“This isn’t checkers, this is chess and every move is made with a purpose. Even if a few pawns are in my way, the king is my target.”
In the midst of a bitter custody fight, wealthy business owner Shawn Cunningham is a good man and willing to do anything to get his twins away from their mother. Shawn’s ex-wife, Brandi, is just as cold and calculating as she is a liar and deceiver. She knows Shawn’s chances of getting full custody are very slim and she aims to keep it that way…even if she has to get blood on her hands.
Court mediator, Claire Gonzalez, enters the picture with the children’s interest in mind and wants to make sure Shawn and Brandi are competent and dedicated parents. However, Claire and Shawn didn’t count on the intense attraction forming between them. It makes a complex situation more complicated with his trust issues that barge into their relationship. Can Claire help Shawn get his kids away from Brandi while building on their newly discovered romance? Or will Brandi do what she has to do in order to keep her babies?
Actions have consequences. Are Shawn, Brandi, and Claire prepared to deal with theirs?
This story didn't make a whole lot of sense to me and still seems unfinished. Why didn't Shawn get a lawyer from the beginning? He certainly had the means. What's Claire's deal and who was the mystery person behind her actions? Why wouldn't she report to the authorities what happened at the home visit? I was confused by the ending. It seems like the author tried to set up some twists, but failed. He needs better mastery of words/language. He definitely needs to have his work edited. I had high hopes for this book and was disappointed. Not something I would recommend.
This book was good until the end, he got his kids back but she took all his money and we don't know who was calling her with the orders or who she really was. Not a good ending left you hanging.
I felt bad for Shawn and I couldn’t stand Brandi. She was very nasty and vindictive. The ending was a little confusing to me. Is there going to be another part? Overall it was a good read
Wow! So I got to the end of this story and was open mouthed!!! I loved Shawn, especially the passion he had for his kids and I hated Brandi but the end left me reeling! A great read, totally recommended.
