to write for a long time, since I intend to read everything else she writes!
Well just finished the second set and have to say they were great . Going to jump right into next set. Love these boxes an characters are wonderful and exciting. Great books.
Disturbing stories from the dark side with love relationships, friendships, and family turmoil thrown in. Love the characters and their relation to each other . I also like the different voices and points of view used throughout. A midnight page turner.
Series format is my new favorite way for stories to be told. Recurring characters, developing and growing and changing. These are how compelling characters come to life. Keep up the fun Mary Stone!
Fantastic characters, excellent plot with lots of twists and turns. The only thing it is not good for is me getting much sleep or things done because I don’t want to put it down.
I enjoy MaryStone’s characters. She spends a lot of time helping you get to know the ins and outs of her characters, even if they are all murderers or Badass law enforcement.
It's like watching a TV series I still want more so I keep reading. There Is always something left unanswered to make you pick up the next book. Each set centers on a different character in the previous set.
Series was okay, becoming a little Dear Abby/Ann landers style. Too much drama about everyone's personal lives, get on with the story!!! Stop killing all the good characters!!
