As Christmas draws near, Alyssa Byler dreams of a window display for the bakery where she works. When she decides to design and build a sugar cookie nativity scene, all she needs is the right cookie cutters—and handsome blacksmith Kyle Smoker is the one she asks for help. Using Kyle’s handmade cutters, Alyssa creates a striking display that brings more tourists to the bakery than she can handle. And when shoppers request handmade cookie cutters of their own, Kyle finds himself overwhelmed by the demand. As Christmas approaches, Alyssa realizes she’s been too caught up in work to focus on the true meaning of Christmas—and too distracted to explore the feelings she has for Kyle. Together, they put aside the holiday rush and spend their time celebrating the season that has brought them together.
Loaves of Love by Beth Wiseman
As the only girl in a family of eight, Katie Swartzentruber has been left in charge of her family’s bakery while her mother recuperates from surgery. At first, Katie doesn’t think tending to the bakery alone will be difficult. She’s worked alongside her mother for years. But Christmas is coming, and with the holiday comes a flood of patrons, both regulars and tourists. When Katie becomes overwhelmed with the orders she is receiving, she is tempted to move her Old Order family into the modern world by purchasing propane ovens to help with the workload. She finds help from an unexpected source—childhood friend Henry Hershberger, who has harbored a secret crush on Katie for years. He’s been afraid to tell her how he feels, but he’s sure that this Christmas is his moment. As the demands of the bakery only get more intense, both Katie and Henry have to decide what really matters . . . and find the courage within themselves to go after it.
Melting Hearts by Kathleen Fuller
Mattie Shetler is an expert baker, so when her aunt Carolyn begs for help during the busy Christmas rush, Mattie eagerly packs her bags and heads to Birch Creek. What she doesn’t know is that her uncle has also asked for help with the bakery’s new expansion, and he’s asked none other than Peter Kaufman, Mattie’s sworn enemy. As the two work side by side, though, Mattie discovers not all is as it seems. With Christmas just around the corner, Mattie and Peter open their hearts for the greatest gifts of the season: forgiveness and maybe even love.
Cakes and Kisses by Kelly Irvin
Martha Ropp works hard at her family’s bakery, making cakes and pies in preparation not only for Christmas but the many community weddings, including her sister’s. To help during this busy season, Martha’s mother hires Ambrose Hershberger to make deliveries. Martha remembers Ambrose as a gentle giant from her school days, but soon discovers that still waters run deep. The more they work together, the more they want to spend time together outside of the bakery, but both Martha and Ambrose are too timid to make the first move. That’s when the town matchmakers step in.

I haven't even started any Fall baking yet let alone Christmas baking but after reading these four baking filled stories I am encouraged to start doing some. Muffins, cookies, cinnamon buns with the wind howling outside and the leaves kicking up what could be a better way to spend the day? Baking and romance with faith filled stories that are very encouraging the authors in this novella write four stories I will read time and again just for the good feeling they give me. I look forward to reading about these well developed characters in other books the authors write.
Expected publication: October 1st 2019 by Zondervan. I was given a complimentary copy of this book. Thank you. All opinions expressed are my own.
What a sweet group of stories! From cookies to Christmas cheer to finding love and more, each story is full of friendship, love and Christmas joy. I enjoyed reading these stories. Each author has a unique way of writing and sharing. I received a complimentary copy of this book. No review was required.
This holiday season, join four authors in Amish-set stories featuring heartwarming romance and delicious baked treats.
-In Amy Clipston’s Cookies and Cheer, Alyssa Byler learns an important lesson about making time for the people she loves. -In Beth Wiseman’s Loaves of Love, Katie Swartzentruber and Henry Hershberger confront feelings they have harbored for years amidst the bakery’s busiest season. -In Kathleen Fuller’s Melting Hearts, Peter Kaufman is the last person Maddie Shetler expected (or wanted) to see in Birch Creek, but working together allows her the opportunity to understand the truth behind her animosity. -In Kelly Irvin’s Cakes and Kisses, Ambrose Hershberger does not expect Martha Ropp to give him a chance, but love surprises them both anyway.
Reading An Amish Christmas Bakery, I enjoyed all but Clipston’s novella. Cookies and Cheer tried too hard to convey its specific message that its characterizations and emotion fell a little flat. But after that rocky start, the next novellas wrapped me in the warmth of their romance, community, and holiday spirit. I don’t read Amish fiction often nowadays, but this collection proved just as fun and uplifting as I expected. For any lovers of Amish fiction (or just readers in need of a few quick Christmas stories), take a trip to An Amish Christmas Bakery.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and the opportunity to provide an honest review. I was not required to write a positive review, and all the opinions I have expressed are my own.
An Amish Christmas Bakery By: Amy Clipston, Beth Wiseman, Kathleen Fuller, and Kelly Irvin What a charming Christmas collection of four Novella by four different authors. All four of these novellas were well written and well developed. This collection is about cookies, meaning of Christmas, love, christian fiction, and forgiveness. I really enjoyed this collection of wonderful novellas. I was given a complimentary copy of this book by NetGalley and the Publisher, but as not told that I had to give a positive review. All opinions are my own.
I really enjoyed these sweet stories. Each author has such a unique way of writing their stories. I would love to read more from each of these stories and authors. This is the perfect book to get you in the mood for the holiday season!
I was given a complimentary copy of this ebook from the author, but was not required to write a review. The thoughts and comments are my own.
An Amish Christmas Bakery by Amy Clipston, Beth Wiseman, Kelly Irvin and Kathleen Fuller contains four Amish Christmas stories. Cookies and Cheer by Amy Clipston takes us to Ronks Bakery in November where Alyssa Byler comes up with the idea to do a sugar cookie nativity scene for their front window. She will need special cookie cutters made and approaches Kyle Smoker, a metalworker, to make them. Alyssa creates a lovely display that draws customers into the shop and, after an article appears in the local paper, the bakery is swamped with customers. Alyssa’s is soon spending all her time at the bakery to keep up with the demand and she is missing out on family traditions as well as spending time with her new boyfriend. Will Alyssa realize what a special time of year it is and what she could lose in time?
Loaves of Love by Beth Wiseman takes us to Orleans, Indiana where Katie Swartzentruber has been left in charge of the family bakery while her mother recovers from surgery. Katie must keep up with the normal daily baking as well as the holiday orders using their two wood stoves plus handle the customers. When her current beau, David offers her his families old propane oven, Katie believes it is the answer to her problem. Henry Hershberger has been Katie’s friend since they were kids. She waited for years for him to ask her out before recently moving on. Henry is trying to work up the nerve to ask Katie out, but when he sees her with David, he realizes he may have missed his chance. But in the season of miracles, anything can happen.
Melting Hearts by Kathleen Fuller returns us to Birch Creek. Mattie Shetler came to help at Yoder’s Bakery after receiving a call from her Uncle Atlee stating that his wife, Carolyn needed assistance. Mattie is enjoying her time with them until Peter Kaufman arrives to help with the bakery addition. Mattie’s best friend, Lizzy was dating Peter until she came crying to Mattie about his horrible treatment. Mattie attempts to ignore Peter but working plus living in the same house puts them in close quarters. She observes Peter’s kindness and polite manners which has her wondering if she came to wrong conclusions about him. With Christmas rapidly approaching, Mattie sets out to learn the truth. Is there a chance for forgiveness and perhaps love this holiday season?
Cakes and Kisses by Kelly Irvin takes readers to Jamesport, Missouri. Martha Ropp works with her sister, Elsie managing the family bakery since their mother passed away. Martha observes teenagers picking on Ambrose Hershberger and she goes to rescue him. Ambrose is a kind, gentle man who works for Burke at the Purple Martin Café and takes care of his blind aunt. When Martha learns that Ambrose cannot read, she sets out to teach him. They become good friends and Martha begins to feel more for Ambrose. Ambrose had resigned himself to a future without a wife or family because of his learning challenges. After spending time with Martha, Ambrose begins to dream of a future with her. However, Ambrose is afraid that Martha will rebuff him, and he will lose his friend.
An Amish Christmas Bakery by Amy Clipston, Beth Wiseman, Kelly Irvin and Kathleen Fuller contains four Amish Christmas stories filed with joy, hope, faith, and love. I thought they were all well-written with steady pacing and relatable characters. I enjoyed reading each of the four tales. While the stories are cohesive (bakery theme), each novella has the authors distinctive writing voice. Cookies and Cheer was such a sweet story with the sugar cookie nativity scene (sounds lovely). I liked the characters and the moral of the story (the true meaning of Christmas). It has Amy Clipston’s engaging writing which made Cookies and Cheer a pleasure to read. Each novella has a life lesson, Christmas cheer and romance. In Melting Hearts, we see the importance of forgiveness. I could relate to Martha Ropp in Cakes and Kisses with her severe migraines (poor thing). My favorite phrases came from Cakes and Kisses. It is “We are all the same in God’s eyes.” Wouldn’t the world be a different place if everyone viewed individual’s in this manner! Each of these stories will have you smiling and sometimes laughing. An Amish Christmas Bakery contains four heartwarming novellas with mouthwatering baked goods, the true meaning of Christmas, good friends, and tender romance.
Alyssa Byler wants to build a sugar cookie nativity scene for her bakery’s Christmas window display—all she needs is the right cookie cutters. She turns to handsome blacksmith Kyle Smoker. Using Kyle’s handmade cutters, Alyssa created a striking display that brings more customers than she can handle. She soon realizes she’s been too busy to focus on the true meaning of Christmas—and too distracted to explore her feelings for Kyle. Together, they put aside the holiday rush to celebrate the season that brought them together.
My thoughts: Amy Clipston is known for her super-sweet bakery stories and this one fits right into her brand. Alyssa is a hard worker but she's so busy she forgets the important things about Christmas, such as family and friends. There is a weak faith message, a very sweet young love romance, and a good lesson for everyone during this busy hustle and bustle time of the year.
Loaves of Love by Beth Wiseman
Katie Swartzentruber has been left in charge of her family’s bakery, but she soon finds herself overwhelmed with orders during the holiday season. She is tempted to move her Old Order family into the modern world by using propane ovens. Meanwhile, her childhood friend Henry Hershberger is trying to find the courage to tell Katie that he’s harbored a secret crush on Katie for years. As the demands at the bakery intensify, both Katie and Henry must find the courage to go after what’s important.
My thoughts: Beth Wiseman pens a love pentagon. Five individuals. To quote a country song: Who's seeing who, who's cheating who, who don't even care anymore. Wiseman is a hit or miss author for me but I enjoyed this story and actually like and care for the characters. Especially Clara. This was a really good novella. I was glad for Katie's final decision.
Melting Hearts by Kathleen Fuller
When her aunt Carolyn begs for help during the busy Christmas rush, Mattie Shetler eagerly packs her bags and heads to Birch Creek. She doesn’t know her uncle has also asked for help with the bakery’s new expansion from Peter Kaufman, Mattie’s sworn enemy. As the two work together, Mattie discovers not all is as it seems. With Christmas just around the corner, Mattie and Peter open their hearts for the greatest gifts of the season: forgiveness and maybe even love. My thoughts about Melting Hearts by Kathleen Fuller; Another hit or miss author, Fuller tells rather than shows resulting in this read feeling disconnected with the characters. I also disliked how hateful Mattie & Peter were to each other. The story got a lot more interesting when they declared a truce and Mattie started to discover the truth.
Cakes and Kisses by Kelly Irvin
Martha Ropp works hard at her family’s bakery, making cakes and pies for community celebrations. To help during the busy Christmas season, Martha’s mother hires Ambrose Hershberger to make deliveries. Martha remembers Ambrose as a gentle giant from her school days. But the more they work together, the more they want to spend time together outside of the bakery. When both are too timid to make the first move, the town matchmakers step in.
My thoughts: Set in Jamesport Missouri I kept expecting to run into characters written by two other authors: Laura V Hilton and Charlotte Hubbard. Of course, I didn't. :) I got the initial impression Ambrose is special needs... and he is but high-functioning, A very special story that rose through the ranks to becoming my favorite in this collection. Sweet!
Overall thoughts: A good read by four popular Amish authors -- this would make a good gift for the Amish reader on your list -- or for yourself. Good for any time of the year.
I enjoyed all four of these sweet Christmas novellas! Each one kept my interest and all four novellas had good storylines that were enjoyable to read during this holiday season.
These four stories are not connected to each other. Some of the novellas are set in locations where other books by those authors are set, however, it is not necessary to have read any of the other stories to enjoys these novellas. They all stand on their own nicely.
For fans of Amish fiction, who are looking for enjoyable and unique Christmas stories, I definitely recommend this collection.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Alyssa Byler dreaming of the next holiday window display for her work. As she draws out her idea for the window display and then she gets permission to create it. She needs to ask someone to make the cookie cutters for her. As Alyssa Byler get more ideas. Will they be all good. She asks Kyle Smoker to make the Cookie Cutters will happen when there is more demand?
Alyssa Byler seems to get pulled into the hustle and bustle and forget the most important thing about her lifestyle. As the season approves and gets busier. Everyone is trying to remind her of what import at this time when Christmas is coming.
Will she learn it and ask to be forgiven. Kyle and Alyssa's relationship grows. Will they make it through the rough patch. Celebrate the coming to Christ as it meant to be. Will Alyssa ask the one person to help give her a solution for her to be with her family and Kyle and help her friend Denise?
Loaves of Love by Beth Wiseman:
What would you do if you were left in charge of the bakery during the holiday season? Well, Katie is and she seems to be seeing someone. Though we learn that she is the only girl in a family of eight. So she got to help once her mother is put on bed rest after surgery.
Henry has finally has been able to feel up to ask Katie out on a date. Will, he finally asks her or will it be too late? Henry seems to have some issues with his feelings. He is a family friend of Katie and her family.
There seems to be a woman that comes into the bakery and asks Katie if she can get her order and have it ready by Friday. As she was about the work on the order and miss lunch when David comes in take Katie out to dinner. What will she do?
It seems things get more interesting as the story goes on. What happens between Katie and David? What will happen between Claire and Henry? Katie's brother Jonas stops by as well. What will happen when Katie takes the new oven gift from David?
The woman seems to have ordered twelve loaves of bread. What she does with them. You will be surprised. Katie seems to want her wood ovens after trying it and some mishaps. This woman seems to give Katie a loaf of bread.
The woman talks about the number of twelve. There seem to be quite a few things in the bible the number twelve. She just says the lord was to give it to her and that she calls the bread “Loaves of Love” and then leaves the bakery. You will not believe how it ends when Katie sees another loaf of bread on the counter?
Melting Hearts by Kathleen Fuller:
Have you ever thought you were friends with someone and it turns out they are not your friend? Well, It seems this is the case with Mattie. Does Mattie think she would be like her best friend? Though maybe she should decide for herself.
Mattie is asked to come to help her aunt when she calls her. Though she after a few weeks. She finds out that Peter is coming. Though her aunt and uncle doe not know she strongly dislikes him. Though she believes Peter is horrible.
Peter arrives and things get more interesting between Mattie and Peter. Does Mattie know her friend is using her? Mattie seems to believe that Peter is someone that bad and not to be trusted? But maybe he's a nice guy but can not admit it. Mattie seems to tear between her beliefs and her feelings.
Peter comes to help out with an additional job that Atlee as offered him. Peter seems to be around Mattie. You will be surprised at how this ends. Who will trust who? Mattie's aunt Caroline and her Uncle Atlee get some unexpected news. They are shocked by the news. I do not want to give away the ending to either of the couples mentioned. Is Lizzy more mean and curl and why?
Cakes and Kisses by Kelly Irvin: How would you feel if you were picked on when doing your job? It boys that do it and find out they do it on purpose. Well, Ambrose gets treated differently. Most everyone likes him. You will be surprised to learn about him.
Martha seems to be at a loss when she finds out her mother passes away. Leaving her and her sister Elsie and her younger siblings to care for. Martha seems to have a bit hard time with the loss of her mother. But will she find love?
Ambrose and Martha seem like they like each other. What will happen when they want to spend more time together? Martha wants to help Ambrose learn to read. Will happen. Burke and Catrina seem to want to help her and Ambrose out as well.
An Amish Christmas Bakery will cause readers to want to bake and dig out some old favorite recipes. Each novella is centered a round a bakery and a chance of finding love. The characters are true to life with their flaws and strengths. Each author penned their novella in their own unique style.
Amy Clipston’s creativity with Cookies and Cheer was a delightful read with Alyssa Byler’s brilliant creation of a nativity from sugar cookies. Seeking assistance from Kyle Smoker, the local blacksmith, brought the perfect result for each cookie cutter needed. But the bakery was overwhelmed with so many orders for the nativity cookies caused undue stress and strain. Will Alyssa discover where she failed in putting God and family first before Christmas Day?
Loaves of Love by Beth Wiseman showed Katie Swartzentruber struggling with all the holiday baking. David offered Katie a propane stove so she could keep up, but Katie discovered flaws with the end results. Henry was a life saver in many ways to Katie even though their past relationship had been rocky. Could Christmas be any more perfect when there’s an unexpected meeting at the bakery?
Kathleen Fuller brought Mattie Shetler and Peter Kaufman to Birch Creek in her tale of Melting Hearts. Even though Mattie had been there to help her aunt in the bakery, she was more than a little surprised when her uncle asked Peter to come to assist him with an addition. Will they be able to find forgiveness and discover a new admiration for one another by Christmas?
Cakes and Kisses by Kelly Irvin was a pleasure to read as Mattie Ropp and Ambrose Hershberger worked together in the bakery. Ambrose lacked some basic abilities but his heart was huge and his memory was remarkable. Mattie desire to teach Ambrose to read with Ambrose even helping with baking duties grew their relationship to more than employee/employer. Who’s going to be the one to speak first on their feelings with their lives so different?
I received a complimentary ARC copy of this book from the publisher and Celebrate Lit. I was under no obligation to write a positive review but have shared my own opinion.
Aww, this was such a cute short story that had my heart pounding. I loved Kyle and Alyssa. They were really cute and I loved seeing their relationship blossom throughout this story. This Christmas story also reminds us of the importance of remembering the true meaning of Christmas. Though the holiday season may get busy we must remember Christ’s birth and family during this crazy holiday season.
Loaves of Love – 4 stars
This was a sweet story too. I didn’t like it as much as the first but it still was super sweet. I loved Katie, Clara, and Henry but David made my blood boil and is the reason why I probably did not enjoy this story as much. I wanted to punch him quite a few times. However I did really enjoy the ending of this cute story!
Melting Hearts – 5 stars
Awww, this story was too cute!! I loved everything about it! I knew that this one was going to be fantastic because enemy to lovers is my favorite romance trope and this one was beautifully written. I loved Mattie and Peter so much. They are perfect for each other and we’re perfect for this story. I loved the theme of forgiveness that was woven throughout this whole story. I honestly could have read a whole book based on this story, I enjoyed it so much!
Cakes and Kisses – 3.5 stars
Although this wasn’t my favorite, this story was so sweet and so beautiful. As an older sister to someone who has mental disabilities, this book really touched my heart. Ambrose was a sweetheart and Martha honestly is the best thing he could ever have. Though I didn’t really connect with the story all that well, I still enjoyed watching their romance bloom. The story I thought could have been written a bit better but I still enjoyed it!
*FTC: I received this book from the publisher through Celebrate Lit and Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion. All thoughts are my own. I was not required to write a positive review.*
Overall a cute anthology of Amish Christmas stories. I liked Amy Clipston’s story the best, but the others were really sweet too.
Cookies and Cheer (Amy Clipston) - 4 stars
My favorite of the collection. It was just adorable and I loved the relationship between Alyssa and Kyle. The story was just as cute as the title! Also, Alyssa’s window display was absolutely gorgeous in my mind.
Loaves of Love (Beth Wiseman) - 3 stars
It was cute, but I’m not a fan of stories that create conflict due to a lack of communication. Neither Katie nor Henry were upfront and honest with each other right away. The ending was really sweet though.
Melting Hearts (Kathleen Fuller) - 4 stars
I love stories where the main couple don’t like each other at first. Mattie grew a lot in the story and I really liked the ending and that she was able to stand up to Lizzy (who was awful). This is connecting to a story from another novella collection I read (What Love Built from An Amish Homecoming) so it was nice to see those characters again.
Cakes and Kisses (Kelly Irvin) - 2 stars
This one had very little to do with Christmas (the majority of the story takes place in spring and summer) so I was a little bummed by that. I liked the portrayal of Ambrose and the author’s note at the end was really sweet, but it just wasn’t Christmassy enough for me. The Christmas part seemed tacked on at the end. This also seems like it’s connected to something else but if so, I have not read that series/story. Also this was the saddest of the four, with Martha dealing with grief and losing a family member around the holidays.

This book contains four beautifully written stories by well known writers of Amish fiction, Amy Clipston, Beth Wiseman, Kathleen Fuller and Kelly Irvin. Each story centers around bakeries during the busy Christmas season. Hardships are realized when family members are sick or healing from surgery and the burden of keeping up with all the orders falls on one or two. Being too busy and stressed to stop and enjoy the true meaning of Christmas becomes an issue. The characters in each story were well written and fun to get to know, but my favorites were Martha and Ambrose in Cakes and Kisses. They warmed my heart and made me pull for them to become a couple. A few happy tears were shed. If you like to read sweet romances and get in the spirit of the season you will love these. Grab a sugar cookie or two and a hot cup of coffee or cocoa and relax as you read these heart warming stories. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher through Celebrate Lit but was not required to write a review positive or otherwise.
This book contains four different novellas written by four different authors. Of the four novellas, my favorite is Loaves of Love by Beth Wiseman. I would definitely give that story a 4-star rating, but the other 3 stories would get three stars. They are all good Christian literature, though. They all contain good lessons and Bible quotes to live by. I plan to look at Beth Wiseman's website to see what other books she has written.
What a wonderful book by four superb Amish fiction authors. Each story was a delight and I was sorry when each one ended wanting more. All stories were incredibly heartwarming, charming, beautifully written, with delightful characters, themes and plots. Each of the authors painted stunning scenery with their words. I found myself in all the different kitchens, homes, barns and making friends with each and every character of each and every story. I am so glad I read this now and that I didn't think it was too early for Christmas books. I can see the decorations, the snow, the gifts, the trees the lights. I can see folks bundled up for the cold with snowflakes falling and all the stores of each of the places welcoming with their lights and so cozy and warm inside with the friendliness of the characters and the charm of the season and writing. Fans of Amish fiction please don't miss out on this book. I am so amazed it took me so long to find it. Those of you not familiar with the genre, please give this book a try. It is based in different Amish communities in different states and will give you an outstanding view of Amish life and the fascination that keeps us fans wanting to read more and more. Inspiring, with lessons to learn about love, hope, forgiveness and so much more these four stories are absolutely delightful and charming in so many ways.
Sorry I'm so late in sending this one out. I don't really have a favorite story because I loved each and every one of these stories and the authors who created them are some of my top favorite!! Each one has it's own personal charm just like the ladies that wrote them! This book will sure make you drool and I will just honestly say when it comes to sugar cookie dough I doubt anyone will be getting those because I will have eaten all the dough! I know it sounds horrible but I'm going to blame that one on my mom cause she started the whole thing! But back to the book I really wanted to read one story a day but it didn't happen. I ended devouring the whole book and craving for some dough lol!! Reading these precious stories are getting me into the Christmas spirit. I know what I'll be making come holiday baking time! Im considering giving this book to my neighbor as a gift. She enjoys them so. I recommend this book as a great gift at Christmas or anytime of the year! My thanks to Kathleen Fuller for the gift of this book I won in a drawing. No compensations were received and all opinions are my own!
These ladies have created beautiful stories! These ladies are truly talented in their writing styles and create gripping stories filled with hope, love, and Christmas fun!
I love all these stories but one of my favorites was Amy Clipston’s Cookies and Cheer. I love the way she creates her characters, and the vivid details she uses to set her story line is awesome! From the start of her story we are taken to the heart of Christmas and a captivating novella that will bring you peace, joy, and ultimately, a wonderful message from God. Amy’s story is definitely worthy of 4 stars!
These collection of Holiday reads is perfect for gift giving this Holiday season. If you know someone who has never enjoyed an Amish story before, then this would be the perfect place to start. They will get their fill of Christmas cheer, yummy baking, and characters that come to life. Well done to all the ladies and I can’t wait for another one just like this!
*I received a complimentary copy of this book from Publisher and was under no obligation to post a review, positive or negative.*
The four stories in this new book are written by four different authors and even though they are all different, they are all centered around Amish bakeries and they all have the common themes of love, friendship, and the importance of family. I appreciate that there are discussion questions at the end of each novella and I liked that I could choose to read one story at a time, as my schedule allowed. I will admit, however, that I found myself wanting to keep reading because all of them are so good!
An Amish Christmas Bakery is a wonderful collection of inspirational Christmas stories and it will put you in the holiday spirit long before the days actually come. These four novellas stress the need for hope and joy and they all share the true reason for celebrating the season known as Christmas!
I received a complimentary copy of this book but I wasn't required to write a positive review. These are my honest thoughts.
These four novellas, as the title implies, all have to do with baking. Sometimes overwhelmed with the demands of the season and their jobs, it was interesting to read about how these Amish women coped . . . and how they didn’t! There were some life lessons to be learned along the way, that’s for sure and certain. All these authors have written enjoyable tales of inspiration, with just the right touch of romance thrown in. There were some problems to solve, but that just made the endings sweeter.
There's something about Amish novella collections at Christmas that make me all warm and cozy inside. I actually start craving them in September and by the time the snow flies I'm eager to curl up with the kind of classic, timeless, heartwarming stories that you'll find in this collection. I mean, you can't go wrong with this line-up of all-star Amish Fiction authors, right? And do they ever deliver!
Love the common thread of the bakery setting (is there anything more Christmas-y than a bakeshop?) And I'm amazed at how each author uses her unique voice to create four distinctive stories. There's humour, angst, and the simple pleasure of enjoying the true meaning of Christmas...and romance...through the eyes of these delightful characters.
Alyssa learns a lesson of working too much can have a influence on friends and family. She works at a bakery that gets very busy during Christmas time. Alyssa just wanted to help out her friend that owns the bakery. What happens when she works so much?
Loaves of Love by Beth Wiseman
Another lesson learned in this book. Katie is offered a propane stove to cook with at her bakery. She finds out it just is not the same as the wood stove. Then there is Henry who wants to ask her out but she is dating David. I love Henry, he is so patient and caring while waiting for Katie to make up her mind.
Melting Hearts by Kathleen Fuller
Mattie comes to help Carolyn at her shop. Peter is in town and Mattie thinks she knows his reputation. He used to date her friend. But things are not always as they seem.
Cakes and Kisses by Kelly Irvin
This is such a sweet story. I loved Ambrose and how he cared for others. His relationship with the animals, so special.
I received an advanced copy of the book from the publisher through Celebrate Lit. This book review is my own opinion.
I read this because my grandma can't. I'm not particularly a fan of Amish fiction and therefore I'm not the person to rate this book. There was a lot of Pennsylvania Dutch, and a lot of baking, and interpersonal drama among the Amish.
I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated and all opinions are 100 percent mine.
This collection contains four short Christmas stories written by four authors, and all of them deal with different characters in an Amish community and somewhat centered on an Amish bakery. You will find clean stories with Amish elements. For those not familiar with the Amish culture, there is a glossary at the beginning. Each of these stories has discussion questions at the end of each story and a word from the author. There is nothing offensive in any of these stories. God is mentioned, but I have read Amish stories with more emphasis on that element. There's love, family, Christmas traditions, Amish culture, etc. Collectively, I give these a 3.5 rating. They are fine for what they are, but only just a little above average, in my opinion.
These stories are fine for a quick Christmas read, but my issue is that the characters and story never really get to be developed beyond an average or slightly above average level. I don't feel I connected with the stories. These stories will be fine for those who enjoy short, cozy Christmas stories, but that is not my preference. I would have preferred if each of these had been developed into their own novel or novella. However, I have no expressly negative comments or concerns about these stories.
A "sweet" collection of stories by four authors. I love any story, book or movie about the Amish. I received this to review and was immediately immersed in the Christmas season within the Amish community. I was in the mood for Christmas with 9 inches of snow on the ground and the fireplace making it nice and cozy inside. I grabbed my cup of tea to enjoy and enjoyed I did.
The stories were all based in bakeries as the title indicates. Who could resist reading about pies, cookies and cakes? I was remembering my visits to Amish bakeries in Shipshewana. I have never gone at Christmas but this book made me realize I am missing out.
I enjoyed all the stories. Each one was a Christmas gift to read. Cookies and Cheer reminds us to not let the true meaning of Christmas be lost in the Christmas madness. Loaves of Love tells us to remember who you are and don't get caught up or trapped by the Christmas rush. Melting Hearts expresses the true gift of Christmas is love and forgiveness. Cakes and Kisses clarifies that GOD makes no mistakes.
Psalm 139:13-16
For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.

About the Book
Book: An Amish Christmas Bakery
Author: Various Authors
Genre: Amish Fiction, Romance
Release Date: October 2, 2019
From bestselling authors in the Amish genre come four delicious novellas perfect for celebrating love, joy, and the holiday season.
Cookies and Cheer by Amy Clipston As Christmas draws near, Alyssa Byler dreams of a window display for the bakery where she works. When she decides to design and build a sugar cookie nativity scene, all she needs is the right cookie cutters-and handsome blacksmith Kyle Smoker is the one she asks for help. Using Kyle’s handmade cutters, Alyssa creates a striking display that brings more tourists to the bakery than she can handle. And when shoppers request handmade cookie cutters of their own, Kyle finds himself overwhelmed by the demand. As Christmas approaches, Alyssa realizes she’s been too caught up in work to focus on the true meaning of Christmas-and too distracted to explore the feelings she has for Kyle. Together, they put aside the holiday rush and spend their time celebrating the season that has brought them together.
Loaves of Love by Beth Wiseman As the only girl in a family of eight, Katie Swartzentruber has been left in charge of her family’s bakery while her mother recuperates from surgery. She finds help from an unexpected source-childhood friend Henry Hershberger, who has harbored a secret crush on Katie for years. He’s been afraid to tell her how he feels, but he’s sure that this Christmas is his moment. As the demands of the bakery only get more intense, both Katie and Henry have to decide what really matters . . . and find the courage within themselves to go after it.
Melting Hearts by Kathleen Fuller Mattie Shetler is an expert baker, so when her aunt Carolyn begs for help during the busy Christmas rush, Mattie eagerly packs her bags and heads to Birch Creek.
Cakes and Kisses by Kelly Irvin Martha Ropp works hard at her family’s bakery, making cakes and pies in preparation not only for Christmas but the many community weddings, including her sister’s.

This is a sweet book that has four different stories surrounding a bakery at Christmas time in the Amish communities. It is very heartfelt with all of charm of Christmas books and bakery difficulties during the seasonal purchasing time. A very feel good book.
4 stars: Cookies and Cheer Loaves of Love 2 stars: Melting Hearts Cakes and Kisses
Each story takes place between Thanksgiving and Christmas and involves a bakery. There is a lot of baked goods in these stories, and each one sounds delicious. Two stories were enjoyable. The characters were likeable, and their stories were sweet and interesting. The other two stories weren't fun to read. Some of the characters were unlikeable, and I didn't like what happened in the stories. Each story has a happy ending.
