Love in the Darkness

Rate this book
A week in the dark has them seeing everything in a new light.
Kayla:
Accepting help from anyone makes my skin crawl.
With my eyes bandaged for a week, I have no choice.
When a huge tough guy shows up instead of my usual nurse, I don’t know how to act.
But he cares for me so sweetly, I could learn to get used to it.
Every time he touches me, I feel utterly cherished. Treasured.
He’s strong, thoughtful, and achingly seductive.
I can’t wait to see his face.
To hopefully be his girlfriend instead of his patient.

Liam:
Although I can’t see her eyes, I fall for Kayla’s lovely soul.
Her clever, delicate way of viewing the world. (So to speak.)
I’d do anything to keep her safe and healthy.
And even more to touch her silky skin.
Kiss those perfect lips.
Even though I know once she looks at me, she’ll want to run.
All I can do is care for her as long and as much as she’ll let me.

This odd, quiet shy girl / alpha male romance is a standalone novel.

Second read.

Jeez, I don't even know what I liked about this book back in 2020. This was kinda horrible.

The heroine giggling and LOLing at second grade level humour; the hero all romantic and sugar sweet after admitting to himself how he used to regret all the previous women he dated because they felt basic compared to this perfect one in front of him.

It was so over the top, ridiculous, and over descriptive, I couldn't even bring myself to finishing this second time around.

I liked the beginning. Or the first two thirds maybe. It was adorable, hot, had some interesting ideas about art and good dialogue. Plus the chemistry between the charaters?! The chemistry was well written.

“My angle is that art is often used to display the subconscious mind. So as art has changed through the ages, it loosely mirrors the underlying thoughts of humanity at the time. Sometimes it’s even specific from country to country, or city to city. People paint their thoughts, sometimes unconsciously.”

But then something happened at the last part. A couple of artificial conflicts were thrown in, the dialogs became so sugar-coated... The last three chapters and two epilogues were kind of unnecessary, it would've been much better without.

-no cheating
-no ow/om drama whatsoever
-virgin heroine/ no details about the hero but he definitely was not portrayed as a manwhore
-epilogues 4 months and 3 years out

Great story. Liam and Kayla are put together due to medical reasons and with the help of each other, they are able to overcome their personal demons. Loved the chemistry and attraction that they had for each other. Never disappointed when I pick up this author’s work.

I loved this story. I want to keep Liam. He can be my new book boyfriend! This story has a lot of feels. It also made you think about perception and how we judge people without getting to know them first.

Kayla is very independent and loathes accepting help from anyone. After having eye surgery and being blind for a week, she has to give in and get help. A large man shows up one day instead of her usual nurse, she is nervous at first. But there is something about him that makes her feel safe and cared for. Kayla begins to think that she could get used to how he cares for her, touches her and makes her feel important. She would like to have more and can't wait until she can see his face.

Liam meets Kayla when her nurse asks him to cover for her. As soon as he meets her he feels a connection and wants to take care of her. She is sweet, caring and so clever. Liam knows that he would do anything to help her be happy and healthy. He wants more, but he knows that as soon as she can see him, it will all be over. Until then, he is going to take care of her as much as she will let him.

The way that Liam and Kayla fall in love is so sweet. It made me sad that Liam felt that his looks would scare Kayla off. Liam's reaction to Kayla's reaction to seeing his face for the first time was kind of funny. I loved their happy ever after. I recommend reading this book.

New author for me. I liked that this was different than my normal reads. The first half of the book was like 5 stars for me but the second half was closer to a 3.

There were seriously 3 characters in this book and the mention of or short introductions of maybe 4 background characters but the main couple is never together with any of the background characters. I enjoyed their relationship but would have liked some story where they’re interacting as a couple with other people. His issue with his “difference” was a pretty big part of the storyline along with his fear that it would negatively impact her life yet they never address it at all. The author mentions that he picks her up from school, they shop together, they go on walks together but none of those moments are included in the actual story and you never sees how they deal with how he perceives what everyone sees when they meet him. I would have rather had this be a part of the book rather than them figuring out how to balance together time and her need for alone time; which felt like a contrived storyline just to introduce a conflict. That being said, I enjoyed the characters. I loved how sweet and kind the H was along with him being big, muscled and tattooed. I liked that she was so open to him and didn’t see his difference as bad. I loved how she showed how she felt about him at the end of the story. It pulled my heartstrings. It was a sweet read and I will check out other work by this author.

A sweet enjoyable story of one shy girl and a alpha male that help one another to heal and find love. The story keeps you interested to see Kayla and Liam get their happy ending. Kayla needs to get eye surgery and she will need to depend on someone which she doesn't like. She is paired up with Gwen and when she is hurt she asks her brother Liam to fill in. These characters are likable and you feeling right along with them. Their chemistry is sizzling. I enjoyed this book

This book did not work for me. I wanted to like it so much more than I did. I didn’t understand the H’s insecurity. He had tattoos and 1 scar on his face and suddenly he was a monster? Ummm. It also was not clear why the heroine was so determined to be independent and “not depend on a man”. There were zero stakes. Also the miscommunication at the end was just not it. Nope.

Friends to lovers
Forbidden?? (Not really. Didn’t like what the author tried to do with this).
Forced proximity
Heroine had surgery on her eyes so she was blind for 5 days.

my first book by Haley Travis, and was pleasantly surprised. A quirky romance, dealing with a variety of emotions from the two main characters Liam and Kayla, who are thrust together in unexpected circumstances and learn to break down their barriers. through out book the most important notion was that of being accepted. well written with lovable characters.

Wow that was so cute I loved Liam and Kayla from the start I was hooked. This had really nice build up, good conflict and a hea so what more can I ask for because wow it was really good! The only thing I do wish we could’ve had is a another epilogue but the two epilogues at the end were really good I just felt we could’ve had another one to really tie up the story! But otherwise a good lunch time read and I loved the chemistry between these two so yeah, go check it out!

The author has given us characters that seem very different from each other, however, deep inside each has insecurities and doubts. The story flows smoothly and keeps you wondering if Kayla and Liam will be able to trust in themselves.

Too insta love for me. I was hoping the book would have them realizing their attraction with the week of her being “blind” for like maybe a third of the book then them growing to know each other once she could see etc etc. I do love the blind chick trope so that’s why I gave it 3 stars but overall pretty lackluster.

Sweet romancs.

Loved this. Two lonely people that take a chance on love and win big time. Liam toned down his obsessive, protective tendencies and Kayla bent and let him in to her guarded world. The sex was hot, too. Wow!

So, the slow burn in this story was hot.... And so was the whole beauty and the beast dynamic, which I love. I can't rate it a 5 stars because quite frankly the writing is somewhat simplistic, and also, the last extra chapters were somewhat dull. But a seriously good read nonetheless.

Entertaining

Enjoyable story. Love the bug softy. I really liked how the introvert connected with the one who would take care of her. Has a nice progression in the relationship.

I liked Liam, a hottie who thinks he's not. A gentle giant. A good guy with a bad boy vibe. Nice.
